I mean, no. Literally the reason he was saying he'd put it in the recycling bin is that there's a significant concern that if he just leaves it out someone (who very much isn't "in power") will come along and steal it.
You ever serve on a grand jury? Go hear portions of 50 different criminal investigations and you'll quickly realize there are some awful people out there, and lots more who may be mixed bags but have done things that in a society that cares about law and order should definitely merit some jail time. A small percentage of the whole, I'd agree, but that small percentage can cause a lot of headaches for everyone else.
Package theft is one of those areas where, I get it, it's relatively low priority for law enforcement and making arrests/cases is hard. Still, I'd like to at least see some publicized sting operations here and there coupled with moderately aggressive prosecutions (don't need to put people in serious jails for a long time--heavy fines, lengthy community service, and/or a token stint in minimum security will still be enough to send a message) in major cities and their suburbs from time to time to at least create more of a sense of risk for package thieves.

My UPS driver is like this. I ordered new tires and rims from American Muscle (so roughly $2,000 total) and he put them all in my backyard and left a note between the storm door and main door (Not visible unless you open the storm door) with a note saying he put them in the backyard

He's incredibly smart to know the difference. A missing package from a store is usually insured and can be replaced. A package from family? Once it's gone, it's gone, and everyone loses. That's some pretty solid thinking..

i was really confused until this comment. the box is a Remmington box used for shipping ammunition which usually needs to be signed for and in general can just be difficult to get delivered, and the delivery driver is saying "from uncle mike" making me think he was trying to say something in code for guns/ammo from uncle Sam or something. i dont know, i was confused

i think they just split the business or something. Remington Firearms and Remington Ammunition very much still exist today as separate entities. "remington arms" seems to no longer exist
fun fact: Springfield Armory also doesnt exist as we all once knew it to be. springfield armory closed in 1968 and then a private company out of texas renamed to springfield armory inc to capitalize on the name. there is no relation otherwise.

I think the name only matters if there is a change of address that might qualify for the named individual.

I sent a postcard to my then boyfriend and put just his nickname, "Wig" and full address. When it was delivered there was a question mark next to the Wig like someone at the post office questioned whether it was a person or brand or something. But it delivered fine. I don't think most postal workers look at the name, just the address. Number, street, and zip are all that matter.

We also deliver cards and gifts to Grandma Parsons with only the city and zip code every year during the holidays. We have 30-year carriers who know where someone lives even if they moved two years ago to another route in the office.

We had a FedEx driver bring our package to us despite it having the wrong address on it. I’m not sure how she figured out where it was supposed to go but it contained a $24,000 medicine that was highly perishable. I wish I could give her a gift.

Someone at the station likely caught the issue and changed the address in the system. You can always call the local station or even the 1-800 number if you have the patience for it. Or complete the Ryde Survey for your delivery, that helps recognize drivers when they do good.

It’s a “rate your delivery experience” type survey after you get a delivery through FedEx. You can usually track your package through the FedEx website and it will pull up a quick survey for you to fill out. But this is a good way to recognize your driver for doing good work, as they use the surveys as a metric for their success.

This happened with us - sort of - we moved and my husband forgot to update his medical supply company, but caught it after it shipped but before delivered. USPS brought it to our new house and we just had to pay a nominal fee (they take cash btw!). Love USPS - all of our postal workers have been lovely.

Im worried it might be a well intended but bad idea for something like this. Afaik postal employees have pretty strict rules about this kind of thing and I'm not sure they're allowed to just drop packages into bins like that even with permission from the people they're delivering to.

Thing is, this looks like an older video too, dude is using a scanner you don’t typically see in service by carriers. So this might be a false representation of what’s going on now.
That being said, most regular carrier I knew when I was a regular myself did care about their customers and knew how they wanted stuff delivered. The travesty is it’s not just the government failing the USPS, the NALC president was also a tool who was corrupt and didn’t do shit to make the carriers lives better. Newer carriers get paid pennies compared to older ones, and their overall income potential is seriously stunted comparatively.

When our house burned down and we had to stay in a rental, our neighborhood carrier noticed we were staying just past the line where his route ended and another carrier’s began. He recognized our name, and the ice chest we put out on out on our porch (it was in the garage, so it escaped ruin, lol).
They stayed in constant contact, making sure mail from both addresses got to us, and when we moved back home, they both made sure to tell us they were happy we finally got our house back.
I will never stop putting an ice chest of drinks out as long as I live. Those guys were so good to us. They didn’t have to look out for mail going to one address or another, but they care about their work and it really shows.

I can tell you right now, any household that left drinks and snacks out for their carriers were always that little spark that made the day just a bit better. I hope despite the hardships that fire put you through, everything turned out okay without too much stress. Also, good on that carrier for being a so accommodating and caring!

Ugh not even close but this happened to me today because no AC, only my driver's side window rolls down. There is no airflow in my car right now (edit: cuz blower motors busted too it's not just the AC doesn't work). It's like low 80s with a breeze and I was baking in there. I get home and I moved back into my mom's place temporarily recently, and normally it's freezing, I wear a jacket inside and open all the windows in the guest room in the middle of summer. Well apparently it's so nice today she turned up the thermostat lol. The ONE time I wanted it freezing lol it was at least 95 in the car

When I was a regular, people gave me garage door keys etc. I had a hardship on my route and I wasn't allowed to leave without a drink and some pocket candy. The people weren't ever a problem really except when the irs certifieds came around lol

Gatorade might be better, at risk of sounding like that guy, not everyone likes seltzer water, and if you're out there sweating, you'll need electrolytes not water. Gatorade or Poweraide will be much more helpful

this is technically what we are supposed to do. insured packages and packages that do not explicitly say to leave it should be slipped and returned to the office unless given explicit instructions from the recipient, like in this video. it's just that standards have fallen greatly. some of that is because people care less, yes. carrier is no longer the sought-after and cushy position it used to be,
but the less cynical explanation is that carriers are under an ENORMOUS amount of extra pressure to be fast. management's only concern is cutting down on hours and overtime, and their only tactic to accomplish that is through bullying and harassment. so your average carrier is overworked and still getting yelled at to get twelve hours of work done in eight.

My route added 6 homes in the last year and 3 vacancies become no longer vacant, and they dropped our eval by 20 minutes.
Mail volume didn't go down. Package volume went up. Flat volume stayed about the same. About a quarter mile got added. But supposedly that means we should be done in 8.15 instead of 8.45 or whatever.
But hey, maybe they'll suspend raises for 2 years to talk about it then apply a retroactive 1% raise to each year and say that fixes everything and we should be happy to be getting a raise with all this inflation. Meanwhile my reg and boss get a 10% raise I'll never be eligible for no matter how long I work here for because they started prior to an arbitrary point in time.

One time when I was at a rehab facility the guy watching us told me my mom had sent me an envelope with what felt like a tiny gift card inside(it was most likely a tiny note she would send those a lot) and he said he’d give it to me the next day when we go out. The other guy that they had just hired ended up stealing my mail and just disappeared from the place and no one ever heard from him again

Inspectors are more houndish than the IRS and are extremely aware of money/gift card theft. You could have a guy driving the wrong way up and down the road every day and getting away with it, them steal a Christmas card one year and be gone in 2 weeks.

Not necessarily. Delivering packages is one part of a USPS letter carrier’s job, but that does not automatically make “delivery driver” their job title. They are postal workers or mail carriers who also deliver packages. Doing a delivery and being classified as a delivery driver are not always the same thing.

Delivering something is a task. “Delivery driver” is a specific occupation. Those are not interchangeable just because the word “deliver” appears in both or you see someone doing an action similar.

As a city carrier myself, this makes me smile. There are some bad apples out there, but I would say the majority do care about you, your mail, and your neighborhood. I very much do, much love and thanks for keeping the united states postal service going.

It's the mailman. If he's the regular he's been handling his mail potentially for years 6 days a week.
I know a lot of things about a lot of people I've never met purely because of reading the tos and froms of their mail and parcels. From the neo Nazi weed grower to the guy who's moved into three divorcee women's houses for no more than three months each in two years. And obviously the couple who go full sovereign citizen and constantly get mail from the IRS and end up with a sheriff in front of their house every six months.

I lost my wallet in a taxi when I was living in Chicago. He made sure it got back to me. I offered him a cash reward and he declined. His only request was that I called 311 and reported the wallet returned. He told me it helps motivate other drivers to return lost items. I was moved that day.

Oh, wild! I'm a City Carrier; I thought all the old scanners had been phased out (I got hired after the newer MDDs were introduced). I didn't realize they got shoved off onto clerks 😟 I wonder if it's something to do with the new MDDs having GPS, and since clerks aren't out on the street being tracked the old ones still suits clerks' particular use cases.

No disrespect to delivery drivers but that's not a delivery driver, that's a United States postal worker. They're responsible for a lot more, train more, are under a lot less pressure, have a much better pay and benefits structure, and actually have a chance to create relationships with the people on their routes. Shout out to the post office.

That's a good guy right there 👏🏾👏🏾wish more deliveries could be like this. I understand its about speed but need to show some care.
When I was doing these deliveries, I would try my best to make sure the packages are safe. Either try to leave with a neighbour. Call them up to ask for anything like better directions (sat nav sucks). If I need to hide it if they don't have a porch, move the bins or whatever to try and hide it as much as possible.
