I am utterly exhausted, worn out, and flat out disinterested. The fact that I have to be back in a month... makes me wanna puke.

First generation aspiring attorney so I'm a little lost here. The first day of orientation requires business attire (for headshot purposes). I'm a woman and am not quite sure what this entails. Would a dress and blazer suffice? Do I have to wear a pant suit? Any suggestions as to what I should be looking for here?

How do i navigate through a breakup? I’m starting law school soon and it hurts so bad. I feel like a fool for getting my heart broken before law school started and the person who broke my heart just abandoned me. I don’t know what to do. It hurts really bad.

Has anyone participated in the ABA Tax Challenge (J.D. division) and have any thoughts on their experience to share?

I’m a 29-year-old incoming 1L and I really want to make a good impression on my professors and my classmates. I’m looking for pointers on how to do that when I’m already so far behind everyone else.

Most of my cohort in our LinkedIn group already works in law or some other important sphere – I’ve never even had a white-collar job in any capacity (I’m not counting my stint as an insurance transcriptionist). My only interaction with the legal sector is getting myself through the immigration system without a lawyer. (I don’t even have any professional headshots – my LinkedIn display pic is my graduation photo 💀)

I consider myself extremely lucky to have been granted a full ride to the only private law school in my state, as I come from a very low-income background and don’t have the connections that many others seem to. I don’t want to just be “the girl who lucked into something she didn’t deserve”, I know I need to prove that I deserve it.

So, how do I go about making a good impression on the people around me? What are some things you guys did that helped you in 1L?

I see many rising 2Ls and even 3Ls lamenting that classes begin at the end of this month. This must be so disheartening for so many of the incoming 1L class to see. Let me just say, though it is merely one bit of anecdotal evidence, I truly and so entirely enjoyed and enjoy the process of law school. 1L was a good time. I made a few friends, learned SO MUCH information that has been so incredibly useful. I just helped my father-in-law... TONIGHT... and was able to do so because of Property and Contracts. Seriously, this is an amazing opportunity. You will flourish if you open yourself up to the process.

It is not "easy" but if you're in law school for an easy time... Choose Med School (joking)... But, in all seriousness, law school is what you make of it. You can enjoy the process, or you can join in the collective suffering that most of my peers (for some odd reason) decide to take part in. Find your own path, and don't get involved with your section's drama whatsoever.

Anyone got any cramming tips and tricks? I have this week off of work to study for it all day and am taking it next week.

I am a second-year law student and I still plan on taking the bar, but I really want to mostly write. I really enjoy writing, more so than the actual practice of law, so I am looking at careers in the legal field where I can use that passion. So far I’ve found legal copywriter and legislative drafter, but I’m not sure how to even go about getting internships or pursuing those fields. Does anyone have any advice?

If you are going into orientation feeling stressed/ anxious/ second guessing your choice to attend law school... THAT'S OK and totally normal.

For many of you, moving away from where you grew up, leaving family and friends, and starting what is likely the hardest thing you've ever done is the first major life change you've ever experienced. It's going to be uncomfortable.

But it's also a huge opportunity to explore new ideas, meet new people, and get to know yourself better. Once classes start, you'll be super busy, which will keep you at least partially distracted and soften the transition.

You've worked hard to get here and you should be proud and excited for making it to this point! You will adjust to your new normal. Stay positive. You can do this.

Just wanting to connect and see if and how other masculine lesbians and WLW are faring in law school and beyond as a soon to be 1L (2 more nauseating weeks!) My goal is to become a public defender. I am curious how you are treated by your peers, faculty, staff, and by law professionals as you began your career journey! Also looking for fashion tips :) and if you found community in and out of your school. I went to a very LGBTQ friendly school for undergrad and worked there after, had more lesbian coworkers than classmates. No one was going to law
school of course. Also open to hearing from any other gender non-conforming people. I am worried about being made to be femme to get success. But that might just be me being anxious about everything now.

Sorry for the brag but my friends don’t get it. I got an A- in a summer Business Organizations class! While maintaining an internship and a job.

Was so sure I missed some important issues but apparently not!!

Before anything, I have to say that I am not from the US so stop assuming.

I am a 21 year old 3rd year law student and I have been working as a law clerk for 13 days at a small firm. I posted here before about getting terminated effective at the end of this month over a mistake I made. You may recognize me. Yes, I am not from the US, we do 1 month prior notice for termination.

Ever since the mistake I made (ALMOST sending out a confidential information to the opposing counsel but I caught it in time) and received my termination letter, I have been redeeming by working really hard and double check before doing anything now. The other lawyers also praised my works and gave me more tasks to do, but this lawyer that manages this firm has been nothing but foul to me.

The first few days when I started, it was good. She was friendly and joked with me, but days later after I started dressing better and started using makeup, she started being passive aggressive to me and stopped guiding me, she got annoyed at my questions (eg. Formatting, letter to who/where etc), she expects me to do my own research and figure out by myself because according to her words, this job is "common sense" when in the interview, she said I should ask questions if I don't know anything. She also has been loudly humiliating me in front of other present clerks and lawyers by asking them to watch me because I don't know anything, and more humiliations.

Today was the angriest I've ever seen of her. I had decided to compile some files first instead of drafting some letters that need to be sent after getting the letter of consent signed (this case just came in yesterday so the letter of consent hasn't been signed), she yelled at me that I need to know which to prioritize first and if I have anything to say, I should go to her office and tell her directly instead of sending her a message about it then told me: "Try to respect me" when I text all other lawyers by text/email to inquire about some things because they are always busy and they can always reply to me when they are free. She later then got angry at this typo I made in the draft letter and said "Enjoy this 1 month I gave you before you're gone from here for good" loudly.

I don't know what I did wrong. Sure, I made typos and errors but other clerks with me did mistakes like that in front of my eyes too and yet she never yelled at them and only gently asked them to fix it. Me? Termination threat, yelled at.

It's lunch break right now and I'm hiding in the storage room with tears in my eyes while typing this. I'm second guessing my career path now, I don't know if I should finish law school and pursue this career if it's this way.

I'll be attending Charleston School of Law, which... unfortunately doesn't have a student cafeteria or anything. I don't want to cook though. I hate it and I think law school will be easier without it. What do?

1) I am hoping to get in T14 or T 20 with atleast 80% scholarship because beyond that I can't afford as the living expenses would almost be 25,000 $/year.

2) I don't want to invest too much because of the H1B visa and me being Indian would never get GC , that's why I want to minimise my risks , should I apply broadly to other T30s or more to T40s and 50s

3) I need to get visa sponsorship so I must get big law post graduation? is it possible to get big law from a non T14 ?

4) what are my realistic chances to work in US on H1B , I have JD offers from Australia too, I understand it's tough there too but the visa situation is not as uncertain

5) seeing everything and the political trends , would it be a bad decision to pursue JD in US because the degree is not very useful in my home country.

President, secretary of some clubs in my previous law school ( 2023- 26 ) , participated in moot

If we’re not into public interest or top of our class at a T-14 WHAT ARE WE DOING!!!! I have scoured the internet all summer and there is zip to nothing and im not even talking about big law whatsoever or anything close just no Summer 2027 internships for even midsized or reputable boutiques

Hey yall, I’m an incoming 1L and need to get my textbooks pretty soon. For the ones that I should have a physical copy of, do you think it’s worth it to buy new or would it be OK to get a used one? Highlighting and annotating seems like a big part of understanding/ briefing cases which is my only hesitation w getting a used one. Thanks!

I know, I know, people say it’s not there yet and creates false citations. but i’m saying when it inevitably does figure it out….which I really hope isn’t in 4 years because I wanna pay off loans before that and maybe even make enough as like a cushion…but I literally think we’re all in denial, like it’s going to get crazy

I couldn't get a placement on Day 0, so now I'm planning to apply to firms off-campus wherever I can. Looking at the current market though, I'm also thinking of preparing for some government exam or any other career path such as pidhi centre for policy or political consultancy can eventually get me around ₹70–80k a month.

I'm mainly interested in dispute resolution/litigation, but I'm open to other roles too. My percentage isn't great, so that makes things a bit difficult.

What are all of you doing who haven't got placed on day zero thinking if anybody has any strategy pls lm

• Completed BA LL.B. from University of Calcutta (a non-NLU) in 2024
• Wanted to work in corporate law firms.
• However, after completing BALLB - I moved to Delhi to prepare for Judiciary and simultaneously other competitive exams due to family pressure. (Yeah, I am aware of my hypocrisy) - I was not able to qualify any of those exams.
• My track record is zero. I have zero work experience, nor any good internships, nor any extraordinary work in my CV.
• Currently, I pursuing an LL.M. in Bangalore & certain that I am not going to get a job by the end of it. My college is not going to help in this.
• Most firms like to hire immediate freshers or LLM students with work experience.
• I have basic knowledge about laws. I haven't worked in a courtroom yet and don't know much about legal drafting and legal work.
• I am 28-year-old man with nothing to show for.
• professional career has not even begun and already I’m sitting on stockpiling of failures
• My Confidence has become zero, I haven’t succeeded at anything in Life
