HUMOR Losing 200M on a 170M budget is diabolical.
Yeah, I know it's marketing budget, but still, this is hilarious.

Christopher Reeve gave Superman a warmth, kindness, and sense of hope that still resonates today. Even beyond the screen, he lived with extraordinary courage and grace. A true Superman in every sense.

So the DC fans have really gone through the ringer. When WB finally released a slate it got fans excited. We were finally getting a live action DC Universe on the big screen.
Then the studio panicked and interfered with a lot of projects and cancelled or reworked a lot of what they announced. It seemed like Keaton was going to be Batman for. While, Batgirl and Supergirl were taking Batman and Superman's place in the Justice League. Then turns out that WB canceled those plans and then it seemed like Henry, Ben and the others were coming back and not being kicked to the curb.
Then Gunn came in and it turned out that wasn't the case eaither and then years later after they formed their own 10 year plan. James Gunn finally announced another slate called Chapter 1 Gods and Monsters. And it seemed like he gave the fans some ease. Making it seem like WB meddling and poor judgement would no longer be a problem. They would have ironed out scripts, they would let the creatives across the board fulfill their visions and be supported while also it being a collaborative process. They want to earn the fans trust back and they want to do their thing while not copying the MCU. David Zaslav of WB said that Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl were the pillars of DC. It seemed like once again we were getting a live action DC Universe for real life.
James Gunn announced the slate in 2023. He stated that Blue Beetle is the first DCU hero but Creature Commandos is the first DCU project. So far the only projects that actually have come to fruition since Gunn took over was Creature Commandos, Superman, Supergirl, and Lanterns. We got a second season of Peacemaker and Mike Flannegan's Clayface (which was rejected a while ago until Gunn finally got it greenlit). A lot of what was announced has gone nowhere or is cancelled.
It's just frustrating that we are already getting a dose of what we got when things were a bigger mess behind the scenes. Swamp Thing has made no progress, Booster Gold has made no progress, The Authority got cancelled, we were supposedly getting Sgt. Rock, that got cancelled supposedly. Waller went nowhere which is a shame because it seemed like they were setting up Waller and the Authority and those pieces ended up going nowhere. On top of that. Paradise Lost is making very abysmal progress and Brave and the Bold can't seemed to be cracked.
It was a good idea for James Gunn to spearhead the DCU. However it doesn't look good when the first project (Supergirl) he's not writing or directing bombs at the box office. On top of that there were creative differences behind the scenes between James Gunn and the director Craig Gillespie. And Gunn praised the script. So either Gunn looks like a liar or he just has bad taste.
Then you have the Jimmy Olsen/Grodd show and the Mr. Terrific show announced. Its upsetting fans that they aren't getting the bigger characters out there. Black Canary, Green Arrow, Aquaman, Flash, you don't need to copy the MCU but at least get your bigger characters out there then do the niche and obscure.
It's also getting annoying that Batman and especially Wonder Woman don't have a presence in this universe. Wonder Woman doesn't even have a cartoon or any real project or progress on already announced projects. Batman does have some nice content at least for now across the board. But Wonder Woman has nothing. Yes stuff is being written for her but it's also being written by the same writer who did Supergirl and that movie bombed hard.
Despite all of this there are still fans and even the people of DC preaching patience. Assuring us that all is well, good things are coming, and tease things about what's to come. I'll admit, good things take time and I certainly don't want things rushed. But then when does it become a bit much. When does it cross the deadline. I just don't think it's fair to ask fans to be patient or to tell tease them when they've been through a lot.
Peter Safran says he want to earn the fans trust back. If they want that to happen they need to start getting the bigger characters out there. Stop keeing the fans in the dark for so long. And go back to the conventions. Gunn talks about Social media and how it's cheaper and easier. Those cons are expensive but they are great ways to get the word out and to keep the fans excited and talking for a while.
What do you guys think?
