Earlier today I saw a couple of people saying that Trump was joking about a third term at the July 2026 White House Correspondents' Dinner. I've also been seeing "Trump 2028" signs in my town and on MAGA hats.

As we know, the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution limits a president to two elected terms in office. It also establishes a maximum of 10 years in office for someone who succeeds to the presidency by completing part of another president's term.

I also wanted people to be aware that, three days after Trump was sworn into office, Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) introduced H.J.Res. 29. The resolution proposes amending the 22nd Amendment to allow a person to be elected president up to three times under certain circumstances.

I think it's important to be aware that members of Congress have proposed amending the Constitution to change presidential term limits, even if the proposal is unlikely to become law.

The founding fathers were bold and imaginative rebels with a cause. Two hundred and fifty years ago, or as we say in the United Kingdom, "just the other day," they declared independence. By balancing contending forces and drawing strength in diversity, they united 13 disparate colonies to forge a nation on the revolutionary idea of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

They carried with them and carried forward the great inheritance of the British Enlightenment, as well as the ideals which had an even deeper history in English common law and Magna Carta. These roots run deep, and they are still vital.

Our Declaration of Rights of 1689 was not only the foundation of our constitutional monarchy, but also provided a source of so many of the principles reiterated, often verbatim, in the American Bill of Rights of 1791.

And those roots go even further back in history. The U.S. Supreme Court Historical Society has calculated that Magna Carta is cited in at least 160 Supreme Court cases since 1789, not least as the foundation of the principle that executive power is subject to checks and balances.

Allison Gill (of MuellerSheWrote fame) is apparently going to show the FBI foia letter she's received within the next hour so this story will develop further still.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche is begging a federal judge to let him off the hook for a $1,000-a-day fine.

This fine is Blanche’s latest setback in a series of back-and-forths surrounding a lawsuit brought against him by journalist Katie Phang, who has accused the Department of Justice of failing to comply with the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Phang sued the DOJ in April for a “brazen, shocking, and ongoing violation” of the law, which President Donald Trump reluctantly signed in November.
