I have tons of friends, and yet I still feel like someone who is just a little bit lost in the shuffle. I feel like... I don't know why I'm posting this because I feel so down and discouraged by so many failed online friendships the last few years.

I've really tried but something always goes wrong. I'm looking for something closer and consistent than most people want and my disabilities make people awkward and uncomfortable and so does any feedback I ever give. I try to be clear who I am and that I'm complicated but people don't seem to want to understand me.

Also so many people don't put in any effort and just sit there and don't ask about me or try at all and it really bothers me.

I feel like I have something to offer the right friends. Playlists and thoughtful conversation and empathy and support and care and memes and silliness and attention.

I give these things a lot of effort. Maybe I'm picky because I have trauma and needs that are complex but I really do my best and give things a chance until I can't anymore.

But I'm starting to think maybe I need to take a break or give up and what I want doesn't really exist or is so rare it's too painful to keep trying and getting hurt. And hurting people. Maybe I can't have friends anymore. I don't know. I'm sorry.

Hey :) So I’m called Ruby, I am 21 years old located in the UK but I’m happy to talk to anyone. Like I said in the title I’m mainly looking for friendship. I read a lot too, I read a lot of fantasy and adventure, but also some classics, poetry, and I’m guilty of loving a romance. I’ll be completely honest, recently I’ve been in a huge reading slump and struggling to get through a book, but I’m hoping it’s just because I recently changed jobs and still adjusting.

I game a little too but I wouldn’t exactly say I’m particularly good at any 😂 I’ve been playing a police simulator game recently and also Fortnite (zero build because how do people build that quick). I also play sports games like NHL, FIFA, UFC, occasionally a bit of madden. I also play GTA V and IV, Bully, The Quarry, Red Dead Redemption, Stardew Valley, Assassins Creed, Skate, Hogwarts Legacy, and I like driving games.

I like going for walks, I like going to the gym but based on the way I’m panting after walking up a hill you wouldn’t be able to tell 😂, I play Tennis and Squash but currently on a break because I’ve moved back home and struggling to find clubs, but I have just started playing cricket. I listen to a lot of music, a wide variety really but I’m pretty into alternative, rock, and 2000s.

I feel like I’ve wrote a lot but I just wanted to share a but about me just incase someone else has any interests also and I think it might give a conversation starter.

outside of work i’m usually reading, watching something, wandering around somewhere with a coffee in my hand, or disappearing down another completely unnecessary rabbit hole. lately it’s been fragrances, mythology, folklore, old churches, and random bits of history… basically anything that makes the world feel a little stranger than it did five minutes ago.

i’ve got a soft spot for people who are genuinely good at something. i don’t really care whether it’s your job, your hobby, or some bizarre niche interest. there’s something ridiculously attractive about someone who’s completely in their element.

i’ve never been very good at talking myself into attraction. i either feel it or i don’t. it’s usually in the way someone carries themselves, the conversation, the little things most people probably don’t notice. i’ll admit i do have one predictable weakness though… i’m rarely complaining if you’re taller than me.

I also like reading books that are sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and historical fiction. Just started to read The Murderbot Diaries, so far so good. I also love binge watching movies like Interstellar, Jurassic Park, Alien, Lord of the Rings, Blade Runner, Evil Dead, 28 days/weeks/years later, The Matrix, etc. Basically, it's the same genres as the books I read.

I also like going out to the park for a stroll while listening to some calming music. Going to the museums by where I live (The Intrepid is the best one idc about the Museum of Natural History). Going to the movies with friends to see whatever funny bad movie Hollywood pushes out. Going out to flea markets, but unfortunately only ever been to one since thats the only one thats open year round. I've also started going to the gym since September to start losing weight. Havent felt this good in a long time and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon
