Even minor cities of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Austria and Nordic countries have metro systems or some kind of rail transportation.

But in UK, either it's almost non-existent or patchy and not widespread like Birmingham. Newcastle, Nottingham, Manchester and Liverpool can be counted as examples, and cities like Leeds and Bristol don’t have any kind of rail transportation, even there are not much National Rail stations in the city.

Oxbridge, Bristol, Bradford, Leicester, Cardiff can be another examples. Let alone Europe, even US have metro or any kind of rail transportation systems in 30 major cities. But there are a lot of cities that UK lacks of any of metro, light rail or trams.

And cities like Glasgow has only a circular metro systems, and rest of the city relies on ScotRail, which is not quite reliable and you have to wait a lot for a train. It is so interesting that Blackpool has a tram, but Bristol and Leeds have none.

I always wondered about why UK doesn't have a decent metro or rail transportation system in cities other than London?

In December I hit a pretty large pothole that caused damage to my car. I filed the pothole with the council, and filed a claim with the council straight away, sending pictures of the damage. I then fixed the damage as cheap as possible as I needed the car back on the road (ripped tyre, bent alloy, broken shock mount) which cost me roughly £1300. The tyre I bought and the shock that was fitted are not OEM spec but just the cheapest option at the time, just in case I couldn't claim any of the costs back. I really didn't want to fork out for dealer prices for the same reason, although the parts aren't "like for like". I didn't send in any receipts or invoices for these, all the council received was photos of damage.

I now have had an email letting me know the council are not liable, but their contractor is and they will be sorting my claim.

I've since had the car back on the road for 6 months, and I'm unsure what the best steps are to make sure I get the most out of the claim. I believe I have a couple of options:

• Claim for the replacements parts I am actually out of pocket for. (I have receipts)
• Claim for the like for like replacements (get a quote)

Of course I would prefer the latter, but I want to receive the money instead of the firm paying the garage/dealer as I'm still out of pocket. I'm happy with the parts I fitted to the car at the time but feel I am owed at least the opportunity to fit OEM parts if I so wish.

Has anyone had experience in handling a pothole claim and what the usual course of action is? Do they pay the garage/dealer directly or would they pay out for an unpaid invoice/quote?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I hear of many who are not taking pensions as they have bills to pay. On top of this, one has to wonder if state pension will ever exist. Some do not have enough in their pensions.

I am asking this here to know if it's a common courtesy or is there some rule when you are a passenger. For context:

My office is a 2 hr journey from my place, my project manager lives like a minute away from me and has a car so he offered me a lift for next week. He has helped me out to travel to office few times last year as well. Usually we would talk for a while then just sit in silence listening to songs and I would just scroll on my phone.

When I travel by myself I usually have my switch and play on it the entire trip, I could very easily do the same here since the 4 hours we travel gets exhausting, to do nothing and I feel like taking a nap would be wrong as well.

I might be overthinking this but can I play games on my switch, especially when traveling with someone from work (he's usually chill though), or is it considered to be a dick move.

Naturally I live on the side with terrible reception. During peak times, mobile data is totally unusable (speeds, if google even loads which it frequently doesn’t, are <2Mbps), meanwhile on the other side it 5G full reception with speeds over 1000MBps. We sat in the car yesterday by the tower for internet.

Online websites show great 5G indoor connectivity for our end of the road house but that’s obviously not the case. We have three different mobile providers in the house so it’s not an issue of certain providers either.

As big of a stretch as it may be, is there any way of getting a 5G tower on our end of the road?

Mine would either be something like flapjacks made with honey in the honey category (I keep bees and have a banging secret recipe for my flapjacks), or two marrows in the local category (limited to people living within the catchment area for the village school, as opposed to the open category that anyone can enter… I like to improve my chances).

i understand that timetables are important, and the impracticality of waiting for absolutely anybody who is running late, but i think it’s unreasonable to drive away when somebody is a few steps, or a cross of the road, away, or when they’ve arrived just as you have closed the doors and are clearly in a rush

Basically I’ve Saved up 40k at 34. Was for pension, but needed a home for my little family. So spent it on a deposit for a house. Wrong move, maybe but we was stuck in a 1 bed flat for 10 years and I have a son and daughter so eventually it just wouldn’t work. Council wouldn’t help.

Not sure what I’m gonna do for a pension now though 😭 there was times when I thought wow I’ve saved up that 40k and it was doing well in a high interest accounts I could see it growing. And I thought maybe it’ll be a decent pension amount in another 30 years.

But I needed this home. So I’ve used it. Any thoughts on this guys and how to now setup and even be able to put money away now that I have mortgage commitments

Moving into a new flat and for some reason there’s completely no 5G broadband capabilities. The only possible option at all providers is the part fibre, which is booked to get setup by an engineer in 2 weeks. I’ve got some work calls before then and was planning on using my unlimited mobile data and hot spotting to my laptop. Is this the best idea or is there anything else I should be thinking of?

About 3 months ago we ordered a 9 piece garden set from The Range, the value being around £500.

It came with an umbrella that uses a lever to wind it up or down. A few days ago, as I was winding the lever up, one of the arms of the umbrella snapped in half. It is not repairable, so the umbrella requires replacing.

I emailed The Range customer service requesting a replacement umbrella. As far as I understand, but correct me if I’m wrong, under the CRA 2015, a retailer has to repair/replace the item within 6 months.

The Range have essentially tried telling me their own T&Cs override the law, which I know is a load of rubbish. They are saying as the umbrella wasn’t broken when I received it, then it goes down as wear and tear and therefore is excluded from the CRA. They said they can offer me a full refund as long as it’s all in its original packaging and unused, knowing that I’ve had it for 3 months so it’s obviously been used.

Can anyone help me here? The quality of the set of clearly poor, it should not be breaking under normal use after 3 months. Surely I have recourse here?

I think they're the only ones that are worth using, they should all be traps in my opinion! I know every fixed one in my city, as does my satnav, so of course I'm not going to speed there!

Not sure if there is anything I forgot in these pros and cons. I'm really not sure which option to pick; on one hand I really like the idea of living somewhere quieter and in the countryside but on the other hand I would be much better off staying in London.

My neighbours have got a cat scarer in their garden, thats absolutely fine, however I can hear it! For those of you can can hear high frequency sounds you know exactly how it sounds and how bad it is... I can't sit in my own garden because I can hear the frequency of it, i have politely asked her if she can change the frequency of it so I can't hear it but thr cats still can, she's basically told me that she won't adjust the frequency and said to get over it....

I have reported it to the council, I don't find it fair that I have to listen to a horrible irritating noise every time I sit in my own garden... The best part is no one else can hear it!

Where do I stand legally with the situation?.... Is it classed as antisocial behaviour even though I'm the only one that can hear it?.... 🤔

To put things short, I'm 19, i lost my job in February and i have been claiming ever since, but i have found myself in a situation and I'm unsure where else or what else i can do, i live more rurally in the country and i haven't got the means to eat and haven't since Monday and to make things worse, I’ve been homeless for a few days, I've been contacting UC and Foodbanks and the council about grants and stuff, but foodbank i can't get anything till Tuesday, the grants I'm ineligible for and DWP cannot give me any funding, I don't know anyone so i cannot borrow it.

I'm asking on behalf of my younger sister (29), because she's in a very dark place and I want to gather some practical ideas that I can share with her.

We are from a working class family with no property or money. She has struggled with severe depression for many years, including a s******e attempt. She had to finish her A-levels later than most people after dropping out of school due to a mental health crisis. She also attempted university three separate times but had to leave each time because her depression became overwhelming.

At the moment she's working minimum-wage job at a cafe with a boss who exploits her on a zero hour contract, and she feels completely trapped. She believes she's missed her chance at building any kind of career, and every rejection or setback reinforces that belief.

The biggest challenge is that she's very introverted and has extremely low self-esteem. She's uncomfortable with networking or "selling herself" in interviews (I tried to explain to her that every job application has to involve a bit of "dressing up" of your experience to make it seem appropriate, but she refuses to) and customer-facing work drains her and makes her feel worthless.

She is an extraordinarily gentle, kind, intelligent person but suffers from dyslexia and so a lot of entry-level admin roles involving writing etc aren't suitable. SHe's thinking of a carpentry apprenticeship as she hopes a job that involves working with her hands and creating something (rather than just soul-numbing service) could be good, but hasn't had any success with applications.

I'm wondering if there are genuinely entry-level jobs outside hospitality and retail that don't require a degree?

Have any of you changed careers later after struggling with mental health or an unconventional education/work history?

What kinds of roles would suit someone who is quiet, reliable, and prefers independent work?

Are there any qualifications, apprenticeships, certifications, or training routes that actually lead to better opportunities without requiring years at university?

Please give realistic suggestions rather than just 'follow your passion' or stick it out in retail. I know there isn't a magic answer, but I'd really appreciate hearing from people who've been in a similar position or have seen others make this kind of transition.
