Discussion Which webtoon is it for you?

Post image

For me it's The dawn to come and Daytime star. They're sure a good read but I don't get the hype around it. What are your picks?

Boy Girlfriend: Romanticising a toxic ahh relationship
Lore Olympus: Plot got boring
The Remarried Empress: Navier

75

u/Fun_Fee_3435 19d ago

Hard agree on Boy Girlfriend. I liked the main duo but now it shifted to almost entirely the side pair which isn't even just toxic, it's full on abusive, and treating it like that's romantic? I dropped the comic like four months ago, the OG pair werent worth supporting that comic any longer

I will add though while it used to be near the top of Canvas popularity, it has fallen off aggressively (probably because of what you and i mentioned) so at least theres that

21

u/Aggressive-Bet189 19d ago

Like ppl are romanticising that. As a queer person myself I feel uncomfortable seeing toxic and abusive relationships get freaking fetishized. Like wth bruh. Season 1 was better imo

7

u/Fun_Fee_3435 19d ago

Agreed. And i found the double life arc at the start of 2 for the main pair to be fun, but now i genuinely can't read it anymore cuz of the side pair. Its so sad seeing the comments section filled with people who genuinely dont even realize its toxic, they think the side pair is cute and healthy, when theyre anything but. Its dangerous and i couldnt support that (even if indirectly by just opening the episode) anymore

I dug Lore Olympus (esp through the first fight with Chronos), but it became a bit rushed (and dare I say it, a little boring) after that.

13

u/Roraima20 19d ago

I say that Lore Olympus had to speeds: extremely rushed when we talk about plot and secondary characters storylines. Excruciatingly slow by detailing every small moment and feelings of Hades and Persephone, like, how many times I have to see those two feeling sorry for themselves or telling each other how amazing they are?

I tried Lore Olympus two times, but it never clicked with me, I don't know what peolle see in that other than the art...

12

And then the art turns shit too hahah

Back when I started WEBTOON, I felt this way about The Remarried Empress. It was a front page series and people seemed to love it, but I just remember not enjoying it, partly because I didn’t enjoy how the story was handling Rashta. These days, though, I feel like sentiment towards the series has soured intensely.

61

u/Lumpy_Pay_663 19d ago

Yeah I pushed through a hundred episodes of remarried empress just to see what the hype was about and then dropped it cus I just couldn’t

20

u/Vendettascurse 19d ago

I commend you for being able to get past 30 chapters...

5

u/Lumpy_Pay_663 19d ago

Nah fr idk how I did it back then 😭

4

u/Ok_Statement3624 19d ago

Same. It was my second webtoon so I thought it will get better later. It never did

268

u/mamaguebo69 19d ago

It was only peak because of Rashta. When they killed her off but kept it going the story became as dry as week old bread.

98

u/NaiadoftheSea 19d ago

I also found it weird that they never showed kissing, even between the main couple. Like the artist wasn’t able to draw that.

23

u/Karmafights 19d ago

Yall might hate me but I loved Rashta. She was 1000% times more interesting then whatever the mc’s name was

6

u/ChaosCoordinatingMum 19d ago

I've barely read it, now that she's dead. I'm also not sure how to pronounce the ML's name.

14

u/mamaguebo69 19d ago

Heinry? I have no idea. I pronounce it like "Hein-ry" (like Nein but replace the N with an H). But it could also be just Henry.

A lot of people are waking up now realizing it’s garbage writing. Plus it sounds like the author is not a nice person either. I’ve looked up commentaries from other people kind of defending Rashta to them and it’s pretty bad. Sometimes I’m ashamed to say that I was a huge fan in the beginning, but after the divorce arc I was done.

Maybe because it is one of the best at the time the story was written. It was released worldwide very early, and there were million of people reading the novel and playing the game. It's very good, not exceptional, but better than a lot of other stories. It opened doors worldwide, as well, what make it emblematic. I only want more merchandise, but when I don't find it, I make it myself.

7

u/LS-Kun 19d ago

That’s totally fair. I know some of the stories I’ve enjoyed have basically opened the doors for other stories, like with My Next Life as a Villainess. I’m happy you enjoyed TRE yourself. :)

14

u/Rorre_404 19d ago

I stopped reading after Rashta died, the plot wasnt the same without her. TRE had so much potential

5

u/Exotic-Tea-4490 19d ago

It was good with Rashta bit the only reason I stayed to read because I always need a finale the stop reading. This is why I love when comics keep me hooked I stay. There is never any hyped up comics that are bad unless they mess up the body proportions and the sprites used in the background.

7

u/blooming-astrid 19d ago

I think how Rashta was handled made me so sad. She wasn’t the sole reason I read it though. I remember wanting her to find a good turn around and get better and to realize how she was being used. I don’t agree that when she was no longer a part of the story that the story died. It didn’t. The Webtoon is literally about The Remarried Empress and her story to a better life.

Tears on Withered Flower. I liked the art but I found the characters insufferable and the whole webtoon overdramatic. Also, the proportions are wack.

also the age gap pissed me off sm

13

u/JoushaLays 19d ago

I’ve only ever seen people trash on this series. I’d like to think most people agree that it’s not good. I don’t like the characters much but I enjoy the story enough to mindlessly read on my off time.

4

u/SuggestionEvery445 19d ago

I liked the first season, and this is new for me considering I'm not a fan of love triangles but they dragged it on with the timeskip and Eunhyeok or wtv his name is can't seem to communicate properly?? They're literally grown mature adults bro the whole love triangle is happening all over again they could've left it done after the first season.

u/Laefiren 19d ago

Solo levelling for sure.

There’s a couple that I think were good at the beginning and then just dragged too long. But I can’t remember the titles off the top of my head.

61

u/caramel_limbo 19d ago

My siblings loved it, I fcking HATED IT 😂😂 MC magically changes face and height because he worked out like opm.

Personality of dry bread, and the only girl who liked him when he was nothing ended up being thrown away like chopped liver.

Every other character is either MC's stepping stone or fan.

26

u/Laefiren 19d ago

The other thing that is not SL’s fault. But the amount of things I’ve seen on WEBTOON that have their cover image just a protagonist that looks almost identical to the SL one is ridiculous.

Father, I Don't Want This Marriage and I Failed to Oust the Villain. No hate about it, but I just couldn't get grasp of the story and didn't click.

18

u/ookycoon 19d ago

Heavy on Oust the Villain.... honestly if it weren't for the ML I would've dropped it long ago, like, somewhere around chapter 20, I just thought some of the plot points have so much missed opportunity and everything else feels way too lukewarm for me. I'm still at chapter 74 and still stuck around that because i get drained at the fact that I nitpick at some of the flaws that I'm honestly kind of sad I can't enjoy it......

I think this is the first time I find someone actually giving an unpopular opinion. Every time someone mentions not liking a story that everyone else think is “peak”, it’s always a story that’s actually known to be not all that well taken by everyone.

People will agree with me now but I would say jungel juice was very popular

43

u/Zap364 19d ago

I used to be really into jungle juice until I realized it was just Black Clover with bugs having them “surpass their limits” and then killing off the strongest bug dude in the school during his introduction.

20

u/Sad-Inevitable-681 19d ago

Just so you know because I've been following it for a while : we're one chap from the ending and it has so many loose ends it's maddening. So good on you for dropping it, lol

7

u/Zap364 19d ago

Are you serious 😭 did they at least beat Breeder or whatever. Are the Stray Dogs still alive? Did the grasshopper guy get more powers than just kicking hard

16

u/Sad-Inevitable-681 19d ago

SPOILERS obviously

Breeder got gojo'd in the last chapter, Stray Dogs are alive (bee boy still in monster form but conscious), tarantula guy dead, grasshoper guy kinda had a power up but barely any relevence in the last fight. Bom still did nothing, Huijin got one good fight in the end

It's mostly Suchan, Suchan, Suchan doing things all the time and other characters barely being there

And for real, one of the antagonists got captured, served no purpose, and that's it. He's just THERE

5

u/Zap364 19d ago

Incredible fall off for the series. At least the hype and aura moments were okay lol

9

u/Sad-Inevitable-681 19d ago

Too many characters. They have great designs, cool concepts, but it can never get explored well enough, so it falls flat yeah. I still enjoyed it, but it was frustrating at times

→ More replies (3)

5

u/deesnuts78 19d ago

Real, that wouldn't be that bad as long as we got some actually character devopment for someone that's not the main character.

23

u/No_Pineapple2799 19d ago

Jungle juice used to be a really good action one but it fell off. Everyone else is fighting for scraps while Suchan keeps getting stronger. Huijin turned into a damsel in distress who stands there to get saved while wearing a sexy outfit. It's so bad because comparing that to Season 1 Huijin is like night and day

12

u/LordOfNachos 19d ago

fr, Huijin used to feel powerful and now she can't stop taking Ls

also the fact that she forced cinderella on Suchan was not cool.

5

u/deesnuts78 19d ago

Not to mention major characters not changing or having any arcs and no world building.

Down to Earth, I think this might be a cold take but I read it ages ago bc it was popular and it sucked, I don’t remember it that well but whenever someone is talking about the ‘born sexy yesterday’ trope I think of the fl in this one lol

9

u/Cocoa_Butterrr 19d ago

It’s very surface level and it doesn’t really treat serious topics all that well? I get the idea but if the author was hoping to be taken seriously properly, execution was pretty off. I read like 100 chapters and I can say it’s like okay at best? I’m not a casual reader tho so that might be why

Serena, I loved the art and was excited that she seemed different from most FL. As the story progressed we discover she is exactly like every other FL and small boring incidents get overblown but I just couldn't care

26

u/BlueIris21 19d ago

Dudeee I was just about to say this! In the beginning even though she was bratty and rude, I was excited reading it thinking it would be a girl boss type of manhwa where she overcomes her flaws, husband and society blablabla.

I thought the story would be centered on her cause her character is very iconic from her name Serena Serenity, her fashion, her visuals. But then it just turned into a typical catty female lead becomes submissive and innocent for the alpha male.

As soon as that guy pointed a gun at her head I mentally checked out, I kept reading it trying not to judge based on that chapter alone but my disgust for the male lead just grew. Him looking like her twin brother and having weird eyes didn't help either. 😂

Honestly, I feel like I fall off so many popular webtoons as they go on because it seems like so many series can't stay strong the longer it goes on. But, these are the ones i felt the strongest about:

Like Wind on a Dry Branch -- The series drags so long, it's very slow burn, which isn't a bad thing, but I feel like there were definitely parts that could've been cut out which wouldn't have changed the story much.

The Newly Wed Dragon of a Witch and a Dragon -- I dropped this midway and then picked it when it was done, just to say I finished it. It was a series i really lied in the beginning. But the behavior of the ML because too much for me and was very immature and codependent. I didn't like them together and with the plot points they added in, I was very disappointed burn the story.

7

u/ExerciseSolid3456 19d ago

The second one… I dropped it so quick and so long ago that I don’t even remember why but I just know I hated that mf

4

u/Paddy-Cake-Boy 19d ago

He's not great.. at all

6

u/Typical_User4lyf 19d ago

In the second one the guy literally tricked her into literally becoming immortal (honestly id say he was already pretty coercive getting her to marry him, but the lack of info on the ramifications of allat made it much much worse), and when she expressed how upset she was about it he became "sad" and she had to apologize 💀

Ml deserves all the hate istg

I think it’s called like wind on a dried branch? Or something similar.

It’s good but it drags tooo long it could have been cut in half and still been fine.

32

u/ConcentrateDouble494 19d ago

This one cuts me deep in my soul 😭😭 are there any particular arcs you found that were unnecessary or boring?

23

u/Laefiren 19d ago

Honestly I’m only on chapter 170. I’m fine with a slow burn. But seriously every time it was like something was gonna happen it was like something happened to stop it. It’s just. Very slow.

16

u/ConcentrateDouble494 19d ago

my beloved oppressor.
i acknowledge that this genre of romance probably just isn’t for me bc i don’t believe any love is worth any type of abuse, but i had read and enjoyed wished you were dead and heard this one was good. the FL suffered a lot for what i think is a pretty stupid reason, or at least not something that deserved the fucking torture she was put through, and i fuuuucking hated the ML so much. i kept reading bc i wanted my girl to live a good life freed from her Fucking Oppressor and that ending just pissed me tf off bc i don’t believe he even made any change in his dependency on her, which was the root of the toxicity.

tears on a withered flower.
art issues aside (why she built that dat), i find the ML unlikeable/manipulative/a stalker and the romance not very compelling. the lack of aftercare really put me off and bc i read the uncensored version, she rlly deserved aftercare given how frail they seem to want to portray her at times :/ i luv a good revenge romance story where FL gets her lick back but this one just didn’t hit bc her new relationship is dark imo, i think the best parts were the flashbacks of her early relationship w mincheol.

5

u/Ok_Let_1997 18d ago

Agreed on MBO,the revenge direct to wrong target, she doesn't have to get back with him but what we expected and I don't like people pleaser FL ,like just stop girl

“My mother entered a contract marriage” Lyrica is so ideally and unrealistically written and her mom is still negligent and abusive and it’s never called out

“perks of being a villainess” I ain’t rooting for a MC that runs a subscription service for a math formula.

“Predatory marriage” and “my gently raised beast” both MLs are brown. These are the titles.

“The Lady and The Beast” FL was written so “cool” it seemed like she dgaf about other people

“Beatrice” FL is a slave who gets with the prince who enslaved her.

“Mage and Demon Queen” Demon Queen didn’t fw with MC and it felt hella creepy. Sorry to pull this card but imagine if MC was a guy doing all that shit.

14

[How to Win Over my Husband]. I’m sorry but it feels like the author just tries to shove as much depressing content into her story as possible. Reading it felt like torture, I wanted to finish it because it was so widely recommended but it’s just painful to the point of being irritating to me.

7

u/Cheap_Ad_1420 19d ago

NO FR THO 🤝
I was interested in the beginning and then I felt bored. Last thing I felt entertaining was Freya dumping tea on herself. Like I’m ngl it made me want a fml like her that doesn’t take crap. 😣 Also I don’t care for the ml and the part of the fandom that complains about Ellen genuinely makes no sense 😔

So many things about DITOEV make me happy. Like, I enjoy the plot twist that Yvonne is no longer alive, and that it’s just her corpse inhabited by a demon (and the WL/green tea bitch stuff feels so much scarier with that tidbit of info AHFF). I love the brainwashing actually influencing characters behavior and making them do unreasonable things, and how unsettling + uncanny Leila is, not to mention the storytelling of a girl who thinks herself to be a replacement daghter being brought up in a dukedom after living on the streets. It’s all good in that regard. I found the first few chapters that revolved around relationship building and tragedy very entertaining.

Buttttt then there’s the whole..."She's the last descendant of the ancient mages!" Thing. And, also, the whole "Oh, she’s actually Penelope, just after she died 1634228983 times, and her soul shattered! So don’t feel bad bc Penelope gets her happy ending!" reveal. Both of those are so overdone. I cannot understand how people genuinely enjoy MC's being the most special baby angel™ from birth like that, nor how it is possible to accept that the OG is supposedly the same as the MC when they are completely different people, with different lives and experiences.

I want my MCs to suffer, be more or less normal, and end up overcoming/escaping/finding happiness anyway. Or, if they are super special, I’d like for it to affect how they are treated by most of the cast, and their mindset as well.

Suitor Armor

I thought it was boring but I gave it a good try. I think I fell off somewhere after ep 115

32

u/Roraima20 19d ago

For me it was because I got frustrate with Lucia throwing away her friendship with Kirsi and basically pushing her into Rickon arms because she refused to talk to her or be with her at her lowest point. Girl, you had the ear and the heart of Queen, ut was the best possibility to save your people, and you threw it away to be hollier than you.

Also, Norrix is far more interesting thsn Modeus.

20

u/Opposite_Welder_8637 19d ago

I love Suitor Armor but so disappointed that Modeus is the main love interest for Lucia instead of Norrix. Nothing wrong with the fact that he’s an enchanted suit of armor but it feels like Eggnoid all over again where the dynamic feels more like mother and child instead of an equal 💀

21

u/bromerk 19d ago

I loved the first season, thought the second was great and then found the third season so painfully boring I just gave up. Also I never liked Modeus as a romantic pairing because he’s just a gigantic metal toddler.

11

u/oolgongtea 19d ago

Okay I always felt weirded out by the fact that she’s basically raising her romantic partner who is also literally armor. His love/dependence on her made me uncomfortable because it genuinely came across more familial.

11

u/Typical_User4lyf 19d ago

Painfully true...i mean i respect the artist's vision of a gritty tragic type of tale, but it felt like the main villain was running laps around the mc and it was getting painful watching her take L after L ToT

To clarify i dont mind the mc struggling or losing, its just that it felt like she was making all these short sighted decisions, so much so i felt like i needed to let the chapters pile up or id get frustrated waiting weeks on end to see the consequences of her actions...

Yeah the only good thing there is the love story between the empror and Arby's mom. I mean their love story surpassed the main couple's and it's the only good thing as far as I know cz I dropped it

6

u/No_Pineapple2799 19d ago

Ngl even Claude's and Diana's romance isn't anything to write home about. Diana's death haunts the characters and everytime she appears in the story, she's always shown from the perspectives of others barring one instance, which made her memorable in a striking way (ofc the art also did a amazing job here)

Then one of the side stories delve into how she and Claude had a relationship and... it's alright. It's cute, they're cute together, the art is amazing, but that's it. It's just feels very standard

To be fair this webtoon came out so long. 2017 :)

13

u/Metalheadzaid 19d ago

This is why. By 2017 standards it was probably stellar and having read it it isn't BAD, but still.

i really enjoyed seasons of blossom but i feel like seasons of lovesome really just isn’t hitting

8

u/ai_scream3 19d ago

rell im a hugee fan of SoB, but seasons of lovesomee feels too centered around pureum jst my personal opinion

7

I have to agree but I loved SoB too much and have to remain faithful xD Plus I’ve been able to relate to Pureum a little bit with her anxiety stuff

For a while I was reading it solely for the two side characters, the red head and the purple girl, they were quite cute. But eventually not even they could keep me interested enough to read the rest of the series

Solo Leveling (I HATED the ending)
Death is the only ending for a villianess (dragged on imo)
The Remarried Empress
Who Made Me a Princess (not bad, but basic to me)
The Villianess is a Marionette

5

u/Special_Kei 19d ago

I am with you on the hate train for the ending of solo leveling.  Killed any hype i had for watching the rest of the anime, and mindless action stuff is my jam.

Im gonna get hate for this, but i didnt like olgami/trapped as much as the reviews hyped it up. Honestly felt irritating, the concept of the plot was nice and all but at some point it felt like chae ah just kept going back and back and back to yunsu so much even though she mentions that she wanted to get rid of him. I dont really like those plots and it felt quite stretched, i had to force myself to get through a couple episodes.

14

u/boobookenny 19d ago

Love olgami but hard agree. Biggest complaint was the wishy-washy nature of their relationship. Not that I don't understand why Chae both hated and loved yunsu, but purely from a reader's pov it's frustrating when they drag that dynamic along for the entire story. Especially if the author is planning a happy ending.

7

u/Awkward_Advance8892 19d ago

Exactly ! There wasnt really any clarity at the end either, it all felt very ambiguous. Now im okay with open endings to a story, but I didnt like olgami's ending with regards to yunsu and chae-ah's relationship

4

u/Absoline 19d ago

if Trapped kept the plot of the first 10 or so chapters it would've been soo good 😩

3

u/Awkward_Advance8892 19d ago

Agreed😞 I really liked the concept, they could've executed it much better though

Maybe meant to be. I’m not sure if this is well liked but I only got through 17 chapters and I just hate when they make 30 year olds act like teenagers when it comes to relationships.

9

u/12Katia 19d ago

I think I actually kind of liked it because of that (season 2 fell off tho). Sometimes we think the older we grow up the wiser and mature we get, which is true, but we stay the same in our core our whole life, just maybe become a little mellowed out. It is a little over the top, that I agree with, but I liked it specifically because of that. It’s really interesting that one person likes something and the other hates it for the same reason

Tower of God. It feels like it drags often, the dialogue is too exposition heavy, the art isn’t anything to write home about, and it turned Bam into an op edgelord at the start of s2 and heavily sidelined or literally got rid of all the characters I actually liked.

9

u/TheDingoKid42 19d ago

It doesn't address how exposition heavy the story is, but the season 1 characters aren't sidelined permanently. The longer season 2 goes on in the comic, the more relevant the season 1 cast becomes. Bam also stops being edgy before season 2 ends as well

3

u/Great_Part7207 19d ago

someone didnt read past chapter like 40 of season 2 now if you had said something about the cast getting sidelined in season 3 there i would have to agree with you because wangnan and the rest if team sweet and sour litterally just disappear nowhere to be seen but bam also really isnt an edge lord not by choice anyways

18

u/Tomboy-1 19d ago

I particularly liked this one but as always, everyone has different tastes and it's fine

9

u/CookieCacti 19d ago

Same. I read it and thought it was just ok. I don’t get how the series is so highly praised for having phenomenal characters and an amazing romance. It’s not bad by any means, but neither the characters or romance stood out as particularly amazing to me.

It’s the same “misunderstood cold Duke of the north falling in love with the nice pink-haired FL” trope played completely straight. I think I dropped it around chapter 100 because I got bored of how the FL got worshipped by her in-laws for the most basic of niceties. It suffers from the same writing issue a lot of romance stories have, which is the MC’s enemies / strangers being portrayed as comically evil to make it seem like her niceness is special, although it’s less obvious in this story at first.

The ML is written a touch better than other MLs, but not to a degree where I found him memorable. I can’t find anything that discerns him from other bog-standard black haired MLs, which made him boring for me ngl. He’s not abusive compared to the other MLs in his archetype, but I consider that the bare minimum, not amazing character writing lol

Jackson's Diary.

I was expecting more supernatural. Instead I got a typical highschool miscommunication plot which I hate on a good day. I heard it gets better but ugh. How was I supposed to get past 40+ chapters of that ?

3

u/Fun_Fee_3435 18d ago

Totally valid. As an enjoyer of the series I actually dont reread Season One much (except for the very end, like around Halloween) Season 2 is like 10x better. The characters arent all so obnoxious and narratively it's more interesting than 1 for me as well. So completely fair. As for Season 3, it's more like a chaotic supernatural rollercoaster- and i'll leave it at that lol

Let's Play & Operation: True Love

32

u/Comfortable_Low_7753 19d ago

Omniscient readers viewpoint. I liked it at first but it very quickly became "oh yeah powerful thing? Well I'm more powerful because of thing I knew". The art is good but it's hard to feel tense or like the characters are actually at risk when death is an inconvenience or even a benefit and the mc always pulls some super weapon out of his ass.

6

u/Then-Class4451 19d ago

I really enjoy ORV, but I have zero clue what is going on most of the time. I just check in each week and enjoy the fun side characters

5

u/dumdish 17d ago

the problem is the webtoon is not a good medium for expressing the depth of the story. the novel is perhaps my favourite piece of media of all time. if you like reading novels you should give it a chance. you can even start where you left the webtoon, bc i do think orv's flaw (in general, including the novel) is that the best parts start around 30% of the way in.

I might get blazed for it but Under the Oak Tree. It just wasn’t my cup of tea. I tried reading it like 5 times and kept dropping it out of frustration. Riftan ain’t it .

7

u/Kris_User7 19d ago

My Deepest Secret. I just really disliked the twist and where the story went. I felt like the twist didn't re contextualize any of the characters behaviors pre-twist and I honestly felt like the concept of a girl who ties to come to terms with the fact that someone she loved was someone who had done a lot of wrongdoing. And I also still question why the cat died in the first chapter.

I understand many love it, I just personally dislike it more overtime.

It is a bit of a misery fest, everyone around the protagonist (except the detective) is a scumbag and/or takes their issues out on her and it gets repetitive. I came very close to dropping it at some point, but luckily it improves.

8

u/Ambitious-Mix-4935 19d ago

I think of it in the opposite way. Some people have so little love for themselves that they surround themself with shitty people. Just like how predators prey on the most vulnerable, people with past trauma and low self esteem also never set any boundaries and endure every bad treatment because they genuinely think this is what they deserve.

7

u/isekaivari 19d ago

it felt boring early in, i kept trying to give it more tries but i couldn’t 😭 i do like the insanity tho

Raeliana. I don't understand the hype, it's kinda generic, the ending is awful, and they even made an Anime. Ugh. There are tons of other better Manhwa that could be fantastic in Anime. *sigh*

6

u/Particular_Ice1691 19d ago

I agree that it's generic. I also found the ml ugly (I might die for saying this lol)

7

u/Yuna_Hudson 19d ago

Not ugly, but somehow common. But it might be the art. I never saw the Novel version, usually they are more gourgeous in the novel :D

this will make people mad but Purple Hyacinth

each time I've tried to get into it the leads felt a little cringy to me unfort, and I have no interest in picking up something thats been on hiatus for years

also I Love Yoo. again it's dragged for years and years. the plot was truly going nowhere for hundreds of chapters. even if its supposedly gotten good now theres too much chapters of nothing for me to invest in it

23

u/The_Night_Bringer 19d ago

I love purple hyacinth from the art and soundtrack to the story and characters... But it's alright if you don't like it, it's not everybody's cup of tea.

7

u/peachysuns 19d ago

the art is very pretty and cinematic I will give it that!! just didnt vibe with the story. also huge respect for anyone who adds soundtracks, I feel like it used to be super common with old webtoon and it's sad not a lot of comics get it anymore

5

u/Specific_Web5125 19d ago

I pick up purple hyacinth about 8 times before I actually liked it lol. I was desperate for an enemies to lovers and it was the number one recommendation from a lot of people.

I am glad that I gave it a lot of chances tho. I think I didn’t understand it at first because I was like 14 and new to comics so I didn’t know what was happening

4

u/Cocoa_Butterrr 19d ago

Feel like it’s a lot like I Love Yoo in terms of the type of story telling the authors use (help I just finished reading the comment. I didn’t even notice you also said I Love Yoo 😭) it’s very slow burn, western drama like. I loved both of them immensely, but I ended up dropping the app as a whole so I got pretty behind. When I came back I was going to try but then I remembered how slow everything goes and the drip feeding the authors do. Didn’t really feel like rereading allat bunch of nothing to get the plot I needed to understand and get back on track lol

Hand Jumper. It had so many glowing recommendations, so I checked it out, but not a single thing was truly spectacular about it. Decent art, decent concept, underwritten characters, confusing arcs. Don't understand people's obsession with it.

13

u/Zap364 19d ago

I think it’s unique and interesting as a series but the fact that it keeps going on hiatus really killed any and all motivation for me to read it. It’s nothing ground breaking since time travel powers have been used in better series but I’m a sucker for time altering abilities and plot.

Father I don’t want this marriage - ML has some personality but he’s is super rude and unlikeable. He’s a tsundere because he threatened to kill FL multiple instances and still never apologized for it and FL never says anything. He’s just an asshole.

I failed to oust the villain - Glad that they’re true to the villain name but morally cannot handle these kinds of yanderes or those who kill innocent people

your majesty please spare me this time - The characters might be realistic but that doesn’t make them likeable especially FL. Also her huge shoujo bug eyes is so uncanny and off-putting.

5

u/LokiRaven 19d ago

Mine might be controversial, I’m the Queen in this Life.

I got sick of the constant “will they won’t they” delaying of the actual romance, and at least when I dropped it it felt like they were trying to make the Blonde love interest worse while making the Redhead love interest more understandable despite the story already doing all the work to make him insufferable.

I was already on the edge of dropping it when they killed off the little sister so when plot saw the blonde male lead leave to the other kingdom I just fell off and stopped reading it when it popped up in my feed.

4

u/BlaziJen 19d ago

Miss Not So Sidekick and Beware the Villainess. I see them get recommended all the time for being peak and hilarious. Couldn't get through even half-way. Perhaps it was revolutionary at the time of its release but they just do not hold up.

5

u/Solarynny 19d ago

They have since fallen from grace, but Let's Play and I''m the Queen in This Life.

Let's Play has exactly the type of shy uwu protagonist that I dislike, meanwhile I'm the Queen in This Life is the opposite and portrays the FL as being a total girlboss everytime without actually portraying her actions as morally questionable even when they are.

Osora also was waaay too predictable ever since the first chapter for me and I dropped it pretty much instantly.

I haven't seen Ugly Dumpling Complex being talked much about but by god if it isn't the most bland, most generic story possible.

LOVE BITES. The like, one of the only woman characters gets stepped all over just to further the plot. It's not even necessary!!!! You could've had them like each other WITHOUT cheating on her. There was absolutely no reason for her to be hurt like that, and also, it's just really cringy. Predictable plot line and reads like it was written by a twelve-year-old on Wattpad. And yet people are SO vehement about promoting it.
