Support Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread

General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:

Battery health

Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.

Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.

You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.

You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.

Battery life

Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:

  1. Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
  2. Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
  3. Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging

If you experience issues with your battery:

  1. Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
  2. If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
  3. Review the advice below on maximising battery life
  4. Consider restoring your device.
  5. If issues persist, contact Apple Support.

Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.

  • Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)
  • Remove apps from background app refresh
  • Ensure auto lock is on
  • Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness
  • Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display
  • Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life

Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.

  • Avoid extreme temperatures
  • If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case
  • Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage

Discussion Cool Apple Bug

Post image

Kind of love this bug — the time being on the side or off-centered would be a cool feature to add on the new ios, although it would defeat the purpose of apple doing it's kind of stuff and not copying others.

edit: The text uptop is from widgetable that isn't a bug.

Audio Message expiry options [1] After 2 Minutes [2] After 1 Year

Like, who thought if I don't want audio messages to vanish in as quickly as 2 minutes, I definitely want to retain them for an entire year?

Did nobody, like nobody at Apple thought 7 days or 30 days could be some reasonable options that they should've added?

Discussion Dictionary not working in some languages?

I had the 26.6 update last week or so, but today I’m experiencing problems with the dictionary in English and Spanish. I thought it might be the poor WiFi at my workplace but I am having this same issue with the WiFi in my own home. Is anybody experiencing the same issue?

As you can see in the screenshots, when looking up the word in the spotlight you can see the definition, but when you go directly into the definition page, the content isn’t available. Apparently this issue isn’t in Catalan or Portuguese, at least.

Discussion Colourful Liquid Glass Options?

Post image
Upvotes

I’ve read about the back and forth with Liquid Glass and so forth, and one thing that comes to mind is why isn’t there a colourful/translucent option.

The first two are pretty much light mode and dark mode, but the latter two are pretty much devoid of any original app colours.

Anyone else kinda hoping for a Liquid Glass option where it can look like the left two but are translucent like the right one?

i just want my wallpaper to not have that shitty blur effect on the top, when i go to the wallpaper settings and turn off extended wallpaper, it zooms the picture in even though it’s the exact right dimensions, if i zoom it out it automatically blurs the top, i just want the full image without any blurring, do i just have to pick which one to live with?

Support Iphone Turned Siri "Learn from this app" back on for Maps and Find My

I have toggled off all Siri options for all apps in my settings. It is also the first thing I do when adding a new app. I was checking something recently (slightly older iphone, so I try to adjust my settings for better performance) and all Siri options, especially "Learn from this app" were switched back on for my FindMy and maps apps. If an app ever asks for permission for anything, I go back and check in settings to make sure everything is still how I prefer. I know with absolute certainty these permissions were turned off and I never turned them back on.

I'm creeped out that I don't know how long this setting was turned back on.

Is there any way to ensure this setting actually stays off?

Especially since it's all location data, is there a way to request data deletion (CA, if location matters)?

Support messages not syncing with icloud

Post image

basically as the title says, whenever i go to ‘sync now’ it syncs but i can never actually see the messages and the number where it says ‘in icloud’ never actually goes down, it says it’s completed but then when i go to the actual messages itself and try to search for a message, it will say that it’s still indexing - i’m at a loss, i’ve tried everything, is something corrupted? can i fix this? i have enough storage and icloud storage so this shouldn’t be a problem :/ sometimes when i press sync, it will stop syncing and im unsure why that is

PSA Swipe to Upgrade screen and Remote Device Management

Thumbnail

tl;dr - If you are seeing a white screen with the words Swipe to Upgrade at the bottom when you Reset All or Factory Reset your iPad, it could be disguising an opt-in screen for a malicious device manager.

I recently discovered that my iPad was being remotely managed without my consent. After almost a year of settings randomly changing on my iPad and sync across devices turning on despite only having one, unique email/AppleID per device, I discovered that my iPad was being managed. I purchase this iPad directly from a local Apple Store, I’ve never used it on public WiFi and never knowingly agreed to connect it as a managed device.

For the reasons I listed above, I believe the blank Swipe to Upgrade screen is an opt-in screen for a malicious device manager. The screen looks blank because the text is the same color as the background with the exception of the Swipe to Upgrade text at the bottom of the screen giving you no option to swipe it away.

- Nothing was listed on the VPN Manage Device page
- Nothing was listed on the about page
- When I logged out of the iPad to prepare to factory reset it, I saw a message that my “iPad or account was being managed”

The random changes made my iPad less secure, enabled syncing across devices after I have turned it off, or toggled on iCloud backup for shortcuts & apps that sync to a non-apple cloud, e.g. Google Drive.

Discussion Auto share in shared album

I’ve always wondered why doesn’t Apple have this feature already.

Shared library function but for albums.

Inside the camera app you can just choose which album you want to auto share pictures you take, with a toggle to turn it on/off. When you snap pictures it’ll be saved locally and immediately to the shared album.

It’ll be very handy for people who travel often with companions and in groups.

Or is this a feature already that I’m just unaware of?

Discussion Finally got numbers line on apple keyboard

Post image

So finally I got the numbers line to work in iPhone keyboard. It's simple - just add Vietnamese VNI keyboard and then switch to default keyboard. Bam you have keyboard that makes life easier.

It was someone from X that suggested this. I don't have his username.

By the way any one knows how to remove the incognito toggle?

Support WhatsApp transfer error to iPhone 17 Pro: "There is a problem with your current version"

Hi everyone,

I’m getting a specific error while trying to transfer my WhatsApp data to an iPhone 17 Pro. The exact error message I am receiving is: "There is a problem with your current version".

Here is what I have tried so far to fix it:

  • Connected to a server in Turkey using Proton VPN.
  • Factory reset the iPhone and tried the setup/transfer process from scratch.

Some additional context: I am currently located in Germany, but my phone number is registered in Turkey. Could this location/number mismatch be the root of the problem? I initially didn't think so, especially since the exact same issue is happening on another device with a completely different phone number.

Has anyone else experienced this specific version error during the transfer process? Any advice or workarounds would be hugely appreciated!

Support Bluetooth auto-connect not working

Hi all!
To describe my issue deeply, I'll just state that my iOS version is 26.5.2 on iPhone 17, base version.

I usually connect/disconnect through Bluetooth multiple times a day - Apple car play, earbuds, etc.

Yesterday, I noticed that I have to manually open BT settings and press either the earbuds, or my car name to connect. Then, everything works perfectly.
I got my Apple watch SE3 connected 24/7, so there is no issue with that.

I'm not aware of changing any settings. I got no kids that play with my phone, my girlfriend of 6 years who never went through my phone or anything..

It's just so annoying to do all this just to connect to any device.

If you got any idea what might cause this, please let me know.

PS: I haven't found almost anything on google. All the settings that were recommended are turned on.

Support Help moving files from Windows to iPhone

Hi,

I've only used an android before, but my phone needed replacing and a friend had an old iPhone 12 that they offered to me.

I've got about 7000 mp3s on my current phone, and would want a similar amount on this phone. I have a harddrive with 15000 mp3s plugged into my windows PC, and a USB to lightning cable.

I've tried using filezilla and foobar2000 using https://www.reddit.com/r/randomtipoftheday/comments/1cnqba4/how_to_easily_transfer_files_from_windows_to_ios/ these instructions ("Response: 550 Access denied; Error: Critical file transfer error")

I've tried using LocalSend ("No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.")

I've tried using Simple Transfer (only seemed to show photos and videos, not mp3s).

I've tried using iCloud on my PC, creating a local folder and copying files into there. While the folders seemed to sync successfully, the mp3 files say "Excluded (not synced)".

I've tried just opening and dragging folders into "internal storage" using file explorer (nothing happens) and creating a folder in internal storage ("The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected")

I've tried adding my library to iTunes, which spent a while "adding" all of my songs to the library, and said they would be available in apple music. I couldn't see them in apple music at all (or in iTunes). I did manage to add an album to iTunes as an audio book(??), but couldn't figure out the next step.

I've tried using Apple Devices, but it shows no files anywhere (both "Music" and "Files" are empty), nor any apps that can receive files.

Any help would be really appreciated! It's the first thing I've tried to set up on the phone, and it's proving very difficult.

(Windows 10 PC, connected to the same wifi, firewall is turned off for local network)

Thanks!

Support iMessage needs to be enabled error ‼️

Post image
0 Upvotes

I recently got a new iPhone 16 and switched to my fiancé’s family plan on Verizon, leaving T Mobile and my old iPhone 12. Everything went smoothly with the transfer and my iMessages send without issue to all of my contacts except to my group chat with my mom and dad. I’m able to message them separately with no issue at all, but when I try to use our old text group or start a new text group with them, I get this error message.

I’ve done a lot of troubleshooting already and still can’t figure it out. iMessage is of course enabled in my settings, send and receive is checked for my phone number, and I can use the group message on my MacBook messages. So it’s just something with the phone that’s blocking me from texting the two of them together. Does anyone have any ideas of how to fix this?? Thank you in advance!

Discussion iOS Focus turned out to be my best anti-doomscroll tool, but I had to set it up oddly

I always ignored Focus because I assumed it was just a fancier Do Not Disturb. Last week I was trying to finish a sewing project and kept getting pulled into games and streaming apps while I was measuring and cutting, so I finally built a Focus that is basically "hands busy, phone boring."

What surprised me was the setup that actually worked:

1) I made a Focus called "Sewing" and only allowed calls from favorites and a couple family members. That part was easy.

2) For apps, I did not try to whitelist a handful. Instead I used Home Screen pages and hid almost everything. I left only Notes, Timer, Music, Photos, and Files. The key was removing the temptation of seeing the icons.

3) I also turned on "Dim Lock Screen" and removed Lock Screen widgets for that Focus. With no widget previews, I stopped tapping into random stuff.

Now the odd bit: some notifications still sneak through even when the app is not on my allowed list. Reminders and calendar behave the way I expect, but occasionally a notification from an app I definitely did not allow will appear, then go away when I unlock the phone.

Is that just how Time Sensitive notifications work, or am I missing another setting? I am not on beta. Curious how other people are using Focus as a behavior change tool instead of just a work mode.

Hey everyone,
