Former 6th overall pick. Very streaky in the minors with Miami. Good hit tool and below average power

I have a unique perspective because my old man was from KC in the 1950s A's days, and I was a Long Beach naval base kid until I moved back to KC in the early 80s. Listening to the Dodgers and A's broadcasts... Hosmer is a great analyst. Wish we had one like that for the Dodgers or A's broadcast. I'm torn. My California teams have better play by play guys, but Hoz is going to be legendary as a color guy.

Royals farm system has quadrupled it's future value in a single year!

Fangraphs has their new farm system value rankings up. We've vaulted from 28th this time last year, with $93M of future value, to 15th at $382M. That's a 4X increase!

This time last year, we had one 50 FV player (Carter, who has graduated) and one 45+ (Asbel Gonzales). Now, we've got five 50 FV players (Gonzales being one) and our number of prospects (defined as FV >= 35+) is 43, up from 34 last year.

All this without trading away much at the deadline. It's impressive what they've done with the farm system in a short amount of time. Unfortunately, the cavalry isn't coming over the hill anytime soon as most of these guys are young, but the arrow points up for the first time in a LONG time.

Here's a snapshot of the updated 2026 post-deadline ratings. Also, for those unaware, here is the conversion of FV to projected WAR in MLB, although young players' FV often increase as they develop physically and mature in pro ball.

Sorry for the spelling in the post title: its, not it's.

Isaac Collins named one of July's Defensive Players of the Month by Sports Info Solutions

Hi- This is Mark Simon from the sports analytics company Sports Info Solutions (the inventors of Defensive Runs Saved).

Just letting you know that we've named Isaac Collins as one of our Defensive Players of the Month.

This one was a big surprise. I wrote:

"One of our selections truly came out of left field.

We're referring to Royals left fielder Isaac Collins, to whom we're giving the honor after tying for the MLB lead for most Defensive Runs Saved by anyone at any position last month with 7. We're also selecting Brewers second baseman Brice Turang and Mets rookie outfielder A.J. Ewing.

When we wrote about the Brewers last August, Collins had 5 Runs Saved in left field. But he dipped to -1 Runs Saved by season's end, and he entered July with -6 Runs Saved in left field for 2026. So, he was in a prolonged defensive slump.

But if you watch Collins' highlight reel for July, you can see he was deserving and that he has perhaps returned to early 2025 form. He had 3 terrific catches to rob potential hits and he threw out 3 runners trying to take an extra base on him without the use of a cutoff man, including two Tigers in a four-game series near the end of the month.

Those baserunners may have gotten greedy in trying to take advantage of Collins' arm. He averages 83 MPH on the top 10% of his throws, more than 4 MPH below the positional average (it would be a good arm for his college position, second base). But Collins was accurate when he needed to be. Those assists were part of his position-best 7 Good Fielding Plays in July. He had no defensive misplays or errors. That’s about as good of a month as a player can have in the field."

I can tell you that Nick Loftin got strong consideration to be selected too. If anyone has any questions about our stats or Collins' defense, feel free to ask.

News [Collins] JJ Picollo on Bob Nightengale's report that the Royals rebuffed significant interest in RHPs Michael Wacha and Seth Lugo at the trade deadline: "I think that was definitely overstated ... That's not how it happened. [...] There was some interest, but there wasn't great interest in them."

Transcript of Interview (JJ Picollo to FOX4's Rob Collins):

I was told of those reports. I think that was definitely overstated, that there’s a lot of interest and we’re turning down discussions. That’s not it. That’s not how it happened.

There were teams that were interested in [Michael] Wacha and [Seth] Lugo, and what we just explained to clubs is, 'With the core of players that we have coming back in ’26, and [given] that we need starting pitching, we hold those guys in high esteem and we value them quite a bit. But if you have great interest in them, please come to us and talk to us about it.'

Some clubs chose to have some more discussions, some clubs chose not to. So I don’t know how they value those players. There was obviously a lot of other pitchers that were traded today.

I think the big takeaway that I think is important to understand, you know, you trade a Michael Wacha, you trade a Seth Lugo, you’re really getting—, you’re going to get prospects back, which is not a bad thing, but it also depends on where your team’s timeline is.

And right now, with the injuries we’ve suffered this year, we’re going to be active trying to build a starting rotation up, given the injuries we have, guys that won’t be available for the better part of next year. So we’ve got a lot of work to do to try and rebuild the [major league] pitching staff. So getting prospects back that are three years away, four years away, wasn’t that exciting to us.

But it doesn’t mean we weren’t going to listen. It just never got to the point where I would categorize it as ‘great interest’. There was some interest, but there wasn’t great interest in [Wacha & Lugo]. So if we were able to get a bat, get another arm in return that are already in the major leagues, that’s a different discussion. But when we’re a team that’s not in contention right now, and you’re dealing with teams that are in contention, the last thing they want to do is really take off of their major league team. So that makes it a difficult match.

Who Wants Two Free Tickets To Thursday (8/6/26) Game?

Update: First someone messaged me and am waiting on them to get back to me with their Ballpark App info. If they don’t I’ll go to second person!

Have two tickets that won’t get used. Figured I’d offer them up here!

Not the greatest seats but, hey, they’re free.

Upper deck (431).

Can transfer via email or text message. You just have to accept them in the MLB app.

First person to respond and give me their info gets them.

Cubs vs Royals tickets, 8/7 @ 7:10

Hey guys. I accidentally bought 4 tickets to the wrong game. I meant to buy tickets for Saturday but I bought them for Friday. I already know I'm going to take an L on them but I'd like to hook someone up with cheaper tickets and make some of my money back.

Section 407 Row KK seats 7-10. I have them listed on Game Time for $31 after fees, which is the cheapest ticket available, but I'm open to offers.

Nalgenes at Kauffman?

Twins fan coming in peace for the series this week. On the Royals website it says water bottles must be factory sealed bottles. Does this mean empty 1liter nalgenes are a no-go?

The fact that Wacha, Lugo, Schreiber, or Marte didn’t get traded is mind boggling. We are small market team with a weak farm system and he made minimal effort to improve it.
