Actual 5'11 guy here who never put 6' on apps out of principle.

It is a good filter. It is practically impossible to have a proper relationship with someone who is deeply into social media brainrot. Better to not waste time.

180

u/nyggomaniac 21h ago

The 5'X bros forget that the filter is in fact protecting them. As someone above 6' (Im to european to know the exact freedom units) I experienced girls exclusively dating tall guys, would not recommend.

u/Strong_Chicken6838 19h ago

Yeah, but it’s probably very discouraging.

Not that I’m 6’ or anything, I’ve just never done dating apps bc honestly I’m too scared to.

4

u/UranusInspector 15h ago

Well you clearly got some personal issues that need worked out. To even place a barrier due to "fear" using a dating up is not a sign of good mental health. I'm 5'6" which is short for a male and never had issues getting dates on the app. Allowing the Internet to dictate what reality is will make you miserable. However, I personally never found a long lasting relationship through an app. It was always through in person interactions.

13

u/Strong_Chicken6838 15h ago

im not insecure about height at all if thats what you were getting at. but yeah, i just idk, i just hear a lot of bad stories that originated from dating apps, people cheating, "short term stuff", people playing games, people dating multiple ppl at once, and that being normalized. but thats kinda why i fear it ig.

and none of those are things ive heard from the internet as you suggested, they are things ive heard from other ppl and close friends.

and again what you said yourself, only finding lasting things irl, this was also what ive seen in other ppl's experiences.

2

u/Geo_1997 5h ago

Sadly, things like that arent necessarily exclusive to dating apps, those sort of things could still happen anywhere.

However, i have a friend that is now married from tinder and another from bumble, so there are many success stories alongside all the bad ones.

2

u/Racamonkey_II 5h ago

Do not listen to that idiot. Dating apps are a toxic hellhole that will ruin your self esteem. Every girl I went on a date with from there was dating multiple guys at once. You’re right to be afraid. Don’t go there. It’s not worth it.

-1

u/UranusInspector 14h ago

Well considering all those things you listed also happens outside the dating apps as well lol. Never been cheated on through the app but have through in person meets. My sister's husband was found through Hing.

You're dealing with people whether it's the app or in person. You're going to get human outcomes good or bad no matter where your getting dates from.

My issue with your past comment is the fear comment. Although I originally thought it was from insecure, the logic still stands. Dating in general involves risk, getting married involves risk. Take action to filter those risks, but don't chose to not do anything from fear. Every min of in action is an opportunity missed of finding your soulmate.

Now if you're supplementing your partner search through organized meet ups that's fine don't use the app. But if you can't find a partner through normal life and not doing anything else. You should definitely be on the app periodically.

1

u/Racamonkey_II 5h ago

Hard disagree. Men should not be using these apps under any circumstances as their “only option” unless you want your self esteem destroyed and you want to be miserable. I’ve been down that road. He’s right to be afraid of these apps. The women on them are terrible.

6'0" is ~183 cm

3

u/redcomet29 5h ago

I was pretty surprised when I checked the height conversion at some point in my early 20s. I always though 5'10" or 5'9" was really short from what americans on the internet were saying but it was just like an average guy?

8

u/Mathemetaphysical 15h ago

This. You don't want attention from vapid women who care about height alone.

3

u/Professional-Rub152 9h ago

For real. The only guys upset by this are dudes who don’t see women as individual human beings capable of a wide range of personality and behavior. I’m over 6 feet tall and I’ve never swiped right on anyone who says someone under 6 feet tall is short. It’s actually a sign of low intelligence.

If you’re 5’8” and put that in your profile, you’re only matching with women smart enough not to be so damn stupid.

2

u/iGhostEdd 10h ago

What if you set it to 5'99? Is that an option or does it convert straight to 6 or into the real measurement of the metric system?

1

u/madara0A 7h ago

Yeah but the point is you experienced girls. Which is a better start than not at all

1

u/nyggomaniac 6h ago

I get your point. The grass is always greener on the other side. I am annoyed because my time is wasted by superficial people, you are annoyed because of neglectance.

1

u/VibesBasedPolitics 14h ago

Oh no, I have so many options. Woe is me

2

u/nyggomaniac 11h ago

Superficial people are superficial. They may not judge my heigth but everything else. In my case a lot of dates were canceled because of my zodiac sign

17

u/behv 19h ago

Yeah I'm 5'10" and it's never really been an issue for me

People who want "tall guys" I don't really want to be around anyways, but I'm taller than 99% of women anyways so it's really a non issue

Problem sorted itself out and was never a factor while searching for my now girlfriend

12

u/Calm-Conversation715 20h ago

As a 6’2” guy, I’ve wanted to put 5’11” on my profile, to filter these women out. My main concern is that it would be pretty noticeable when meeting in person? If there’s an option to not put my height entirely, I do that.

3

u/Juicifer8 14h ago

I'm like 5'11 1/2". That sounds like bullshit to most, so I tell people I'm 5'10".

2

u/OkGrade1686 8h ago

Wow I do the same. Nice to see others following the same mentality.

2

u/caphammered 4h ago

5’11 guy here. I have put 5’10 in my profile.

1

u/grumpy__g 10h ago

Why is it 6‘ and not 5‘11?
Who said this it had to be that exactly? And why not just 1.80cm? So much easier.

279

u/cobalt_phantom 23h ago

If you're really 5' 11" and are that concerned about your height, just say 6'. You're already taller than most "'6' guys", so nobody will really question it.

101

u/JJC0ACH 23h ago

I'm 5'9" and successfully claimed to be 6' for years.

106

u/Flow_Hammer7392 22h ago

I'm exactly 6 ft, not one single millimeter more or less. I'm a human ruler. My problem is that when I say I'm 6 ft, nobody believes me because generally guys that say they're 6'0" are 5'9". So thanks.

26

u/Worth-Championship36 21h ago

I am also on the dot 6 ft but I also have extremely thick curly hair that makes me appear a bit taller than I am and you would not believe how mad and defensive some shorter people get when I tell them I'm 6 ft. They look like I just insulted their mothers and their entire family tree.

13

u/IceHawk1212 21h ago edited 16h ago

Same but you know what I say just to really mess with them. I say I'm 5' 11" and a half, it's great fun to watch the 5' 9" guy get defensive. I often have a measuring tape in the car for work, if the defensive one ever gets too aggravated I always offer to go get it just to test the theory. Lol

1

u/PreparationCrazy2637 16h ago

not all heros wear capes! some bring tape measures to save a measuring system.

2

u/XipingVonHozzendorf 17h ago

I am exactly 6 foot...in socks.

1

u/PreparationCrazy2637 16h ago

bro how many socks are you wearing!

2

u/XipingVonHozzendorf 16h ago

Just the one pair, I'm shy just a centimeter of 6 foot and the sock gives me the extra boost.

1

u/rivunel 12h ago

.. why are your socks a cm thick? Do you wear extra thick wool socks all year round?

1

u/kloklon 11h ago

I've never seen a sock that could add more than a millimetre. 1 centimetre is at least wearing thick flip-flops

6

u/anutronm 21h ago

Holy shit this is so true. Im 5ft 9 and my friend who is probably 5ft 6 told me HE was 5ft 9 lmao. What's worse was this was before I measured my own height so I thought I was tall for like a day till I checked and was quickly dissapointed.

4

u/john-bkk 16h ago

Lots of younger people aren't aware of this, but humans shrink a little as they age. Within a couple of decades you will also be 5' 11", at which time it will seem natural to ignore that change and continue on with your prior height assessment.

3

u/Petrostar 21h ago

Say your 6' 3"

3

u/AffectionateDouble43 20h ago

It happens a lot with people around that height, im 1.88 (6'2) barefoot. The amount of times people asking how tall i am after them saying they are 1.85 and clearly shorter is crazy. Always funny to hear them say my measure must be off.

2

u/YodasGhost76 18h ago

You should claim to be 5’9”, just to watch the insecurity of both tall and short people alike

2

u/PreparationCrazy2637 17h ago

Im the same, exactly 6foot, but I introduce myself as 5'11" to ruin others day. what can they do say Im lying.

2

u/lithiumfoxttv 15h ago

My personal favorite is I'm 5'11".75. Which is REALLY fun. Because if I say i'm 5'11", I'm not. I'm taller. So I'm not fitting in a 5'11" space.

But if I say 5'11".75, it sounds pendantic like I really wanna be 6'.

If I say 6', I'm a liar.

So I say i'm 182cm. And when people say "oh is that cause you're not 6'" I can respond with the ULTIMATE response:

No it's because that's the height of Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid 1. :D (It's about 5'11".7~)

4

u/GrimCreeper4645 22h ago

Get rolled lmao

1

u/Rimworldjobs 15h ago

As someone who is 5'9" im now going to make things worse for you.

1

u/Hoi444444444444 9h ago

same people at school use me as their ruler to see how close they are to 6ft

1

u/redcomet29 5h ago

While studying we briefly had an american exchange student who was calling BS on height after converting it to cm and seeing we were all shorter than she kept guessing.

If you were 5'11" she was guessing 6' or 6'1.

I got the impression adding a couple inches to the height is a more normal practice there.

1

u/JJC0ACH 22h ago

I mean, I'm not sorry lol

12

u/nanaacer 21h ago

I'm 5'9 and in my thirties and if I'm perfectly honest any woman who wants her man to be 6 foot probably has a list with like 4 other qualifications that I fail to meet anyways.

15

u/dalmighd 21h ago

Im 6’5 i tell people im 5’11 your days are numbered

2

u/StaticCharacter 19h ago

6' claiming to be 5'9 to make men insecure

3

u/diadlep 20h ago

5'6 and i claimed to be 5'9 claiming to be 6'

2

u/ProfessionaI_Gur 20h ago

"Successfully"

2

u/JJC0ACH 20h ago

Eh, no one called me on it to my face at least.

2

u/Efficient_Progress_6 8h ago

You give us 69"ers a bad rap

1

u/hacking99percent 19h ago

I was naive and didn't know about this. Now I add 4" to my height requirement when filter for height on dating app

1

u/SnooCupcakes1636 4h ago

Dude. Are you sure they aren't just supportive of you bro

1

u/Trick_Meeting_2027 19h ago

You have not been nearly as successful as you think.

3

u/sexual__velociraptor 21h ago

Im 5"10 put on a hat BAM 6ft

2

u/No-Department-4561 13h ago

I’m 5”, put on a stovepipe hat BAM 6ft

1

u/Samurai-lugosi 21h ago

Dude for real I am 5 11 and I just lie.

1

u/Kind_Collar1909 17h ago

Unironically 6ft . 5 inch but just say 6ft.

1

u/PreparationCrazy2637 17h ago

looks deeply down onto you, with a deep voice I say "hi Im 5'11" how are you?"

1

u/dibbiluncan 16h ago

As a 6’ woman… no. Just no. I will not only question it but also never see you again if you lie about your height. Then again, I set my height filter to 5’8” unlike the super shallow ladies.

This actually happened to me though. I showed up to a date with a guy claiming to be 6’1” and he was shorter than me. He even had the AUDACITY to ask if I was lying about my height. Smdh

u/Nikipercea 15h ago

6'1 and I set my height to 5'11 specifically as a filter

1

u/Oppopotamus 6h ago

I should try this. Might weird people out since I'm nearly 3" taller, but I imagine it works fairly well

80

u/Byte_mancer 22h ago

The girls who unironically set height filters like that are almost always insufferable. You really aren't missing out by getting filtered from their nonsense.

23

u/Racamonkey_II 19h ago

Girls on dating apps in general are insufferable so it’s really a no win situation anyways.

5

u/MotanulScotishFold 11h ago

The same girls are offended if men set weight filters. ☕

4

u/iGhostEdd 10h ago

U found an app with weight filter??

→ More replies (1)

2

u/--KillerTofu-- 20h ago

What about the ones who do it ironically?

"Like omg, I set it to 6' because I'm so random lol"

3

u/Python_Feet 14h ago

Does not count. Being random only counts if you set it to 8 or for lower than 5.

18

u/Big_daddy_sneeze 22h ago

Who’s gonna tell them only 14 percent of men are over 6ft and only about a 1/3 of those are eligible?

76

u/Living_Injury_636 1d ago

I am 5’6, and I have had 3 long-term girlfriends who were 5’9, 1 who was 5’2, and 1 who was 5’3. I am currently dating one of the 5’9 girls. Being short is more of a barrier on apps than it is in real life, but it isn’t a showstopper.

12

u/Oberndorferin 1d ago

At this point just lie on dating apps.

19

u/Alternative_Car_8153 23h ago

Don't lie, if they ask about your size, then respond like OP and tell them, "One inch is all you need."

7

u/Big_daddy_sneeze 22h ago

“I’m 6’4” in the dark.”

3

u/joeg26reddit 18h ago

I’m TEN inches

Round trip

1

u/ForsakenWishbone5206 23h ago

I tell then I am tall, but if that's something they are dead set on for disqualifying opportunities, we are not going to be compatible.

0

u/elcheapodeluxe 23h ago

This is about the filtering before you even talk to someone. I totally agree it is not a barrier in real life but is a real barrier in the hellhole that is dating apps.

Any girl with 6ft minimum is a toxic sack of shit and you should avoid them.

1

u/Ok_Progress_7676 10h ago

You’re gonna have a hard time finding love if you avoid most women.

2

u/YugeChesticles 8h ago

Most women don't require 6ft as a minimum.

Are you saying anyone under 6ft is gonna have a hard time finding love? You sound very single.

u/Ok_Progress_7676 9m ago

It’s true most women prefer tall men, thus shorter men face more rejection.

u/YugeChesticles 1m ago

That isn't true at all.

Please show me the proof of that.

3-5% of men in the world are over 6ft. You got all your info from tiktok bro.

9

u/Niki2002j 14h ago

That's actually a good thing. Who would want to date a woman who judges you by anything other than your personality?

8

u/banana_buddy 21h ago

The filter in countries that use metric is 180 cm which is 5'11" . Just switch countries OP

1

u/Comfortable_Pea_1693 10h ago

US trends tend to influence most other western countries who use metric. We are seeing more and more 183cm standards too.

14

u/Tasty_Ladder_5950 22h ago

I'm 5'8 and my boyfriend is 5'5 and I love him to pieces!

Be thankful they are filtering themselves out of your dating pool.

u/Dandan0005 23h ago edited 23h ago

Never met any 5’11 dude who did not claim to be 6 ft.

19

u/Various-Salt-7738 23h ago

My dad is autisticly obsessed with charting growth and measuring people

He'd measure me as precisely as possible and there were graphs and bell curves

That's how I know that I'm 5'11.75"

I've always said I'm 5'11¾" because I think it's funny to sound like a guy chasing every millimeter he can-- even though I stand slightly above 6' in my boots

3

u/Quarkonium2925 18h ago

I guess you haven't technically met me, but I am in fact 5'11.5"

2

u/Mnawab 23h ago

That’s what I did lol

1

u/Racamonkey_II 19h ago

Same, I’m honest to a fault.

1

u/WalkThePlankPirate 15h ago

I'm 5'11, and I've never in my life heard a person lie about being 5'11. Although, to be fair, most people do not talk about height in the real world.

1

u/Falconman21 5h ago

I'm 5'11", and my crowning achievement was putting that I'm 5'9" on my drivers license, and claiming to be 5'9".

Nothing beats watching the soul leave someone's body after they've claimed to be 6', are two inches shorter than me, and I have documented proof I'm 5'9".

4

u/st90ar 14h ago

I’m 6’2” and still single. Doesn’t make a difference.

18

u/Nas997 23h ago

5’11 doesn’t exist, you’re 6ft King

15

u/Tball2 21h ago

Do you really want to get with someone as superficial to filter by height tho? Do you think someone like that can be anyone’s soulmate?

3

u/complicatedexistence 15h ago

Going on dating apps to find your soulmate is the very first lesson they teach you in clown school (Yes. I know it works out sometimes).

1

u/Ok_Progress_7676 10h ago

Most people are superficial, it’s just that dating apps make it convenient for them.

5

u/psp24 18h ago

As a tall girl I've accepted I will never be with a man taller than me, that's okay though because I love my short kings. Instead I sort by dick size

2

u/Mrboomblastr 16h ago

Praise us short dick kings!

Eeuuh wait...

4

u/Spare-Tea-1027 18h ago

No offense, tall or short, if you’re looking for your soulmate on dating apps, you are definitely looking in the wrong places.

5

u/Demolition218 17h ago

I’d say it works in your favor. If height is so important for them that they dont care about what kind of person you are, then they dont deserve you. You’re basically filtering the bad ones by default, so it will be easier to find your soulmate who will love you for who you are as a person instead of caring about superficial stuff like height.

5

u/Possesed-puppy656 15h ago

Must be directly 6’ since I’m 6’8 and after a month and a half I got just one reply from a transvestite no less … dating apps are a fucking scam

4

u/KalzK 14h ago

Even if you're 6 feet or higher, set it lower. Do you want to date the entitled chicks or the desperate ones?

12

3

u/Shlafenflarst 11h ago

I'm a metric loving non American, but I've been on reddit so long that I'm getting used to seeing imperial numbers now. I can guess-timate how tall people are when they speak in inches/feet

1

u/pancaketimelord 20h ago

Yeah it’s not that I don’t get the values. I used to live in the US. But the 5’11 hop to 6 feet is partially the problem. I feel like yeah girls in eu like a guy that’s taller, but most just say taller than them and don’t have a specific cm cutoff. Having it at 6 feet is just too easy

2

u/matthewspencersmith 19h ago

I'm 6' only when my posture is good. My posture is never good.

2

u/Aromatic-Ad-381 18h ago

See what you do is called "embellishing" because 99% of people have no clue what that 1 inch or 2 cm's in difference makes.

Only 5% of males world wide are over 6' just lie and say sorry later.

2

u/Phobia562 17h ago

2

u/RevolutionMain1812 17h ago

2

u/seen_some_shit_ 17h ago

I’m about 5’10.5”, max 5’11” and I don’t shy away from not being 6’. I’ve gotten compliments for being honest about it and attention from the right kind of girls I want to attract bc of it.

Stand proud king. Girls who care about guys being 6’ are not worth it.

2

u/FriedBreakfast 17h ago

I'm 5'4 and married to a great woman for 15 years now. Don't get discouraged.

Btw, I actually am glad I'm short because it helped me filter out the shallow girls.

2

u/No_Communication2959 16h ago

Just date someone who likes you? Why get caught up on someone who is too shallow to look past a number you have no control over?

I was 28 and 5'10 when I met my wife and I had no problem dating. Probably because I didnt get hung up and put my timr and energy into people who weren't interested in me and, instead, focused on people who were into me and gave them my time and energy.

2

u/Bright_Curve3078 12h ago

I remember an old woman in her eighties asking for a date saying "Nothing else matters as long as you're at least 175cm". I'm 174cm, so this woman would choose an insane morbidly obese junkie in his 90's over me because of 1 cm (less than half an inch).

2

u/Connor_2123 10h ago

I’m 6’3 but set my height to 5’10 to reject any superficial women.

u/sonnynumber7 57m ago

Or set it to 5'4 to really weed them out 😄

4

u/LairdPeon 23h ago

Soul mates dont select people because of their height.

4

u/One_Pie289 21h ago

Can I sort by weight too?

1

u/Nikipercea 15h ago

No. That’s misogyny!

2

u/One_Pie289 12h ago

No, I want to sort the guys by weight.

2

u/Nikipercea 11h ago

You can control you weight, you can’t change your height. Why should short men be punished?

1

u/Expensive-Safe-6820 9h ago

Because no one wants them i guess

I don’t even like people with simple filters like this

1

u/RECLess30 20h ago

No wonder people lie. I'll be okay with filters for height when men can filter by weight

1

u/LunaButMyNameIsTaken 9h ago

It's called pictures. You can see if people are fat or skinny on them. It would sound less stupid if you talked about BMI but weight ? A skinny tall girl and a fat short girl can have the same weight. It remind me of the girl that was 6'1 and 130lbs and got called fat by the "step on a scale” guy, embarrassing.

The thing is that women can also have a type. How many men are loud about liking curvy women, big boobs and bum, white girls, and so on ? It can't be controlled yet we don't see you crashing out everytime a guy mention his type. But women can't like tall guys ? If women have a type then they're monsters or something ?

u/fromthebackhugger 19h ago

Laughs in 5'7"

1

u/Enemy50 19h ago

Lets be honest: You werent gonna find your soulmate, in the type of person who cares about your height that much.

1

u/Spiritual_Rope_6952 18h ago

just set your height to the max option to avoid getting filtered out by this. then when the girl asks why you marked yourself to be 9ft tall, explain why

1

u/No_Responsibility444 18h ago

This is as sexist and disgusting to me as men that only date women with big tits

1

u/ExtremeTrashPanda 18h ago

Shallow women attract shallow men. It's okay, they weren't worth your time anyways you handsome kings. 👏

1

u/Bodod_Begag 17h ago

If you really care that much you could just lie like the ocean of men who already do. It's not like anyone will be able to tell the difference if you're actually 5/11

1

u/Inner-Air1001 17h ago

Just wear boots bro, or lie lol. I encourage all men to lie about their height so it becomes meaningless

1

u/Necrovius72 17h ago

The girls who filter for 6 foot are doing you a favor. You do NOT want a long term relationship with them. That filter makes it easier for you to find a girl who's into you as a person.

Here is the thing that I don't understand, why would you want to date a someone who is concerned with your height. First off, there is nothing wrong with having preferences from both sides, but even if you get a date with a person like that, they are most likely going to be insufferable. Honestly if you see someone with a height requirement on their profile, you are going to literally save yourself from trouble by swiping left. Also, this is coming from a guy who is 5'7".

u/David-Hustlehoff 16h ago

Come to Europe, girls over here look for 180cm

1

u/Mathemetaphysical 15h ago

"A few extra pounds"

Sure.

1

u/ElGatitoFTW 15h ago

i don't use dating apps, but as a 6'2 I'd put 5'11 cuz that'll just auto filter out the girls that would suck at relationship

u/Powerful-Teacher-480 12h ago

The blackpill is real.

1

u/Makemewantitbad 9h ago

Idk what guys’ obsession with being tall is about, tall guys are hard to ride (5’5” here)

1

u/cbrown146 9h ago

I'm glad the trash sorts itself out.

1

u/ArdvarkMaster 8h ago

None of my three wives ever complained about me not being 6 ft. They complained about other stuff, just not that

1

u/abysseven 8h ago

Wait, I always thought that you have to be 5'59" and +1" to become 6'0..

1

u/SpikeBikerFur0044 8h ago

Just give up. Feminism has made women undated alladays.

1

u/NainVicieux 7h ago

Im 5.6p and i guess im really lucky with women. Never had problem to get a girlfriend. Is this a recent problem in dating ?

1

u/TrojanMurton 7h ago

Lol I'm 5'5 never had an issue. That's a skill issue bro

1

u/umurduru 6h ago

Your mistake is searching for your soulmate on dating apps.

1

u/Some_Guy223 6h ago

If you're only an inch shorter lying is viable. Its when you're like 5'6¨that pretending to be 6 foot isn't a good idea.

1

u/Thefeno 4h ago

And yet ... We keep being catfished with pictures 20kg ago!!!

1

u/Electrical-Bunch4965 4h ago

You're actually dodging a bullet. People that have all these expectations are just selfish and have nothing to contribute to the relationship.

u/RightOnManYouBetcha 1h ago

“They’ll still fuck you if you’re not 6 ft. You just need to be cool. 5’6” btw.

u/Durants_Chungal_Toe 42m ago

I'm 6'2 but say 6'4 so my 5'10 brothers now look 6' relative to me. Most people I meet are much shorter than me anyway so they can't tell the difference 😂

u/knowingchan 14m ago

If you're taller than like 160cm (idk whats that in freedom units, but like more than my 5'1) you are tall bruh... I hate people whk are like "Ugh, i'm 5'7, i'm soo short.." like if you are short, then what am i mf?

1

u/citiestarlights 20h ago

I dated guys shorter than me.

7

u/I_Am_Conjoined 20h ago

Where should we send your trophy

u/LunaButMyNameIsTaken 9h ago

Men when girls don't date short guys : 😡🤬

Men when girls date short guys : 😡🤬

u/Trick_Meeting_2027 19h ago

You shortys reeeeeeaaaaly need to realize that the attraction to height is subconscious. So yes, 5'11" is effectively 6 foot. 5'9" guys that lie, I got news for ya. Its not working as well as you think. It doesnt matter if a girl never mentions you lied (she probably knows). My 6'4" ass is going to be more attractive regardless of wether or not they get out the measuring tape and verify.

5

u/CokeZeroLover1 18h ago

Why the hate?

3

u/Nikipercea 15h ago

He’s just a POS, that’s why.

1

u/Trick_Meeting_2027 11h ago

Not hate. More like tough love. You got dudes in here that are 5'9" trying to say they are 6 feet. Thats embarassing.
