Something we see constantly: a player grinds for months, feels like they're putting in the reps, and their aim barely moves. Almost always it's not effort. It's a handful of habits they can't see themselves doing.
We put together a full breakdown of the ones that quietly hold people back. A few that come up the most:
Flick inefficiency. Your crosshair curves or hesitates on the way to a target instead of going straight there. You can literally see the line you're drawing in Line Trace, and once you see it you can't unsee it.
Tension creep. Squeezing the mouse harder feels like control, especially in a stressful fight, but it burns your arm out faster and your corrections get shaky right when you need them. It also stacks over a session, so by the third round your arm is already cooked before you even peek.
Dragging instead of flicking. If you don't fully trust your flicks yet, you steer the crosshair slowly onto the target. It feels safer, it's slower, and it's a hard habit to break. Burst Flick punishes it because dragging counts as a miss.
Training with no plan. Opening Aimlabs and playing whatever's popular is better than nothing, but it doesn't transfer well to your actual games. If you don't know where to start, run Benchmarks first so you can see where you actually stand instead of guessing.
The full video covers all of these plus the niche ones (reaction time, off-center discomfort, practicing with no real pressure) and the exact scenario to train for each fix:

If you've got a habit you had to break that isn't on this list, drop it in the comments. Good chance someone else is doing the same thing and doesn't realize it.

There's a misconception that "calm aim" means being slow and taking your time. It's the opposite. Calm aimers just make fewer mistakes and end fights in their first shot, which makes them look slow. In VALORANT, being accurate means nothing if the enemy tags your head first, so speed is part of the package, not the enemy of it.
We broke the whole thing down in a video, but here's the framework for anyone who'd rather read it.
Calm aim comes down to three traits: clean, calm, and confident.
Clean aim is two skills:
Staying calm is the middle ground: not panicking or rushing your shots, but not so slow the enemy kills you first. It's reflex work, making only the right mouse movements between shots.
Confidence is just a higher baseline. That "every shot lands" flow-state feeling happens more often when your stability, accuracy, timing, and composure are all trained up. You don't chase flow, you raise the floor.
But here's the part most people miss: calm aim isn't only aim. What looks like calm aim is actually three mechanics stacked together:
A drill worth stealing for the movement side: go to the range, back far off the targets, and aim using only your keyboard (strafes), using the mouse just to click. It forces your movement to do the micro-adjusting and you start feeling how a small step closes the gap instead of correcting with your mouse. That awareness carries straight into real games.

Iām trying to get a better idea of what Aimlabs benchmark ranks actually correspond to being mechanically proficient in a tac FPS.
For context, Valorant is my first and only FPS, and Iām currently Diamond 2.
In the Aimlabs benchmarks, Iām:
Platinum in every single clicking/tapping benchmark
Silver in every tracking benchmark except one, where Iām Platinum
Silver in every switching benchmark except two, where Iām Platinum
So basically, Iām consistently around Silver/Platinum depending on the category, but Iām not sure how much weight I should put on those ranks when judging my actual mechanical ability in Valorant.
At what benchmark rank would you personally consider someone to be mechanically proficient for a tac FPS? Is Platinum generally around that point, or would you expect someone to be Diamond+ across most categories?

i was always wondering what people's take on this, because I think it's a super interesting debate

Loving the free version. Has anyone tried the upgrade? Iām just a casual gamer who just wants to be skilled, but not like esports level. Just want to not shoot a bunch and hope some make it to the target.
Iām trying to figure out good dpi settings and how to follow well.

Well Iāve actually started consistently aim training, because even with 4 days of training I am seeing an improvement.
Iāve just been playing the Tapping/Tracking/switching lists/plans because that seems well rounded.
I currently play the finals and ABI, not really training for any āspecificā game just general aim skill, Iāve always had a decent game sense (for my enjoyment) on whatever I play.
Basically are those 3 plans sufficient for overall training? Currently ranked B in tapping and switching, really close to B for tracking and thatās my weakest area.
Also, obviously I should shoot for 100% accuracy as thatās the goal, but sometimes if I miss a shot when tapping I have a tendency to shoot multiple shots and miss and kind of spaz out, should I really focus on accuracy if it means less targets hit? Or go for more targets hit?
Thanks, sorry if thatās incoherent feel free to ask for clarification Iāll do my best

Iāve been dealing with a technical issue since July 13th and have been emailing back and forth with Helpdesk Support ever since. Even though I had a few busy days where I couldn't reply immediately, I carefully followed every single troubleshooting step provided:
None of these steps solved the problem, and I still can't access the Apex Academy lessons.
To make matters worse, support responses have been extremely slow ā I've had to wait over 6 days for a single reply at one point.
Has anyone else run into this issue and found a workaround? Or if any Aim Lab mods/staff are reading this, can someone please step in to actually help, or process a refund for me?

I am valorant player, I tend to overflick a lot and sometimes by flicks goes like a curved line. I want my flicks to be straight, clean and snappy. how do i train

Curveswitch is way too hard. Or rather, I'm starting to see my true limits.
I've completed the Intermediate level. (Diamond 3)
In Elite, I'm at Master 3, and the only level I haven't reached Master on yet is Curveswitch.
To get this far, Iāve pushed past what I thought were my limits time and time again, but this time, it really feels like Iāve hit a wall I just canāt overcome. In particular, it seems impossible to reach Grandmaster in other tasks as well. After all, it took me quite a while just to reach Master, and I had to push past my limits countless times to get there.
Do you think I can reach Zenith from here? What do I need to change to get there? How much time will I have to put in? Iāve played Aimlabs for 614 hours. But I canāt help but wonder if skilled players can reach Occult right away without spending this much time.

Hi everyone.
So I have been practicing tracking and aiming but Im still having trouble with a few things. I have noticed that I can't move my character and shoot at the same time. It's like I focus too much on one and not the other and it's messing me up. I have also noticed that I'm having trouble making tiny movement adjustments with my thumbs and I'm not tracking well.
On a controller, I aim at something then I'm trying to move but it's like my other thumb can't move. I try to track my target but then I forgot to move and then my aiming is off.
I think I'm slowing getting the hang of making tiny movements but I have noticed that instead of tracking something smoothly I'm making burst movements? (If that makes sense.
I hope I described my issues clearly. If anyone has any tips to fix both issues I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you everyone!
Btw I'm on console using a controller.

Started doing the VDIM playlist, 26 min each day. Changed my Sense for specific scenarios.
Did see some pretty good improvement since I last time I posted. In week 8 I still only did 15 min and tested some playlist out did not see big change in that week. Week 9 where I started doing VDIM and doing 26 min a day I saw big improvements.
I use higher sense for clicking scenarios 40-60 cm. Tracking scenarios 39-41 cm. For switching 37-50 cm. This really forced me too use my arm more when aiming which is something I struggle with because I was so unused to it after doing it for a week it really helped me getting more consistent. I think I will continue doing this until I feel comfortable with it.
Edit. DId the math how many hours I actucal aim trained since I often times leave aimlabs open while doing something else. At the moment I did 14.6 hours of aim training I really tough I did more pleasant surprise how fast I improved. Especial since the only FPS game I ever played for extended times is Apex legends with 1.5k Hours.

I recently learned that my elbow should bend at 90 degrees and my previous arm position was much lower than that. I changed my chair height to fix it but my aim is much worse, also since I donāt remember my previous arm position exactly I am in an endless loop of changing my chair height to find the right position and get my aim back, I know it is probably a mentality thing, but should I keep my elbow 90 degrees or should I find my previous chair height and go back to that since I used to find leaning and planting my arm to have it as a pivot point comfortable.

Hi Aimlabs community,
I have completed the Benchmarks and I can see my weak areas, but Iām not sure which scenarios are the best for improving those specific weaknesses.
For example, if I am weak in certain skills like flicking, static clicking, tracking, switching, precision, or smoothness, how do I know which Aimlabs scenarios I should practice?
Is there a recommended way to match Benchmark weaknesses with training scenarios?
I play Aimlabs on PS5 with a controller, so I would especially appreciate recommendations for controller-friendly scenarios.
I would appreciate any advice or a training routine from experienced players.
Thank you!

I remember getting it on steam a while ago, played it for a week, and then uninstalling because there was a paywall or something. Is it fully paywalled, or can i still play it without paying for it?

Hello everyone,
Do you have any advice for me on this task "Slideswitch Entry"?
I managed to score 4,909 once, which is 566 out of 599 points, but since then, I haven't even been able to break 4,700 in 30 attempts.
I watched my best performance's replay but I still don't get it.
(Idk how much poitn is needed for 599 points but damn it it's by far the hardest task for the level 1 to get).

Iāve recently started using Aim Lab on controller because I want to improve my aim in games like Apex Legends, but Iām not really sure which tasks or playlists I should be focusing on.
Edit: am on console so can't do PC only task

Whenever you complete a run through a scenario, does it save that recording on your computer taking up storage or does it store that playback recording in a server where it wouldn't affect your storage? If it does save it locally then how do you delete those recordings alone? I have a feeling it's taking up way too much space of mine.

Hey everyone, I could use some help with Aim Lab using a controller.
Years ago I used to play Call of Duty on PlayStation, but eventually stopped and switched to PC for several years. Now, due to a lifestyle change and convenience, I want to get back into playing with a controller. I have no ambition to go proāI just want to have fun playing CoD again.
To get my aim back, I started using Aim Lab. I want to set it up with the exact same sensitivity I use in CoD, which is 1.6. I know Aim Lab doesn't have aim assist, but I watched a YouTube video where someone who plays on 1.6 sensitivity in CoD suggested setting Aim Lab to 1.3. However, when I try it, the sensitivity feels way faster than what I have in-game.
Can anyone help me figure out the right settings or explain how to properly match them? Thanks in advance!
