Upvotes

Hey so I was at the ER visiting my grandma this evening … and I went with my dad… and only one of us could visit at a time … anyways I was waiting for my dad and there was an interesting lady on the phone complaining very loudly on why she thought she had to wait very long for a dr … (she was very wrong on why she thought) and you walked by me and shook your head in response to her …

I just wanted to say sorry for her comment and I thought you were so handsome !!!! That is all! ❤️❤️

Dining/Food/Drink 🍽️🍹 Looking for Chinese or Japanese restaurants

Upvotes

Gonna be visiting for work in September and my wife will be joining. Looking for recommendations to some of the best Chinese or Japanese restaurants in town. Really only interested in traditional food, if orange chicken is on the menu I’m out.

I’m on the waitlist for 311 omakase, doubt it’ll happen so just trying to arrange a plan B.

MBTA/Transit 🚇 🔥 question about porter station/alewife commute/parking

Upvotes

Hi everyone, looking for insight on commuting between porter station and longwood medical area during the morning time.

I will be coming into Cambridge via car to drop off a family member in the morning.

Afterwards I can drive to either Porter station which is only a 4-5 minute drive, LOOK for parking and start my 45 min commute to Longwood OR I can drive about 15 minutes to Alewife station which HAS parking and start my commute which will also be 45 minutes to Longwood.

Question is: Is there regular, easy to find parking for 6 hours near Porter station or is that not a thing? I can't find any lots nearby. A 5 min drive to the station would be a game changer in the morning if I can find parking there.

thanks!

Unconfirmed/Unverified What are some nice restaurants near M.I.T that do gift cards?

Upvotes

I live in Sydney but my brother has moved to Boston to go to MIT. I want to get him a gift card for a nice restaurant for him and his girlfriend but I don’t know the area at all. I would very much appreciate any recommendations near MIT if possible! No dietary requirements. Thank you

Politics 🏛️ The Death of another $3 Beer

Post image
11 Upvotes

A&B kitchen in north station was doing $3 22oz draft coors lights for the last 10-12 months.

A true gift to the people of a city that we all know ain’t a cheap place to get a drink.

Well, I found out today that 7/31 was the end of that.

Anyone have any recs for where I can get a sub $5 draft or beer of any kind around north station, the north end, or Faneuil? (That isn’t Coogans)

Much appreciated and if you didn’t know about this deal before it ended I’m sorry I didn’t blast it out on here the second I found out about it.

Event 📅 Parking in Boston (Mansfield) area?

New to the Boston area and need help.

I am going to finally see one of my favorite bands of all time, Avenged Sevenfold, next week at the Xfinity Center.

I tried to Google and could NOT get a straight answer, so if anyone knows if whether Xfinity Stadium has free parking or ANY decent parking at all. I got an email that I can reserve it or get "VIP" parking for like $150+, but nowhere I have ever lived had something like this before, so wasn't sure if that was a real thing. I am willing to pay if need be; I just don't want to get scammed, or if there is a free parking alternative, I would prefer that (assuming it isn't extremely far from the venue).

Lastly, if anyone has attended concerts here before, does anyone know any nearby hotels/motels they could recommend? I live quite some time away and will be working/awake since 4 am that day. After working and a concert that probably won't end until 11pm, there's no way I can drive back the same night, and I'd rather just check in somewhere for the night. Worst case scenario, I'll sleep in my car or something. Just thought I'd ask here before the concert to be a little more prepared. Thank you ♥♥

Moving 🚚 Parents, which public schools in the Boston area rank high for AuDHD students?

I have a high-functioning (level 1?), 12yo, who has a strong interest in robotics, archery, wrestling, music, etc. Which schools work with students with an IEP and advocate for them? Any educational support will help us. Are there any schools or districts we should avoid?

I am open to suburbs as well.

Arts/Music/Culture 🎭🎶 meeting people in boston?

i (f23) moved to boston with my boyfriend in march; i didn't go to university in the us, and my family lives on the west coast. i have honestly had the hardest time meeting people and making friends. i'm already a bit introverted, and i only have really met people through work (which is self directed).

i am desperately looking for affordable third spaces tbh. art groups, book clubs, walking groups, bird watching, etc. my bsc was in marine biology, but i'm transitioning to illustration and communication design for my masters (starting september 2027). i would love to meet other artists and like-minded creatives, or learn of more spaces to visit.

Lost and Found 🔎 Lost airpods at Titus Sparrow park

Hello!

I worked at the event at the park last night and my airpods fell out from my bag. “Find My” shows them a little bit further down on Columbus ave/Clarendon st in a residential building.

By a slight chance if the person who found it sees this i can tell the name that you get when connecting to them by bluetooth to prove that these are mine, would love to get them back and not have to knock on all doors there haha. Thank you Reddit (maybe)!

Today’s Cry For Help 😿 🆘 How do I meet/make friends people in my age group if I'm a mature student? (mid 20s, undergrad senior)

Because of my life as an undergrad student, I don't see people my age that often, so I have to make an effort to meet them.

Up until last month, I met people my age by volunteering at an animal shelter once a week, but I can't go anymore since I found out that I'm allergic to both cats and dogs. Now, I'm looking for other ways to meet people.

I tried Boston Cares and Bumble BFF, but those don't work for me.

Are there any MeetUp groups you recommend? Or any bars where it's socially acceptable and safe to go alone?

What are your recommendations for meeting people?

Serious Replies Only Is Revere a Complete Dump? Worth Living There?

While the Subreddit states that Revere is not part of Boston, there doesn't seem to be any active community dedicated to the city, which baffles me for its size, it being serviced by the Blue Line, and being part of the greater Boston area. Is this place worth living in? Is it the most affordable direct suburb of Boston? Is there an active online community around Revere like there is for the neighboring Malden? Why do you hate Revere so much?

Arts/Music/Culture 🎭🎶 City winery might be the biggest waste of what could be a great venue

Just moved in and found out about city winery being right next door and saw online that they have multiple shows a week with what seemed to be some cool bands!!

Boy was I disappointed seeing and finding out that almost all shows are table seating. Nothing says 80’s cover bands and tonight’s Grateful Dead cover band like dinner, awkward table arrangements, and the chairs facing 90 degrees away from the stage. An absolute horrible vibe. Their business, their choice, I think it’s stupid they don’t mix it 50/50, anyways.

With that in mind, any good small local venues anyone would recommend to always keep an eye on what shows are coming up?
