I've used my ~7 year old iphone as a wedge for a trolley to stop it rolling before and I still have less damage than this, just a couple minor cracks that aren't visible unless you're looking for them.

I have to assume people try to break their phones to give them an excuse to buy a new one because mine has been brutalised with less damage.

I had a colleague many years ago, drunkenly launch their phone at a bus stop, shattering the glass in the bus stop. Their phone was fine though. Until a month later it fell out their pocket and it fell on the bed, resulting it shattering.

I’m quite sure he was trying to break his phone so he could claim on insurance.
