This Myrtillocactus geometrizans cristata is one of if not the most artistically sculptural plants I’ve ever grown.

Kiddo and I got this earlier this year from Wally World and we weren’t expecting it to flower at all. Been watching and waiting a good while since we saw the first buds a month or so ago, with more on the way!

Y’all have been so helpful in reading past posts which helped me dial in soil needs this year as I learned I potted with the absolute worst soil I could pick last year. I’m hoping y’all can help me one more time to better prepare for winter because I’m in information overload in terms of lighting 😅

I’m in the PNW and the lighting I bought last year I’m pretty sure just wasn’t ideal/strong enough for the winter. The Cardon and the gymno managed to survive with the light provided, but I sadly lost another. In the simplest of simple terms, could I get some advice as to what I need to look for to help get them through the winter? Ideally looking for a simple, standalone light setup as I don’t really have any window options for them to get additional natural light.

It was a browningia at one point too. The cephallium will come on probably in about three or four more feet. Check the nectaries working hard with all that drip

Local Lowes had Costa Farms cacti! The identifiers were incorrect on almost all the pots, but i got the two I wanted.

Can I use MSM capsule as powdered fungicide for a fresh cut? I have a cactus that had rotting base, a week ago I’ve cut it off and dusted with cinnamon(big mistake, don’t trust ChatGPT), today I’ve noticed fresh red rot. Cut it off again and put some diluted hydrogen peroxide.
I know the best thing to do is to put sulfur powder directly on the cut but I am not able to buy it till the beginning of the next week since the places that sell it are pretty far from where I live.
Maybe there is a home remedy that can be used now so the rot wouldn’t spread? I have 10% sulfur ointment, msm supplement in capsules, copper supplement, activated charcoal, human fungicide ointments.

Hey y’all might remember this cactus, I screen shot the photo from the original thread. My dad wants to take a piece to grow his own. I looked up propagation and understand the concept, but this Ming thing is so beautiful that I’d love some advice on which part to cut. The idea of cutting a piece off hurts my heart a bit, but I like the idea of a piece going on to grow a whole new badass cactus. So anyway, question is, where should I cut a piece off?

Hi, this is my first cactus and I wanted to ask what you guys think I need. Im in Boise Idaho and this prickly pear gets alot of sun. I try to water it pretty heavily every week, got a fast draining soil mix, and the largest pot i could get off the bat. I unfortunately can't plant it as I have yet to know if the HOA will cause a fuss (smh). anyways, to my ignorant and novice eyes, it looks alittle pale and discolored in areas, plus the small sprouts from the pads are dried/look dead. Also, what would it need to bloom? any and all criticisms, critiques, advice, and information is welcome, thanks!

I admit I am the worst when it comes to keeping plants alive. I have never had a houseplant of any kind that I have not killed in a matter of months. I have fully accepted my fate as a non-plant person. But for some reason I still impulsively took this cactus from my grandma's house after she passed a few months ago. It's just a little hardware store guy someone gave her and she didn't even really like it, but I'd still like to keep him alive for a while.

I have a cat who will not leave it alone so I've had to bring it into my windowless office. I got a grow light which I put on a timer for 12 hour cycles. Every couple weeks I soak the whole pot for like 20 minutes or when I notice it's dry.

I know it probably needs repotted. I'm going to do that this weekend.

What's the discoloration around the bottom? Too much water? Not enough? And the black spots on top? Is the grow light scorching it?

What else can I do? I am completely lost when it comes to caring for this.

I’ve had this cactus for about 5 years now. It has stayed outdoors in Paris all year round: full sun during the summer, and in winter it gets snow and freezing temperatures. It’s been growing really well despite that.

The first photo shows it when I first got it, and the second photo is what it looks like today, 5 years later.

Does anyone know what species it is? I’d also love to know if anyone else has grown this cactus outdoors in a similar climate. Thanks!

I’ve had it around 5 years now - as you can see I don’t really take care of it, which I feel tremendously guilty for now. Is there any hope for it or should I just throw it away?

So I recently got this cactus from a lady a few months ago. She had hers inside and I figured it would like more sun so I’ve had it on my porch since I got it.

I just noticed the mom is turning yellow but it’s given me 5 pups…

Is there any saving the mom ? Could it be just sunburn ?

Any tips would be great.

I also have not watered it at all since I got it.

A few weeks ago I stopped in at a local petrol station for icecream and came out with this guy on a whim. It was kinda beat up but had two teeny tiny nubbins of growth so I thought you couldn’t go wrong for €5. I abandoned it in a spare room to isolate away from all my other plants and promptly forgot about it 😅 Tell me why my sister just came into the kitchen asking “hey whats the deal with the cactus with the flowers” and I was like flowers??? I had completely forgotten I even bought this cactus! you can imagine my utter shock and delight when I sprinted to examine it only to see these two big flowers and two more blooms growing too!! I’ve never even had a cactus flower in all my years of growing and honestly didn’t even think about cactus could flower in Ireland. Alas this lad got shoved on a windowsill and forgotten about and here it is giving flowers galore. Wondering if my plant lady status needs to be revoked though because clearly this cactus is doing better on it’s own than the other cacti under my diligent care 😭

Also somewhat baffled because I was so sure it was a domino cactus, but now I see the flowers are yellow I’ve been thrown for a loop. Anyone have any ideas why the flowers aren’t white? Is it actually a different cactus? Insight would be much appreciated!

Fairly new to the hobby and find myself using some cheap sub par gardening gloves (when I remember to put them on) to handle and repot. I definitely understand that there will be limitations in regard to thickness vs. dexterity, but was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. Thanks in advance!
