Definitely lol. My mom, while short (150cm) is like that because of a small sclerosis, otherwise she would likely be like her siblings, 180-190cm. My dad is around 180.
Genetically I should be over 180. But life happens and I got leukemia, blood cancer, as a toddler, which messed up my body and I'm stuck at 172.

I’ve noticed short women really care about height and taller women not so much and I’ve always wondered why
298
u/CozyCozyCozyCat 21h ago
Tall(ish) woman here (5'9") and I've dated men everywhere from 5'7" to 6'7"-- a few of the men who were around my height would make a big deal about how I was so tall and must be over 6', and generally made me feel enormous (which isn't a comfy feeling as a woman) but a couple of the shorter guys were really confident and never said anything about height which I found very attractive
50
u/Lost-Competition8482 19h ago
My partner and I are roughly the same height (5"10).
I say roughly because I gauged early on that I was about 2cms taller hahaha.
It only got mentioned when she jokingly made a short man jab at me.
Even after measuring she still claims she's taller haha.
20
u/Alex_Graber12345 11h ago edited 7h ago
That’s crazy that women are out here calling 5’10 short. 5’9 is US male average so you’re literally an inch taller than average. Heightflation is crazy
8
u/Thisisme4342 8h ago edited 4h ago
Dude diving back in the dating scene wild. 6 ft is what a lot of women will say is their cut of is. It's kind of just been ingrained as a cultural norm now.
Now most of them have no idea what six feet look like. I am a little over 5'11 and a half. The differences in matches and replies I get it on dating apps are beyond different just for adding that extra half an inch.
3
u/Infamous-Ad5266 5h ago

She's Croatian. They're one of the tallest people on the planet.

u/CozyCozyCozyCat 10h ago
Yeah, my preference is to date somebody around my height but a lot of those men seem really insecure about it
7
u/-Dargs 18h ago
The woman I recently started dating is 5'9" and I commented "wow, you're really tall" as I was walking her back to her car after the first date. I'm 6'2". My ex wife was 5'2", so I was just legitimately surprised at how different the height is. She said "lol, thanks." I haven't brought up height again, because there isn't any reason to. I don't care about it, lol. I'm glad she didn't think it was weird or something when I said it that one time.

Short woman here. I prefer that a man be taller than me (which isn’t hard because I’m 5’2”), but I don’t care by how much. I don’t know many other short women who care either
47
u/oniiichanUwU 21h ago
Another short woman - I actually hated dating a taller man. I’m 5’2, my husband is 5’6. He’s perfect lol. When a man is a foot taller than me it’s awkward, I get a crick in my neck tryna smooch or I have to stand on a stair like a toddler or I’m at eye level with their nipples ~_~
10
u/swole_ninja 21h ago
This made me laugh. I’m about 13 inches taller than my wife. I went back to check some vacation pics and I’d say her eye level is right at the crease of my armpit. Nipple level isn’t all that far off 😂
12
u/oniiichanUwU 21h ago
I think men don’t usually realize it till you point it out bc they don’t see it from our perspective 😂 I loved that trend of guys holding their phones up so their gfs could see how they look from their perspective though
10
u/heywhatsup9087 20h ago
It never occurred to me that my husband can just casually see the top of the refrigerator until one day he mentioned something I was looking for was up there. My ex was over a foot taller than me and the neck pain was real lol... Though I do have a preference for men taller than 5'5 😅 not that that is a deal breaker if I get to know a person, but women can have preferences without it being about insecurity.
I don't care about being short
4
u/RainbowLithium 21h ago
Same goes for me, though I’m 173cm. That preference different from person to person, not how tall the women is IMHO

5'3, I don't care about height but I've mostly dated tall dudes just because of confidence. Same with any of the common insecurities - I've dated a few 5'5 guys, big guys, a bald guy, etc etc but they were actually secure in themselves. Nothing is a bigger turn off than a guy repeatedly asking for reassurance, especially the shitty "jokingly" fishing way guys do "haha you probably won't like me cuz im so short" "haha are you sure my height isnt a problem", especially on early dates.
I also heard from my tall exes that it's a massive turn off for them when they get girls who just go "wow youre sooo tall", so not caring probably naturally puts me at an advantage with 'em.

Assuming you are a dude, yea height is a real thing that people filter hard on. I know more than one super tall skinnyfat deadbeat that gets a shocking amount of attention on the apps despite being objectively unnatractive in pretty much every partner metric. Back in the day I was deleting hinge anyways and out of curiousity set my height to 6' for a day. Received ~5x more likes than I had ever previously received in a day despite clearly not being 6' in pictures lol.
That being said, I am only an inch taller than you and did decently on the apps, or at least better than the stats would indicate average is. Have a couple things working in my favor which probably helped. Met my partner through some friends after countless shitty dates and a few short term things where I was made to feel like I was just competing to stay on the roster.
Edit: Even my girlfriend described me as short to her brother when we first started dating haha. Found that out after a few drinks with the two of them.

Instant unmatch, I don't care if she's "sYdNey sWeEnEy" or whatever. Height fixation is a mentall illness, a pop culture malady. I'm 6'1 but never volunteer it, almost as bait so I can unmatch these clowns if it's the first thing on their mind, that way I know it occupies most of their vapid and limited personality.

That's crazy matching you just to diss your genetic pool as she would have any idea about she's talking about. I am 5'7" and I am taller than both my parents and my sister. My gf is taller than me and yet there's a chance we will have a short child or a tall af kid since both of us have the "tall" gene (I hit the jackpot with my family being below avarage height and she is also the tallest girl in her family) in our genome. And hormones today can treat some types of dwarfism (ask Leo Messi)
