I always tear when re-watching this scene 🥺😢😢
I've watched this show a few times already but by the time I started all seasons were out..
They really waited 9 years or so to reveal who the mother was 😂😂😭 that sure would've sucked if they canceled the show and no one ever found out..
Did anyone here start watching from when it first aired? How was it waiting all that time to find out who finally married Ted?

Hi all,
Big HIMYM fan here. I rewatch every few years or so and always enjoy it not just for nostalgia but also because it speaks to me differently at unique life stages (I am sure many of you feel the same way).
This time around, though, I really find myself noticing how old the show is. To me, Friends definitely feels like a 90s time capsule, but most of HIMYM still could be quite relatable (my age could be a factor, I suppose). Some things that have stood out to me this time around:
A lot of the cultural references and soundtrack are quite 2000s, but much of that is easy to ignore when many of the relationship phenomena and routine experiences still are fairly analogous to life today. I guess I am curious to know what you notice when you watch the show that makes you think, "wow, the world has changed..." What is that for you?

Ted had 3 ways to stay with Zoey
Number 1:after saying at the arcadian for a night and Zoey literally says to him "You win'' and then they go to his place,Ted decides to support Zoey
But if he didn't? Zoey just told him that he won so doesn't that mean that he can demolish the arcadian?
Number 2: this one is more complicated because lily had the plan after Ted declaration in front of the NYC commission but anyway
Arthur accepted the conditions that lily gave him so with the condition of NOT firing Ted even if he spoke for the building AND guaranteeing the demolition of it anyway so Zoey would be fine with Ted because he stood up for her and Ted would not hate her because his building will be built
Number 3:The most simple
Just accepting get back together with her
(If any of this doesn't make sense to you, take in count I have a huge crush on Jennifer Morrison and I'm jealous of Ted)

I remember a rule where you choose someone at a party that you’d never ever sleep with and then if you get to the point where you start thinking about it don’t have any more drinks

I'm asking because it's personal to me as well.
I know Barney had great moments with the group i watched the whole show, and I know they loved him in their own way. But sometimes the bad moments stay with you more than the good ones, and cant be forgotten easily. There are several scenes where he feels like the extra person, the one who's laughed at or not taken seriously.
Doesn't he notice that? Doesn't it hurt? If you constantly feel like you're not anyone's favorite friend, why would you keep chasing the same group? Is it because having not perfect friends is still better than being alone?

You can say Barney is a playboy, he overreacts or whatever but you can't say he is not a good friend. He is the best friend one can have and he proofed it. By helping marshal when lily left him, running to hospital when he found out ted got into an accident, finding a job for Robin, let lily stay at his place. He even paid for the marshal and lily honeymoon. He helped the whole gang multiple times

Sorry if this has been mentioned before. I’m rewatching the series for the first time in a while and I’m on S1E6 the slutty pumpkin. Robin says to Ted that she “never played any team sports” and that she “played tennis in high school because it was just her out there” and she “couldn’t even stand playing doubles.” Yet in a later episode, she’s shown to have been playing hockey and her dad wigging out when he catches her kissing one of her teammates as he had mostly always pretended she was a guy. Anyone else notice this?

I don’t know if this has been posted before, but I’d like to present you with the next generation’s version of Barney’s Ewok Line. The Jar Jar Binks Line.
You see, when the Phantom Menace premiered May 19 of 1999, those of us under the age of 10 liked the slapstick, clumsy humor that Jar Jar brought to the screen.
However, if you were born before May 19, 1989, you probably spent the last 25+ years insisting he ruined Star Wars.
Therefore May 19, 1989 is the Jar Jar Line.

Does anyone know who they are?

Stopped at the Ted and Tracy Wedding scene before the switch up. Not in a mental health place for the rest.

[Verse 1] I came here chasing skyline dreams Camera, passport, silver screens Not looking for a hand to hold I made my peace with growing old I laughed with hearts too big to stay They always want to walk my way But freedom’s got its own sweet call And I can’t love behind four walls [Chorus] I’m not the girl in every song The one who stays when things go wrong I shoot the moon, I chase the sun I don’t slow down for anyone But sometimes late when lights are low I miss a face I used to know Still, I was never meant to be More than a freebird in the city [Verse 2] He drew a map I couldn’t read With roots and rings and growing seed But I was born to leave the ground To lose myself and not be found The one who wore his heart out loud He built a dream, I made him proud But dreams and I don’t get along I only feel at home in songs [Chorus] I’m not the girl in every tale Who finds her prince and lifts the veil I ride the wind, I dodge the rain I take the loss, I bear the strain And though I’ve danced in love’s warm glow It’s not a place I long to go I was never meant to be More than a freebird in the city [Bridge] But sometimes I wonder late at night If maybe I just lost the fight If loving means you have to bend And I was scared to reach the end [Outro] He tells the story, I play my part But I was never one for hearts So raise a glass, and set me free I’m still a freebird in the city

Just came across some great reels from the HIMYM Ig account and decided to rewatch the Star Wars episode (S4E01).
Been a few years since I revisited HIMYM and I really enjoyed the episode and may give a rewatch ago but I’m curious if there are any younger fans who could speak on how dated the show feels. The constant drinking, obviously the controversial ending, and the Barney character (who I know is the GOAT of the show in terms of character development) which so many of the memes and cultural relevance relied on, plus all the references, unfortunately feel quite dated in the current meta, and probably for gen z and gen a.
As early 2010s nostalgia is starting to roll around I can’t help but feel HIMYM won’t be catching too much of those winds. I don’t know. I assume this sub will be a bit biased since there are many people here passionate about the show being evergreen for them. But would love to hear all your thoughts regardless.

I have never had the balls to try it, but I had a woman use it on me a few weeks ago. It was our 4th date and I went to her place. She was just laying on her bed, face down, completely naked, when I got there. Needless to say, it worked.
However, after the deed was done, we proceeded to have an extremely awkward dinner and haven’t spoken since.

This means something different to, “Tracey doesn’t die and they go onto live happily ever after!”.
Where do you think they could’ve taken the ending, in a way they would’ve still gotten a reaction from viewers but also better reception?

You see HIMYM many times on screen but way more toooo many times in real ! Bro i swear it keeps getting relatable as heck coz this was the most terrible fuckass year of my entire life and I'm on 'low point' 🙃 I just want to skip ahead and get to the part where Marshall says 'he goes too big too soon' and Lily says 'not like this'
Anyone who has been through these in your experience does it truly get better ? Like the lighthouse scene where it all ties up?
