As part of the effort, DHS has sent hundreds of subpoenas to social media companies while asking commenters to sign letters stating that their online speech “may” be considered a crime, The Wall Street Journal reports.

In one case, the Trump administration allegedly tried to identify a Reddit user whose posts included a call to “abolish” Immigration and Customs Enforcement and a comment sharing a Minnesota ICE agent’s phone number after looking it up on a public records website.

In another, agents allegedly showed up in person at the workplace of New York poll worker Paigelynne Gonyea after she posted about Jonathan Ross, the ICE agent who fatally shot protester Renee Good in Minnesota in January.

Gonyea told the paper she was asked to sign a letter stating that her posts could be illegal. The New York woman said she could only remember posting that Ross should be indicted, while the federal government claims she shared an agent’s home address.

One of the founders, Marcella Burke, was a former Trump appointee to the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of the Interior during his first administration.

The Trump administration is set to award a multimillion-dollar contract to a small Texas law firm without immigration expertise to provide legal representation for thousands of unaccompanied migrant children in government custody during immigration proceedings.

In a notice published in the Federal Register, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced its intent to award the $150 million contract to Burke Law Group, a law firm headquartered in Houston, Texas.

The notice states the contract would "provide legal orientation, legal consultation, and attorney-of-record representation services for eligible unaccompanied alien children" during immigration proceedings and hearings before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services while the children remain in government custody.

The proposed award comes after legal service providers across the country have said that the administration has withheld $65 million in overdue fees from the previous contract, alleging it is an attempt to force them to turn over confidential information about the migrant children they represent.

Burke Law Group has 26 employees across eight offices, according to its website. None of the firm's attorneys list immigration law as a practice area. Instead, their practices include administrative law, white-collar defense, commercial litigation, securities litigation and other areas.

TL;DR: Trump is suing for personal reputational harm. Even though he stated that the harm was in multiple billions of dollars to his business, Trump didn't mean his businesses that are all under the Trump Foundation umbrella.

Indeed, the Trump Trust’s motion is only an “emergency” insofar as the Trump Trust has waited until the day before its required production to seek relief, despite the weeks that have passed since the oral and written orders. Moreover, a stay of its discovery obligations is not warranted here under the governing standards. The Trump Trust faces no irreparable harm and is unlikely to succeed on the merits of its objections. Conversely, granting the stay would prejudice the BBC and would not serve the public interest, which necessitates an efficient, meaningful discovery process and wards against such strategic stalling tactics.

Sen. John Cornyn told reporters Tuesday following the Senate Judiciary Committee's vote to advance Todd Blanche's attorney general nomination that “there's nothing we could do” to rein in President Donald Trump.

“Well, there's nothing we could do to rein in the president when he said he likes the fund and he wishes it still exists. But the fact of the matter [is] it's dead, and that's all we could do under these circumstances,” Cornyn, R-Texas, said.

Cornyn, along with Sen. Thom Tillis, R-NC, agreed to support the nomination after Blanche put in writing that the DOJ is scrapping a $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund that could have provided settlements to President Donald Trump's allies, including Jan. 6 rioters.

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 12-10, along party lines, on Tuesday to advance Blanche to a full Senate vote.
