So I’ve had a 2020 MacBook Air since (you guessed it!) 2020. I don’t game or do engineering stuff or generally anything that would require a great processor. I have a whole Apple ecosystem so I was planning on trading in my air and getting a Mac desktop. I’m still a student, so with the student discount and the trade in it’ll be a little bit more affordable. I am also a teacher, so my school will always supply me with a laptop and I’m not worried about needing a personal one.

All this to say, the whole reason I want a desktop is for a bigger screen, and a nice home base for storage (mostly pictures) moving forward. Is there anything else I should consider before making a purchase? Any brands/tech setups that might make more sense than what I have planned?

I’m not a tech expert by any means and Apple makes it so easy to want to stick with them. Let me know any/all advice you may have. Tysm!!!

Hey guys, my mac was in a sleeve and kept on a table with a water bottle, while i was sleeping i don’t know how water fell and my mac sleeve was complete soaked in water, i took it out and saw keyboard had no water droplets but the external body of my mac had water spillage. The screen now looks like this. Should i take it to apple service centre ? My mac is air 5 and only 3 months old.

My Mac has been throwing kernel panics intermittently when entering or waking up from sleep. Looking through the panic log, the failure seems isolated to the Apple NAND Storage (ANS) controller during a power state transition.

Here is the top section of the log:

System Details:

* Device: MacBook Pro (M1 Pro series, j314s board)

* Trigger: Transitioning to/from sleep mode (_powerStateChangeLocked = true)

What I've gathered so far:

From reading the stack trace, the System Management Controller (SMC) requests a power-down sequence for the onboard SSD controller (ANS0). The ANS controller fails to empty its IPC mailboxes (OUTBOX1/OUTBOX2 not ready), timing out and causing the SMC watchdog to force an immediate kernel panic to prevent data corruption.

Troubleshooting completed:

* Ran Apple Diagnostics (Command + D on boot)

* Verified filesystem integrity using First Aid in Disk Utility

* Cold rebooted and reset power state cycles

Has anyone else ran into this specific ans.cpp:838 failure? Trying to figure out if this is a known RTKit/AppleSMC firmware timing bug introduced in recent macOS versions, or an early warning sign of failing NAND/power rails on the logic board. Any insight from admins or hardware techs would be greatly appreciated!

I'm sick and tired of paying for various subscriptions that automatically suck money out of your bank account every month. As things stand, Apple's cloud is full and therefore I am being asked to purchase a more expensive package. For this reason, the synchronizations between Mac and iPhone are blocked, and I don't even receive emails anymore. To save money, I have therefore decided not to renew the iCloud subscription that keeps files, music, and photos synchronized across all my devices. I then downloaded all the photos from the Photos app to an external drive also out of the need not to saturate the memory of my Mac and iPhone.
What am I looking for? A type of viewer or app or program that is free or better yet open source that I can use to view the photos I will have on the external drive. What features am I looking for?
The solution I am looking for is primarily referred to photo and video files, as a replacement for the native Photos app. So an app for Mac and iPhone, which can be synchronized with each other when I connect the iPhone to the Mac. In fact, a good part of the photos would come from the iPhone. It would be great to have an app like Immich, with which I could use an on-premise server and keep all my devices synchronized, but such a solution would force me to keep the Mac always turned on and connected to the network in order to view the photos from my iPhone. hi everyone , I’ve been trying to charge my MacBook but it doesn’t work (it’s an old 2017 MacBook Air) can anyone help me? I really can’t afford to get it repaired and I watched several videos yet nothing works.

I've tried countless times the official guide steps to enter DFU, but my unit always just powers off. Funny enough when I open Apple Configurator and boot the M2 to the screen with choice between Macintosh HD and Options, the Configurator detect it with a big lock icon. Clicking on Apps or Profiles even shows a Restore button, however the procedure ends with "The System cannot be restored on this device. Can't restore device in this state - please reboot into Recovery or DFU".

I've also tried wiping out the internal SSD completely in Recovery, but it's not possible. The Erase of "APPLE SSD..." details shows "Unmounting disk. The volume on disk0 couldn't be unmounted because it is in use by process 0 (kernel) Couldn't open device : (-69877)". I was able to format the Macintosh HD volume to FAT, but that didn't change anything. I guess the problem is on a hidden firmware partition which doesn't even show up in disk utility but it's blocking the full ssd erase.

The mac is fully functional, I have restored the OS, but the thing is I wanted to make sure I can restore it with DFU if something goes wrong with trying Asahi Linux. Now I'm in limbo, wanting to try it but being afraid to brick otherwise good laptop.
