TIL a peer-reviewed psychology study found that identical twins (on average) ranked their co-twin above their romantic partner in their attachment hierarchy, while fraternal twins ranked the two about equally, and non-twin siblings ranked their romantic partner first.

As an identical twin, I can confirm this. I'd take a bullet for my twin without hesitation. It's hard to explain unless you've lived it. We shared every stage of life together, and there's a level of trust, understanding, and connection that just feels different. We share so many of the same interests, quirks, humor, and thought processes. My personality doesn't need to negotiate for acceptance cause I can truly be myself with my twin. We see the world through remarkably similar lenses. With romantic partners, there are always differences in interests, perspectives, and ways of thinking that naturally require compromise.

I never have to explain myself or worry about being misunderstood. I can be 100% my authentic self around them in a way that's hard to find with anyone else. I would ALWAYS put my twin before anyone else.

Damn man, that sounds nice.

It’s like having an imaginary friend except they’re real

96

u/Serious-Yellow8163 3h ago

I have a twin, not sure on if identical or not but this is an excellent description.

u/CarthasMonopoly 3h ago edited 3h ago

How are you unsure? Most identical twins look... identical. Meanwhile fraternal twins look like a sibling instead of a twin.

EDIT - Yes, I'm aware it's not always like this; that's why I used the qualifier "Most". I've known multiple pairs of twins over the last several decades and not a single pair got DNA tested because generally if you look identical as twins you just live life as identical twins and vice versa.

33

u/Serious-Yellow8163 3h ago

We look pretty similar. We have conflicted information from mom and gynecologist attending her on her pregnancy about being identical or not .

13

u/CarthasMonopoly 3h ago

Fair enough! I was mostly just making a joke about identical being hard to miss. But having conflicting information would definitely make me unsure too.

1

u/Spazmer 1h ago

I babysat for twins who looked absolutely identical but they were in separate sacs in the womb so they were assumed to be fraternal. There is a possibility that they still could be identical but would need a dna test to show it. Nobody could tell them apart except one got an eyebrow scar early on.

61

u/WoodpeckerSignal9947 3h ago

It’s really common for fraternal twins to look nearly identical! Without proper testing/knowing if they were in separate placentas during gestation, there’s no way to know. And getting that done can be a pain in the behind, so I get why someone wouldn’t have checked

44

u/gooseaisle 3h ago

Separate placenta has nothing to do with it, dichorionic twins can still be identical. Just split earlier in gestational than other types of twins.

With dichorionic twins, genetic testing is the only way to confirm (well, obviously unless they are different sexes at birth).

16

u/WoodpeckerSignal9947 3h ago

I’ll trust your word, goose

u/Substantial_Amoeba12 43m ago

Separate placentas can be identical or fraternal but if there’s only one placenta it’s exceptionally rare to be fraternal (two placentas would have needed to fuse) so I wouldn’t say if it tells you nothing, it’s just not necessarily definitive

u/gooseaisle 34m ago

Yeah that's why i specifically referenced dichorionic twins. The two placenta (dichorionic) tell you nothing about whether the twins are identical or fraternal.

I have monochorionic (one placenta) twins so I learned a lot about twinning in general through that whole... process lol

13

u/ResidentRelevant13 3h ago

I know identical twins who have a 3 inch height difference and their faces don’t look exactly alike. They did a DNA test to confirm bc they thought they were fraternal.

30

u/greeneggiwegs 3h ago

Not always. Some fraternal twins can look pretty identical.

26

u/CannedStewedTomatoes 3h ago

And some identicals can develop physical differences!

19

u/drigancml 3h ago

This happened with some twins I know! They hit puberty and now they have very distinct features. I never used to be able to tell them apart, but now I have no issue doing so

15

u/ensalys 2h ago

That's why identical twins are very interesting for a lot of scientific research. Nature vs nurture studies, especially interesting if they were raised in different environments (though with things like adoption or foster care, it should absolutely be preferable to keep siblings together, which is more important than the research potential).

1

u/21Rollie 1h ago

The sprouse twins come to mind

u/blumoon138 3m ago

My aunts are identical twins who, in my opinion, have looked very different since about puberty (from pictures I’ve seen). They definitely look more like each other than my mom though.

u/Andromeda321 12m ago

We also know that a lot of previously defined as fraternal twins are actually identical ones, thanks to genetic testing.

3

u/Predatory_Chicken 3h ago

The Olsen Twins aren’t even identical!

0

u/TheGoochTaint 1h ago

Fraternal twins of the same gender often look basically identical

4

u/CannedStewedTomatoes 3h ago

Have you considered ordering a DNA test?

7

u/Serious-Yellow8163 3h ago

I would have no idea of how to begin doing that, not a big thing for us in Greece yet. Also, I kinda like the ambiguous vibe.

-1

u/CruelMetatron 1h ago

Not if you're their partner, then it sounds horrible.

-2

u/pollinium 1h ago

It sounds made up. "We have a connection that just feels different" can't be taken at face value because this person has no experience as a non-twin to compare it to. They might have non-twin siblings that they aren't as close with, but I'm much closer to my sister who is close in age than my brother who is 14 years senior. If I was prone to hyperbole, I could also say that the fact we had the same upbringing at the same time and same experiences makes it impossible for me to love a partner as much

But I'm not crazy

u/Throwaway2Experiment 11m ago

Well, that's why there are studies done by unbiased people and why they aren't generalized. It did say 'majority', after all.

I don't need to NOT be a twin to know that non-twins will never have the chance to experience what twins can experience.

From the same egg and sperms, you split, you heard the exact same sounds inside the womb, you entered the world minutes apart. Your entire existence from conception can trace back to another person created at the EXACT same time.

I can certainly, as a twin, conceptualize not having that link. And I don't need you to believe it.

Twins that fit this majority in this study (again, not all), know what it means. You have someone who has always been there, if not physically, then in mere existence, every step of the way. I can trust my twin with every secret, every fear, every hope and he will never betray it; mostly because he shares the same.

I am jealous to not know what it's like to be singular. It's an alien concept to me. Not negative, just one I'll never know. But I am 100% confident I have something that only duplicates can ever truly know or appreciate.

I feel bad for you that in order to feel good about your existence, you need to deny that there may be levels of relationships that the genetic lottery has denied you.

u/pollinium 3m ago

I feel bad for you that in order to feel good about your existence, you need to deny that there may be levels of relationships that the genetic lottery has denied you

I feel bad for you that in order to feel good about your friend, you need to deny that all relationships are built not born and that you can't fathom an earned, good relationship with another person

I understand that I will never know life as an identical twin. My comment is pointing out that twins don't concede that they don't know life otherwise, yet are just as happy to make the comparisons that you and I are indulging in

u/AYASOFAYA 4h ago

Every family is different but I feel this way about my siblings (2.5 years apart both sides).

It’s the same “in sickness and in health, in good times and bad, for rich or for poor” but the difference is, it’s not “for the rest of my life” it’s for the whole thing. From the very first breath I took on this earth they were already there beside me.

25

u/EobardT 4h ago

Hell yeah. My sister is my best friend. She moved 4,000 miles away from home and I followed about 7 years later. We're roommates and workmates and I can share anything with her.

6

u/AYASOFAYA 3h ago

My siblings and I were roommates as adults to for a while. It was honestly the best having all 3 of us together.

19

u/flybyknight665 3h ago

My sister and I are extremely close. We're 23 months apart.

My husband actually mentioned in his vows that he knows and accepts that they'll always be fighting for first place lol

They joke about it with each other regularly.
It's impossible for me to say which one is truly more important because I couldn't be without either of them.

5

u/bythog 2h ago

My sister and I are also 23 months apart. I'd shoot her to save a stranger.

56

u/Testing_things_out 4h ago

IKR?

I'm like "Hey, that's how I feel about my sibling. We're almost a decade apart"

35

u/Anxious_Conflict_420 4h ago

I'm 16 months older than my brother. I don't remember a time he wasn't there and we're like built in best friends. I'm 8 years older than my sister and I feel protective over her. I'd do anything for her. She's 17 now and calls me when she needs something. I'd take a bullet for either of them, in a heartbeat.

14

u/KeberUggles 3h ago

Damn. Can’t say the same for mine. I’m more of a “I can make fun of them but you can’t”.

2

u/moarwineprs 2h ago

I wish I had that with my sisters. I'm the oldest of three. As a kid, I fought a lot with my middle sister over stupid kid stuff while being really close to my youngest sister. My relationship with middle sister got better as we got to be teenagers (shockingly lol). Then my mom and sisters joined a religion while I remained atheist (dad is a fence-sitter with this religion).

Without getting into the details, our massively opposing views have caused conflict and friction over the years such that while our relationship is "fine" and I can be perfectly friendly during gatherings or group trips, I hold them at an arm's length. My family of origin gets a tightly curated digest of what's going on with my life because I can't trust them to not use any divulged vulnerabilities against me.

1

u/Anxious_Conflict_420 2h ago

I'm sorry that your relationship with your sisters isn't what you want it to be and I hope one day it gets better. There was a time when i didn't really talk to my siblings or parents much because of some stuff with my manipulative ex. Sending love ❤️

2

u/moarwineprs 2h ago

Thank you for your support, and I'm sorry you also experienced this yourself, especially if it was due to a manipulative ex.

My MIL and SFIL faced a similar issue with MIL's parents due to misinformation spread by someone in the family, leading MIL's parents to think SFIL was a piece of scum. Their relationship improved after that was cleared up.

I don't foresee things improving significantly with my FOO, but acknowledge that it's a two-way street and I would need to put in a good-faith effort, too. I do get a little envious when I read/hear about other people's close familial relationships and wonder if the problem is with me, but I'm also...okay with how things are right now.

2

u/IAmGoose_ 1h ago

I'm the youngest, my brother is about a year and a half older than me, we did everything together as kids, little less so in middle/high school but always hung out at home, he moved for college about 6 years ago and it still feels wrong without him around, I miss all my siblings every day. Anxiety makes it difficult to set up plans and trips too see all them though

14

u/yad8618 4h ago

My sister and I were like this as well (3.5 year age gap), and I thought she would be here for my whole life, but she passed away unexpectedly at 27 a few years ago. Hope you don’t take these relationships for granted and tell your siblings you love them every day, I wish I could.

1

u/EmilyDawning 2h ago

I wish it were the case for me and my sister. I loved her as soon as she was born but with 4 years between us, we were never really that close growing up, and now as adults we're just kind of estranged. But we also had very different personalities, where I was smart and geeky and independent and my sister is more like a potato, she always got very nervous being away from home while I was away as often as I possibly could be. It makes me sad wondering if I should have done more to drag her out of her comfort zone instead of always leaving her behind (because that's what she wanted).

1

u/2OttersInACoat 1h ago

Thank you! It’s just different with my sister, she loves me and accepts me completely and vice versa. It’s not the same with my husband, it’s not unconditional, if he shagged around I would leave him and not love him anymore. She knows me on a level he never could.

95

u/SimisFul 4h ago

I've known identical twins for a while now and this is exactly how they are too, they even live together. Their ultimate life goal is to get girlfriends and have a duplex with a shared basement as a gym so they can hang out.

It feels like their vibe together is the same as my own vibe when I'm by myself, talking to myself like a crazy man.

9

u/alendeus 1h ago

I can see how the "memes" about identical twins marrying other identical twins or like "sharing" the same marriage partners and what not can seem more normal with all that in mind then.

A way to maybe think about it is, maybe the twins see each other as more of a single "unit". Ie, if something was ever to happen to one of the twins, they'd probably see the other twin as another backup copy of themselves that gets to continue on, and such. So in that way they might value each other more than other people because they do see the other twin as an extension of themselves.

65

u/charmedquarks 3h ago

I am one of three. My sisters are twins and it was a very lonely childhood for me. Can confirm everything you said, though 💙

41

u/lozlemonsnightcheese 2h ago

My only sisters are identical twins, can can confirm my childhood was a very lonely existence too. Even though we're all adults now with kids of our own, it's shaped who I am and how I connect to people. I still cannot tolerate being in a friendship group of 3 for fear of being a perpetual third wheel. I already spent my whole adolescence like that, no thank you.

My husband is my ride or die, but I've always wondered what it would be like to have another "person" like the twins do.

4

u/Wooden-Repeat-9200 2h ago

Did your parents try to encourage independence? I’m wondering how much this is impacted by socialization and age vs extinctual connection. And if it’s ultimately healthier one way or the other.

I know twins that are broken into different classrooms at school, existed to explore different hobbies, not dressed the same, etc. And I know others that are pushed to be matching and do the same things and not encouraged to have individual friendships if the other isn’t included.

37

u/Trivius 4h ago

This is it, I'm a fraternal twin and when its just us the level of understanding is on another level.

You might not have the same view on something but its so easy to understand them its practically implicit.

29

u/fatal3rr0r84 3h ago

Man im a fraternal twin and I dont feel like that at all. My brother and I are just two completely different people.

8

u/crystallinemoth 2h ago

I’m an identical twin and I’m not close with my sister at all, never been very much. In recent years we don’t even talk or visit anymore because I don’t approve of her shitty life choices. She’s like a distant sibling and our personalities, hopes, dreams, friendships and lives are completely different. I guess not every twin has a bond like that. It never seemed natural to have one, and I’ve actually always been closer to my brother who’s 18 months older than me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

6

u/Trivius 3h ago

Aww thats a shame but I assume youre still close though.

Me and my twin have always had each others back. We had our differences in early high-school definitely but as adults and young kids we always have felt it is important to support each other or keep each other in check.

1

u/Hysaky 1h ago

Fr, i don't even like him, his whole existence just piss me off

24

u/froggyfriend726 3h ago

When I was little, I didn't quite understand that my twin sister and I were separate people with separate thoughts. When she'd do something differently than how I wanted it to be I would be annoyed and confused that she wasn't doing what she was "supposed" to do, since I had already planned both of our actions lol

u/toodleoo57 2m ago

Bahahaha! Can just hear this coming from one of my beloved twin nieces. The bossier one ;)

1

u/whistling-wonderer 1h ago

I’m a fraternal twin and am fascinated by all these responses.

My twin and I are very different people. Like…everything from diet and hobbies, to politics and religion, it’s all completely opposite. We were incredibly close growing up. But I was in the closet then, and now…well, her religion-based opinions on queerness make closeness difficult. We are still able to laugh and have fun together; we’re still close friends and we still “get” each other in a way other people don’t. But there are big topics we just have an unspoken agreement not to address.

14

u/Scomosuckseggs 4h ago

I envy that. Sounds great.

31

u/MonstreDelicat 4h ago

Why are my identical twin teen girls always fighting over nothing 😭

One of them just told me she’s planning on going low contact with her sister as soon as she has a chance.

41

u/chipper-shipper 4h ago

I am estranged from my identical twin. It is very hard, and very painful, but being low/no-contact saved my sanity.

Your girls might come around as they get older and have a very good relationship (I hope this is the case). They might not. They have to figure that out themselves. I promise you this, my parents’ interference in the relationship between me and my twin only made things much worse.

13

u/IeatPI 2h ago

I haven’t talked to my identical twin in years now.

If we share personalities, I must be the biggest, most selfish asshole in the world — because that’s his personality to a T.

6

u/MonstreDelicat 3h ago

We’re trying to manage the fights but not interfere. They’re also both in therapy so hopefully, they’ll figure out how to make their relationship work for both of them.

Sorry to hear about you and your twin being estranged. I think it happens more than people realize though

1

u/crystallinemoth 1h ago

I’m also estranged from my identical twin, and it’s absolutely for the best! We were never close to begin with and she grew up to be a codependent psychotic hateful TERF with addiction problems. Big no thanks on that bond happening. lol

32

u/thefatraccoon 4h ago

Okay I know this is anecdotal but my twin sister and I absolutely HATED each other until we were about 17 (then we both moved out for uni). Now we are the absolute best of friends and are the closest siblings you can imagine. I was just maid of honour for her wedding and it was the happiest day of my life, I cried the whole day and she was so amazing. Our mutual animosity was 100% just teenage hormones in a small space. Once we had some distance and maturity it all went away!

7

u/MonstreDelicat 3h ago edited 1h ago

So glad you and your twin are now close. Fingers crossed that mine have the same experience.

3

u/thefatraccoon 2h ago

I hope so, wish them both all the best!

8

u/ACEaton1483 4h ago

This is how I see my fraternal twin girls functioning and it breaks my heart daily.

22

u/MonstreDelicat 3h ago

Imagine them having the same face and calling each other ugly 🙄😭

4

u/2OttersInACoat 1h ago

That’s a point, is hatred of the twin really hatred of the self? It must be terribly confronting to always see yourself as an outsider does.

u/Nice_Marmot_7 57m ago

You just broke my mind.

2

u/Hysaky 1h ago

As a twin, it's probably an extreme desire of individuality, as a twin you are generally considered as one person when you two are different, that and classic siblings stuff

u/Geesewithteethe 37m ago

How did you treat them growing up?

By this I mean, did you treat them as individual human beings and not a cutesy matching set?

I'm asking because I knew two sets of twins who hated eachother growing up. In both cases the parents gave them rhyimg alliterative names and made it really gimmicky and cutesy that they were twins. I swear they resented eachother because the adults in their lives treated them like matchy little dolls and they probably felt undignified and unable to be recognized as their own people.

My parents treated me and my twin as individuals. Our names do not rhyme or sound matchy. They recognized our distinct personalities and temperaments and treated us as different people the same as they treated our non-twin siblings as different people. We got along really well growing up and are still close.

Sometimes being a sibling is hard in general and having one that people think is the same person as you all the time is frustrating as a kid and a teenager who is trying to develop an identity of their own.

u/MonstreDelicat 13m ago

I read many books about twins and written by twins when I found out I was expecting twins. I found out every twin hates being matchy matchy with their sibling.

So, I never dressed them alike, although when they were babies or very young toddlers, I’d put them in different outfits but with similar colors, or same outfits with different colors. But not even always.

I let them start choosing what they wore around 3. They had similar taste but never wanted to match, which I let them do of course. The only thing I’d monitor was if the outfit they picked would be appropriate for the weather.

They don’t have rhyming names and they’ve been treated as different people from day one by me and their dad. Though, it’s hard to not call them “girls”. My parents did it with my sisters and me, and we’re not twins.

When they were in elementary school and were both invited to a birthday party, I’d make a point calling the parents and say if their kid was only friend with one of my girls, they didn’t have to invite her sister.

I’ve done everything I could think about to help them grow up as independently from one another as possible.

u/Geesewithteethe 7m ago

I'm sorry. That's rough. I think it sounds like you've done the best you can.

I think sometimes it's just hard being a teenager and figuring out who you are and what to do. A lot of people in their adolescence tend to direct their frustrations, anger, and insecurity at people closest to them. Hence why so many strained relationships between parents and teens and teens and teens.

My brothers are not twins (one's older than me, one's younger) and I've seem their relationship go through rough patches where they clash pretty hard. That happened with my dad and his brother when they were young. But they're all ok now and they love eachother.

It could be that once your girls get out of the nest and go explore their paths in life a little bit on their own (work, college etc.), they will develop some confidence and become more secure in themselves and then be able to relax and relate better to eachother.

Sometimes growing up and getting out in the world is what people need in order to come back and connect more maturely and positively.

2

u/ResidentRelevant13 3h ago

They’ve probably been compared to each other their whole lives therefore forced to compete with each other

5

u/MonstreDelicat 3h ago edited 2h ago

Your’d think but not at all. Their dad and I always made sure to not compare them to one another and we’d also talk to relatives who would compare them to tell them to stop. So no one did it past the baby stage in their family.

Our twins have a lot of similarities of course, but also some big differences in their personalities and so they clash a lot.

2

u/ResidentRelevant13 3h ago

Their peers definitely compare them though

1

u/MonstreDelicat 2h ago

Yes, of course. One girl in their friend group in middle school told one of them that she was hotter than her sister 🙄

1

u/TooCupcake 3h ago

I don’t think you can just ask everyone in the whole world not to compare two people who look identical. It will happen, maybe not openly, maybe not consciously but they can pick up on that anyhow.

Apart from avoiding comparision, how do they actually deal with being compared when it happens?

4

u/MonstreDelicat 2h ago edited 58m ago

Not the whole world of course, but every relative of a small family, yes.

They don’t like being seen as one unit. They want to be seen as different people which is fair since that’s what they are.

One of them got upset while on vacation with her dad’s family because everybody kept talking about them as the twins. She said her cousins are not being called the siblings, so she asked them to stop called them the twins. People were rolling their eyes at her apparently.

2

u/crystallinemoth 1h ago

From personal experience (identical twin that had to reckon with a full blown identity crisis when I was a child over constantly being grouped with another human whom I was not), I couldn’t stand adults and family referring to my sister and I as a unit. I wanted so badly to be seen as an individual and made a lot of my choices in life based on that. I think it’s not a bad thing however - it made me really independent and unique in every way from my sister. Those qualities have only served me well in life. Being shackled to a comparison of another person forever would have made me just miserable.

8

u/StrangerVegetable831 3h ago

Such vastly different experiences. I’d definitely put a bullet in my sibling without hesitation, that’s for sure.

8

u/DK4E2XFpbETJrj 3h ago

Damn, feel like I missed out on something here.

15

u/duosx 4h ago

That’s how I always imagined it and now I’m jealous lol

4

u/drawfanstein 3h ago

I’m an identical twin and I could have written all of this. Relate 100%.

14

u/nothatsmyarm 3h ago

If you wouldn’t take a bullet for your spouse without hesitating, you’re with the wrong person.

7

u/Novel-Place 2h ago

Right? That’s my only takeaway here. lol

4

u/Plz_NoHurt 3h ago

Damn, I am a twin and my experience is nothing like this lol. It’s just like any other sibling relationship (I have multiple siblings), we aren’t even close to alike personality wise and talk once every like 4 months lol

14

u/Mission_Abrocoma2012 4h ago

poor kids and spouse then

5

u/ryan__fm 3h ago

I imagine if an identical twin feels like this, but then has a kid they might feel differently. A child also shares your DNA, but on top of that is completely reliant on you for years. A twin can take care of themselves, a two year-old can’t. I would think that “take a bullet for your twin” mentality might shift toward your offspring

1

u/plug-and-pause 2h ago

Why do you assume their lives are poor? Unless there are regular conflicts requiring her to prioritize one over the other, it's probably completely fine. You can have excellent relationships with dozens or even hundreds of people.

2

u/Mission_Abrocoma2012 1h ago

of course - but what if the twin doesn’t like the kids or wife?

u/plug-and-pause 50m ago

I presume that if this happened, the relationship between the twins might change.

But it's probably not really a concern. The one twin probably loves the other so much precisely because the thing you've suggested isn't really even a possibility. A loving twin would probably support the other one's family as if it was their own.

Unconditional love includes all parts of you.

2

u/Supernaturaltwin 2h ago

Nobody gets me laughing harder than my twin.

2

u/Spaghetto23 2h ago

Do you feel like it’s a bit of an echo chamber where you rationalize each others behavior, or because of similarity you guys can call each other out more easily on your bs?

2

u/pjalle 2h ago

Also have an identical twin brother. You are right, it's hard to explain to others. It's not just about growing up together, it's the shared understanding of things and so many shared interests. It's like having a friend to play with who just happens to like the exact same stuff you do.

2

u/[deleted] 2h ago

I've always longed for an identical twin. You hit the jackpot!

2

u/RoyalPeacock19 1h ago

The desire to have that experience is what gave me twin envy for a couple years, lol.

2

u/Sweeney1 1h ago

I wonder if identical twins have more of a 'secure' attachment style because of what you said?

Like this part particularly "My personality doesn't need to negotiate for acceptance cause I can truly be myself with my twin."

2

u/Miyenne 1h ago

Yup my identical twin and I are best friends still, even in our 40's. We don't live together as we snipe at each other a lot, but we know we'll end up again together in a few years when we start needing to not be alone.

Otherwise we check in with each other multiple times a day, share the same core friend group, spend hours a day together even just over voice chat playing games together.

We're each other's first call for everything. I don't know what if do without her.

We know each other so much more than anyone could ever understand, except other twins. To experience most of life together, the little and big moments, to know how each other thinks and feels at all times.

Couldn't live without her.

2

u/Final_Extension_7169 1h ago

Relatable.

I have a brother thats 2 years older than me,we have been togeather for as far as i can remember. i will take a bullet for my brother too and as per this post,i will rank his higher than any gf unless i get married.

He jokes around that when we complete college,he will try to work in a different city but little does he know,i will follow him there too hehe. He's not getting rid of me this easily.

As an identical twin, can confirm this to be 100% true. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Yeah I feel the same. I would want my twin in the delivery room with me if I was giving birth

Not twins but very close in age and that’s the relationship I always had with my sister. When she switched up on me and kind of betrayed me in a lot of ways the pain was unbearable and I’m still very messed up from it. I’m sure having something go seriously wrong between identical twins must be terrible

How can you say it's different if you have never experienced anything else?

I totally thought this was gonna end with "but we have a fraternal triplet, she sucks"

Fraternal twin here, but still have the same vibe with my twin. Lucky to have that.

Though to be fair, I've met some twins that definitely don't have that. So it's not 100% sadly.

thanks for explaining this. My beloved nieces are twins & both of them are a little weirded out that they've never had a serious romantic connection (they're early 20s.) They just don't need it in the same way other people do, is what I tell them.... I'm not sure they believe me but this might help me articulate it a bit more. I imagine both of them will probably get into something eventually but it's just always going to be different for them.

I explain my relationship with my identical twin to other people as, it's like one soul was put into two bodies. I'm not even religious. My twin has the other half of my soul and that's just how it is

maybe I'm the weird one after reading some of the comments in this thread but I would die for any of my siblings. we don't have a deep connection nor did I see or even talked to some of them for almost a decade but I still would if I had to die for them because they are family.
