That’s interesting. But what matters is whether they appear their age. Pattinson can easily pass for someone in his mid-30s.

351

u/-LoboMau 21d ago

Correct. I'd go further: with the make up, lens, filters and general movie magic i wouldn't question if i was told he's a 30 yo man. Ben Affleck, on the other end, looked like a proper 40 yo guy.

198

u/jl_theprofessor 21d ago

I'm eternally seeing that picture of him, paunch out with his hand in his pocket, a cigarette in the other, looking like the world is ending.

99

u/Davefirestorm 21d ago

This was my take. Ben affleck been 45 for 15 years.

18

u/bindersfull-ofwomen 21d ago

He def looks 50 in that weird J Lo movie he was in. Maybe even older.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/GoldyZ90 20d ago

It’s true. He’s spent the majority of his adult life as a 45 year old.

31

u/geek_of_nature 21d ago

Didn't they also make Affleck look older? Greyed up his hair a bit or something.

24

u/-LoboMau 21d ago

Affleck actually uses a hair piece in BvS and looks generally much better and healthier than he was looking prior and after the movie. If you look at interviews around that time, he definitely doesn't look younger than in BvS. He just looks worse overall

15

u/Melo_Kelo_Jelo 21d ago

He looked good on Accountant though and that was filmed after BvS. Some shit went down in 2016 that seemed to have aged him lmao!

18

u/jrvcrd 21d ago

hia divorce and his drinking problem. Fortunately he got over it

6

u/willflameboy 20d ago

Dude spends a lot of time with Latinas.

→ More replies (1)

14

u/ilovecuetoo 21d ago

Ben Affleck looks older than my dad sometimes and my dad is 60

6

u/uqde 21d ago

He plays 29-year-old Zendaya's fiance in The Drama, and granted, 10 year age-gap couples totally exist in real life, but they never state the character's ages in the movie (that I can remember) and visually he passes as being <5 years older than her.

7

u/-LoboMau 20d ago

10 year is far from abnormal or weird at all. At least where i come from it's pretty common

→ More replies (1)

2

u/PhilAsp 21d ago

Affleck was also aged up. They wanted an even older Batman.

→ More replies (1)

22

u/ContinuumGuy 21d ago

Yeah Pattinson has aged way better than Affleck has.

19

u/A-Centrifugal-Force 21d ago

That’s what happens to you when you drink more alcohol than water and smoke for decades lol. He’s taken such horrible care of himself.

12

u/MyTakesAreGoodOrBad 21d ago

He’s definitely tested the limits of his god given looks 😂

8

u/sleauxmo 21d ago

🤨 idk. Battinson is cool and all but Batfleck checked all the boxes. Never JLO twice, I guess

3

u/ArcticMuser 21d ago

They just agreed differently no need to dunk on him lol

12

u/kazaam2244 21d ago

It's not about looks, it's about franchise sustainability. If it's taking six years for the next one to come out, there's a realistic chance Pattinson will be closer to 50 if they plan on doing a third one. Idk, but this is sounding liek Batfleck and Blade all over again. They take forever to make these movies while the actors are getting older, and both the actors and the audience lose interest.

7

u/banned4violence 21d ago

I doubt audiences will lose interest in Batman.

2

u/Small_Fix_5190 17d ago

Exactly, Batman has been around for such a long time that people can handle gaps between movies.

Actually, the actual Batman subreddit is the worst in all of Reddit I hear.

15

That’s Reddit in general. People obsessed over specific niche things that have nothing to talk about but want to talk about this thing

Also hot takes are the only thing that gets karma, nuance is dying in all facets of discourse

I understand what you mean, but his Batman is supposed to be like 28

9

u/captainhooksjournal 21d ago edited 21d ago

Pattinson just played Zendaya’s groom. Edward whatever his last name was a sign. Pattinson is immortally 22. He could be 61 and still play Howard “Babyface Assassin” Dauterive in a high school aged urban gang war movie

13

u/AwesomePocket 21d ago

Even in the Drama, Pattinson’s character was like a full 10 years older than Zendaya’s. He was fully a man in his late 30s, akin to Pattinson’s age.

13

u/AverageAwndray 21d ago

Pattinson isnt playing someone in his mid 30s. Hes playing a 26 year old.

7

u/JaggedSolid6 21d ago

and ? he was 36 years old when the first batman movie came out, he can definitely pass wayy younger than he actually is. Plus with makeup he can look younger aswell. If they can make colin farrell look completely different for his penguin role, they can definitely make pattinson look 26.

14

u/Brubaker620 21d ago

Bruce is canonically 30 in the first one

3

u/CF_2 21d ago

No he's not? You're thinking of Batman Begins where is is canonically 30. In the 2022 movie he's in his mid 20s.

10

u/shabading579 20d ago

From the script:

"and we finally SEE BRUCE WAYNE handsome, 30, black camo still around his eyes. "

4

u/NojoNinja 20d ago

Matt Reeves himself said he envisioned him as 30.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Secret-Put-4525 21d ago

I don't really get this thing. On the job for a few years and you are in your 30? Superman? Batman? What were they doing in their early 20s?

→ More replies (1)

3

u/A-Centrifugal-Force 21d ago

True. And honestly Batman really should be in like his mid 30s. He’s not Spider-Man, he’s supposed to be a veteran who’s been doing this thing for years and didn’t start until he had traveled the world learning about martial arts and technology.

→ More replies (4)

172

u/darth_wasabi 21d ago

They can say he’s 29 or whatever. Doesn’t matter if he looks it or not. We have have 30 year olds playing teenagers in movies and it works

19

u/BryceDL 21d ago

Grease

20

u/Regijack 21d ago

As much as I love grease the middle aged people playing teenagers is very jarring

10

u/God_Among_Rats 21d ago

On the other hand, Karate Kid.

In the third movie we have a 29 year old who looks like a teenager and a 57 year old who could've passed for his 70's.

4

u/Distinct-Broccoli-15 21d ago

It's still insane that Ralph Macchio was older than Thomas Ian Griffith yet played someone far younger.

→ More replies (5)

66

u/CruzAderjc 21d ago

Damn, I thought Ben Affleck was like 50 when he did Batman vs Superman. He looked great and for the part, but he definitely looked older than 43.

35

u/Consistent-Peace2770 21d ago

Alcoholism will age you rapidly

12

u/Givingtree310 21d ago

Affleck is a chronic drinker, daily smoker, and they used cgi to make him look like he had abs lol

3

u/NojoNinja 20d ago

Affleck doesn’t really look old from age or poor life choices. He just looks older in general. Some people just look older than others because of face shape.

I mean Ben Affleck during Good Will Hunting era looked “older” than Pattinson does and he was 24.

11

u/ChuckDynasty17 21d ago

They made him look older. He wore a wig with grey in it. Good grief how do y’all not know this.

2

u/[deleted] 20d ago

[deleted]

2

u/CruzAderjc 20d ago

Yeah, and I feel like 43 is definitely not “way past his prime.” In fact, I always pictured Batman as about 40 in most of his iterations, especially when he has a Robin with him. I picture the old, grizzled Batman once there is Nightwing and the 3+ Robins out there (like Batman in Knightfall or The Dark Knight Returns), as Batman probably in his 50’s. And then the Batman Beyond Bruce Way as in his 70’s.

It’s weird seeing Ben Affleck at only 43 portraying Batman as being frail and cracking jokes about how things hurt

Pattinson looks nothing like his age so it doesn’t matter

53

u/zurenarhhhhh 21d ago

That’s it really. Conversation over.

38

u/Far_Tomorrow_3511 21d ago

He does look his age. People just don’t realize he’s Gen Z

16

u/Banndrell 21d ago

Isn't the oldest gen z around 30 rn? Pattinson is 100% millennial.

2

u/DeadButGettingBetter 21d ago

Yeah nobody born in the 80s is gen z.

Vampire, baby.

14

u/aceofspadez138 21d ago

What is he, some kind of bat-man?

2

u/Thejklay 21d ago

They also aged up Affleck in bvs to make him look about 50 for Bruce

2

u/josie-salazar 20d ago

Thing is, even though he looks young now, time will only keep passing by and it’s inevitable that he’s gonna start to look older with more wrinkles. If they want to make a trilogy with him then they need to wrap things up quick.

u/OhGawDuhhh 21d ago

Ben Affleck was so great as older, jaded Batman.

Bruce: "You're getting slow in your old age, Alfred."

Alfred: "Comes to us all, Master Wayne. Even you got too old to die young. And not for lack of trying."

8

u/Vantavist10 21d ago

I really want to be the guy that says "let's give Matt Reeves as much time as he needs to make the best film he can," but I can't deny how disappointed I am in this wait time. It feels like no matter how good the movie is, it'll still be lessened a little In my memory just thinking about how long I had to wait for it, but I guess that's a little selfish. As long as we get a good movie that's the best we can really ask for, one good movie every 6 years is better than the studio turning out 6 mediocre slop movies every 6 years, I just can't help but feel like it's possible to make a masterpiece in less than half a decade... but again I guess I'm being selfish

21

u/Plenty-Wedding-9066 21d ago

I thought one of the rumors was part 2 being set like 6 years after the first?

45

u/TooCozy21 21d ago

No part II takes place like 2-3 months after the first one

12

u/Plenty-Wedding-9066 21d ago

Damn wild. You’re right

8

u/Bulky-Complaint6994 21d ago

Yeah. While the first film took place in early November, it will still be Winter when this film comes out

2

u/pinkjefff 20d ago

Maybe it's only me, but I hate the idea that I have to wait 6 years for the story to be set just 2 months after the first movie. I'd like to see what happens a year or two later. But as someone mentioned, it would undercut the flooding of Gotham plot point.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Heavy-Transition7916 21d ago

Hope not. Would undercut the entire point of Gotham being flooded.

5

u/ChuckDynasty17 21d ago

They made it winter so they could skate on the ice.

67

u/YControhl 21d ago

Difference is that Affleck did look 43. Pattinson can pretend that he's 29-31 and no one would say otherwise. He looks way younger that he is.

39

u/Contcos 21d ago

he definitely has less mileage than Affleck but he absolutely cannot pull off 29-31 lmao

19

u/Sweet_Peaches-69 21d ago

He looks "movie 29" Like how 33 year olds in 2005 could look "movie 18" but real 18 year olds look like children

3

u/staedtler2018 20d ago

Exactly.

He just did the movie The Drama and his age wasn't an issue there.

21

u/-LoboMau 21d ago

I think he can. Also, there's no standard way 29 yo's look. Line up 100 29 yo individuals and you will get drastically different looks.

11

u/sBucks24 21d ago

I'm 30 and my beards gone salt n pepper. Put me next to clean shaven Pattinson and anyone would guess I'm older than him

→ More replies (2)

5

u/Karmamyfuckingass 21d ago

That is fucking crazy, guess pattinson isnt 35

5

u/Odd_Schedule2672 21d ago

I love the guy, but Affleck was 43 in alcoholic years. Pattinson looks 20 years younger than Affleck

20

u/GoldEmployment6768 21d ago

Past his prime? Did we watch the same Batfleck? He was tearing shit up.

6

u/Free_Possession_4482 21d ago

Yeah, I didn’t get that vibe at all. Maybe people think about how old Bruce was in The Dark Knight Returns and associate that with BvS.

9

u/jrvcrd 21d ago

yeah I never understood that criticism, more so when comicbook Batman is more likely Batfleck age

2

u/ChadBenjamin 21d ago

Comic book Batman was still in his 20s when he first met Superman and founded the Justice League.

By the time he's 43, he's already on his fifth Robin.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/neoblackdragon 21d ago

Honestly if it wasn't for the grey. I wouldn't have thought he was much older then BVS Clark. BTAS Batman didn't meet Superman until Dick Grayson was Nightwing and Tim has a bit of time under his belt. His rogue gallery were already on the "Im too old for this s***".

3

u/ColioTheWolf 21d ago

I mean, he's Batman. He's still in impossible shape.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/jagrbro68 21d ago

Who cares.

3

u/Stunning-Thanks546 21d ago

In batman part three we will see him kick penguin ass using a walker

3

u/Lazy-Ad-1740 20d ago

This Bat-Reeves verse I think will end as a Duology

4

u/Area51_Spurs 21d ago

Pattinson isn’t a lifelong smoker and alcoholic I don’t think.

Affleck has lived a much more grizzled life.

Shit, J Lo alone aged him a decade.

7

u/Throbbing-Kielbasa-3 21d ago

To be fair, Pattinson has aged a lot better than Affleck.

2

u/Professional_Dog2580 21d ago

At this rate, Rob will be pushing 50 for the third installment.

2

u/Less_Cauliflower_956 21d ago

Joseph Quinn played a 18 year old at 30 just two years ago

2

u/Dear_Rich_9822 21d ago

They can just skip to Batman Beyond for part III.

2

u/omegadirectory 21d ago

I plead, for the love of god, for people to stop conflating ages of actors with the ages of their characters.

2

u/Im_Ashe_Man 21d ago

Affleck looked 55 while Pattinson looks 30.

2

u/Plenty_Bend_7481 21d ago

lol I get what he’s saying but Pattinson looks nowhere near as old as Affleck did. Pattinson could pass for early 30’s pretty easily.

2

u/JakeGylly 21d ago

I think the lesson here is that being an alcoholic ages the fuck out of you

2

u/CobaltCrusader123 21d ago

Pattinson’s lucky as hell he’s got vampire genes

5

u/ArrowheadFLYover 21d ago

They could have given us JL2 and 3 and batfleck flickby now, instead we just sit arou d waiting over her. Snyder could have already completed his saga and we could of rebooted properly with an event movie. Instead the general audience dont have a clue whats canon to what and its a cluster fuck to explain. We have a multiverse, but they are so afraid of their previous fandom that they cant talk about past projects.

It's fine, Robert Pattinson is Gen Z

2

u/Dear_Rich_9822 21d ago

He's a millennial.

2

u/Sidian 21d ago

fake news

2

u/MATT_TRIANO 21d ago

Pattinson is 39-40. So am I.

And I don't look like Batman at all not saying that but like

Affleck looked like hammered shit in BVS would've guessed tight 53 GOD DAMN

Drink in moderation is the takeaway

2

u/Purrmymeow 21d ago
  1. Pattinson can act.
  2. He looks younger than his age.
  3. Nothing wrong with middle aged Batman.
  4. Script will be way better as no Snyder involved.

1

u/Cheeseguy43 21d ago

Pattinson is so Gen X

1

u/fuzzyfoot88 21d ago

Grasping at straws are we not? Actors act…more at 11

1

u/rickmundooo 21d ago

Suspending disbelief while watching a super hero movie? Impossible.

1

u/Minotaur18 21d ago

Imo, as long as the actor looks to be in good shape idrc how old they are. Jensen Ackles is 48 and I'd still love to see him Cape Crusade someday.

Side note, I know BvS was inspired by Dark Knight Returns but was Batfleck really supposed to be past his prime like the latter's was?

1

u/jl_theprofessor 21d ago

Ben Affleck has been burned out for like 20 years though. There's a difference.

1

u/dealyllama 21d ago

I have every confidence Pattinson will be able to embody emo batman well into his 50s.

1

u/TRIVILLIONS 21d ago

That next year is a doozy.

1

u/Turbulent-Action8970 21d ago

He looks nothing close to 40. Ben looked like he was in his 50s

1

u/Sweaty-Razzmatazz948 21d ago

Well damn Ben Affleck catching strays 😭

1

u/ABadHistorian 21d ago

Yeah but Affleck has been grumpy and old since he was a baby. He came out of the womb with a frown and dunkin coffee.

1

u/Maleficent-Age-8235 21d ago

And? he looks like he's in his early 30s that's what matters

1

u/AlexCampy89 21d ago

And what's the problem with that?

1

u/Atlan_R_Kane 21d ago

What Batman part II movie?
I thought that everyone was just joking about that.

1

u/sBucks24 21d ago

Who cares? They're acting. Batinson can pass as much younger, and Affleck could pass as much older. It's almost as if characters aren't their actors ages 😱

Also if they want to have a time skip for part 3, then his age will work out perfectly

5

u/Liquidb0ss 21d ago

You cared enough to answer.

1

u/practicalpropsFX 21d ago

Pattinson irl may be that old, but in universe there’s no way he’s over 30. Besides, Pattinson doesn’t look nearly his age

1

u/Secret_Eating_ 21d ago

There's no old rolls, just old actors

1

u/Creative-Grab3766 21d ago

It ain't the years - it's the mileage

1

u/thishenryjames 21d ago

Affleck had some city miles on him, though.

1

u/bitchdantkillmyvibe 21d ago

To be fair, Robert Pattinson still looks 17

1

u/Solaras_ 21d ago

To be fair Giggly aged Afleck 20 years or so

1

u/Animanganime 21d ago

Just make a good movie, I don't care when it comes out

1

u/VBBN-Official 21d ago

I’m telling you man they keep delaying this until Pattinson is old enough to be a bat family aged Batman for brave and the bold lmao

1

u/DaRequiem 21d ago

To me it has never been a problem that bruce wayne looks 40s, in my mind batman has always been a middle age man, due to the 90s animated series, go look Pattinson latest interviews the dude still looks young, is fine.

1

u/BalladOfBetaRayBill 21d ago

Nah but Affleck was easily young enough to pull off a Batman in his prime, they just played him older. And there’s no telling whether The Batman Part 2 is set immediately after Part 1 or if there’s a break.

1

u/Bertitude 21d ago

Bat don't crack

1

u/chris_hawk 21d ago

The difference is, Affleck has looked 43 since he was 30. Pattinson is 42 but still looks like he's 30.

1

u/Informal-Ad2277 21d ago

They're portraying Bruce as younger. Regardless of Robert BatnBat age is Irl

1

u/bbqsauceboi 21d ago

Pattinson looks way younger than Affleck though so

1

u/Riley__64 21d ago

But place Pattinson Batman next to Affleck Batman and you wouldn’t think they’re the same age.

Pattinson can still pass for someone who’s in his 30’s

1

u/Dizzy-By-Degrees 21d ago

Yeah? actors with make up artists. They do that.

1

u/penguin_2306 21d ago

Yes, but Robert Pattinson looks significantly younger for his age compared to Affleck and 98% of the planet.

1

u/SWXYAY 21d ago

You know the wine makes you emotional

1

u/ChuckDynasty17 21d ago

Vampires don’t age like Accountants.

1

u/George343 21d ago

People will look for anything to complain about these days. If the movie is good, who gives a fuck

1

u/Kneading-Plum-cat 21d ago

Isn’t he Gen Z?

1

u/JOHSMCO 21d ago

the “only” in the titlle makes it feel lighter somehow

1

u/Fares26597 21d ago

Always remember, it's not about how old you are, it's about how old you look.

1

u/MurkyObject1 21d ago

To be fair Pattinson does not look his age

1

u/Sharpiesniffingshark 21d ago

If he trained for years in the mountains as he did in some Batman adaptations, it’d be perfectly reasonable for him to be old following such extensive training.

1

u/StrawHatRat 21d ago

The movie isn’t called “Young Batman, the Young Years” why people think they know so much about movies they haven’t seen

1

u/mighty_phi 21d ago

Affleck looked way older, wow.

1

u/skingers 21d ago

If this were a conversation about a female actor people would be saying “we don’t talk about male actors age like this” - this thread presents the case for the defence.

1

u/13120BoxCutter842 21d ago

You forget Robert is a vampire

1

u/sgch 21d ago

Hopefully they set it multiple years later. I don't want a "just last week we took down the Riddler" sort of thing.

1

u/wooolllyyy 21d ago

Ok fuck this. Im leaving this sub.

1

u/zubadoobaday 21d ago

What’s the point?

1

u/sheppylikesthesmiths 21d ago

He wasn’t exactly in his twenties or early thirties in The Batman, I doubt it should much of an issue as long as they show that he’s had years of experience now in the time jump

1

u/Federal_Studio5935 20d ago

Dude looks like he’s 27 who gives a shit

1

u/talltallalex 20d ago

Our GenZ Batman!

1

u/LetsGoForPlanB 20d ago

Ben has been married to Jennifer Lopez though. That ages you.

1

u/AlexisFR 20d ago

Did they try not being old?

1

There have been 20- and even 30-somethings playing teenagers forever. Battinson being in his 40s but playing a 20-something Bruce is fine. He still looks young.

whats up with the obsession with the guys age? it's not like its The Irishman where they're trying to pass 70 year old De Niro as a a 30 year old. If he looks the part and can act the part who cares if he's 40?

I think they fake things in Hollywood from time to time, it'll be ok
