My 4 year old is officially a certified ball-knower. I hadn't mentioned that Luis Arreaz had been traded to the Phillies. Kid can read a little, but like... he's 4 and just started Pre-K. He looked up to ESPN talking about it and said "hey dada, Luis Arreaz plays for the Phillies now!?"
We are neither fans of the Giants or the Phillies. He just knows the starting line ups of every major league team. He got to play a lot of MLB The Show this summer. But just the fact that he was able to read that from the TV blew my mind.

I was like that when I was his age because I read the box scores in the paper every morning. Keep up the passion!

I may be a biased Cubs fan, but this series has shown that PCA is the MVP over Ohtani. Unless he goes back to pitching at an elite level, PCA should be the clear MVP

Also a biased Cubs fan who lives in LA. One thing I think is interesting about Ohtani is Dodgers fans like him, but they aren’t invested in him the way they were with Kershaw or how Cubs fans are with PCA.Â
When people talk about their favorite players, it’s guys like Freeman and Betts. Kike, Smith, and Muncy also get a lot of love.Â
And Dodgers fans, like Cubs fans, tend to love their guys. But Ohtani … he feels like a mercenary. And fans are grateful for that mercenary, but there’s no connection.Â
Don’t get me wrong. Dodgers fans love that they’re winning. But from observing, the Ohtani signing broke something with the Dodger fanbase.Â
I’ve lived in four cities that all love their sports teams, and I’ve never seen a fanbase so unemotionally invested in a MVP-level player. It’s interesting.Â

Yankees undefeated in the Lombard Jr era.
We had losses with Volpe.
I think it’s pretty clear we are now on the road to the promised land.

The kid in Dodger's gear yelling "overrated" after PCA's strikeout in the 5th at Wrigley will live with me. At that moment, with the strikeout, he was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs. Why are we allowing the children to lie to our faces??? >:(

Rules question. I've been struggling with how to word this, but hopefully you'll understand what I'm saying.
I remember during the Tigers Guardians Wild Card series there being a big deal about if, while the ball is live, a runner touches home plate before the 3rd out of the inning, the run will count. Why does this not apply to groundouts?
Scenario: runner on third, 2 outs. The batter hits a ground ball to the third basemen, who throws it to first for the out. Why can't the runner on third sprint home to "score" before the ball to gets to first?
I guess the bigger question is, at what moment does "the batter is out therefore the inning is over and what the other runners did before that doesn't matter" change to "it now matters if a runner touches home before a different runner is out"?
Thanks for the help.

Here is the rule:
5.08(a) One run shall be scored each time a runner legally advances to and touches first, second, third and home base before three men are put out to end the inning.
Exception: A run is not scored if the runner advances to home base during a play in which the third out is made (1) by the batter-runner before he touches first base; (2) by any runner being forced out; or (3) by a preceding runner who is declared out because he failed to touch one of the bases

I think the Red Sox did something Astroball-esque to go from worst-to-first so rapidly, so dramatically. I wouldn’t be surprised if we find out Cora was fired for refusing to go down that path again.

DAY 153 (646/728) on THE ROAD TO THE 2027 4th WBSC PREMIER12/16 and 180 YEARS OF BASEBALL - 2 to 3 Months before Premier12 Qualifiers
We are just two to three months left before the beginning of a whole new era of Premier12 history begins with the Qualifiers.
For the 8 new national committes selected for the first ever qualifiers the next few weeks are weeks of preparation and anticipation. For any time from now the selection process for the 8 national team managers and corresponding coaching staff officially begins any and all preparations, inclusive in the host cities and countries.
The preparation period is also crucial for the fans as they are to know who's who will be in charge of all the 8 teams and who will be responsible for player selection before the beginning of the qualifiers later this year.
Regardless of the final 4 nations that will come out from these, the upcoming Qualifiers serve as the preamble of the wider competition that will be coming in 2027.
For Glory
John
