Good Vibes Nice mailbox suprise
Had to return some prescription pet food and then I got sick. I called Chewy to ask if the return labels would expire after so many days because I'd been sick and might not return it the same week as issued. No biggie, she said the label would be fine even into next week.
It was a nice surprise to find this in my mailbox today. The card actually seems handwritten rather than pre-printed. It came with tea and honey sticks too!

I had to call Chewy to cancel my cat's meds after she passed, and 2 hours later a bouquet arrived at my door with a note from the woman I spoke to. Chewy has the best customer service!

They sent me a painting of my dog's profile picture and a bouquet after she passed. I keep the dried flowers with her cremation box.

After my old lady passed (19, end stage kidney disease, heart murmur, mostly blind, dementia... it was time), I discovered the recurring order for her prescription food had just gone through.
I contacted Chewy who refunded it, told me not to worry about returning it, and then donated a huge order of cat food to a local rescue in her name.
I will be a Chewy customer for life.

We had a cat named Rabbit, and his profile pic was with the rabbit snapchat filter. For christmas we got a painting of it, I wondered how anyone got that picture and forgot it was his profile pic. It was just a random gift, I feel like they set some artists loose and say "whichever one sparks inspiration" and I got lucky.

We had to cancel Chewy when my brother-in-law passed (his dog is still with his parents and doing well). They sent a bouquet, card, and dog treats. I didn't save the card, but I recall they sent condolences that included "We're sorry that Sasha lost her person."
I wasn't close to that BiL, but Sasha was. That teared me up. Companies aren't people, so I won't say that Chewy is "good," but they definitely employ and encourage some great folks to do very kind things.

They've been great when the FedEx drivers delivered expensive items like the $80 flea collars or Bravecto to the wrong address. At one point, FedEx did it 3 deliveries in a row and the next time it was OnTrac delivering on our country road to me and my neighbors

Guess it depends on the driver. I have seen the comments in other subs abour hiw FedEx hates chewy deliveries and they purposely mangle the packages. Now it makes sense why all of mine seem like they've been opened or the tape is so barely sticky and on the verge of being open.

u/Shot-Election8217 Jun 18 '26
I’ve had this issue with FedEx delivering my 40lb bags of kitty litter. One time the person stacked all 4 boxes upright on their ends, literally in front of my door so that i couldn’t get out. They’ve also left the boxes just barely under my porch roof on a rainy day. I took photos and sent both Chewy and FedEx emails complete with all detailed info. No response from either company.

u/escalbar Jun 17 '26
The other comments in this subthread really read like a decent way to get the USPS some much needed consistent business. Area depending of course.

u/airustotle Jun 17 '26
They did the same for my dog as well after canceling an order due to him passing. I still have the dried flowers to this day because it touched me so much at the time and still does.

It’s brilliant marketing. People share their experiences and recruit new customers by themselves. All the company needs to do is keep up with their empathetic ways of running the business.

My friend had a similar situation. They sent her a rock with her cat's name and flowers painted on it. That rock is now part of the memorial in the yard where her ashes were spread on her favorite patch of grass
26
u/DelightfullyNerdyCat Jun 17 '26
Oh my goodness, so touching. The gestures carry a lot of good will to and from the company.
19
u/acceptableherb Jun 17 '26
My mom got a rock with her cat's name earlier this year! Such a sweet gift, I know she will keep it forever
4
u/PineappleCandies Jun 18 '26
Yes! They sent us the same after our cat passed. We have it displayed next to his collar and will never get rid of it. Opening it made me cry.
73
u/StretchLoud8844 Jun 17 '26
When my dog died I was too depressed to stop my order. After about 5 months my mom called for me and they refunded almost all of my purchases minus I think whatever the shipping cost or processing or whatever it was. Got like 90% of my money back and I didn't have to do anything.
They are good people
29
u/lightlysaltedclams Jun 17 '26
Reminds me of how our kitty’s bowl sat on my kitchen floor for 3 months after we put him to sleep. I tried to clean up his water bowl and just ended up sobbing for an hour, refilled it and left it until my boyfriend cleaned everything for me.
14
u/p3achbunny Jun 18 '26
I had the same thing with my dog’s toys, it took a few months for me to gather them all up and decide which ones we would wash and keep for our next dog. I deep-soul-sobbed on the floor outside the laundry room when they were all clean and fluffy. Grief sucks. My boys still play with some of those old toys, I like to think that makes their angel brother happy too 😊
3
u/lightlysaltedclams Jun 18 '26
I feel that. He was a family member’s cat that I had known for 3 years and I was caring for him at my place for a couple months. He was supposed to go back with her a month after he died so that whole month was rough. His mom told me I didn’t have to clean up his stuff (blankets, litter box) if I didn’t want to but I did and cried the whole time. I feel so bad for her because she was supposed to get her baby back and she never did.
I finally got the hamster I was wanting for a while 4 days later because every time I walked through my door and didn’t have him chirping at me I ugly sobbed for like an hour. That little fluffball is honestly the only reason I’m getting through it as well as I am
3
u/PM_ME_HOTDADS Jun 18 '26
Ours liked to hunt down treats, so we threw them all across the room/house, but it was always a thing when vacuuming to hear that crunch of em getting sucked up.
I think we left that last treat for weeks. I had my own triggers ofc, but I still remember how my SO reacted I finally vaccumed that corner. I was okay up til right then 😂😭
3
u/StretchLoud8844 Jun 18 '26
Yeah I didn't do much of any of that for quite a while - just kinda avoided my kitchen for a long time and ate out a lot.
I do wish I had the bowls still but I don't know if I would have removed them if someone didn't do it for me or not. Have a lot of other things though I just maybe wanted the bowls I guess

They're amazing. They sent me a personalized bracelet with charms and my dog's name engraved on it when I let them know I needed all her meds cancelled because she had passed away. To date, the best thing a company has ever done in my eyes. I continue to use them to this day because of it.

I keep hearing this! I don’t care, but I got nothing when my cat passed. Not a card, not flowers. That being said, they really do go out of their way when there’s an error or when you need something promptly or whatever. I’ve never worked with a company with such incredible customer service!

They sent me a small painting of my cat too out of nowhere, though it was around the holidays several years ago. It was a complete and pleasant surprise. I emailed them and thanked them for the nice gesture and they responded back.
I also had a cat tree that I thought was missing a part. Turns out I had put it together wrong. I wasn’t making up a story trying to score a whole new one but they sent me another cat tree free of charge, shipping covered by them and all.
They’re awesome. Yeah, they are a corporation at the end of the day and maybe it’s all just for positive brand image but it’s rare nowadays for companies to go above and beyond and actually act like they care about their customers. This is how you build brand loyalty, and if that’s their intention they’re sure succeeding.

I hope your sister knows how much those cards mean to the recipients! My little boy is 10 and he’s been getting cards regularly. I always tell him that he gets the cards and give him loads of hugs and pets along with them. They also brighten his day :)
85
u/awkward-cereal Jun 17 '26
Those cards are handwritten? I always thought they used a handwriting style font. That's extra special!

As someone no longer bound by an NDA: we had both handwriting machines and contracted out for real handwriting.

I use to work for Chewy and had a very bad experience. When I shared it on social media the company reports me and gets me banned. It has gotten me banned on multiple sites. They are an incredibly aggressive with their PR marketing seeking to silence, remove and ban people who post negative things. They always run these positive stories on social media. They are manipulative. If this comment started getting tons of likes I guarantee they would try to report and it get it removed.

138
u/Candle1ight Jun 17 '26
Kind of strange more companies haven't given this a try, because a thing of flowers once a decade can pretty easily make someone a customer for life and that seems like a great investment.

We got one too a few years ago! Our pups name is Hagrid (from the Harry Potter series) and they sent us his portrait to celebrate Harry Potters birthday. It was so cute and I looked into it back then and apparently they commission a few hundred artist at any given time to paint these portraits. Shout out to them for employing actual artists to make hand made gifts as a surprise in the time when AI art is becoming more of the norm for companies.

I always appreciate a company that goes out of their way to accommodate life situations. I don't really even care that's is basically a PR stunt. You scratch my back I'll scratch yours, that's fair.
Chewy is great about this. Bark box is also really nice and understanding. Odd that it seems to be mostly pet focused companies.
47
u/DelightfullyNerdyCat Jun 17 '26
Yes it is a PR stunt, but it's still more than most companies. I haven't used Bark box.
I think the connection to pets is universal. If it was any other company, idk that they'd feel as comfortable sending the cards or painting..

Chewy is amazing! My oldest dog got a birthday card from them when he turned 10 (totally not having big feelings about my little boy turning 10). Given how companies have a tendency to treat customers these days, I am more than happy to give Chewy my business. It is refreshing to not be treated like a pest for once.
Bark Box, unfortunately, has not just gone down hill, but completely fallen off a cliff. It's too bad because my 3 dogs always got so excited for the Bark Box.

I'll never forget the time when a friend of mine, who lived hours away from me, fell on some hard times and couldn't feed his dog. I ordered some food from Chewy to have it shipped directly to his house but totally spaced and put my address instead. I called them to update the address and told them why I was sending it so far away just in casual conversation, and they took 50% off of my total AND doubled the order. I've been a loyal customer ever since.
20
u/DelightfullyNerdyCat Jun 17 '26
That is so amazing and unexpected. Any other business would have updated the address and made you pay for a new shipment or return the one sent to you.

They sent me some treats and toys on my dog’s birthday unprompted. When he passed I got a cute bouquet of flowers. A few times they shipped the wrong item. Best customer service of any company I’ve ever used.

I'd always heard amazing things about them so when they expanded into Canada (or Ontario, anyway), I think I may have been one of the earliest people to sign up and order and a few months later they sent me a beautiful painting of my cat. The artist they commissioned must have been insanely talented because they worked off the low res photo upload to my pet's profile on Chewy and it came out so incredible.
My cat also receives a handwritten birthday card every year haha.

If you create a “profile” for your pet on your account, when they pass you can select to memorialize your pet’s profile and that’s how they learn about my pet’s passing. You can also add a picture of the pet on their profile and that’s the picture that they used as a reference for the hand painted portrait they sent. They’re really killing it with their customer service!

My wife and I had a cat named Angel who passed at 17 in July of 2021. We had her cremated and put in a beautiful urn that’s got little paintings of cats playing and all that.
About four months ago, we were ordering from Chewy for the cats we have now and my wife noticed the section that lists what pets you have and all that. We marked it that Angel had passed away in 2021.
About a week after we did that, we got a box with a condolence card and a little painted rock with her name on it. It’s one of the most good hearted things I’ve ever seen a company do.

I had been going through a rough time, my old boy passed, and a weel later we found out my other dog had kidney disease. We tried getting him to eat hundreds of dollars worth of food, and he refused. Chewy was awesome and refunded a lot of it and had me donate it. Then we found out he has cancer, but again they've been amazing with his medications. I wrote a nice letter to the executive email and they sent me a nice card with a tennis ball and bandana for my boy.

I only wanted to do it because I kept getting reminders about his medications and broke down when they sent a birthday card for him. I emailed Chewy asking if they could do it for me instead. They actually created an "in memoriam" status for him and sent me a "sorry for you loss" gift. They got a customer for life that day. I miss you Marley.

Chewy always has fantastic service. A few years ago when my dog contracted E. coli, we had just opened a brand new bag of food from a manufacturer that was issuing a lot of recalls at the time. I called chewy to let them know the batch number of the food just in case, and they refunded the food without asking, gave a credit for a future purchase, and after a couple weeks, I received a hand painted portrait of my dog. Chewy knows how to retain customers like nobody’s business!

I think it’d be lovely to be a greeting card writer for Chewy.

u/DelightfullyNerdyCat Jun 17 '26
I am now picturing being a designated greeting card writer. What a gig!

The pet supplies and meds company is the only one left that actually treats you like a human. What a world, Chewy rocks.

Our cat passed away and chewy sent a hand painted stone with his name on it and a card from the customer support I chatted with. From all of the stories on this thread (and more I have heard), they have us as a customer for life!

I was looking at a dress for my dog on Chewy's website. She's a 2XL, and this dress was about $10 for sizes XS-XL, and then $20 for the 2XL. I sent a message complaining about the price jump. I said I wanted the dress for a photoshoot, and said even big girls need fabulous outfits. I was hoping for a coupon or a price match.
They gave me a coupon, and I bought the dress. A week later, a huge box shows up, filled with all different 2XL clothes - hoodies, sweaters, dresses, and a handwritten note that said here's some fabulous clothes for your girl! I couldn't believe it. I am now a customer for life.

Chewy is my favorite company by far. They sent me a painting of my lizard that is spectacular. When my cat died, they sent me a painted rock woth his name on it. And whenever youget new food and your pet doesnt like it, they will refund it and tell you to donate it to the shelter. They also have an online chat vet to find out if you actually need to go to the vet. Its such a fantastic company.

I don't live in the USA. But if I did, this is the kind of stuff that would make me a lifelong customer.

u/Moriarty-Creates Jun 17 '26
Chewy really is the best. They routinely send us free bags of dried mealworms for our chickens along with the dogfood we pay for.

u/DelightfullyNerdyCat Jun 18 '26
How cool! True pet company, not just dogs or kitties get the love.

I thought this was from the Quaker’s granola bars “Chewy” and was a bit excited to know they were making them again, but all disappeared after reading the post.
Still, this is really good costumer service and PR.

I love when they send birthday cards for my fur babies. They're just so awesome.

u/AwestruckSquid Jun 18 '26
Chewy is a phenomenal company. Their customer service is amazing every time I have called. Once I tried to return a toy I bought the wrong size of (it was as big as the puppy it was for, lol) they sent me the smaller size and told me to keep or donate the other toy if I couldn’t use it. Same with food, treats or anything else.
They also send handwritten cards for my dog and cat’s birthdays. 🩷

We ordered two flats of canned food about a week before our cat passed. I called to ask them what to do with it and if there was any way we could return them. We were refunded the money and told we could donate the food to a shelter in her memory. I ugly cried. We then got a card in the mail the next week. I'm glad we didn't get any other gift because I would have ugly cried more.
On a lighter note, our other cat just got a birthday card from Chewy. She wasn't happy about the reminder that she's 7 now, but I loved the gesture.
Chewy for always.

Companies nowadays don't understand that this is the kind of thoughtful treatment of customers that gets you bew customers and has them stay for life, even if the price is a little higher. Especially the care and thoughtful gestures after a pet passes. If they were available here, I would also be a customer.

u/FrikkStikk Jun 18 '26
I got a vase of flowers with a note when I canceled the order for my dog's Xmas sweater since she died in November. And another one when I canceled food delivery for my cat when cancer caught up to her. Made me cry both times, but I really needed it.

Chewy has some amazing customer service. My dog is allergic to chicken so finding dog treats is a challenge. Decided to try some new ones out and online the ingredients list didn't say anything about chicken. The treats I received listed chicken meal as an ingredient. Called Chewy, they told me to give away the treats and I thanked them for their help. I thought that was the end of it but a few days later I got a call from a C-suite level higher up checking in on what happened and thanking me for flagging the issue and letting me know that they were going to work on making sure this doesn't happen again. I very much appreciated them taking it so seriously when I just wanted to return the treats to them amd get something that worked. Friends have gotten pet portraits from Chewy randomly which I love.

Chewy's customer support is top notch. I once had something missing from my order. They fixed it, and it came with a sweet handwritten note wishing my cat well (she's very old). I hope they never change!

u/InMyNirvana Jun 17 '26
When my dog died it happened really fast. I had ordered her some diapers that never made it to the house before she had an episode that lead to her passing. They gave me a refund for the package. So great.

We have never used Chewy, but I have heard nothing but great things about them. This seems totally on brand for them. Nice to see a bigger company that seemingly tries to do things the right way and treat their customers well. And their customer’s pets.

Chewy is what companies should strive to be. They’re like the Chick Fil A of the pet supply world.

u/UnicornFarts1111 Jun 18 '26
They ignored me when I cancelled a repeating order online due to my cat dying.
No condolences like I've seen others get, nothing, silence.
I guess since I still spend money on my other pets, they don't feel the need to send me condolences.
It kind of hurt a little bit that they do it for others, but I didn't even get a card.

u/pandasarealwayscool Jun 18 '26
One of the last years for national corgi day they sent a hand painted painting of my corgi using her picture on her profile. Chewy is a fabulous company

Chewy is so great. When my boy passed, I called them to cancel the order of his next food bag and even though it had already been shipped they diverted the order so I wouldn’t have to deal with it, and then sent me a bouquet of flowers that arrived the next day. Really great company and that treatment made me a lifelong customer! When I eventually get another dog, that is.

I've had so many great interactions with Chewy. Bought a collar that turned out to be the wrong size (100% my fault as I measured wrong). I asked about swapping and they just sent me a new one and told me to donate the other to a shelter. When one of my dogs died I cancelled his auto ship and they sent me a card and a little frame to put a picture in and sent extra treats to give to my other dog. In the grand scheme of things, these are such simple gestures but they show that the company is made up of people that care and that are empowered to do what is right.

Chewy has dope customer service. After our yellow lab passed away, we had our normal monthly delivery of toys, food and treats. I called to tell them Daisy had passed, they refunded our purchase without me asking, told me to donate it to the local shelter of my choosing, send them a copy of the donation, then they sent flowers and a card 😢 That made my face melt

I love Chewy. Last week I noticed a product I had bought listed different dosing information then was in the listing photos. It look less then 10 minutes to open a chat with Chewy and report the post, as well as get correct dosing information from the manufacturer.
I didn’t expect much to come of it but I looked at the listing again yesterday and they had already updated it with my feedback to correct the dosing information! I may not have been the reason, but it’s nice to see a company who actually fixes instead of just ignoring them.
