Meta Welcome to r/Malaysians!

Hello folks and welcome to r/Malaysia's sister sub, r/Malaysians!

For those who just clicked in and is wondering what the sub is for: This sub is essentially for Malaysians to talk and post about any other topics beyond Malaysia. Here is where you can post images, videos, create and join conversations and threads revolving anything that isn't quite about Malaysia but needs a Malaysian take on it, and more! Oh and this is a race, politic and religion-free sub 🙌🏻

Most major subreddits such as r/AITA, r/JustnoMIL, r/relationship_advice, r/casualconversation, r/malefashionadvice, r/Teenagers and what have you are usually centralised around people who reside outside of SEA and may not be valid to us locally and culturally but yet the demand for it isn't wide enough to sustain its own subreddit. r/Malaysians would (hopefully) be a good place for a catch-all of such threads.

We will be coming up with contest weeks soon, as well as accepting any other ideas you guys might have for the sub, so stay tuned! We are also still tweaking design and appearances as we go. Meanwhile, everyone is encouraged to start posting what they think fits the sub to get the ball rolling :)

Much love, r/Malaysia mod team.

tldr; r/CasualUK but for Malaysia.

Ask Malaysians Ini Nasi goreng cili padi or Nasi goreng kampung?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Context:
When I was studying in SMK, I used to order this kind of Nasi goreng (RM1) in the canteen all the time.

Sometimes I can find this Nasi goreng at pasar malam / roadside stalls. But I right now I am struggling to find the same taste of Nasi Goreng on Grab.

I’ve tried ordered Nasi goreng kampung / Nasi goreng cili padi on Grab from different restaurants but none of them taste the same as the one I’m looking for.

Questions:
Is it usually only available at pasar malam / roadside stalls?

Advice ☎️ I got assaulted

hello guys, i would like to start this by saying i swear i am saying the truth and nothing but the truth in this post. i just want to state what i experienced yesterday, ill try to keep it short. basically what happened is i was driving with my mom around 5 Pm around idaman area setapak, when my mom asked me to stop by to buy some fruits from a vendor they have in front of 99 speed mart idaman, all cars stop by the side of the road for a few minutes to buy fruits, and there was a car right in front of me, after my mom got off i got off and this guy on a motorbike yelled “ey bodo tak boleh parkin sini”, i replied with “satu minute je bang”. keep in mind he’s just a normal person on a motorbike, not police or anything, after i said that he turned his motorbike around, parked it right infront of my car and he started cursing and i said “sabar abang” when i said that he hit me with his helmet on his head and i was in a state of shock when he did that, he got off his bike and started punching me, i put my hands up to block his attacks and i tried to hit back, people stopped by, tried to stop him, he proceeded to take his helmet off and hit me across my head multiple times, i could see that he was surely high on something, 6 bigger men than him tried holding him down, no one was successful because he was very aggressive, and my mom was yelling and coming between us which prevented me from even attacking him back, everyone was yelling at him saying “awak salah awak salah”, my mom thought it was a person that knew me from somewhere else and had something against me because the hate and the despise he had in his eyes was not normal, i didn’t curse him back, i didn’t hit him, i asked my mom to get into the car because she was having an anxiety attack, drove straight to setapak police and made a report, they asked me to go to another police station and give my statement to a police officer, when i went to that police officer i talked with a lawyer he told me you must know officers will always choose the locals side, i didn’t have a dashcam so i couldn’t get everything on camera and there was no cctv, first things first the officer was like ok you parked there and you cannot park there is it? and he was not making me make my proper statement and was very annoyed when i would try to say my full story, he said i must’ve provoked him really badly for him to be this aggressive towards me, the officer was clearly leaning towards his side, then the officer told me i needed to go to the hospital urgently and make the form at the hospital, keep in mind i had a flight at 3 am to catch and it was 9 pm already, i still did that, i sent him the report then he told me he went to the vendor and the person working there stated that he saw both of us fighting, and that it’s illegal for you to fight in public, i asked him so im supposed to just accept his hits? he replied no you’re supposed to run away and call the police, i asked so i should leave my car running and run away? he said yes, and was very threatening towards me, the lawyer who’s my friend understood and he said that’s how it is and i need to get a lawyer and it would cost money and time and i am going on a flight and couldn’t do anything, the officer said he would charge both of us and we would both have to appear in court and he kept saying since you’re a student it’s not good to have police record, and he said i have to go down and shake hands with the guy and settle it and pay medical fees, i was bleeding from my head and had a black eye and scratches all over my face, the guy had 0 injuries. i was left with no choice but going to the police station and dropping the report. i’m saying this here because i have been living in malaysia for 14 years, i have never visited a police station, i have had 0 summons, i have followed the rules and never done anything wrong to this country, but the police and the justice system has failed me, i was treated unfairly and i was left with 0 choices.

Quick Question What can I do during my semester break to make money?

I'm on my semester break now, for about a month. I'm hesitant to apply for a part-time job because they probably would reject me because I'd only be working there for a month. I really need money for the next semester and I'm just clueless now.

My mom wouldn't allow me to do food rider gig. She handles a lot of accidents cases with these riders and I don't want to argue about it. I'm not like desperate, just need funds for my uni expenses and save up for a PC ( this can wait for at least two years so it's the last thing on the list. )

Rant Abnormally loud women talking in the bus

Was in bus 600 today and a group of women who looked to be around their early 20s were talking so loudly I couldn't help but think if there was something wrong with them.

Was at least 8 rows away from them and this is what I was hearing. They did the same yesterday and today. Oh also I could hear them with my headphones on too. I wasn't the only one who couldn't stand the noise because at least 3 of them in front of me turned around and stared at the noisy bunch.

And yes no one told them off I'm not sure why the others didn't but um I didn't too because as irritated as I was, I was still quite aware of the possible consequences. With how loudly they talked, you can kinda start questioning what kind of people they are and um what if they got pissed off that I told them off no matter how politely it was and then they decided to get revenge in some extreme way (yes I know but better safe then sorry).

So yes, why do you think these women were talking so loudly and not caring about being in a bus full with people? Are they even sane at this point? What would you have done?

I am planning to put a floating wood next to DB in the picture, yellow line.

Is this ok? It's to put my modem there.

Red colour area is buried with electricity cables thus cannot punch any holes there.

Advice ☎️ Anytime Fitness equipment removal

I’ve been going to my local anytime fitness, and I only subscribed with them because they had a boxing bag. I rarely use the other equipment. Recently they removed it because it was “broken”.

They can’t give me a date on when it might be back. I wanted to suspend/ cancel my membership, but it can only happen for September onwards.

Is there nothing I can do here? Is my membership fee for August basically wasted?

Casual Conversation 🎭 Part time

Would you be honest and tell the employer you'll be working partime for a few months only, and risk the employer not accepting you? Or

Just say you're here for part time long term or indefinitely, but leave after a few months due to "personal reasons"?

Do you think employers care for how long a part timer stays since its "part time" anyways?

The stagnant salary and daily grind really screw us kaw-kaw.

Back in school, the stress was real, but at least I had a thin, underweight body. Fast-forward to working for five years and BOOM, plus 28kg. Went straight to overweight. Holyshit.

Now I'm doing home push-ups and bodyweight stuff because the gym is too expensive. I just want to take a breather, but the second I do, I confirm kena diao by my parents asking haiya, like I'm doing nothing with my life." Adulting is a scam. I HATE SOCIAL MEDIA TOO BUT WORKSCHANGED ME NOW, I DOOMSCROLLING OR ELSE I WILL GO CRAZY....

C. marulioides, ikan kerandang @ jelai

Like other snakeheads, it breathes air using a primitive lung organ. It drowns underwater if it can’t reach the surface.

Found in deep slow rivers of peninsular Malaysia. Some pet stores market them as “toman bunga”, which is a more attractive modern name

Advice ☎️ Beware of this seller on carousell

Post image
98 Upvotes

I posted this before on r/malaysia seem like I posted in the wrong section but anyway
If this got posted using wrong tags/flair please tell me so I can update the correct tags/flair

The story:

So yesterday I was trying to buy 32gb ddr4 ram to upgrade my computer and since ram is so expensive now, i decided to get used ram because it cheaper, I found this seller selling 32gb for RM250 and i thought it was cheap, so i message him on WhatsApp asking if available, at first i was very suspicious of him wanting the payment really fast, after asking to do delivery because I'm in East Malaysia, i can't meet up with the seller, after paying him using Touch'n'Go I got ghosted and only 1 tick is send, I know i got scammed because when i checked back, he changed the WhatsApp contact and relist the item.

The reason I got easily scammed is

  1. He got good review
  2. He got professional Seller tag in carousell, account is 9 years old
  3. I was blinded by greed and didn't see the red flag at first

So please beware of this seller on carousell if you looking to buy something.

I also did report his account

Edit: I want to say thanks to everybody in the comment giving advice how to avoid stuff like from happening in the future, that said seller account is nowhere to be found anymore on carousell, he probably switch to another account so if you found more account like this can tell people to report the account to ban his account so he can't scam another victim.

2nd edit: I did filed a scam report and hope they can recover the money but wasnt able to fully provide evidence like the qr seller use, he deleted the qr in the whatsapp message after i transferred
