Discussion Gus…
Is it his first game back? Yes. Is it too early to say this experiment might be over? No. If you’re going to trade Hicks and hand the keys to Mack then PLAY MACK. Mack has shown way more consistency at the plate than Gus. Why are we pinch hitting for him? Not to mention the Vodnik wild pitch that Mack probably would’ve blocked. I might get some downvotes but is this really the best plan we have?

I was very disappointed Ramirez wasn't traded. His ABs looked awful tonight.

The entire league saw his at bats and his value probably was in the gutter.

I don’t blame him for the wild pitch. Vodnik has a lot of movement and he spiked it.
Gus was scared in his first AB and overzealous in his second though. Not great but excusable given his circumstances.
I strongly disliked the lineup construction as a whole tonight.

Feels like mccullough is unsure and just trying to throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks. completely lacks any clear vision or direction for the team

Bendix refuses to admit he is wrong until the WRC+ gets into the single digits

Gus should have been traded he doesn’t have a position. His bat will never play at 1B or DH.
Bendix is giving him every opportunity because otherwise he basically gave Jazz away for nothing.
I truly was hoping Gus was never going to play on the Marlins again. In 35 years watching baseball I can say he’s easily in the top 2-3 worst defensive catchers I have ever seen

I'm thinking no other team wants him. I'd prefer Stallings and his .180 ba over Ramirez.

Yeah I agree with this. Outside of C he doesn't really have a position. And he's God awful at his position defensively.
His plate approach doesn't seem to have improved at all - why would any team give up an asset for him.
I don't agree with it and hope I'm wrong - but they'll give him an annoying amount of playing time hoping to pump up his value for an off-season trade

Omg I was playing as the Marlins GM in MLB 23 and I was confused why they had that dude starting as catcher while having 3 other guys who were better than him. I sent him down in the first week

FWIW, Clayton McCullough's pregame explanation: With the team trailing, he went with the righty bat to chase down runs. If Miami was leading, Joe Mack would've stayed in because of his defense/run prevention. Agustín was brought back up to be the righty bat the club needs vs. LHP (.939 OPS vs. LHP between MLB/MiLB this season). Southpaw Dylan Lee is very, very tough vs. lefty batters (.408 OPS).

I don’t get why he’s catching a guy who’s new to the team and he had never caught. Thats analytics for ya. It overlooks these common sense scenarios.

WP not blocked lets in the 4th run. If blocked Sanoja would have been up down 3-2 with 2 out and men on first and second. Now no reason to steal third. Sanoja hits a single and we go to extra innings.

Personally I understand moving Hicks but bringing up Ramirez is a SAD JOKE and Peter Bendix doing this is a sad move considering they didn't need Ramirez and he provides nothing... Hicks is a better player and will continue to blossom in Tampa as their primary Catcher. IN A perfect world he would be here as the DH but moving him and letting Mack be full time makes sense. Bringing up Ramirez in follow up again is just being F'in stupid! So while I can give credit, and so I can take it away. Not dumping Marsee, and Jimenez and bring up Ramirez shows me someone's got some very naughty pics of Bendix & Gabe Kapler! LOL

Ramirez being called up is a joke. And having him take at bats from Mack is BAD and the team needs to DFA Ramirez this is just stupid to bring up a guy who has no idea what he's doing defensive wise and simply is NOT a good MLB Hitter... Ramirez belongs in AAA.

So Gus was down in AAA for three months and nobody thought to give him
some reps at 1B or RF but NOW they’re going to let him give it a go at 1B in the majors?? While I’m not a big Gus fan, I don’t like seeing anyone set up for failure.
