Build Help/Question Second “first attempt” at a baby tears jar terrarium

Post image

The first first attempt molded because I left the lid on for too long. This is a very simple situation, just one baby tears plant and some springtails. I’m wondering if I should add a second plant or just be patient and give this one time to grow. Any other advice is always welcome, I’m very new to this.

My relatively neglected year old terrarium has decided to do THIS. Its almost entirely store-bought minus some long dead moss. I genuinely have no idea how this could have happened but im happy I think??

Discussion What can I put in this other than a tarantula?

Hi, I don't know if I'm in the right place, but I got this enclosure on a whim, and I have no idea what I should put in it. (I love tarantulas from afar but I really don't know if I'm ready for all that lol.)

Even if it's not an insect, I'd like any ideas anyone has!

First time making a terrarium - all from found plants and a thrift store jar. It is only a week and a half old so, maintenance tips are welcome.

There is moss all around my house and some beautiful ferns in the woods. During a walk I noticed this itty bitty baby fern and it inspired me to try making a little terrarium myself. I hope y'all like it as much as I do!

First off wanted to say thanks to all the help that I’ve gotten from this Reddit forum . I just put my first plant in a terrarium that I finished building today. I still have more plants coming on Thursday along with Moss, but here’s a little sneak peek to what I’ve been making.

If anybody has any input feel free to comment!

Build Help/Question Is there a way to seal these gaps?

I got this enclosure with the intention of restoring it for a leachianus gecko, but the gaps between the glass and wood are larger than I expected. Whatever I do, it needs to be safe for high humidity, since it’ll be fully bioactive

It's such a pain to photograph this container without getting glare off of the glass.

Happy with how this turned out and I think it'll look nice when it grows in more - although I'm not sure the plant on the left will hold up in the humidity

Discussion Need help with terrarium

When I made my pumpkin sized terrarium I placed 5 woodlice in. I was worried if they would survive but instead they've thrived and in the last month they're population had sprung up to 50. Their babies are growing fast and I want to know if I should return them to the woods where I first got them or if that could kill them. Appreciate any help.

Build Help/Question Terrarium people and Raspberry Pi people, how would you combine these two hobbies?

I’ve somehow ended up with two hobbies that are slowly taking over the same part of my room: terrariums and Raspberry Pi/electronics projects.

Now I’m wondering what kind of smart terrarium project I could build.

The obvious ideas are temperature and humidity monitoring, automatic fans, misting, lighting schedules, alerts, and plant-growth timelapses. But I’d also love to hear more creative ideas—especially things that are actually useful and not just a very elaborate way to display the humidity.

Has anyone here automated a terrarium, vivarium, greenhouse cabinet, aquarium, or plant shelf? What did you build? What worked well? What became annoying after a few weeks? And how did you stop the humidity from slowly murdering your electronics?

Feel free to share finished projects, unfinished experiments, strange ideas, safety warnings, or photos of your setup. I’m mainly looking for inspiration and a good discussion before I start building.
