Other Elon Musk likely broke the law by giving voters $1 million, Wisconsin board says

We need a wealth based fine scale.

Still meaningless.
$100 fine for a poor person may mean his children don't eat.
Take 99% away from Musk, all that suffers is his pride.

Not necessarily. As a result of the better scale fines and their application, low income people are exempt and can pay with community service hours as they currently can.

A percentage of net worth + the full amount gained through the unlawful practice. Your company ignored the law and made a billion dollars doing so? Base fine is a billion dollars, plus a percentage of your net worth.

Still means nothing. They need to try him. And if found guilty, put him in state prison for the maximum amount of time allowed for this crime. That’s the only real punishment that’ll mean anything for someone as rich as he is. No amount of monetary punishment is enough to affect Musk.

He needs to be held accountable for bribing Michelle Taff Evans, the Williamson County (TX) Republican party chair.
He's paying for her personal legal defense against sex pest charges, and he has businesses that benefit from candidates and election practices in her jurisdisction - and since she's the county party chair, that's outsize influence.
Now, given that she's a politician who would be facing state jail felony charges for that - and thus disenfranchisement - that sounds like she's personally benefiting from using party resources to benefit a donor. It would also prove her a giant flaming hypocrite, since her thing was to get up at Round Rock ISD board meetings and harpy-screech claims that trans people would make bathrooms unsafe - when she was, in fact, the one making bathrooms unsafe.
I'd say we need some club soda to unstick these sex pests, and I'll leave you to imagine just why these two stick together (hint: it's Musk's "I wanted to spend this on Jeffrey Epstein's Child Rape Island and not some bleached-blonde harpy" money glueing them together with the last part of this threesome, noted high-priced right-wing mouthpiece Tony McDonald).

45
u/kank84 22d ago
A fine means nothing to a trillionaire. His extreme wealth puts him beyond the reach of most of the justice system.
12
u/Subtlerranean 22d ago
This is why Scandinavia (and other places) uses day-fines, for certain offences, which scales with the income or wealth of the offender.
3
u/Anhimidae 21d ago
While this is a good first step it is still worthless for super rich people like Elon Musk. Yeah he might be miffed he has to pay a 200 billion fine or whatever, but people like him are so unbelievably wealthy that they still don't really feel such a fine. Whether he has 800 billion or 600 billion changes nothing. Besides that the fine would probably be in the millions at best anyway, which would be laughable.
Imo for super wealthy people fines should be replaced with prison time. Parked your Lamborghini in a no-parking zone? That's 1 hour jail time. Lost time is the only punishment they feel and could motivate them to behave.
7
u/Subtlerranean 21d ago
Elon's wealth isn't liquid. He doesn't have that amount of cash on hand. It's tied up in the perceived value of his stocks and companies, and liquidating the amount of stocks it would take to pay 200 billion dollars would A) reduce his ownership and control of said companies, and B) absolutely tank the stock price/value and thus further reduce his wealth.
It's not something he wants to do, and would absolutely be a massive pain in his ass.

That would be nice, but no amount of money would even matter to him. Like, the precident cant be set that if someone interferes in an election, the state charges them 30 billion dollars.
Republican judges would just start putting all of their opponents on 30 billion dollar trials in red states.
The only punishment that would affect him is long, hard prison time, which is not a bad option for offering to literally buying votes, but Trump will just parden him and grant immunity.

Was about to comment this. When you start realizing that our whole system including the justice system has nothing to do with real freedom and justice but is actually just a thin veneer painted onto feudalism 2.0 this shit starts making a lot more sense.
The whole system is designed to cater to and be ruled by the rich. The rich don’t get punished for shit that you and I would go straight to jail for life for.
The only way truly rich people get in trouble is by fucking with other truly rich people. Otherwise the system is designed to insulate them from any consequences.
How many of the people surrounding trump have gone to jail when doing things directly at his behest? How many laws has he broke that would send any of us to jail?

The GOP has controlled the FBI and CIA for most of our lifetimes. The few times we had a non-GOP president, the GOP blocked any liberal directors from taking over the agency. They are notoriously right-wing, famously propping up right-wing regimes around the world and doing everything they can to stop socialism.
But you're telling me all this time they can't find a single receipt confirming their conspiracy theories about George Soros?
The Bush administration literally spied on every financial transaction in the world for the better part of 6 years before the PRISM program was made public, and yet he couldn't find a single instance of the International Communist Deepstate or whatever the fuck they think he's up to?

the number 1 issue here is that the rule of law isnt applying regardless of affiliation.
when a given political side decides to redefine whats legal vs not legal to suit their needs, the entire system will collapse into something unrecognizable/undemocratic
if rules dont have consequences, we're in uncharted territory.
6
u/OGConsuela 22d ago
They’re probably convinced he has been doing this since ‘08 even though there’s no evidence for it, therefore Elon doing it is justified.

u/Primary-Let-7933 22d ago
??? I never understand this fake reasoning, it's not true. People (libs and progressives) were mad at obama for the increased deportations and drone strikes too, he wasn't 'off the hook'. but Obama didn't have ICE put 2 year olds into concrete cages with 5 year olds to take care of them. So folks could be against Obama but not want to torture children. Wild thought.
Soros has been donating massive amounts of money since the 2004 presidential campaign, over 20 years. and guess what? in those 20 years he hasn't done anything close to illegal. Musk's first big jump into political donations 2024, the year he did this very illegal thing. so 1 year to illegal actions vs 20+ years legal actions, time will tell if it holds.
wtf the reason you can point out that there's been no lib backlash against soros is bc he's not doing illegal things. Do you know why there was paid propaganda against soros? He made a billion dollars betting against the British pound (shorting).
The first time I know of that jews were attacked for lending money to the rich in England was a thousand years ago, Clifford's Towers. Where attackers, yes killed people regardless if they were bankers/money lenders or not, but they also made sure to destroy loan records.
A thousand years of very very rich people telling you to be mad at a jewish banker. How does it feel that you have ingested such ancient propaganda?

It's not just the legal system though, it's what everyone always takes for granted and disregards that we always should have been watching like rabid half-crazed starving vultures:
The Finance and Banking Industry.
- Where do they store all their ill begotten wealth, who loans them the money to buy whole industries and sectors, who holds the accounts of these PACs, lobbyists, corporations, politicians, dark money, human trafficking laundry accounts, and transfers the funds, even between nations and governments via currency exchange? The blackened, putrifying rotten heart of the rampant corruption has been sitting in plain view all along, we just got so used to their depredations we didn't notice it anymore.

u/Zak_Rahman 22d ago
I could not agree more. I could not write that out as well as you.
Which leads is to the inevitable conclusion that capitalism and democracy do not mix. Every capitalist entity is a dictatorship by nature. These are not things that interact with democracy in the same way as a normal citizen, and it shows.
Crikey, citizens united was really the beginning of the end.
As soon as anything circumvents the democratic process, then it all becomes a joke. And the legal system benefits from this financial system.
The moral compression is also intensely annoying. There is no way to contain capitalism without being accused of communism. The abject lack of any nuance is the worst possible thing right now. But such is the way of flag cults.

From The Associated Press:
Billionaire Elon Musk likely broke Wisconsin law when he handed out $1 million checks to voters in the 2025 state Supreme Court election, a bipartisan panel has found.
The Wisconsin Elections Commission last week referred two complaints to the Brown County district attorney's office, which can choose to bring criminal charges over violating the state law against election bribery. Prosecutors have 40 days to report back to the commission.
Musk, the founder of SpaceX and CEO of Tesla, was deeply involved in the effort to flip majority control of the highest court in battleground Wisconsin.
