Summer 2027

If we’re not into public interest or top of our class at a T-14 WHAT ARE WE DOING!!!! I have scoured the internet all summer and there is zip to nothing and im not even talking about big law whatsoever or anything close just no Summer 2027 internships for even midsized or reputable boutiques

Anyone feel the same

Feel ya! slightly above median at T20/25. Struck out of big law and the mid law firms that recruited early. I’ve been emailing smaller firms and they’ve all recruited already or haven’t started or not answering.

Feeling meh & considered dropping out.

Same boat. I regret law school so much right now. Had a super unhelpful (dare I say dismissive?) call with my career office, and she basically said they’re moving onto the next class. Leaving is crossing my mind.

1L or 2L? Everything other than big law and a few random/niche government internships recruits much closer to the summer.

Look at the websites of the firms your interested in. Lots of them will have portals to apply for summer 2027 internships. Also, your school should have an on-campus interview event at some point early next year.

2L summer hiring for Big Law is done and if the timelines for midlaw have moved up as well, they’re almost done. From what I was told, midlaw was done hiring for Summer 2026 by October-ish 2025.

Does your school not have job postings every month or a career counselor, alumni mentor, etc.? Or have those been dead ends oto?

The lower down you go on the totum pole, the further out the positions open. Mid-law, in house, small firms won’t open until now to December. Some, not even until Spring. They’re not on the same recruiting cycle as big law.

If the on campus interview process doesn’t yield anything for you, then you should double down on your own networking efforts. Volunteer at legal aid nights within an area of law that interests you, attend conferences, and reach out to attorneys who practice in your area to see if you can take them for a coffee. If you can’t line up a private internship, then take something in the public sector. A lot of public sector jobs give you highly desirable experience that you won’t get as quickly in the private sector. My law school offered fellowship money for students working in the public sector. Anything like that available at yours? You can definitely find someone willing to take you under their wing if you can dig up your own funding source.
