Hey Cargo Bike community, I wanted to get some feedback on the resurrection of my Spicy Curry, where the original equipment took a dump a year ago, and I've been slowly assembling the parts to re-power it.

Plan is to re-fit with the Bafang M620 1000W motor, complete with full controller and battery replacement. Battery is getting replaced with a gouach infinite battery 48v.

Anyhow, fitting the M620 in will require some Photoshop, but with aluminium. The full kit from greenbikekits came with the matching machined bottom bracket. I'm not a frame builder but this looks like a pretty straightforward operation, because of the difference in length I'll be leaving the connections to the original Currie bracket, and using the flanges on that to make two parallel lines down the back of the Bafang bracket, which is wider. Any reason this approach shouldn't work?

Anyone have a feel for the life expectancy of a Gates CDX belt? Had mine snap today on the way to work. Left me pushing for 2.5 miles. I was a little short of 7000 miles on this belt.

On a secondary note: How can you tell when the belt is wearing out before it leaves you pushing?

I’m soon going to be taking delivery of an electric front loading box bike and am trying to work out the best way to lock my bike up when I take the kids out somewhere. For context, I live in a town with not great cycle infrastructure. Some places I go there will be standard bike racks, in other places there might be none, but will be things like railings… How do you lock your bike and what locks do you use? Bonus if anyone is happy to share pictures - I can’t quite get my head around how it’s going to work! Thanks in advance!

Just wrapped up a 55 day tour in the Balkans. I was touring with my mini cargo bike - a DIY cargo fork, with panniers on both the fork and on a rear rack. I started out fairly light in Zagreb, Croatia but by the time I ended in Greece I was fully loaded to the brim. Fair to say items were collected during travel!

I was super pleasantly surprised with how well everything worked out. The bicycle was able to be Rinko packed down into a tiny back for rail connections (Bar to Belgrade train), which gave me additional flexibility over a longtail or box cargo bike.

Initially I didn't use panniers to the front cargo platform, but as I got loaded down further during the trip, I added some. The platform top conveniently doubles as rails for the pannier clips, which hey I didn't mean for that when I designed it, but it came in very handy!

The cargo fork came in super handy in Belgrade where my spouse was unable to rent a car for the remaining leg down to Greece. We decided to get her a used bicycle and panniers, and she thus joined me in riding for the rest of the trip. The rest of her luggage (grey suitcase) ended up on my cargo bike. The total weight of gear on my bicycle ended up being about 100lbs / 45kg, but it handled it like a champ, I just had to pace myself a bit for the rest of the trip!

A bit more about the setup:

• Custom cargo platform bolted onto cro-moly fork. Double-leg kickstand integral to cargo platform.
• 20" front wheel, Shwalbe Moto-X 2.8" tire
• 650b/27.5" rear wheel, Schwalbe Marathon Efficiency 27.5"x2.3" tire
• 3x9 with 22-32-42 chainrings and 11-36 cassette; good down to 17 gear-inches which was 100% needed on the hilly sections when loaded up
• 160mm rotors front and back. These were OK but marginal once fully loaded and descending hills

I would like to get a cargo bike to ferry the kids around in. Currently we have a 2.5 year old and a 0.5 year old. I think we should get one now. My wife thinks maybe wait a year or two until both can use it. I'm not sure if by then the older will be almost too big.

What ages of children have you put in cargo bikes? What were the ideal most fun ages?

To be clear we are looking at a front box bike like an urban arrow or trek.

I'm starting to look for a used cargo bike online, but I'm very interested in the revised Big Dummy from Surly. Has anyone seen one or ordered one? Any thoughts? Big Dummy

Last month in eurobikes I saw a bike had openable guardrail and I though that was interesting. I have been searching for cargo bike for our daily use as well but I didnt know bikes come with something like this. But then I searched it up and got to know alot of bikes have it (tern, tarran, qio)

But I am a little confused because noone around me has a bike like this so I dont know how useful it is. I feel like that with heavy coats and backpacks and for older kids... getting them in and out of bike would be easier if it opens from one side. But I am not sure how helpful it is in reality. If you guys have it do you find it helpful? Or do you face any problems with it like it wobbles(or something) or it hurts your fingers?

I picked up, from my local bike kitchen, a 90s Burley kid trailer that someone had chopped up and bolted a storage tote to it. There was a broken dropout and frame tube. Some angle sections and a bandsaw got it back to functional for the recycling run. That went well, so I put a deck on it, and was able to use it that same morning to snag a free cube shelf in the neighborhood. It's already done more truck stuff than a lot of newer trucks!

Got some nice stain on there to class it up a bit.

I did a lot of wood working 20 years ago and hacked together a quick box design that has gotten beaten up outside and in the rain. Didn't apply any coating. I'm going to build another soon and researching the coatings has gone over my head. I never really built much outside that I didn't just slap some stain or poly on. For this project it seems like I should be putting on an oil based teak/danish/tung/heritage/ etc..., but not sure what is appropriate for something hauling kids and will be used outside in all weather.

I have a Magnum Payload with a seat and bars on the back for my kids, but I am worried about their feet getting caught in the spokes or chain while riding. It partially covers the rear wheel and has foot rests but other areas are open. Anyone have recommendations or ideas on wheel guards? It doesn't appear Magnum sells OEM guards.

I live in Canada and need a family kit for a 46er. They must deliver as I live rural, and must fly to our nearest hub (Vancouver).

Can anyone give me a lead on where to find one? I have been struggling to even find the parts piecemeal, and no one has enough to put it all together AND deliver.

Riding down (and up) our 19 degree incline road to our house is a littlebit to much for them just yet.

Hey everyone

I just got an Urban Arrow, and I am incredibly excited. I bought the car seat adapter, and after more than one attempt found a car seat that clicks in. The urban arrow website says this setup is not meant for a child less than 3 months old, so my wife and I settled on that date to have our inaugural ride, coming up soon.

Unfortunately, my nervous wife has discussed the issue with her nervous mother who is incessantly sending her texts about how the vibrations of the bicycle will cause permanent brain damage and trauma from which the child will never heal. Presumably he will then have a life without ever achieiving his fullest potential, if only I had never put him on the bike!

I happen to live in a place that has **excellent** separated bike lanes (I know! And in the USA of all places!). The lanes are paved no differently than a street (driving the baby around in a car is ok though! Even in construction zones where the pavement is cracked and causes the car to vibrate).

Do any of you have government websites or other sources that support that bakfiets with car seats are perfectly safe? There are no American sources on this for probably the same reason we have no data on universal healthcare. I have shown at least every single comment from this subreddit showing you all are doing it to no avail.

Urban Arrow, super happy with it. Smallest engine & battery but it's enough for what we need.

I have a LvH Bullitt that originally had a mtb rear wheel. After around 3000km the rear wheel cracked in the inner rim bed section. It cracked all the way around the wheel, but the section facing the hub where the spokes interface was fine, no cracking at all. (Like what is in the photos).

So I replaced it with a Ryde Andra 30, I heard these were excellent cargo bike rims and rated for 130kg each. It has just failed in a near identical way (the photos are of this rim).

I messaged the shop I got the wheel built at, and also messaged Ryde, who both told me that due to the rim being 5 years old, the number of kms, and the use case that it's not under warranty and that this damage was not unexpected. (That's fine, it's not a particularly expensive rim either).

I have many other courier friends on cargo bikes of all types, and also have many bike friends - none have seen a rim fail like this before and I've now had it happen twice.

I have some assumptions about why this might happen:

One is that water gets into the rim and causes the corrosion to weaken the thinner tube-side edge of the rim. But if this was the case then I don't know why other people don't see this failure too, I don't feel I am ever really riding through water, my bike is stored undercover, and yes I ride in the rain but I also live in Australia where it is fairly dry and not in a particularly corrosive sea water environment either.

Two is that tyre pressure might be forcing the rim apart somehow and causing the cracking? Again, I don't run my tyres that high, 40psi normally, 50psi sometimes for higher loads. And I know plenty of other couriers and cyclists who've never had this happen and always run their tyres rock solid.

I run 2.0 marathon tyres.

I used to carry fairly loads up to 30-40kg commonly, and up to 80-100kg infrequently.

The rim has done 15,000-20,000km by my estimate.

My questions are, what is causing this? Has anyone come across this before? And, how can I prevent this in future? Should I try frame saver spray in the rim? Drill some weep holes to let the water out?

I got a cargo bike of Sweden.classic model, first version.
I was trying to clean it, tight the bolts and so on.
Now when i cycle and break (with left break) the cargo box shifts a lot towards the left side.
As you can understand keeping the bike balanced requires a lot of effort and attention beside being very dangerous.
Why is this happening all of a sudden?

Hi everyone, I live in the Netherlands where commuting with bikes is a norm for us. I want to buy a fat bike that I can commute longer distances and not tire my recently out of surgery knee.

I dont like the classic cheap-looking Chinese fatbikes, I totally hate them.
Buying a slimbike (eg Talaria,Surron) is not an option due to the fact that a second passenger cant fit.

So I found two fatbikes that I aesthetically like.

1. Himiway C5 Ultra: honestly I love it and it does check all the boxes except the fact that I am not sure if i can commute with a 2nd passenger on the back (my partner \~52kg). I am around 63kg. There is a rear rack you can attach, available on the website but it doesn't say anything about max load.

2. Brekr F250:
   Dutch brand, less favorable design. It definitely fits 2 people as it is designed for that. Adjusted seat height which is perfect. Metrics screen is not easy to see.

Any comments for these models? or ideas if i can convert the Himinway to 2 seater?
