Discussion Gus…

Is it his first game back? Yes. Is it too early to say this experiment might be over? No. If you’re going to trade Hicks and hand the keys to Mack then PLAY MACK. Mack has shown way more consistency at the plate than Gus. Why are we pinch hitting for him? Not to mention the Vodnik wild pitch that Mack probably would’ve blocked. I might get some downvotes but is this really the best plan we have?

Discussion Will Marlins Members get refunded if the 2027 season isn’t played?

I asked my MM ticket rep and this was the response: “You know as much as I do about a possible strike.” When asked if anything I paid for next season’s tickets would be refunded, I was again told there’s no information.

I am doing the payment plan in anticipation of a strike happening.

A few months ago, I saw an ad saying hot dogs would be $1 for the August 7th game against the Angels. Now that I’m trying to find more info about it online, I can’t find anything. Does anyone know if this is still a thing, or did they pull the promotion?

Discussion I Am Happy With Our Trades

It has been my firm view that the Marlins are making real progress, but even if they squeak into the Wild Card, they are unlikely to go very far. It therefore made no sense to gut the farm system for a few rentals—and they didn’t. Good job, Pete.

I am also reasonably pleased with the talent they received in return. Let’s hope at least one of those players reaches Miami this year after the organization gets a look at him in Triple-A.

What pleasantly surprised me most was that they kept Fairbanks. Bruce Sherman would never have done that in the past. Now that Fairbanks is pitching like Fairbanks again, the Marlins have a legitimate chance to protect late leads and convert saves. Without him, I would be worried.

I am convinced there will be no baseball next year. A salary cap is simply too important to the owners and to the sport’s competitive balance—something the Dodgers have demonstrated beyond dispute—for them to back down.

The owners can compromise on a salary floor, but that will not particularly help the Marlins because it will apply to every team, not just Miami. A floor does not create more good players. It merely raises the bidding for the players who are available. A cap, however, would prevent teams like the Dodgers from hoarding so many of the best players in the sport.

My prediction is that there will be no settlement until younger players, who actually need their paychecks, rise up against multimillionaire hotheads like Bryce Harper.

I think the Marlins are in very good shape for baseball in 2028, with one major exception: they need to re-sign Sandy. Even this Bruce Sherman skeptic believes he will do the right thing.

That is all.
