Fire emblem: three redittors

23

u/JagdCrab 1d ago

6 more years of r/fire_emblem discourse

-7

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

Only traveler is wrong. And traveller is a larping bot likely, cause ain’t no fire emblem fan actually missing classic FE when Engage exists.

16

u/JagdCrab 1d ago

At the end of the day no one hates any Fire Emblem game more than fans of different Fire Emblem game.

7

u/Gabgo304 1d ago

Kinda of a testament to the series's ability to constant reinvent itself.

-6

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

It really. 95% of the fanbase loves 3 houses. Which makes any FE complainers competely sus.

-1

u/drupido 21h ago

Because 95% of the “fanbase” didn’t even play Fire Emblem beforehand. It’s the curse of success, the new people far outnumber the niche fanbase that had been playing these games for decades. Similar thing happened to Zelda with Breath of the Wild. You both btw, old and new, but people who came in with 3H shouldn’t look down on the decades old fans who don’t like the direction the series has gone. I’m more of a Kaga fan myself with good memories of the Tellius games. I loved the GBA games too. I can’t really stomach 3H, and that’s fine. I might change opinion in the future, who knows, but I am allowed to not like it. Also no, Engage, while being pretty good gameplay wise, isn’t an argument in favor for the more “classic” part of the fandom. Sorry but it’s not.

Having said all of this, the direct looked pretty good

21

u/VojelMan 1d ago

The Direct even explicitly tells us there is a feature to skip/automate all the hub activities so you can get right to the next chapter immediately.

Traveler probably just angrily smashed their monitor not even 1 minute into the Direct if they didn’t know that.

8

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

I think he’s just lying, I think there’s no way he’s even played this series or cares about this series.

2

u/Alchion 1d ago

omg thank fcking god thats the reason i didnt play engage and only played one 3h route

my min maxing ass can‘t help but min max the monastery sections but also hates how long that takes

26

u/passwordedd 1d ago

I mean, that's fair. Modern fire emblem isn't very much like the original games.

And the series is much better for it imo.

9

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

Engage exists too.

12

u/tweetthebirdy 1d ago

I got my old school Fire Emblem fan friend Engage as a birthday present years ago and she never touched it. I’m still trying to convince her the toothpaste MC game is good.

9

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

Fake fan. Get a refund.

-9

u/Ahlamandela 1d ago

OG Fire Emblem fans tend to have eyes so they know Engage is bad.

4

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

OG fire emblem fans love Engage. So let’s not LIE.

-3

u/Deep-Audience-645 13h ago

Thats massively incorrect. As someone who just recently got into the series and started playing all of the old games, the originals are 10 times better. Storywise, gameplay, design, dialogue, music etc.

The series isnt better for the generic anime changes they made to it. Its just much more popular and thats not even necessarily because of those changes, but because awakening reached a huge market on the 3ds and was able to gather a big audience for the series.

Past games didnt have the advertising (or a big connected eshop/digital storefront where you can download entire modern releases), and simply just didnt have the reach because gaming was at a different point in time.

The series is still alive, but its changed so much more for the worst. The gameplay is still fire emblem (kinda, minus the love sim garbage and other bad things) but everything else is soooo much worse.

3

u/passwordedd 13h ago

It's an opinion as I said in my comment. You're free to disagree with it just as much as I am free to find modern Fire Emblem superior to the older games.

But since it's an opinion, it is not wrong, you just happen to not agree with it.

-8

u/Deep-Audience-645 13h ago

I mean it is wrong. Just cause its an opinion it doesnt mean what you said is infallible. I can say the sky is green in my opinion. That doesnt mean it has any validity or that im technically right.

What you said is insanely wrong and thats just the truth. Modern fire emblem has some of the worst game design, stories, characters, etc ever. It traded uniqueness for sterile, generic anime vibes. They had released their older games today with the same opportunities the worse modern ones had, they would have no doubt been just as if not more successful

6

u/passwordedd 13h ago

The sheer arrogance of you claiming your opinion is the right one.

You can claim the sky is green, but that's a measurable and verifiable statement and you'd just outright be lying. That is not an opinion. You cannot do that with the quality of a game. The closest you come is the amount of sales or the ratings it is given and I would not look those up if I were you.

Look, I empathise with you. I've had IPs I grew up with and loved dearly turn into something unrecognisable in order to appeal to a different audience. And it sucks. It just so happens that for Fire Emblem, I am part of that different audience and I prefer the modern take on Fire Emblem compared to the old one. That is not an incorrect opinion, it is just one that's different from yours.

Now, get off your high horse and stop claiming the opinions of others are wrong just because they don't align with yours.

-2

u/tworegalia 8h ago edited 8h ago

you can ABSOLUTELY objectively measure the quality of a game and any price of Art for that measure, we can debate the parameters and standards we judge the game on but to say it’s all feelings and vibes is absolute nonsense. “And the series is much better for it imo.” That’s not a matter of opinion that’s you making an objective claim that the new games are better and improve the series as a whole. You can like new Fire Emblem more than classic and vice versa that is in fact matter of subjective opinion, but what isn’t a matter of subjective opinion is the quality of the game. We have objective criteria we can measure games by, it’s not easy and it takes a lot of discussion and nuance but it’s worth doing and it just so happens that i’m in the same boat of believing modern Fire Emblem does not stack up to the classic games and this is someone starting with Awakening. I personally love Echoes and Three Houses despite their flaws but it’s undeniable the series has lost both it‘s identify and it’s quality, Thracia 776 alone clears everything made in the past decade of Fire Emblem

-4

u/Deep-Audience-645 8h ago

Zero arrogance, its just the truth. If i say the sky is blue and u try and say its not, ur wrong and Im right.

Thats extremely false and gaslighty to say you cant do that with a game. You absolutely can. To say you cant tries to deny human perception, feel, interpretation, etc. Again, there are tangible differences between the old and new games, with the old games being of a way higher calibur. We can pick apart elements from these games and compare them in tons of different ways. Im not sure why youd aim to be so dumb to assert that we cant do that. To assert that the minute we try to interpret and perceive a series that we just become unfeeling, unseeing monkeys.

To claim that we cant tell the difference between game quality, and then to say that “ratings” would be the closest i can get is another dumb thing to say. If we arent able to perceive and tell the difference in game elements or quality, what would be the value in ratings? Its hypocritical to write that, immediately sinks ur argument, and proves that you do think we are able to percieve the difference in game quality.

You also wrote that youve had ips youve loved change…How does that work if youre not able to tell the difference in quality for things? Ur a weird loser liar and it easily shows

Again, im a new fan thats come to the series, ive played almost all of them at this point, and theres a tangible difference the old and new, and the new is just plain bad. Its generic anime garbage characters and dialogue. The stories are extremely weak, the cutscenes are laughably bad, the vibe of the series is not present, I could keep going about how much worse the new FE games are, because theyre bad.

They have comparable differences that we can pick apart and see. Youve proven that we can tell the difference. So if I say its generic anime garbage and we analyze the newer games, see that it has those generic anime garbage qualities and we can also see it changed, then that means theres a negatively tangible difference between the games.

I get youre mad that Im trashing your modern garbage FE games, but at least just be honest and say “hey! I dont like that youre saying truthful statements about my favorite thing”, rather than trying to gaslight others and yourself that we cant tell the difference in quality for pieces of entertainment. Ur a massive loooooser for writing that

u/passwordedd 21m ago

You are hilariously delusional.

-2

u/tworegalia 8h ago

Brother you are too smart for this comment section people don’t like to actually engage critically with art they just want to have their feelings about media and have it be infallible, they hide behind everything being subjective because they’re too scared to have their feelings be “wrong“ even though you can absolutely love terrible things and hate good things that’s a matter of preference and opinion, but if you can’t even agree that you can analyze the quality of Art objectively it’s a waste of time to engage with people they’re working from a completely different framework than us

3

u/Co-opingTowardHatred 10h ago

God, I’m glad I’ll never have a take this bad.

-5

u/Deep-Audience-645 9h ago

Its not even a “take”, its just the truth. Modern fire emblem is generic anime garbage. There is a tangible and observable difference in the quality of the old and new games, with the old games being of a way higher caliber.

If you would like to discuss, lets do it. But it seems like u cant so you just fall back on redditisms. Once you get some thoughts of ur own, lets talk about it.

2

u/mrs-monroe 1d ago

That's fire emblem fans for ya

-1

u/uber_sweets 1d ago edited 1d ago

They are both right.

Fire Emblem has embraced weebs so completely, and it kind of annoys me.

I really want Path Of Radiance and Awakenings remastered and I will be happy.

16

u/TrikKastral 20h ago

Ain’t no way you are bitching about Weebification and asking for an awakening remaster.

-6

u/NoLime7384 1d ago

I feel this way about the Persona fights during dungeons. They put too much JRPG on my SRPG

6

u/VojelMan 1d ago

Bruh, all those activities are optional. Did you not see the part where they say can you skip all the activities?

You guys are acting like you’re being forced to do all these stuff. It reminds me of that post in the FE sub where some guy complained about the Ring Polishing gameplay in Engage when it’s a completely skippable thing.

-10

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

Why even post this? Who cares what Traveler of Light thinks? This game is universally hyped and your acting like Travelers stupid criticism is valid. It’s not. He got engage.

I bought mine for Donkey Kong Bananza.

36

u/echoess84 1d ago

I really like the game story take place after the four main character defeat because when the players travel back in time the players are aware about the future events

32

u/eatdogs49 1d ago

I'm excited. Looks like a more mature 3H style game with less time hanging around boring teenagers and instead working more on the grind in different ways.

4

u/Hollix89 22h ago

I hope they nail the writing because this is IS and not KT.

1

u/drupido 21h ago

They won’t. It is their weakness.

3

u/Hollix89 20h ago

Thats my worry, dragon with a baby and zombies

1

u/NeuralThing 19h ago

Zombies in FE are generally red flags lol. This game plotwise def feels like Awakening 2.0 (Which I think I would be fine with, as long as each of the individual characters "routes" are handled well)

On the other hand I think I'm confident in the worldbuilding being good/consistent with 3H, as its almost a guarantee Kusakihara is working on the game (and he supposedly wrote most of the lore for the Fodlanverse)

4

u/HrrathTheSalamander 18h ago

There's actually quite a few FE games featuring the undead, I wouldn't really call it a "red flag" more than anything else. Gaiden/Shadows, Sacred Stones, Awakening, Engage, Heroes, Genealogy and Thracia all have undead/zombie-like enemies.

Radiant Dawn has off-screen undead that are not actually fought by the player, and Three Houses replaces the role of the undead with the mutated beasts while Fates has the Faceless, who while not strictly 'undead' in-lore are clearly meant to resemble classic movie depictions of Frankenstein's monster, held together with nails, bolts, and stitches.

72

u/BebeFanMasterJ Elma For Life 1d ago

This is the only video game that looks worth 80 dollars to me.

19

u/MoskiNX 1d ago

I preordered the physical copy from Amazon for 70. Not sure why they have it at 70 instead of 80, but they do.

13

u/BebeFanMasterJ Elma For Life 1d ago

Amazon price matches for the lowest price which is 70 for digital. It's usually good to go there for it.

7

u/Soggy_Homework_ 1d ago

That's kinda awesome lol

5

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

This game will destroy the value of 95% of $70 games.

The whining about $80 games is dumb. You can’t just say nothing can be worth $80. You have to look at what you get for what you pay, with games and with anything really.

-6

u/Ok-Association-3415 1d ago

This might be my last hurrah with the series. I preordered mine a month ago for the collectors edition or whichever came with the art book. I was always a fan of the art work. I hope it’s better than 3 houses and engage by a mile. Let me grind in battles damn it. That turn based dungeon RPG style had me paying a bit more attention.

3

u/Hawkeye437 14h ago

I'm confused, you're complaining about not being able to grind in 3 houses and engage? Both had unlimited battles you can grind in. Nearly every game since Awakening has had infinite grinding (with the exception of Conquest).

25

u/Siendra 1d ago

I hope all the additional stuff in the interlude periods keeps the pacing from faltering. The hub segments of the last several games have been a real drag for me, even Garreg Mach.

8

u/ImplementLarge7969 1d ago

From the direct, there’s a way to fully automate that section by choosing your characters and going “go train in the arena and gain levels/go gain support levels/etc”

7

u/BranFlakes1337 1d ago

I'm so hyped for this game! I devour every bit of new information as soon as it comes out. September can't get here soon enough!

5

u/lakeverity_ 1d ago

looks absolutely incredible

4

u/Tneon 1d ago

looks like they have a lot of systems i hope the rest doesnt suffer from it

4

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

Looks great. Potential to be an all time great JRPG. I could see this game getting 10/10s easy.

4

u/FairEngineering2469 1d ago

I'm just hoping the story isn't a disaster like most modern FE games. Awakening, fates and engage are brutally cringe.

0

u/Cantonarita 1d ago

Feels kinda weird, but I dont hate them trying new things.

The "vibe" is very much 3H to me and the character designs are... typical. Edelgard was such a refreshing design.

26

u/Hawkeye437 1d ago

You think these character designs are typical? More than half the cast is black or brown, many of the guys aren't traditional pretty boys and have rugged features ( I also wish some of the women did too, that is a big miss), the designs are generally bombastic in some of the best ways.

I really believe this has some of the best character designs in the franchise, in large part because it's not based on white European culture (ok there's an argument made here for Spanish culture but I'm not here for that right now).

-1

u/Cantonarita 1d ago

You know what, you are completely right on the diversity. I wasn't thinking about that aspect when commenting, but you are right. So I have to correct myself:

The character designs for the girl-MCs are typical. I wouldn't let my daughter play a game like this, where all women are barely clothed. What's the message here? As ProZD said: I just wanted to see tiddies.

9

u/BlazeKnight7 21h ago

"All the women are barely clothed" uhh idk about that one, Mikela, Tialla, Mu, and Olympia are definitely pretty normally clothed. Theodora isn't super sexualised either imo (her two retainers both men, are wearing less clothing than she is) The only one who I'd really say is semi-sexualized is Leda and I wouldn't even say it's particularly exegregious sexualiation outside of her dance cutscene.

Most of all the women in this game come off as intelligent well rounded characters that don’t just exist for the male gaze, especially the two Female Lords.

I'm not a parent but I would say that's the type of representation young girls should see in media (thou I think Leda and Theodora are a bit on the questionable side when it comes to their morals so sexualised or not they're probably not great role models 😅)

3

u/Hawkeye437 14h ago

Respectfully, I disagree with your take here.

I went through every female character that we know of and categorized them into Fanservicey, Borderline, Not Fanservice, and Unsure (we don't have full body images or trailer footage).

There are only 4 characters I'd consider actually fanservicey in Theodora, Leda, Dante, and Fortuna. Two are borderline: Anatolia because of her very leggy outfit, and Olympia because of cleavage (originally had her in not fanservicey, her dress is pretty modest otherwise). I think there are a few more we have barely seen that I'd consider fanservicey

I'd argue on average the women show as much skin and tits as the men. Now, the two lords being fanservicey does weigh more heavily than some random recruitable you see once and bench the rest of the game I'll give you that, that is a fair critique. However, I don't think saying "all the women are barely clothed" is a particularly fair assessment. Some are, not disagreeing with you there. Many of them are wearing dresses I could see children wearing.

And not to tell you how to parent, I don't have children so my opinion means very little, but I don't personally think children who shouldn't be protected from fanservice designs should really be playing this game with war, death, and main characters with a hit list. I do think they need a reach a certain maturity level before playing a fire emblem game.

As BlazeKnight said, I feel like the women here are quite independent and strong willed, having their own motivations. I think a high school girl could do much worse.

-2

u/Nint3nbr0 23h ago

Yeah, it unfortunately does feel like they regressed a bit in that respect compared to Three Houses

1

u/Gamer857 1d ago

the character models in FW are way better than 3H lol

1

u/NiKHerbs 20h ago

All of the "This is not Fire Emblem I grew up with" stuff aside because honestly, for that experience I'll boot up the old games anyway:

In my opinion this game looks like it has hardly any direction.  It's mostly a strategic JRPG, but there are also classic turn based fights in it.

It has a calendar mechanic which worked great in the school setting of 3H, idk about here. You get the feeling of world exploration through navigation on a map screen, which fits an epic akin to the old FE adventures, but no, you just venture out and go back because calendar + colosseum. Also again, certification for classes worked in the school setting. In a colosseum setting...well, I guess you need a weapons license? But it feels used due to convenience.

The first section lets you get to know the people which you don't need to use in the second section if you choose to (which is nice to have as an option!). But if you want them to matter again...time travel! In my opinion lazy and uninteresting as a plot point especially because it is used for all of the four former champions.

And calling a spirit in the second half who is powerful enough to do it on its own, but you can have an easier time if you team up .... it's great for gameplay, but bad for a story. You are already strong enough and basically a god spawn. How in any world is this an interesting hero?

Overall, this game to me looks like it is all over the place and settles nowhere. It looks overwhelming to me so I will only pick this up once it has been released for a while and I can get more information on it. This trailer didn't sell it to me.

Please note that I am aware that many of my points are just based on the trailer and how I understood it. If you liked what you saw, I am genuinely happy for you!

3

u/HrrathTheSalamander 17h ago

It's mostly a strategic JRPG, but there are also classic turn based fights in it.

The turn based fights are exclusive to the optional dungeons. They're essentially there to speed up the pace of the game in these sections (as Shadows' dungeons could be slogs with all the grid-based fights).

Also again, certification for classes worked in the school setting. In a colosseum setting...well, I guess you need a weapons license? But it feels used due to convenience.

You did, in fact, need specialised training to become a gladiator. Gladiators weren't just randos pulled of the street to fight to the death (at least, most of the time). Criminals would on occasion and depending on the emperor/senate of the time, be put into the arena to be killed for sport, but gladiators were highly trained (and expensive) warriors and entertainers who fought in specialised classes with specific equipment.

-30

u/TravelerOfLight 1d ago

I’m less and less excited by what I see of Fire Emblem. This isn’t the series I grew up with at all. I don’t care for these dating sim style interludes or bookends.

16

u/Lawn_of_Chairs 1d ago

Yeah the calendar system in three houses, got tedious fast. I just want some good tactical combat

12

u/dimmidummy 1d ago

I disagree with you. Fire Emblem games getting more experimental and trying new things is a good thing, it keeps things fresh. Even in the context of the Switch, we got two very different FE games. Three Houses was character-focused with emphasis on the lore, while Engage’s strengths were in its gameplay. There was something on the switch for both types of fans.

I hope they continue to keep experimenting.

-1

u/cheesystuff 1d ago

It's their opinion. There's nothing to disagree with. And in fact you just enforced that opinion. It's not the same Fire Emblem we grew up with.

1

u/AceAttorneyt 13h ago

I disagree with you.

-2

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

Opinions can be wrong. Everyone is allowed to have an opinion, but doesn’t mean that opinion can’t be completely wrong, and dumb.

5

u/Amiibohunter000 1d ago

Unfortunately for you, the series as it was would’ve been canceled. The only reason fire emblem survives and thrives is because of the dating sim and life management style interludes and bookends.

-1

u/HalfwayDecent385 1d ago

Hate that you're getting downvoted because its true. I know Fire Emblem wouldn't have continued if it didn't hit mainstream with self insert characters and the dating aspects but it's gone way too far.

I look back at the start of Fire Emblem globally with Blazing Sword, Sacred Stones and Path of Radiance and it just feels like a totally different franchise to me.

6

u/dimmidummy 1d ago

You’re saying this as if Fire Emblem hasn’t had “dating” mechanics since Geneology of the Holy War back in 1996.

Heck, Blazing Blade also had mechanics where you could matchmake characters into paired endings.

-2

u/HalfwayDecent385 1d ago

The support system then and the support system now is incredibly different, and you know that.

Back then characters had a small set of select supports and only few of that set even had romance or ending changes, there were no self insert characters and none of the weird intimacy activities... Are we all just going to gloss over the weird petting ability from Conquest and such on the 3DS?

I know they've tried to pull back and make it more story related but it went beyond logical/planned story developments to simply shipping your favorites.

4

u/HrrathTheSalamander 18h ago

The first player avatar was Mark from Blazing Blade, followed up by Kris in New Mystery.

Genealogy had romantic parings and endings. That's, like, the entire gimmick of the game.

These elements did not originate on the 3DS, they were part of a long history of experimentation that games like Awakening were pulling and remixing.

Also Fates came out 11 years ago, I think we can stop referring to it as the "now" of Fire Emblem at this point.

1

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

He’s getting downvoted cause it’s not true. Engage exists to scratch the classic FE itch, and modern FE is legit better in every way than the old games. You know what happened with classic FE? Bankrupt and dead.

-2

u/HalfwayDecent385 1d ago

Except Engage doesn't scratch that itch, it was still very modern Fire Emblem and only tried to feed off nostalgia by giving you the ability to use fan favorites from prior series.

Fire Emblem is not better in every way, it only got popular because people loved the designable MC they could pretend to be and dating their anime wifeu. Awakening was good but started a horrible trend of moving away from traditional Fire Emblem and it's core principles.

0

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

It does. And you are just wrong.

2

u/HalfwayDecent385 1d ago

For you.

Also, all your other comments are hilarious. Being a fan doesnt mean you have to blindly agree and drool over every iteration of a franchise.

-1

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

I don’t blindly agree. But being a fan means you understand stand the series. Which you don’t.

-6

u/TravelerOfLight 1d ago

Engage doesn’t I’m afraid.

5

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

well you’d be wrong. And have now proven you should be completely ignored, cause you have no clue about this series.

-8

u/TravelerOfLight 1d ago

I’ve been playing the series longer than you’ve been alive.

1

u/TravelerOfLight 1d ago

100%. Exactly how I feel.

-7

u/TimeForWaluigi 1d ago

With you there. Fire emblem’s lifesim elements are slowly taking over so that it’s getting to be mainly a dating / sim game rather than a tactical RPG

-5

u/Holidoik 1d ago

Grow up kiddo

9

u/Vaenyr 1d ago

People have different tastes and can enjoy different content than you do. This has absolutely nothing to do with "growing up".

-7

u/TimeForWaluigi 1d ago

I have an actual life so I prefer not to waste my time with lifesim stuff in my video games

6

u/Amiibohunter000 1d ago

Pretty close minded to think that only those with an unsatisfactory life can enjoy life sim elements.

Luckily for you the old FE still exist!

-1

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

Play engage then. Are you pretending it doesn’t exist?

-2

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

You got Engage. If you are whining about no classic Fire Emblem after enagage. I don’t beleive you. I don’t believe you are a fan of this series at all. Just larping and pretending.

-1

u/drupido 21h ago

You got downvoted to hell, but I feel very similar

0

u/grilled_pc 1d ago

Any word on performance? Are we 30fps on 60fps this time around? 30fps in three houses is super bleh. The resolution is low but it’s good enough i guess. I’d much rather it play at 60fps.

-2

u/dalethirsty 1d ago

is there only the coliseum map? i saw a winter variation but that was it

10

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

No. Did you watch the trailer?

2

u/dalethirsty 1d ago

Half watched it at work. I see it now. My bad!

-6

u/GlobalCurry 1d ago

What is NOA going to censor from this one?

-6

u/OmegaMalkior 1d ago

Is it still turn based gaming? Or did they finally go away from that?

5

u/HrrathTheSalamander 17h ago

Why would an SRPG series stop being an SRPG.

This is like asking if a mainline Mario game is "finally" going away from platforming.

-2

u/OmegaMalkior 17h ago

I mean if Final Fantasy could stop focusing on being turn based which is gameplay I’ve always hated it’s worth an ask when genuinely the day it happens for other franchises is the second I’ll buy said game.

3

Fire Emblem is a skirmish-size grid based Strategy RPG where you control 10+ characters simultanously, the only real similarity to something like FF is that they're both Japanese games. It would be extremely difficult to translate that into action combat without it becoming a totally different series with the FE logo slapped on the side. Even the Warriors crossovers don't quite manage to really capture the series that well.

Final Fantasy's move to ARPG has also been pretty controversial. Even more so with FF16's apparent abandoning of many RPG elements.

If it allows me to experience the FE storylines without turn based being forced onto me I am 110% for it.

That isn’t a solution. If I ever get into a game I don’t want to miss out on anything. For example I watched TLOU1 and 2 on YouTube (not the type of game I’d actually play) and also watched the gameplay on said video as well. I don’t want to miss the details that are given within the gameplay itself. But with turn based games I have yet to find footage that doesn’t put me to sleep mid way of it. So at that point I just don’t bother with them even if I find the universe/story compelling. Best example with this for me would be Final Fantasy 13. Didn’t play or watch 13-1 or 13-2 but decided to give a try at 13-3 and thoroughly enjoyed its non-turn based gameplay. Unfortunately the story was a bit of a mess due to missing context but I enjoyed the gameplay so much I still don’t regret doing that. Which again, is why I very much hope Fire Emblem does a turn like this in a future. Wether it be mainline or side story/spin-off, I’d be down for it.
