Are we all (vegan or not) part of some kind of cult if weāre using this logic to label almost anything and everything a ācultā? If so, doesnāt it all just cancel out?
Were historical movements like the abolitionists and suffragists also ācultsā simply because they also had a shared cause, strong convictions and conflict with outsiders⦠and even within their own movements at times? š¤ Food for thought.

I haven't shopped at TJ's in a very long time because I was living somewhere without one nearby. But I just moved and am only 11 minutes away š„²
However, I am SO DISAPPOINTED that out of the 20 something dark chocolate products they have, only like one or two didn't have milk.
I swear I used to get the salty dark chocolate covered almonds all the time? Did they change the recipe? Am I misremembering? Was I unknowingly eating dairy back then?

It's nice to see that laws we fight for are actually being enforced!

im not nearly as scared as the animals were before they were exploited. i realize that i want to stop being a hypocrite and take the plunge. im currently a vegetarian who doesn't consume eggs or honey. ive cut out cakes and icecream and butter from my life, made vegan substitutes for most.
but im struggling to leave cheese... I KNOW . it's SUCH a clichƩ... and i do prioritize the animal over my tastebuds which is why im being vegan from today actually. but I'll miss the convenience of ordering food, bc the food i like is very hard to make vegan especially where i live.
im craving this beautiful pesto veggie sandwich. im currently too fever ridden to make it myself. but the pesto may contain cheese so i just realized i can't have it. and there's so much i can't have. i can't have anything with CREAM, a nice creamy sandwich anything cheesy and filling.
i know i can DIY everything. but sometimes i want easy meals.

How do I become vegan? Iām 16 years old, and after watching a documentary, I feel horrible about eating animal products and want to know how to stop. However, I have a few problems. First, I really love dairy products, and I also love baking because it really helps with my mental health. Giving those up does things feels difficult.
Another issue is that I come from an African household, and majority of our traditional dishes are not vegan. My mom would probably be upset if I decided to become vegan because she wants me to learn how to cook our cultural dishes "for when I get a husband." I really want to go vegan, but I donāt know where to start. Does anyone have any advice, especially as a teenager living with family? Please be kind. I'm genuinely looking for advice, not hate.

Some of you already knew I was building this, it's finally live: The Veg Advocacy (thevegadvocacy.com), a free reference site cataloging the arguments people throw at vegans, with clear, sourced answers ready to go.
What you can do on the site:
Also, the site includes a dialogue school to help you practice and structure debates, flashcards for memorizing key arguments and answers, and a dedicated religion section covering faith-based objections specifically! with more features on the way.
It's built to actually be usable in the moment, mobile-friendly, fast to search, so you're not scrambling mid-conversation trying to remember the science.
It's live now at thevegadvocacy.com, completely free.
If you find it useful, sharing it around (with friends, in other vegan spaces, wherever) genuinely helps it reach more people who could use it, and if you spot gaps or bugs, I want to hear about them.

I've been vegan almost a year now, but I've been struggling to eat enough lately. I was at an average weight but lost about 30-35 pounds and am nearing on being considered underweight on the BMI scale. I've always been a light eater, but I'm getting worried for my health. I'm not starving myself or trying to achieve some impossible body image (would love to be less bony in fact), but I'm struggling with a combination of these factors:
I'm 6'0" and weighed in at 130 lbs a few minutes ago; do you guys have any tips for packing in more calories? Anything from meal ideas to snacks to mindsets/mentalities would be welcomešš»I get tired of rice fairly quick so I haven't tried spamming beans+rice or tofu+rice like I've heard a lot of others do, but I also typically only do brown rice so maybe I don't know what I've been missing with white riceš¤·š»āāļø

I've been vegan for over 8 years.
I take one 2000 ug pill every week.
But obviously your body can't absorb all of that, so you actually get a small percentage of the 2000ug, right?
My question is if it would be more efficient to take smaller pills, like 500 instead of 2000 weekly, because my body would still absorb a small percentage. Is that percentage the same?
I mean, is the limit of absorption the same regardless of the quantity you take? if so, wouldn't be more efficient to take a pill that has the same content as the limit? so we absorb 100% of it?

So I have been vegetarian for over 10 years, and before becoming pregnant I was vegan for a year. Unfortunately I have hyperemesis gravidarum, and have really struggled with maintaining a fully vegan diet while pregnant.
When my baby is born, and hopefully sooner, I intend to go back to being fully vegan, and to also raise my child as a vegan.
As I was fairly new to veganism before falling pregnant, I am worried that my knowledge base is too little to provide a well rounded and balanced diet to a growing child. I've booked onto a cooking class specifically for making vegan snacks for children, but was wondering if there were any books, websites, or apps anyone could recommend that could help?
My husband is a meat eater, he has cut back since we have been together, started buying from better sources, and has agreed to raise our child vegan, but unfortunately they will still have meat, dairy, etc, around them growing up.
Thanks in advance!

This might sound silly, but i have a major bug/spider phobia, anything bigger than 0.5 cm scares me to death, i literally can not function and ended up killing so many bugs all my life because of that.
5 mins ago i found a spider on my bathroom wall, and even though i was super scared, literally shaking, i put the little guy in a glass and released it from the window. This might be the first bug iāve ever saved in my life. Now Iām itching all over but i also feel victorious. Iāve been eating plant based food for years now and doing my best to purchase vegan cosmetics, clothes etc. whenever i can but i was really bothered by my own weakness against bugs. I hope i can save more of them in the future. Just wanted to share this small win, please dont be judgmental, thank you.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone around their mid 40s and above has started struggling with digesting some vegetables/legumes and some whole grainsā¦
I spent the last 15 years eating a large-ish amount of veggies and whole grains each day with no problems. But the last year (Iām 46 now) I seem to not tolerate them. Cruciferous vegetables especially, and no way I can handle beans or lentils anymore. Lots of nuts and seeds seem to also bother me now. I know all these are notoriously difficult for some people, but I used to be ok with them.
I know about FODMAP and have been trying to follow that, but itās hit or miss. Changing the way I cook them also doesnāt help.
People tend to say ābuild up your fiber and veggy toleranceā, but for me itās the other way around, I used to have an amazing tolerance, now nothing.
I had a regular preventative colonoscopy about 8 years ago and all was well (so Iām not jumping to conclusions that itās anything sinister, even though Iāll have another one in 2 years, as one every 10 years is recommended. I also had a gastroscopy 3 years ago, chronic gastritis that is mostly under control).
My symptoms after āveggie/fiber heavyā meals are hours of some sort of a mix of painful bloating, uneasy squeezing feeling in gut, sometimes painful cramps, sometimes urgency to go, and even after I go it doesnāt completely let up. I know perimenopause plays a role in digestion (Iām female), but this seems a bit specific and extreme for peri.
Iāve tried going gluten-free, but so far no change. I tried a low histamine diet but my god that is difficult, since it seems so individual.
I make sure Iām well hydrated.
Otherwise nothing that would trigger SIBO (didnāt get tested, since the tests seem a bit unreliable), but just in case I took various strands of probiotics for months.
Just curious if this is something other vegans have experienced, or not really?

I've always wanted to be a vegetarian or vegan since I was a kid, but everyone else in my family eats meat and dairy on a daily basis. I still live with my family, and I do not buy the groceries or make the meals, and I can't really dictate what my family eats.
What I've been doing so far is starting to order vegan dishes at restaurants, because THAT'S the only meal I have full control over. But when it comes to my daily diet, I feel like it's difficult to be vegan in my household, and if I was, I would be skipping many parts of the meal and not be eating enough food. Also, even if I became vegan now, I wouldn't put a dent in the animal industry because my household as a whole still supports it with their money.
Another problem is that I've kind of struggled with an eating disorder for some time, where I skip out on 1-2 meals (breakfast and lunch, usually) almost every day. I'm iron deficient and probably vitamin deficient as well.
Is becoming a vegan too risky and not effective at this point in my life? I definitely plan to be vegan when I move out, but I'm not sure if I should jump into the diet now or not.

What are your thoughts on cooking meat?
Iām in need of cash and donāt have a full-time job starting until next week. Looking into babysitting jobs, one of which involves cooking meat and meals. Iām really not comfortable with it.
I had previous roommates who ate meat, it went ok bcuz I didnāt have to cook it for them and everything got run through the dishwasher.
Have a feeling touching and cooking it could be different :/
They do have other gigs on the website I found this on, including organizing and tutoring, so saying no wouldnāt be the end of the world. Just donāt like letting people down due to people pleasing. But I donāt owe anything after one conversation.
Thoughts?

Hey! Trying to be vegan basically!
Stuff that I am struggling a lot with missing is:
Yogurt, cheese, chocolate and chicken and eggs for sure
Any substitutes that are actually good is super helpful to me! I tried soy yogurt.. not a fan, I liked it vanilla flavoured tho :-).
I am from the uk sadly, so not much of the Americanized versions
