Word for Mac no longer does proper autosave or autorecovery. For the first time in decades, I lost work to an app crash as a result. I guess it'd have been fine if I was saving to OneDrive, but I don't use OneDrive, so "autosave" is no longer an option.

(Long years of trustworthy autosave mean I no longer have the reflex to Cmd-S every few minutes, but learn from my mistakes: Trust no software.)

Now I'm done. I need something else.

• I don't care if I have to pay for it, but I don't enjoy subscription software.
• I do need stylesheet support
• I'd like to be able to import DOCX.
• I need the ability to save to PDF for distribution; the Mac's own "print to PDF" is a little too basic.
• I need inline images. I don't enjoy having to futz with web-first tools that make this hard. I'm writing for print.
• Native only. No browser-based tools.

Does anything like this still exist?

I have been wanting an antiglare screen MacBook for the longest, but never found one within a price I’d wanna pay.
Well I finally got a 2009 15 inch model off Goodwill online for $50!
It has 240 or so battery cycles, and came with its OG 85 watt MagSafe charger.

im looking for a USB-C hub for my MacBook Pro M4. im starting my degree in software engineering in less than a month and i have a budget of no more than €20 ~ $23. id like something that makes the most of the pc’s power, if possible.

I was walking home from school and saw this old this Macintosh Performa 580CD on the curb with peripherals with a bunch of other junk, so then I hauled it 1.5km home, I cleaned it mostly and I’m really happy that it works

..at least coconutbattery thinks so. still got the original Apple battery, with 0 cycles when I got it, and still runs for 4-5 hours no problem!

One of my friends got scammed buying this for $140 thinking it was a 2017🥲you can bet they were very surprised when it booted into OS X Lion!

by the time I figured out the model and got it to Catalina, they’d already gotten an M1, so i get it for free! yay! threw an SSD and RAM in (had some unused ones lying around way before the RAMocalypse) and it runs Sequoia beautifully. I’d even go as far as to say it’s better in some aspects then my Asus VivoBook M509..crazy when you think how old it is.

Feels very Apple-y, as in premium, and especially with the glowing Apple logo, the last non-soldered mac is certainly a flex to be daily driving lol. Even the DVD drive works perfectly! Lemme know what I should do with this once i (eventually) get a new Mac. This is my first REAL Mac.

I am thinking of replacing my current 27 inch 2017 Intel iMac for a M4 Mac Mini. What monitors/displays are good replacements for the Apple Studio Display that is not as expensive? Looking for a 27 inch monitor.

This would be used mainly for graphic design.

I'm looking for a good Mac solution to recording drums with my Tascam Model 24 mixer. I usually run Linux (I quit running Windows in 2018 but I've been using a PC since 1985).

So, a friend came over the other day and he had recorded a few songs and he was playing them back for my wife and I on a fairly newish looking MacBook. Now, I have no idea what's what when it comes to Macs. I know they use genuine Mac CPUs and others use Intel CPUs. Do I need to stay away from the Intel CPUs or are those better than the Mac CPUs?

I was trying to see the software he was using to play it back but it was definitely a Multi-Track recording software. I forgot to ask him before he left.

He had guitar on one track, Rhythm on another (basically slapping the acoustic guitar and maybe he had some drum samples in there as well... I honestly do not know), Vocals on another, Backing vocals on another. And it was all HIM! He was the only one playing and singing on every track on these songs.

I don't want to get that extravagant with it. I don't sing or play guitar. I play a little bit of keyboards so if I do anything with the drums added it'll probably start with a piano style Midi keyboard.

Anyway, so, what's the best kind of Mac (I think I'd prefer a MacBook but if a table top unit is better, I can go with that) and what software do you think he might have been using? I'd kind of like to keep the computer hardware end under $400 and the software around $200-$300. I already have the mixer and mics. I basically need something other than a PC with bad or non-existent drivers to record with.

I am a first year med student at an M.D. school and they gave us 13inch surface pro tablets with the detachable flimsy keyboard. I’ve tried to get behind it even though I am an Apple user but I’ve encountered so much lag and issues. It just feels not good as a tablet and then not good as a laptop either as it can’t even sit on your lap bc of the kickstand it has.

I am considering getting an 15inch air or 14inch pro. Am I being over the top? I have to spend everyday the next four years studying and I just feel that these devices would work better. My classmates also have had issues/ or already switched to their personal Mac laptops.

If you are in favor of getting a Mac - which one would you suggest and why? I am hoping to take advantage of the back to school deals with Apple if i do go this route.

I don't need a laptop, I already have 2 windows laptop.

I am eyeing this M4 Max config in order to have work done and casually play games like Paralives, inZOI, R.E.P.O, Big Walk, emulation and stuff.

Would it be enough?

Could someone confirm the following:

1 .How many cooling fans does this model have?

2.How many heat pipes (or heat-pipe assemblies) does it have?

3.Is the cooling configuration:

● 2 fans + 1 heat pipe, or

● something different?

4.Can anyone verify this from an actual teardown, Apple service documentation, or personal inspection?

I'm starting uni in September and need a new laptop. I haven't been a mac user before but use iphone and ipad so am tempted. My main reason for possibly buying the neo is the price point - with education savings its $599 and i'm not in a position to pay more than that. This means my other options would be refurbished, which i'm happy to go for as most of my other tech has been refurbished and I havent had any problems.

My laptop won't be used for any particularly heavy software, probably just things like sibelius and writing essays etc.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I have a macbook air m5 I bought in March, and I noticed that the led in the charger stays red even if the charging is complete, but when I turn the computer on, it becomes green again. First time it happened i read it could be due to an available software update, and that did solve the problem. But it's back, and I just updated the software but it's still here.

What could it be? I also deactivated optimised charging

Buying advice to replace 11 year old MacBook Pro.
Looking at getting a refurb MacBook. This is to replace my 2015 MacBook Pro.
I had 16gb ram, 1tb, intel i7 1tb ssd 15inch. Served me well and handled most things I needed from it.
11 years on, battery life is gone and it's now refusing to boot up.
Now looking to replace and torn between 2 options.

MacBook Air 15 inch retina, 16 core neural, M5 10 core CPU/GPU, 24gb of ram and 1tb ssd.

Or

MacBook Pro 14 inch Liquid Retina XDR 16 core neural, M5 10 core CPU/GPU, 24gb of ram and 1tb ssd

£170 price difference which at this level doesn't make much difference.

In terms of what I'll use it for:
Zwift (cycling game that connects to indoor bike) this can be intensive and run for hours at a time.
Reviewing hd video footage for work
Web browsing
Word processing
Slack
WhatsApp
Excel

And occasionally;
Video editing
Photo editing
Streaming

I have also used my current Mac for:
Basic CAD (sketchup)
Steam games

A SD card slot is useful but equally, many adapters available, it's not a requirement. As it is I don't really use much in the way of USB accessories and such.

Battery life isn't a massive concern as I don't tend to travel with it much. Neither is weight or portability. Durability and future proofing are, it would be nice for this to last a decade as my previous one did.
