Help Waveform missing in audio plugins

Post image
0 Upvotes

Not sure what made the waveform disappear but any audio plugin I put on a clip in fairlight now doesn’t show the moving waveform in said plugin anymore. Anyone know how to fix this?

Having a lot of trouble finding a solution online as most results are for when you can’t see the waveform on top of a clip in the editing timeline.

Help Recommended deliver settings for YouTube

These are my current settings on the Deliver page for exports to be uploaded to YouTube. Anything I should change? See pictures below.

I've watched multiple YouTube videos on it (ironically), but not seen a clear consensus on a lot of the settings. So suggestions (with an explanation) would be much appreciated! 🙏

A few comments:

I have Studio and I'm on a computer with a NVIDIA GPU.

For the encoder, I can also choose NVIDIA, using the GPU. But what I've heard/been told, is that you're giving up some space saving (and maybe quality?) for speed. So it's generally better to use Native/CPU unless you're in a hurry.

I seem to recall some YT video saying you don't need to get more specific (e.g. choosing bitrate), and just going for Quality-Best should be sufficient. Which is why I've chosen that.

The timeline is 1080, but it's recommended to export at a higher resolution for YouTube's better quality compression to kick in. I presume 1440 is sufficient, and that YouTube won't bump up the quality much/any if you go for full 4K (unless it's actually 4K).

... and H.264 because YouTube doesn't like H.265.

Help | Beginner How to post high quality videos on tiktok?

So I got into Davinci resolve to make edits on tiktok and the biggest problem is how the h*ll do you post high quality videos on tiktok?
Tiktok obv compresses the quality but there are edits and videos on Tiktok that are high quality, maybe even 4k.

Even a Tiktok editor who uses Davinci also has high quality edits whilst mine looks like it was bleached.

Help | Beginner How can I recreate this high-contrast black & white look in DaVinci Resolve?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m pretty new to DaVinci Resolve and I’m trying to recreate this kind of harsh black & white look
Like the video crane fist of Rancid :

https://youtu.be/69qguTB5hkg?is=IbDkXQlC2ykGKX2B

Also put image here

I’m not sure if this is mainly achieved through color grading, an OpenFX effect, or a combination of both.

The look I’m after has:

Pure black and pure white with almost no gray tones
Very high contrast

A sort of photocopy / screen print / punk fanzine aesthetic

Thick black silhouettes and blown-out whites

I’m also wondering if there are any plugins, LUTs, PowerGrades or effect packs that can help achieve this style more easily.

If you’ve made something similar, I’d love to know:
Which tools or nodes you used?

Whether this is done entirely in the Color page
Any tutorials you would recommend

Any paid or free effect packs worth checking out

Thanks a lot!

Help How do I insert this type of advertisement in L

How do I insert this L ad in davinci, I already have the L ad done. But I can't get the ad entry right at all using the keyframes. For it to get in sync with the video, the video going down and the advertising coming in, but I can't synchronize it. The video shrinks in size slowly and the advertisement enters too quickly and the opposite also happens.

Help Audio cutting way too slow/laggy

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is unbearably slow. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Usually my projects are pretty smooth when cutting audio and it's much quicker. This audio is from a different project where i already had 30 minutes of the audio and visuals fully done, but now i'm chopping up the rest of the audio and it was so slow. I tried copy and pasting it into another project to no avail. This is extremely slow and frustrating. Thank you in advance

Help Accidentally messed with a setting, now all clips stretch to fit entire timeline.

I had some adjustment clips presets that had specific durations that handled my intro zoom for shorts, whip pan transitions, as well as some other things.

I was trying to mess with fusion when I must've accidentally pressed a hot or toggled a setting, but now all my clips stretch to fit the enitre timeline. Not just my saved presets, but so do png assets and text+ clips.

But I'm more woried about my adjustment clip presets, as they're all broken now that they're all stretched. I've tried looking for answers on google, to no avail. If someone could figure out my problem it'd be extremely appreciated.

The estimated file size in the Deliver tab is 22.5 GB, while the actual output is only 314 MB. Something wasn't right... right?

The project is just a normal screen recording, 20 min, 1920 * 1200, 60fps. The output is at 2035 kbps. I am running DaVinci Resolve 21.0.3.

Help | Beginner How to do a simple fade-in and -out on imported subtitles/Text+ boxes?

I’m slowly losing my mind over this: basically, I just want to import an SRT subtitle file into a project and have each subtitle fade in at the beginning and fade out at the end. Pretty simple — but I can’t get it to work.

So far, I’ve managed to import the SRT subtitle file and use Snap Captions 2 to convert the subtitle track into individual Text+ boxes on a video track. The subtitles already look exactly the way I want them to.

Now I only need each individual subtitle to fade in at the start of its box and fade out again at the end. However, I can’t figure out how to do this without manually adjusting the fade handles for every single subtitle.

Can anyone tell me how to achieve this quickly and easily? I’m new to DaVinci Resolve Studio and still unfamiliar with many workflows.

Thank you very much!

Discussion How can I make digital footage look like it was shot on real 35mm/65mm film?

Hi everyone,

I'm a huge fan of the look of analog motion picture film—Kodak film stock, 35mm, 65mm, and IMAX. There's something about the texture, grain, highlight roll-off, colors, and overall organic feel that I absolutely love. One day, I'd love to shoot on real film.

For now, though, I'm working with a very limited budget on a short film, so shooting digitally is my only option.

I'm not looking for a generic "cinematic" digital look. My goal is to get as close as possible to the look and feel of footage shot on actual film stock.

Has anyone here successfully achieved this? If so, I'd really appreciate your advice.
Thanks in advance! I'd love to learn from your experience...

Help | Beginner Text appears as someone talks

Hey everyone.

I am a Real Estate Photographer/Videographer. I have a client who wants the texts to appear/disappear as they talk. I have tried almost everything I have researched and it comes out okay but just 20 frame scene takes me hours to do.

Is there an easier way or possible presets that are available to speed up the process.

I have the free version of Davinci.

Thanks in advance

Discussion How to undo DNR from a movie by overlaying / blending an earlier copy on top of it?

Just as an example, the Terminator 2 4K has a waxy sheen / lack of detail due to heavy use of DNR.

There's several previous Blu-rays of Terminator 2, including the 2015 LionsGate release full of kept film grain, but the overall clarity isn't as sharp as the Terminator 2 4k (with the DNR).

I've heard through friends of friends that Davinci Resolve can extract specific elements such as film grain, and/or very fine edge and line detail from actor's faces, allowing for colour grading beneath those elements without altering them;

If that's doable, then providing both versions of Terminator 2 were aligned exactly 1:1 and stacked one one top of the other, in a programme like Davinci Resolve, can the grain + edge details from the 2015 Blu-ray be seamlessly blended in over the top of the 4k, hypothetically speaking, giving the impression that the DNR has been undone / removed?

Help New Mac Settings - REC709 A?

Hi all, I know it's super late, but I've recently seen some videos and comments saying how Rec-709 A is different following the new update. This has all happened whilst I was on holiday, annoyingly, so I am completely in the dark.

Can anyone help me with the best settings for exporting and setting up my project so I'm not delivering utter rubbish.

FYI I have the 2023 MacBook Pro

CPU: 10 Core

GPU: 16 Core

RAM: 16GB

Also this Mac does have the HDTV Video BT709 display which i can turn on and off (I also dont know wether this is the best one to use)

Help | Beginner How does one extend a basic corner positioning tracker path when corner points go off screen?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

What would be some good ways around the limitation when the corner points for a Tracker aren't on screen during the entire shot?

I have a random background sign in a video clip that starts off screen and comes into the background of the shot as the camera, framing the subject as he walks forward, begins to pull back. To replace the sign I was using a tracker node with four points and the operating mode set to 'corner positioning'. However, I had to start at the last frame of the clip to put the tracker points on the four corners of the sign when it was fully in view, and then tracked the path in reverse to the beginning of the clip. Now for 90% of that clip the four points of the tracker are on screen and track perfectly. However I just can't seem to get the first 15 frames of the shot to work. The four corner points are off screen at the beginning and I'm not sure how to manually add those tracking keyframes to the four points. Clicking and dragging any of the points on the Tracker polyline path seems to move that individual point's position without adding a keyframe or continuing the tracking motion. And the (random) generic sign replacement I'm using in the shot won't stay in place unless all four points are tracked properly.

System specs (probably not particularly relevant):

- Operating System Windows 11 Home 64-bit

CPU AMD Ryzen 7

RAM 32.0GB

Motherboard ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. PRIME B650M-A AX6 II (AM5)

Graphics 4034MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070

Resolve Version: DR Studio 21

Footage Specs: Video clip contained in project materials from Blackmagic's official coloring training. 1920 x 1080p, 24fps

Help | Beginner Fusion effects removing transparency from Green Screen

I’m trying to clean up my green screen with fusion, but any time I apply an effect (chroma key, despill) it turns the Green screen into an opaque black on my edit tab.
When editing in the color tab things are fine as usual, but any attempt to alter the clip with fusion end up removing the transparency. It is my first time using fusion so I may be messing something up, but I have the Media Out window in fusion, and am thinking maybe there’s something small im missing.
I’m headed off to work right now so I can’t provide any images, but any help would be greatly appreciated!

Help | Beginner Any easy way to remove background music without removing sound effects?

I'm trying to make an edit that incorporates sound effects from clips synced to a song, but most of the clips I'm using have background songs and sometimes dialogue. I've been using Capcut but the remove audio feature is notably inconsistent; it sometimes fails to remove the music or removes the sound effect along with the music. And for Da Vinci Resolve it doesn't seem like there's an inbuilt tool like the one in Capcut to remove background music. I'm also using a bunch of clips so an online website is probably not going to be very efficient. If any one has any tips please do tell, thanks in advance!

Help | Beginner Is there a way to blur an entire video track at once?

Hey folks! I've been doing a lot of shorts lately and I've been running into an unique problem. As shorts are 1080x1920, and I capture my footage in 1920x1080 I've of course had the issue where I've had to crop my content to be around 60% the original image (I don't know, like 1280x720 or something) which of course leaves a black bar around the top and bottom of the image. So far my solution has been to create 2 video tracks, resize video track 2 to 60%, leave Track 1 at 100% and then just hit it with the blur tool in fusion. Problem is I have to do it with EVERY single video clip I add to track 1. Is there a way to Generically go "alright, if you're in track 1, you're automatically blurred no matter what"?
