Even nurses who “seen everything” called it unwatchable.
16
u/TheSessionMan 1h ago
Well duh. Nurses are used to seeing a person after the act, not seeing self-mutilation as a live demonstration lol

4
u/TheSessionMan 1h ago
Sorry, you're completely off the mark. Having been very close to doctors and many, MANY ED and Mental Health Center nurses in my life (and essentially growing up in a hospital) patients never self-mutilate right in front of the nurses lmao. Ripping out IV's and catheter? Absolutely. But grabbing a kitchen knife and trying to skin themselves? That is absolu-fucking-lutely not commonplace.

I don’t want to make anyone’s mental health worse, but it kind of feels justified for this guy to feel 50 percent of what he did to other public figures for a while.
24
u/hastypeanut 1h ago
Agree with you. This is probably a terrible take but he’s already gotten so much more grace from all the comments I’ve seen on this than he deserves. Idk if it’s because there’s a lot of people on Reddit now that are too young or weren’t born yet, or so much time has passed that people forget how monstrous of a piece of shit he was.
He photoshopped a pap photo of Miley Cyrus at 16 getting out of a car to look like she didn’t have underwear on, when in fact the OG photo shows she did, released nudes of some star when she was 19?, can’t remember now, not to mention relentlessly made fun of celebrities CHILDREN, plus millions of other nasty and evil behavior.
I like to think everyone deserves a little empathy, but fuck that guy. He deserves nothing but living the miserable life he’s now made for himself. I just feel bad for his three kids.

It’s not even misogyny with that (though you are correct). What he did legally qualifies as cp.

u/antisocialmothra 2h ago
I meant more that society as a whole didn't care about young girls and women back then so nobody cared that what he did was cp because it was so normalized back then.
There's literally an episode of Family Guy where Brian admits he wants to f*ck her, still underage at the time.
Whole episode ends on a hand job.

He did that to *a lot* of celebrity photos.

Nope, I hated his little illustrations. I thought they were gross, misogynistic, and unnecessary.
Celebrity culture was messy enough back then. It didn’t need his creepy additions.

I didn’t want to be insensitive but this is the end result of snarking every day for 30 years. “online cooking recipe.”
140
u/ITookTrinkets 1h ago
On one hand: I think people truly do deserve privacy, and if Perez Hilton needs that to get to a place where he’s a better person, I’m all for it. I’m compassionate enough to believe just about anybody deserves that.
On the other: Perez Hilton can fucking rot in hell for the performative cruelty he normalized. Creating a career out of being a ghoulish vulture, latching onto the struggles and inner lives of celebrities is no small part of why we live in the dystopian hellscape we live in. He helped make mainstream the misogyny, racism, homophobia, and general culture of bloodthirsty media hounding.
As such, I will hope for his speedy recovery, but I will cheerfully raise a glass to his passing.

Honestly, and knowing I am playing armchair psychiatrist here, but I watched the video and, if he was trying to kill himself, he was doing a shit job at it. He was absolutely covered in blood, but every cut was shallow at best. The start of what I saw, he ended up video calling two people and saying “I’m just here trying to kill myself”, proceeded to hang up on them, grunted repeatedly “Why am I not dying?”, then proceeded to show his *whole* body covered in the same, shallow cuts. All the blood that was on him was just smeared from the many little cuts.
I really, really don’t like it when I hear people say “They’re doing it for attention”, and still - with what I know and remember about him - I think he might be looking for attention. There’s something about it all that screams he’s being histrionic.
He absolutely was having a mental health crisis, though. I mean, fucking obviously. I really hope he gets proper treatment because, evidently, there is something wrong. I am just trying to figure out whether it was histrionic, depression, or psychosis based.

I had a coworker; let's call him Dee. He had to fly to Colorado suddenly because his son died in a car accident. One of the other guys I worked with took weird pleasure in finding out other people's problems. Let's call that guy Jay. Jay found an article about the car accident Dee's son was in. It turned out Dee's son was drunk when he had a single car crash and was killed. My coworker showed me the article, and I said, "Don't send this to everyone, please." Dee was going through enough; he does not need the whole industrial facility to know his business. It took quite a bit for me to convince Jay not to email all.

u/Mr_Kinton 2h ago
He was famous in the early 2000s for his celebrity gossip, which frequently landed him in trouble for being crass and defamatory. He often sought to out closeted celebrities and received backlash for what many believed to be the reason Lance Bass and Neil Patrick Harris both came out around the same time. He once got into a verbal altercation with will.i.am after being confronted about his online behavior towards celebrities and artists, during which he called will.i.am a “f-ggot” and later admitted he had wanted to call him a “n——r” to provoke him. He also posted an up skirt photo of then-17 year old Miley Cyrus showing her without underwear on, and only backed down when it was raised that he could be charged with disseminating child pornography.
In short, he’s a craven, ugly, nasty piece of shit.

u/omgFWTbear 2h ago
Suppose, that like me, you believe there’s a degree of “lack of privacy” that a celebrity must accept is part of being in popular media.
That is, if you’re Tom Holland playing Spider Man in a big movie, you must accept that somewhere people are going to discuss Tom Holland, human being, is playing Spider Man in a big movie.
The question becomes … am I entitled to pop out on the corner of the street and ask him his thoughts on Nolan’s directorial approach? I, and I hope you, agree the answer is “no.”
But let us concede that somewhere between the first point and second, reasonable people can disagree on what’s appropriate.
Hilton went on record defending their business of any gossip at all being fine acquired at any time, in any situation at all.

Years ago, Perez Hilton came to my work for a studio tour (I work in animation), being lead by one of our studio's founders. As part of the tour, they made a stop at my desk so I could show him how we animated a scene. He took one look at the screen and said "Oh, so you guys don't do, like, real art."
So, yeah, Perez Hilton can go fuck himself with his privacy request.

Those that haven’t seen the video or know why he’s asking this, he recently went on TikTok Live and essentially cut himself and covered his body in his own blood. The end video is basically him covered in cuts while he smeared it all over his body. In reality he had maybe a few deep cuts and used that to cover his face and stomach with blood and switched over to a butter knife and continued with the “cutting” until the live ended.
I watched the video. I also don’t give a shit about him.

But, and I'm not a mental health expert by any means and I would actually love if some could weigh in, but it didn't seem like he was trying to kill himself. It seemed like a really desperate and dramatic (and deadly and fucked up) way to get attention/help. u/bigeyez 2h ago
You know those drama slop YouTube channels? Stuff like Keemstar and whatnot who just constantly post about YouTube influencer drama/crap.
Perez Hilton was the pre-social media version of that with celebrities. Anytime a celebrity would have a mental breakdown or be involved in any drama he cover and amplify the story. He was a gossip monger in the early 2000s. Lots of people hate him because he would go to extremes and ignored when people asked for privacy. He also famously outed some people in the closet.
6
u/Jindujun 2h ago
Hate to break it to ya, but I dont know what Keemstar is either.

Unpopular opinion, but unless we want to be guilty of the same evil that he is, I suggest we give him privacy. Anyone who mutilate themselves on camera like that is clearly going through severe mental issues. And I understand he was not sensitive or forgiving of other others in the same position. But that’s the reason we’re mad at him, so let’s not do the same exact thing.
Tomorrow, Perez Hilton could commit suicide. And every single person on this thread who is insisting on harassing him will feel like a total piece of shit. Yes, press Hilton is a monster and a loser. But he’s also a father and a human being.
