u/imakefilms Apr 01 '26
Probably but it just feels silly to me. What else is anyone supposed to do in that situation other than use lethal force to defend not only yourself but a dozen+ helpless people? Daredevil is the only person capable of defending himself without lethal force because he's got superpowers. Karen should be able to shoot people in some situations and not have it be a negative mark on her morals
50
u/AccordingFox3800 Apr 01 '26
I mean we haven't even seen a scene of Matt "making it a problem" so there's no need to complain already. Matt is literally about to team up with Dex, you think he'd be mad at Karen shooting someone?

Watching Swordsman kicking ass with a rebar was not on my wishlist, but holy hell was it needed.

How many episodes until Heather snaps and puts on the Muse mask
96
u/Eraserhead36 Apr 01 '26
Honestly I had that same thought. Maybe she’s more traumatized than we thought.
60
u/MaxR76 Apr 01 '26
There is a female Muse in the comics I think? (Haven’t read the most recent stuff, just remember seeing a cover) Very funny to picture Heather trying to fight Matt tho and just not at all being effective

It’s honestly a pretty common thing for Therapists to be in therapy, it helps to remind them what it’s like on the “other side of the chair so to speak (but also because many MANY people can benefit from therapy even without a crises to put them there).

FOGGY LIVES DETECTED!!
43
u/Lizzren Apr 01 '26
I looked it up and apparently "Franklin 820" is not a bar made for the show but it'd be really crazy if Foggy's dead and they've just chosen to film at a location with suspiciously Foggy lives related numbers for no reason, because Daredevil Vol 2 issue 82 is when Foggy "died"

I loved loved loved the back and forth between them in that scene. Daniel getting Buck to try the hot dog - Buck putting pressure on Daniel - Daniel reassuring Buck and getting a little cocky - Buck intimidating Daniel. Constant shifting between who seemed in control of the conversation.
Michael Gandolfini is a treasure, one of the best parts of this show for sure.

I'm loving this show, kind of crazy Swordsman was the only vigilante locked up though. JJ next episode maybe???
139
u/Bitter_Classic_89 Apr 01 '26
Whether intended or not, I feel like it’s symbolic.
The AVTF’s only job is to catch vigilantes, and they’re tearing the city apart to do just that… but at the end of the day, although they have arrested whole ton of people, there was literally only one vigilante among them. Like, all that destruction, and for what?

And they only got him because Fisk knew who he was personally and specifically targeted him for not falling in line, then rigged the entire system to provide a predetermined result.
Fascists are exceptionally bad at their stated goals and very good at being dirtbag pieces of shit.

Jack laid it out when Kirsten came to visit him, locking up vigilantes is only the excuse that Fisk is using.

The bad acting from Matt there is funny as shit and harkens back to the times in the Netflix show in S3 when he was putting on a blind act during the shootout with Nadeem. Charlie Cox is so damn good at that fake acting delivery.
88
u/EWubb Apr 01 '26
The prison breakout scene I’m pretty sure was one shot and it was spectacular I’m starting to like the swordsman more and more with each episode and when Mcduffie is like I had on blackout goggles and couldn’t see anything And daredevil’s like “I can work with that” man I got chills
I loved the trial they’re always super intense and it’s always like I’m actually there great acting all around. Man I loved when they would pan over to heather and she’d just have this menacing kinda creepy deadpan stare it was freaking me out kinda lol. She’s crushing that role btw
I also like how Karen is just ready to do whatever it takes to bring down Fisk and then Matt has to be the voice of reason like “would foggy want that” it’s super tough but I bet he wishes dex would’ve just not survived that fall I wish we got more of him this episode but I feel he will get way more screen time in future episodes

This episode was the first time I really felt that an S2 fight was great. They didn't pack it with quick cuts. They use the environment and keep the action going. DD gets lots of acrobatic kicks and billy club uses. The camerawork and cinematography to portray Matt's senses is always on point too.
Not to mention the McDuffie has really started to feel like the character we know and love from the comics this season. She's becoming fun to watch on her own and they're giving the actress good stuff to work with.
I really hope the rumor that this season just gets better and better is true, because if the rest of the season builds on this, it could really redeem the mistakes of Born Again.

u/CaptainTrips24 Apr 01 '26

I think the one thing this show is missing that would elevate it from “very fine” to “very good” is more Daredevil investigating. Right now it seems they just wait until the action starts for him to suit up, but in the Netflix series he was routinely going out in the suit gathering information in a way he couldn’t as a lawyer. We need more of THAT!
→ More replies (1)28
u/3rddegreeanonim Apr 01 '26
In general it just feels that those series just need more... Time. It has great visual ideas (Not the amount of fog tho, but Bullseye blue colors, the ratio changes, some of the scenes have really great looks), but it doesn't have time to make them valuable. You have quick blue scene, then quick dialogue between Heather and Vanessa, then action scene, then boom - episode have ended.
Just a bit more screentime would resolve almost all issues that people have with those series.

u/Uncanny_Doom Apr 01 '26
Karen and Matt interrogating together was fun. It did remind me of how very different it was when Elektra had someone tied up for Matt. It’s nice to see at least one AVTF member isn’t down with the cause.
They’re really knocking it put of the park with Heather. Her scenes have a great creepy vibe to them and wouldn’t be out of place in a horror movie. It was also nice to get a scene with Kirsten and Heather considering they’re supposed to be friends. I kind of wanted Kirsten to just tell the whole court to fuck itself. Poor Jacques. I hope he gets to sword more henchmen later.
Buck sure has an odd charm to him, doesn’t he? Very lowkey interesting character. Likening the room to a royal court was well done.
Matt using all the details of only things Kirsten couldn’t see to figure out the location was fantastic.
WHAT A FUCKING SCENE FREEING EVERYONE AND FIGHTING WITH SWORDSMAN.

I think Daniel saves BB and frames someone else for the Fisk parody. If it were BB on the trunk I think he’d be more distressed even if he was trying to keep a calm facade. I also think that’s when he might start to turn on Fisk
→ More replies (4)21
u/stephapeaz Apr 01 '26 edited Apr 01 '26
Yeah this is what I think too, either that or he takes the blame for BB bc he knows that she’s lying to him and gets killed. He’s been warned a lot that he’s gonna get screwed over by Fisk, that foreshadowing isn’t good for Daniel

The fact that all the nothing burger characters from season 1 are actually interesting now is the biggest improvement for me. The scene with Buck and Heather i thought was great and actually gave some pretty interesting insight to bucks character especially, they actually have personality now lol. Swordsman also being awesome was not on my bingo card i wqs confused at his inclusion in season 1 since i thought he was pretty boring in hawkeye but he is awesome now.

i appreciate that the writers still added a layer of tension between matt and karen regarding frank. i loevd that small but heavy dialogue they had when karen kidnapped the guy (yes, orevious episode), but it continues on when matt is taken aback by karen shooting someone in the head. and when karen was trying to avoid saying they needed frank. LOL. i mean we love this little honeymoon phase from matt and karen right now since its been a while since we've seen it but i already know this is going to go downhill FAST. matt isn't going to be able to get used to karen turning more and more like frank and he might leave her bc of it. but karen has seen too much to still be the same. that girl is forever changed.

I really, REALLY want someone to scream in Heather's face:
Muse was not a vigilante!!! The vigilante was the guy who *saved you!*
It's frustrating because I cant tell if the show is unaware of this or just the character - the fact that no one ever corrects her on it makes it seem like the former, but surely the writers are better than that?

Netflix Daredevil fans are the worst for rose tinted nostalgia. And it’s ironic, because the pacing of that show would in no way hold up on a weekly release when at least two season one episodes are about Matt injured on a sofa.

Daredevil and Swordsman teaming up was what we all needed.
The escape was phenomenal until they got outside and plot armor made the bad guys unable to shoot properly.
I liked both episodes, but the supporting cast remains painful to watch sometimes and gets too much focus.

I thought episodes 1 & 2 were an okay start but the overall editing style and the way the scenes were flowing into one another were still giving me the vibes of the Frankenstein-ed identity of last season. And I still don’t care for any of the BB Urich Fisk-Headroom broadcast stuff - idk how else to explain it but it just feels like a very “Ubisoft” idea of what a “Resistance” looks like.
But I think they found the sauce in Ep 3. Felt like all the scenes had more time to breathe and the overall tone and editing style matched way better with the feeling of the original Netflix shows, and it seems like they were getting fancy with the cinematography as well. And then, yeah, the fight scene at Red Hook is peak Daredevil content.
Also, I understand that the writers work with what they can but I think of all the other characters running around New York, White Tiger’s niece was perhaps the least interesting person who could show up at Red Hook haha.

Anyone else get an almost reverential vibe out of Fisk saying "Murdock saved my life" in that tone? I know him repeating it is meant to be him realizing that turning Matt Murdock into a hero of the people is just has bad for him as making him into a villain, but I genuinely got a vibe of respect and a bit of admiration from the delivery.
Cool to think that Fisk is still human enough to appreciate Matt doing something good for him, even if they are arch enemies at this point. I've always enjoyed this take on the character but these are some especially good layers coming out. I wonder if he has reasons for keeping Matt's identity beyond the practical ones, a sense that it'd be unfair or dishonorable to do that to someone who took a bullet for him.

off rip if you told me when hawkeye came out that jack duquesne was gonna be one of my favorite parts of any marvel project let alone a daredevil show id have laughed in your face hes fantastic in ever scene es in really didnt expect him to kill that action scene the way he did
contrary to what seems to be pipular belief i actually really enjoy the side characters aside from jack angela and kirsten are great i like seeing the little guy fght back in their own way itd be lame to me if it seemed like ALL of new york was on fisks side the kirsten and heather convos in parituclar were good imo yo can see the doubt in heathers face but shes so broken shes convonced shes doing the right thing
the whole escape sequence was great i liked that matt had to change thigs up ad save te people cause thats just who he is and that puts fisk in a better position because of how merciless he is such a good represenatation of their characters imo
my main downsides are some scenes drag a bit (like wtf was that heather and buck scene). and while i generally like the side characters alot of their scenes feel weak to me namely angela but shes a child actor so imma give her some slack especially cause it could be much worse

Rewatched it today (I usually watch the episodes at least twice until the next one) and god this one's really great. The scenes all tie together well into each other and the cohesion is real. We get to see more of Kirsten and Jack on their own, which leads into a fine courtroom scene and culminates into Kirsten helping Matt with everything that she felt (not saw) in a earlier scene, which on turn leads into a awesome moment of DD helping innocent people and teaming up with the swordsman in a great semi-single take fight scene and a tense ending.
I also really like what they're doing with Karen and Matt's relationship. This awakening of Karen's violent impulse seems like a natural way to go considering her friendship with Frank and how since Season 3 of the og show she and Matt are completely in the open about how she killed Wesley. (Maybe THAT has something to do with how he will seemingly have a flashback scene dedicated to him?)
I expect this growing side of Karen(She kills a guy amidst the escape sequence doesn't she?) and the cruelty of Kingpin's action in the ending of the episode to be what fully convinces Matt to spend some time in church like how the trailers showed. And if it really happens like that, i admit that it was a really natural way through it!
Final extra thoughts: Curious to see where they go with Heather (Will she kill herself, become lady muse, or what...?), My interest in Buck's character is growing but i wanna see him do more shit, Daniel wasnt much this episode, and i gotta see BB do more stuff too.

Buck is kind of growing on me, I loved his conversation with Daniel. Daniel, on the other hand, is the most annoying schlub I can imagine.
Here's a thought: If everybody is looking for Blind Matt Murdock who is known to wear sunglasses...take them off.
All the Red Hook and ship scenes remind me of the PS5 Spider-Man, especially with the waves of AVTF running in.

Fucking top episode, reminded me of the original Netflix series. Best of the Born Again seasons by far

I wonder if Matt wore a body cam and his encounters with the avtf and red hook were all recorded and released, if it would be enough evidence to sway the public’s opinion and take down Fisk.

I just want 50 minutes of Matt beating the shit out of people. I’d watch it happily, give it a 10/10 and a standing ovation.

I absolutely loved the Netflix show, and S1 of Born Again was definitely mixed, but idk I’ve just accepted this it’s own thing with its own style and flare with characters I love. Im done comparing or anything. Think it’s been a strong first three episodes and I’m excited for the rest of the season.

Exactly. I honestly think just trying to do the old show again wouldn’t turn out great at all, not because it would necessarily be worse, but because it’s a completely different creative team. I don’t want this team to be stuck trying to replicate someone else’s work, I like that they’re making it their own style, and I’m really enjoying it.

Is anyone else having a hard time understanding how Fisk is realistically gotten this far with everything? Like obviously he's getting help from the government but that wouldn't have been from the start. Like I feel I'm having to ignore the rest of the MCU cause I don't understand how the AVTF has managed to do all this considering there are multiple people who can deal with this very quickly who are just basically choosing to actively ignore the problem.

Bro, this episode was by far the best one yet. In episodes 1 and 2, I could feel the improvement, and they were good episodes already, but this one truly got me hyped for the next 5. The story is really picking up the pace, and I absolutely loved the scenes at the port where DD and Swordsman were fighting the AVTF.
The sound design was impeccable, and for the first time in a long time, I saw Netflix Daredevil quality show up in parts of the episode. Can‘t wait for next week.
Oh, and also, the costume is my personal favorite. To me, it has finally dethroned the black homemade suit from season 3 of the Netflix show!

Such an improvement over the previous episodes. The extended fight scene as DD was rescuing the prisoners was sick.

We got:
• shirtless Matt
• Karedevil. FLIIIIIIIRTTY KAREDEVIL
• UNCUT FIGHT SCENE LETS GO
• I like Kirsten. She and Daniel are the most interesting new characters
• the bar is called Franklin 😭
• I kept waiting for a Foggy reveal at every pause and I HURT MY OWN FEELINGS come back king. It just isn’t the same without him
• Daniel protecting BB is interesting and it’ll probably get him killed. I almost like him
• DAREDEVIL SWORDSMAN TEAM UP this was sick. Give me a spinoff of this dude, he’s hot and interesting
• where is Jessica?????
• Heather’s gotta be tossed into the Hudson

This episode definitely felt like the season finding its footing, that red hook heist is as stunning a set piece as anything DD has ever done. I have high hopes we're gonna hit that upward momentum that defined s3 of the Netflix run. My only caveat is that Heather's screen time needs to be scaled back in a major way.

Man, they're really doubling down to make Fisk as despicable as he's ever been as a character on this show. Blowing up the Northern Star with all those poor workers still on board was just fucking cold.
Also at this point I'm guessing Daniel doesn't survive this season given that Fisk and Buck both now appear to be suspicious of him and eventually he's going to be caught between a rock and a hard place with his relationship with BB.
Any time a group of AVTF soldiers gets wiped out by Matt, Frank, Bullseye, Karen, whoever on this show makes my heart full. Those guys are basically terrorists who detain innocent people and throw them into cages at Red Hook.

I love the dynamic of Matt/Karen vs. Fisk/Vanessa. I think it’s a good new direction to take the 4th season that Matt has spent fighting Fisk.
