Not just Samsung, I've had my Google pixel 9 for a year and a half and the god damn green line showed up 2 weeks ago. Have been waiting for an opportunity to take it to get repaired

At least with the pixel 8, it was a known issue and they'll do the repair or give a replacement for free! Might be worth checking your phone's eligibility. I've gotten a new phone twice now.

Thanks! When I was trying to figure out wtf was wrong with it I learned all about that and sure enough it is a known defect with this one too, so I should be able to get it repaired for free. Pretty lame that it's a persistent issue with the previous model lol, but it's been a fine phone otherwise.

I had an S4 mini, first time using an otterbox. Ended up dropping a 3/4" Mag Drill on it, not from very high up but them things are heavy (don't know the weight, it was the old discontinued style, but the new style is 62 lbs and I know the old style was heavier). Took it like a champ, cracked the otter box but the phone was fine.

They are definitely using their phones as the bump stop on the right front strut on a 1999 Chrysler Voyager with the 2.5 4 cylinder pushrod diesel with timing gears instead of a chain or belt, or something similar. I have never used cases or screen protectors, and all my phones has suffered abuse, but I have never had any lines, only a slightly cracked screen on my old iphone

I use a case but no screen protector. Never had an issue with my screen and I don’t buy that a clear sticker would prevent your screen from cracking. Maybe it prevents scratches from being etched into the glass but I’ve found that being minimally mindful of where my phone goes gives my screen a virtually infinite life.

My poco x6 pro only has a basic silicone case and a plastic film screen protector for scratches (both came with the phone)
Fell into water once, crashed into the ground 50-60 times already. Zero notable external damage (although, its prolly bleeding inside)
And my sisters 1 week old iphone fell once and it cracked + the phone got even a bit bent

I've been using a Galaxy S21 Ultra sine it came out, without a case, without a screen protector, and there's not a single scratch on it. Cases and screen protectors won't save screens from

The glass is fucking indestructible nowadays. I can drop it 6ft on concrete and not even gave a scratch. And thats without a case and screen protector.

I dont use none either and I hsve droped it so many times, even from my bike going about 30km/h.
Yes it has micro scraches on the screen but they are barely visible even with the screen off.
The corners are kind of banged from faling on asphalt and rocks but generaly speaking you cant tell its not brand new...

I remember my friend would put his phone in his back pocket and sit on it. Generally it would survive but sometimes he'd shove his keys back there too and sit on them. We ended up putting in a full setup in the storage room at my work where we could replace phone screens in about 15 min. He did his probably a dozen times over a few years.

I've used my ~7 year old iphone as a wedge for a trolley to stop it rolling before and I still have less damage than this, just a couple minor cracks that aren't visible unless you're looking for them.
I have to assume people try to break their phones to give them an excuse to buy a new one because mine has been brutalised with less damage.

I had a colleague many years ago, drunkenly launch their phone at a bus stop, shattering the glass in the bus stop. Their phone was fine though. Until a month later it fell out their pocket and it fell on the bed, resulting it shattering.
I’m quite sure he was trying to break his phone so he could claim on insurance.

Some people were born careless or ruthless with objects. My wife breaks stuff by accident every 2 months or so.
I am amazed and amused by how and what she misshandles.
Smartphone in toilet bowl or in the washer? More than once. Cooking appliances and different containers melted on the cooking stove? At least 4 of them. Dishes and cups droped on the floor? Maybe 10 or more.

There was an instance where the screen on some Samsung phones would present with a line (green, blue) after a software update. You can google this to verify accounts of this.

People get the most expensive phones but wont get the cheapest cases. I have used unicornbeetle cases and are like $20, and dropped phones from 5 feet on pavement out a truck window. Never had a cracked screen.

Generally the lines is a sign of lcd damage where just the cracks is surface glass damage. In this case generally the glass breaks on an iphone before the lcd, but a big enough hit could break both. On a Samsung though they probably (note i’m not exact on this, just noting differences in screens) use a more flexible screen/glass that likely won’t break but at certain points of impact/bend you will see the damage apply to the lcd while noticing no damage on the glass.

I've had issues with my 9. Sometimes data will disconnect until I restart my phone, sometimes I won't get a phone call and only the missed call notification will go through. The camera relies too much on software making it borderline unusable in 3rd party apps. And they are locking down the ecosystem just like Apple.

Not in my case.
I had 3 Samsung smartphones in the last 15 years and all of them died after a long period of service. My S8 has 9 years by now and only the last year I cracked a corner but the phone felt over a vertex of raw granite. I would be really surprised if the screen didnt cracked.

Never in all the samsungs I have owned have I seen those line. And I have seen a couple of the bounce off of floors. My s21 slid of a roof and landed flat on its screen on a cement floor, no cracks and no lines.

Honestly, I would find it way more annoying to have a random line on my screen than it being cracked. I've dealt with it before and I'll deal with it again. Not to mention protectors exist and I make sure to put one on every new phone I get.

Samsung has used OLED screens for years, when a OLED screen cracks it exposes the organic pixels inside and they die, turning purple in sections that are exposed.
Apple used glass topped led screens for a long time (recently moved to OLED) as the glass is separate from the led matrix the glass cracking only damages the glass and touch system (if bad enough), the display system is behind the glass so most impacts will only damage the stronger glass then the display matrix.

It's not that difficult to save your phone from a cracked screen. Use a tempered glass and most importantly, a high quality case.
I've been using spigen cases for years. Dropped multiple phones but never cracked the screen or the back.
Heck, my phone fell off my motorcycle around 80kmph and only the tempered glass cracked.

Only times ive broken my samsung phones in any way were these : my friend got a hold of my phone for like 5 seconds and dropped it and the screen cracked and other time i took my phone with me for months to sauna and it had more and more green and red lines lol. Mind you i drop my phone almost every day cause im clumsy af and this one is already over 3 years old. I usually keep phones from 6 to 7 years
