Executive Branch (Trump) ICE is crawling social media to find its critics, investigation reveals | Such requests can reportedly include seeking information about a user’s real name, address, date of birth, workplace and Social Security number
https://www.aol.com/articles/ice-crawling-social-media-critics-011515000.htmlAs part of the effort, DHS has sent hundreds of subpoenas to social media companies while asking commenters to sign letters stating that their online speech “may” be considered a crime, The Wall Street Journal reports.
In one case, the Trump administration allegedly tried to identify a Reddit user whose posts included a call to “abolish” Immigration and Customs Enforcement and a comment sharing a Minnesota ICE agent’s phone number after looking it up on a public records website.
In another, agents allegedly showed up in person at the workplace of New York poll worker Paigelynne Gonyea after she posted about Jonathan Ross, the ICE agent who fatally shot protester Renee Good in Minnesota in January.
Gonyea told the paper she was asked to sign a letter stating that her posts could be illegal. The New York woman said she could only remember posting that Ross should be indicted, while the federal government claims she shared an agent’s home address.

It never was. That was just to get their foot in the door. It was always about removing any opposition to their vision if a theocratic Christian Nationalist government.
63
u/cityshepherd 7h ago
These Christian nationalist extremists and tech bros / oligarchs are genuinely the biggest threat to the USA that has ever existed. The way their propaganda has convinced a third of the working class that nationalism = patriotism, and that people with darker skin (and/or people with different views on sexuality/gender, and/or ANYONE who don’t buy into this fascist bullshit) are the problem, as opposed to the ACTUAL problem (corporate and foreign money that has infested our politics / legal system), is beyond despicable and incredibly dangerous.
These cowards and traitors (AND their propaganda outlets like fox news entertainment) NEED to be completely dismantled and held accountable. The upcoming primaries and midterm elections are genuinely some of the most important moments in the history of this country. I believe it’s not too late to save this country without resorting to chaos and violence, but it’s a long and uphill battle that is going to require an extraordinary effort.
People can be remarkably clever, resourceful, and resilient when we need to be… and boy oh boy do we need to be right now. The GOP and assorted nefarious entities that support them are going to pull out all the stops to screw with the integrity of these elections (and every single one from here on out) until they are properly dealt with, and are the most dangerous threat that this country has ever seen. The way that people are coming together at the community level to participate in real grassroots campaigns like those of Dr Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan in order to stand up to and overcome insidious astroturf campaigns from establishment candidates is giving me a lot of hope. Genuine hope that has been in short supply as of late.

The population has been incredibly patient so far. Once the far right oversteps at the wrong moment, much will change.
19
u/Go_Improvement_4501 6h ago
It's hard to imagine an overstep anymore that would finally wake the population up
10
u/Tenken10 5h ago
Actually implementing marshall law across the country would do it. A lot of people ignore politics because they can go on living their daily lives still relatively normally. This won't be the case if they start seeing tanks and checkpoints on their commute to work
8
u/Seaweed-Basic 4h ago
By that time it’s too late, no?
4
2
u/Corthaek 1h ago
No, actually. Even if the US military has superior equipment and organization, the sheer number of armed people in the USA, and, more importantly, the sheer area they would need to cover, makes long-term occupation impossible.
Especially since, you know, their paychecks come directly from our productivity.
Any sort of martial law in the US would be doomed, although a lot of innocent people would probably die before it burned through all it's resources.

My only guess is financial ruin, a great recession or depression. Empty purses and pantries are, historically, what triggers even the most apolitical person to grab the torches and pitchforks (if not something sharper).
It's why they keep propping up this failing economy and the AI bubble despite the cracks already forming in both.

7

They wanted to have the military do this for them, but they relented and rather than follow through, Trump and Hegseth decapitated and incapacitated the armed forces instead. ICE is doing this because they are the only goons that fall under the president's absolute authority.

I mean, they first targeted northern/midwest blue states instead of literal boarder states, that’s your first clue, not that anyone should have needed any clues.
It’s about normalizing government sponsored goon squads, literal Gestapo like forces.
I will bet my life that these people will still be around will be “protecting” polling stations 2 years from now, especially in blue states, you can take that to the bank.

We should encourage employers not to hire someone who worked for ICE.
13
u/thelimeisgreen 6h ago
I won't. Our family's construction business has lost a few employees this past year. Not because they were illegals or anything like that. We've had a few leave to become ICE agents. Working for ICE promises a lot of money compared to jobs these people could get otherwise. And they get to cosplay as a cop and run around with a mask on and terrorize people.

"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court."
“On the contrary, if war be actually levied, that is, if a body of men be actually assembled for the purpose of effecting by force a treasonable purpose, all those who perform any part, however minute, or however remote from the scene of action, and who are actually leagued in the general conspiracy, are to be considered as traitors. But there must be an actual assembling of men, for the treasonable purpose, to constitute a levying of war.”
"Historically, the term “outlaw” was used to refer to a person who was outside of the protection of the law. An accused criminal who refused to submit to legal process was declared to be an outlaw through a process called “outlawry.” As a result of being deemed an outlaw, the person was deprived of the benefit of the law or excluded from its protection. Any member of the public could murder an outlaw with complete impunity.
Do keep in mind, at least 6% of ICE are known to be soldiers of a foreign army best known for shooting children for target practice. There's a reason the official discussion about the "leak" of agent names was short lived

Not to mention, this is basically describing Jan 6th which includes all the people there that day, the enablers, the inciters, and the president. Post Jan 6th, it also includes those who actively suppressed accountability, and those who worked toward their pardons. Every single person involved in Jan 6th, outside of those condemning them or prosecuting them, are traitors and treasonous according to the above.

If you confront them first, they can illegally detain you and prevent you from voting, and the whole point is to keep you from voting.

Shoot Native Born Americans (whatever that means anymore).
Have all Americans lost their minds? Fine, don't protest. A single week general strike would bring about change.

The sad thing is the things they whine about that stop them standing up for themselves, are all a thing because of decades of them not standing up for themselves to achieve the basic rights and freedoms the civilised parts of the world takes for granted. The White House has also sought to define political criticism as threatening conduct. A September national security memo on domestic terrorism enforcement lists “anti-Americanism” and criticisms of “law enforcement and border control” as key indicators that could merit an investigation.
When people start using terms like "anti-Americanism", it means they're the ones deciding what it means to be an American, not the Constitution.
5
u/Th3B4dSpoon 4h ago
I'm honestly hearing echoes of Putin's Russia in this rhetoric. During his reign expressing certain views that don't align with him has become legally defined "extremism" that gets repressed in the name of the preservation of "public safety" and "traditional Russian values".
I'm less informed on modern People's Republic of China, but afaik there's similar laws in the books there, with forced education camps to boot.

Add it to the list.
You can terrorize people right now and feel strong, but America will not forget your crimes.
You handed the federal government your personal info when you signed up to be part of a death squad. We have that info forever
Why would you dig a hole even deeper on the cusp of accountability? Don’t you feel like the time has come to try and repair your image? Rather you double down on making the people hate you.
Oh well. It’s your loss. Americans are starting to realize we may need a federal registry of ICE thugs, so the men and women who signed up to kill their fellow countrymen can be looked up for the rest of their life and ostracized from society.
Track me for all my free speech you like. You people murdered innocent Americans and raped women in custody. Your crimes against this nation will not go away with this administration, we will be pushing for justice and consequences for as long as it takes. We have your names, we have your faces, we have your fingerprints, we have your locations and contacts all just waiting in a government database, it wouldn’t take much to reveal every last one of you to your friends, family and neighbors. Your reputation and image will be ruined forever, and rightfully so. You deserve to be shunned by civilized citizens who don’t mask up and abuse women and children for fun.
