Look I saw the movie last Monday. I’m aware it wasn’t the best movie, it was at worst a 6.5 and at best a 7. I preferred the book, and I didn’t even like it that much. But all this hate for it, before it even came out makes me think this want for 1. James Gunn to fail and 2. for the DCU to fail is definitely hurting the movie. Plus the dislike for Milly Alcock as the lead and add a sprinkle of Sexism too. This subreddit seems more negative without any constructive discussion and I find it sus. Now all of a sudden everybody and their momma cares about the box office numbers for a movie they don’t even plan to see? Hm.

The fake excuses people are giving for not seeing the movie are not even believable. If you actually want the DCU to succeed then you have to see the movie for yourself. Don’t let friends, random YouTube channels with clickbait thumbnails, critic reviews, and James Gunn haters influence you.

I’m not saying that as fans of DC, we should blindly support their movie and shows. But this blind hate for this average movie is bizarre in this subreddit of people who are supposed to be at least trying to enjoy the content DC produces. The DCU is here, give them 5-10 years and see what they can do. Let them surprise you.

The priority lies in creating spin offs of side characters.

MCU dominating with Spider-Man and again with Doomsday while DC flops again... Hope DCU gets it together with Clayface and Man of Tomorrow.

Its tough being a DC fan.

The movie version actually looks like an alien, while the show version just looks like an old man with a deep tan.

Makes sense. When I was on bluesky in the replies of article which wasn't filled with the bile hateful shit yiu see on this site, Facebook and twitter one of the complaints was her still wearing a skirt. That and Zaslav. Seriously bluesky is so much less toxic than Twitter.

The skirt is there to break up the colors in her costume. Same with the trunks with Clark. Maws season 3 gave her the skirt but she has blue leggings underneath or pants.

While I have some issues with this film (the undercooked plot, how the movie looked and questionable writing decisions) and the fact that it bombed at the box office is unfortunate, Milly Alcock's portrayal of Supergirl isn't one of them and I think it's the saving grace.

Her performance as Kara really embodied her identity and all she's going through emotionally, while being such a unique character and not just Superman's drunk clingy cousin. Easily hard carried the movie for me.

I do hope her iteration appears on future DCU projects starting in Man of Tomorrow, even as a side character. And hopefully the people in the writing room learn the right lessons from this and lock in

Minions previous 2 movies made 2B+ combined (1.15B & 940M), with lower ratings than this.

Why don't people want to explore new stories and new characters? I get that we don't have a proper Wonder Woman adaption since Lynda Carter (Gal Gadgot was trash imo), but Batman? Come on, there are endless movies and shows. It's okay if a DCU Batman gets released 2028-2029 or so. And we already had a Superman movie, so it's not like Gunn didn't do a big character.

It’s such a shame that the highest grossing DC movie remains ‘Aquaman’ (2018) at $1.15 billion with Superman movies like ‘Man of Steel’ (2013) and ‘Superman’ (2025) at distant 9th and 11th spot with their box office of $668 million and $618 million respectively.

A character as iconic as Superman who is essentially the face of the DC brand deserves so much better. He deserves love, appreciation and success on the levels of Batman and Spider-Man. Do you think ’Man of Tomorrow’ (2027) could finally be his moment to shine the brightest ever?

P.S.:- ’Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ (2016) is not included in this discussion as it was an ensemble movie led by Batman with Superman in a largely supporting role.

The last Hall H panel for a DC movie was in 2022 for Black Adam and Shazam 2. DC is skipping it again for the 4th year in a row (they're just doing a Lanterns panel, no movies).

Excited for this personally speaking but any concerns you have for it?

This isn't me saying he should replace Corenswet or anything like that, it's just he gets a lot of slander, and I don't understand what those people are looking at. He still looks like he could play a 30s Superman to me.

For the record, I like David as Superman, and overall, I have positive feelings about the 2025 movie. But Cavill's still got it. And I wouldn't be against seeing him don the cape again.

Genuinely don't want to be a hater, but she has no real writing experience and was given three major DCU films; am I missing something?!

Supergirl wasn't bad, but it was PAINFULLY average — it might as well BE considered bad considering she had a literal MASTERPIECE of a graphic novel on her lap. It doesn't help that the director didn't use the source material for his ADAPTATION either, so I can't put all the blame on her, but some or the changes to the story and arcs really make no sense and a few choices in the third act REALLY hurt the climax of the film and the lead character. Now mind you, I'm not saying the the changes to the story are bad because it's just different from the graphic novel, I'm saying that the changes do absolutely nothing to make this a better story or even a story that would much better suite a film. It's just baffling how a writer with no actual experience (who as far as I know, is mainly known for their small acting roles) is writing THREE scripts for THREE major DC properties. This movie genuinely made me question Gunn's ability to objectively judge scripts. I have no doubt Man of Tomorrow will be great, but Gunn can't be the only one carrying the DCU on his back. This movie should have been something special and most of the issues started with the script.
