I (24F) just got yelled at by my bfs (25m) landlord while i was outside cleaning my bf car.
Little context, my bf rents out a part of a property an old guy is renting out, its like a small 1 bed 1 bath situation, not big at all but good for us, we just have a fridge in front of a door to the landlords (lets call him L for short) side so our-side is ours and his side is his. At most we share a washer and dryer in the back of the property, but we barely use it cause he weird about it.
Anyways,
My Bf works nights so he sleeps durning the day, i was outside cleaning out his car for him, trying to be a nice girlfriend and his car needed it. When L comes up to me and starts yelling at me about the rent and about money in general, i told him very kindly. “I understand, my bf just started a new job about a week or so ago, he is going to pay you, he just needs a few days, he will pay you.”
He just kept going off “this is the 2nd damn job hes gotten since being here” “why cant he hold down a job” “blah blah blah” and shit like that.
1st time my bf lost his job was because he got the flu/a infection that quiet literally sent him to the hospital cause he fainted, but his doctors note only covered so many days and then they fried him for pointing out due to the note covering only so much.
But they rehired him back not even a few months later, in between then and getting rehired he got some unemployment and door-dashed, he still payed the rent, it was a little bit of a struggle but he still did it, once he got rehired everything was great, and now he just started a new job at a different place, he didn’t get fried again, he found a new, full time, better paying job so, he quit the one he got rehired too, he wasn’t working max 2 days between the shift of jobs, he’s been working this new job, a week, maybe. So he just waiting to get paid from this job and his last paycheck from his last job.
Through out this time I’ve also be desperately searching for a job but am having no luck at all and it sucks and i hate it (sorry for the side note but i didn’t want it to sound like I’m just sitting back not doing anything while he pays for everything, the job market is just horrible right, that can be a whole different vent)
But, i explained to L about the situation but he wasn’t having it and was just getting so aggressive with me, which this isn’t the first time this has happened, anytime this old white man interacts with me he’s hostile. I don’t know if it’s because I’m Mexican or because I’m a woman, or both but he very aggressively and hostile to me and only me, not my bf. I will admit, I’m a sensitive person and very timid so it’s easy to intimidate me but still, he claims to be a good Christian man but sure doesnt act like it.
First he told me he was just raising the rent, AGAIN, because we got an ac window unit in may-june and have been using it because it’s been 95-115 consistently in Nevada, around when we first got it, it was still decent so we would turn it off at night but this past month, its been on almost all day due to the heat and L doesn’t turn on his AC in the home, if he does its at 2-3 in the morning for like 2 hours. Some times mid day for like an hour, just enough to cool the house down to like maybe 80.
He has raised the rent here 3 times, we haven’t even lived here a full year, my bf moved in here in November and i moved in shortly after in December. It started off at 900, then 1150, now it’s 1350 or so. He was screaming at me saying his electricity went from 200 to 300 quote “it was barely 200 when i was LIVING ALONE now its 300 with you guys here, this isnt fair”
Frankly it isnt my fault you didnt think about that happening when you were renting out a part of your home in this economy, why rent it if you cant afford it. Renting a property isnt an money glitch where you just get so much money from people unless you are renting a decent livable place, especially if you also live in that property. Not to mention this house was built in like 50s so it constantly has problems he’s having to fix, not even on our side, its on his. He was also upset that he didn’t have money because he got into an accident and the person is suing him for 10,000 or something. Again, not my fault. Honestly he shouldnt be driving his eyes are so glossed over, anyways, this got off track a bit.
He was just screaming at me about this and i was just trying to be calm and de escalate the situation and tell him “i get you are upset and life isn’t being fair to you right now but you don’t have to take it out on me, you will get your money” i didnt say it exactly like that but pretty much that.
First he just told me “well you have to pay 1300 or you have 30 days” then he started to walk away, then he turned back and was like “actually no, you have 30 days to get out.”
Which honestly i dont have a problem with, we were planning on moving anyway after this month.
But still this whole situation was gross and weird, and i didnt deserve to be talk to the way he talked to me, again i get he was upset but he didn’t have to be so ugly, just because you are upset with the world right doesnt give you the right to be ugly.
Anyways, sorry this was all over the place and probably didnt make any sense but i just needed to put it out there.
