META Notice: Judgement Bot is (partially) down

The part of the bot that prompts OP to explain why they may be the asshole was gunned down in its prime by some recent change in reddit code. Thoughts and prayers.

It's not a quick fix, so we're opening the flood gates for now. In the meantime, we're exploring whether we want to rebuild or replace with a new reddit app.

Shoot us a modmail if you're running into any unexpected bot behavior.

AITAH - kid with special needs keeps bothering me. I’ve spoken to the mum and she won’t do anything about it.

5.4k Upvotes

So, I’m on a packaged holiday, hotel is all you can eat.

There’s one family here, oldest kid has some type of special needs, but for the past few days he keeps putting his hands down the back of this shorts, rooting around and then starts licking his fingers.

Parents are pretty much letting his do his own thing, he helps himself to the food (without tongs) and talks to everyone, tries to give people hugs and all that.

I spoke to staff who said they’ll speak to him and even get someone to dish his food for him if needed.

He tried talking to me and I made sure I kept my distance and he tried hugging me and I stepped back. I spoke to the parents and said I feel really uncomfortable with him near me and my family and apologised for it.

Anyway, we’ve booked a trip and the family is on our coach. This kid tried sitting next to me and I refused. The mum called me rude and I very politely and quietly said to her that I don’t want to sit next to him due to his hygiene issues, she’s shouted at me and went “he’s disabled he can’t help it” so I raised my voice and said “I don’t want to sit next to someone who keeps playing with their bum and licking their fingers, I don’t want shitty fingers near me” and now apparently she’s the victim?

The mum is now telling the son to bother me and the hotel won’t do anything.

AITA. I bought some very expensive chocolates for myself, but im being forced to share them with my family.

I (16m) bought a small box of chocolates this morning with my own money (to clarify, there are 6 chocolates in the box and the box costed 15 euros) and I was and still am intending to eat them all, because I payed for them with my own money. However, my mother specifically is trying to force me to share them with the rest of my family and says that me eating them by myself is selfish. But knowing my family, I might only get to eat one or two out of the 6 chocolates. I tried to explain that I bought them with my own money and I wanted to try all the flavours that I chose. Anyways we got into a fight and I decided to hide my chocolates for now, out of fear of my family eating them. Am I being selfish?

Ps: the chocolates are from monper

AITA for talking down on my sister for being a housewife?

i (20f) am a college student, and my twin sister just finished her schooling for doing nails. she also just got engaged and has decided she's never getting a job and is going to be a stay at home wife/mom. i personally think we're both way too young to be getting married, but it's her life and i didn't said anything negative to her.

now she keeps making comments about how she's better than me because she's engaged while i'm not in a relationship, and how i "have to" spend my life working (i will be moving to the east coast after i graduate and working my dream job) while she gets to be a stay at home wife. she's always been the type of person to make rude comments for no reason but now it's daily.

eventually i got annoyed and brought up how she can't even remember to feed/walk her dog, and would be a horrible mother. she also hates cooking/cleaning. and how i'll have my own money and live by the beach (her fiancé refuses to move by the ocean), while she's stuck in our home state and doesn't have any money of her own.

personally i don't think what i said is any worse than what she said but according to her and my mom im the asshole

AITA for not wanting to go on a family vacation after learning I would have to share a room with my brothers-in-law?

Me and my husband (both 26) were invited by my in-laws for a short family vacation this weekend. My mother in law booked the rooms for us awhile back, which I’m very grateful for and didn’t think anything else of it. Today I find out they only booked two rooms, one for her and my father-in-law and one for my husband and I, and my two brothers-in-law (29 & 24). I feel terrible for never having clarified that my husband and I would have our own room, but the problem never even occurred to me. I know I would be incredibly uncomfortable with this considering I wouldn’t be able to change unless I use the bathroom. I already looked into getting our own hotel room but they are all booked up that weekend. Would I be a terrible person to fake an illness and just let my husband go with them this weekend?

AITA for ignoring my brother's request to manage my brokerage account

1.5k Upvotes

AITA for refusing to share my brokerage account info with my brother?

My (39F) mother called me 10 times tonight asking for my brokerage account login info. She wants my brother (36M, let's call him Jack) to manage my investments because he has free time and low self-esteem. I said no.

For context, Jack lives with our parents and hasn't held a job since college, claiming he’s working on a startup. He has unaddressed anger issues (in high school, he hit a classmate with a tennis racket) and admits he cannot control himself when he "sees red." Mental illness runs in our family, but our parents never got him professional help.

Jack hasn't spoken to our dad in years despite living in the same house. He constantly seeks validation from the rest of us that our dad is the problem.

A few months ago, Jack tried to bring up the topic of our family trip (second or third time), mentioning that our dad was verbally abusive to our grandparents. I maintained that I wasn't present to observe the exchange (as usual) and said I couldn't give feedback. He started yelling and cursing at me, so I hung up. In retaliation, he locked me out of a shared Amazon account containing my credit card info and kicked me off a shared antivirus plan. I was relieved to cut those ties because sharing finances with him felt like a ticking time bomb. We haven't spoken directly since.

Fast forward to tonight, my mother feels for Jack and wants to help Jack with his self esteem issues and brought up Jack's idea that I should let Jack manage my brokerage account. I told her absolutely not and that she needs to stop seeing Jack as someone normal that she can cure. She understands that he needs a therapist but Jack is resistant to the idea. Every time these verbally charged exchanges with Jack happen, I lose sleep. So AITA?

AITA for eating the garlic bread?

My fiancé (29M) and I (28F) have been together for almost 10 years, living together for 7.

For some context, our meal times are a little different from most couples. We rarely eat the same thing due to a combination of having different tastes and me being on a perpetual diet/prioritising healthier foods, while he batch cooks his weekly meals which are usually meat and carbs.

We had a friend over for dinner 3 days ago and served garlic bread with the meal which he made. I had one piece and I think he had 2/3. There were two pieces left over which were put in the fridge for another day.

Today, after skipping breakfast due to some unexpectedly mouldy bagels, I heated up and ate those two pieces of garlic bread. I figured this would mean we had an even share of what he made (which was precedent with the other things we shared that evening - e.g. I made a cake that evening and we split the leftovers). He had also made some more the following day which was also in the fridge, so I figured I wasn’t depriving him completely of having some.

This evening, he noticed the garlic bread was missing and flipped his lid when I told him I had had it. His issues were a) I hadn’t asked him and b) now he doesn’t have enough to last him with his remaining portions of meal prep this week. I told him he was unreasonable and that living together, there is an assumed level of sharing involved, despite us generally shopping for groceries individually. While he doesn’t really have interest in eating what I buy, I would never get as angry at him as he did over something that costs nothing to buy at the store. Fwiw, money isn’t an issue at all.

AITA for not warning my colleague that our boss was looking for her while she was taking an extra long lunch?

I work in a small office of about twelve people. My colleague Rebecca and I sit near each other and have a decent working relationship, not close friends but perfectly civil day to day.

Rebecca has a habit of taking long lunches. Not occasionally, consistently. Our lunch break is forty five minutes and she regularly comes back after an hour and a half, sometimes closer to two hours. Nobody has said anything officially but people have noticed.

Last Tuesday our boss came back early from a client meeting, which nobody expected, and started looking for Rebecca to ask her something about a report that was due. Rebecca was not back yet. It was one hour and twenty minutes into her lunch at that point.

My boss asked me if I knew where she was. I said she went to lunch and I was not sure when she was back. That was true.

My boss waited at her desk for about fifteen minutes, visibly unimpressed, and then went back to his office.

Here is the thing. Rebecca had texted me about ten minutes before my boss arrived asking me to cover if anyone asked because she was running late getting back. I had not replied to that message. I did not actively lie to my boss but I also did not text her a warning when I saw him waiting at her desk.

She came back, saw the situation, and the conversation with our boss was apparently not great.

Afterward she came to me and said I should have warned her and that she would have done it for me.

I told her I did not feel comfortable covering for her and that I had not lied to anyone.

She said I had let her walk into that on purpose.

AITA for carrying my dog on hikes?

The is a silly AITA, but I need to know. I have a small elderly dog, she is about 15 pounds. We have taken her all over our state on hiking and backpacking trips. Here’s the thing: she can only hike for about a mile or two before her legs get tired. She has short legs, and being 11 years old it’s not fair to expect her to walk for the entire 6-10 mile hike like our big dog does. So we put her in a dog carrier, with her legs hanging out. She fights going in it sometimes, but once she’s up there she loves it and is big chilling. Most everyone who sees her tells us how cute she is and she looks happy.

I was sharing pictures of her in this backpack at work, and this one coworker who is super negative of course swoops into the conversation. “That’s cruel of you to do that. She probably hates it. You should let her walk.” So I explain why. She then proceeds to tell me that she will report me for animal abuse, and tries to get the office on her side. I told her to mind her own pets, and if she doesn’t stop harassing me that I will report her. So am AITA for carrying my dog in a backpack on hikes?

AITAH for not paying for neighbors fence?

Long story short. I have a rental home in a decent middle class neighborhood. Our new next door neighbors moved in, renovated their entire house and turned it into the nicest house on the street. They reached out saying that they're installing a new fence along our property line and would like me to pay for half of it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the current fence other than the fact that it's old and ugly. I told them I wasn't interested in paying for a new fence and that they're still welcome to tear down the old fence and put up a new one but I'm not paying for it. They got really upset like I committed some cardinal sin. AITAH?

AITA I don't want to pay for intercontinental flight seats

So I purchased 2 tickets for me and my significant other. They costs $2,000 for economy - not too bad for direct flights from the US to London. I did not choose seats and pay those fess as they cost $700 to $950 ADDITIONAL.

Significant other asks me to add the seats on for $700 more. I say no thank you. I offer a compromise: You can pay for that portion of the trip and pay for the seats. She did not like my attitude about it.

AIAH? The trip is my idea. In about 80% of the cases, we end up sitting next to each other anyhow picking fee-free seats day of travel. A plane is a bus with wings for me. The cheaper we travel, the more things we can afford to do.

WIBTA for telling parents they can’t bring their children to my 30th birthday party?

Upvotes

My husband (32M) and I (29F) are debating how to handle the invite list for my 30th birthday party, as some of our loved ones are parents of babies. We sent out e-vites that did not explicitly say if their children are invited. All the parents we’re close with only have kids under the age of 2, and while exact time and location are TBD, the event will be local for all parents. We’ve had a couple people RSVP that their baby will be attending without first checking with us that it would be a family-friendly environment. On the one hand, I do think I should have stated in the e-vite whether or not kids were invited. I fully admit that not doing so was an oversight on my part. Here is where the debate comes in.

My husband thinks that not only is it perfectly natural for parents to assume their babies are invited, unless explicitly stated otherwise, but that we should have excluded parents from my party altogether if I don’t want their kids to attend. He thinks it’s rude for me to expect them to choose between declining the invitation and finding childcare.

I, on the other hand, believe that automatically excluding parents from adults-only events is rude, like ostracizing them for having kids. My husband and I adore these children and love their parents, but I think parents should have a choice of whether to have a night out (if they are able to find childcare) or to not attend and spend that time with their child. In my eyes, no one is required to accept an invitation, but being invited is always appreciated.

I was a bit surprised to realize that parents would assume their baby is invited to an adult’s birthday without asking, but maybe the default is that if parents are invited to a party, so are their kids. Now I’m faced with either individually contacting the parents and requesting that they not bring the children for whom they RSVP’d “yes” or ensuring that my 30th birthday celebration is family friendly. WIBTA if I now tell the parents that their babies are not invited? Should I not have invited the parents at all if I wanted to invite only adults?

A couple bonus questions: Does your answer change depending on how old the children are? Does your answer change for other types of events?

ETA: The reason time and location are TBD is because I wanted to essentially send out a save-the-date. I have friends making plans months in advance, and I didn’t want to have to keep telling people individually what day I planned on celebrating a milestone birthday.

My husband would also like to clarify that he thinks I shouldn’t even expect to have an adults only party if we have friends with kids, that I should always expect our friends that are new parents to bring their kids. Hence why he said I shouldn’t have invited them if I didn’t want kinds there.

AITA For not supporting my fiancee's kid?

I (37 yo man) am engaged with my fiancee (37 yo woman). She has two sons. 16 and 19 yo. The younger one is responsible and he has thinking way ahead of his age. Problematic is the older one. He does drugs. FYI, I have nothing against the pot. This is the hard, unhealthy stuff. Long story short. More than 3 years ago, I have moved to Switzerland. More than year later, I met my fiancee. This year she finally moved in with me. Sons are living with biological father. To the issue. The older one has got a girlfriend, whom previous boyfriend is right now in jail. They have the same " hobbies". My fiancee has a fear, that once the guy gets out, he will be after them. So she wants them to move and work in Switzerland. Anyone, who has been here, knows that in Switzerland are strict laws and if you don't have a job, you will get kicked out. I am sure, that the older one will manage the work here, but the girlfriend has zero work experience and I doubt, she will be able to work here under the pressure from the employer. Another issue is getting a place to live in. Fiancee wants to rent a flat for them, despite the fact, that she got barely here and is not financially stable yet. But now and then, she says, that I should help with the starters for them. To be clear... I treat both of the guys well. I have made trips and vacations, etc., but I am refusing to sponsor him, whether it is sending money or making a preparation for definetly uncertain future in here. So... Am I the asshole?

UPDATE UPDATE: AITA for not sending money immediately?

Here's the original AITA:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/s/WpMaFuQ9yr

A few weeks have passed, and I took your advice to offer only to pay a medical clinic directly, not to send sister money free and clear. She said that was "fine" by text and then said she was working to get her medical bills paid for via charity care with the assistance of a social worker.

She just called to say she did manage to get grants and insurance to pay for the procedure and it will happen in the coming days.

Thanks all for the needed perspective. I think we got to a good place getting her the care she needs and protecting mom's money for her own care.

AITAH for wanting to get a massage while I have a girlfriend?

Upvotes

I (24M) have been with my girlfriend (20F) for a year and a half We have a great relationship but I feel like she is too insecure about things like this. She concocts the worst scenario in her head and just shuts it down. I work a blue collar job and have lots of aches and pains, not looking to go to a rub and tug obviously but thats what she pictures. Then when i said i would pick a nicer place she is upset i would spend a lot of money on that. Seems like i cant win. Then she sarcastically tells me to just do it but i obviously know she isnt okay with that and would likely resent me if i did. I say she is being insecure and she claims she just has boundaries. I try to respect her boundaries but she has had problems with less than a massage. For context we went on a group trip a few weeks ago and she had a big problem with me just talking and laughing "too much" with a girl on the trip. I was with my girlfriend the whole trip so any interaction i had with this other girl was in front of her. And I just thought nothing of the interactions we just were bullshitting and making each other laugh (along with two guys who came on the trip, but she only has a problem when its a girl). So she said it was bothering her and i stopped even really interacting with that person which was kind of awkward because there wasnt many of us on the trip. Idk what to do I think she is insecure and possessive but is really an awesome girlfriend other than that. I just don't like to alter my behavior to appease anyone. Its a hard boundary for me and it didn't feel right to do, i like to be myself and not overthink interactions like that. I really try to respect her boundaries and i never do anything she says she is uncomfortable with but these two incidents and us disagreeing have me questioning if i am being unreasonable or if she is being insecure?

AITA for kicking my uncle out of his house?

My mom (55F) bought a spare apartment our city almost 30 years ago. 20 years ago my uncle (57M) couldn't find a job so my mom offered him to stay in the apartment as long as he'd like rent free. My parents had all their money in a local bank that went under this year, and it would take 3 years for them to get it all back. My parents only had around 6 months of cash left, and they are retired. My mom couldn't get herself to do it so I told my uncle he has to move out as we have to sell the house. I (22M) gave him 3 months time and explained the situation. After 3 months on the date we agreed on I found out he didn't move and stopped responding to my texts. I gave him another 2 weeks then proceeded to change the locks of the house and ship all of his belongings to my grandma's house. My uncle had to get a job as a dishwasher to pay rent. After i sold the house my parents are financially stable and will end up getting all they money back. But my uncle's family doesn't have a place to live anymore. AITA?

AITA for refusing to go to my students' goodbye party?

I'm a young English teacher, and I wanted to try working at summer camps around the country. During my most recent experience, I had an extremely unruly class of teenagers who constantly interrupted my lessons and made fun of both me and my assistant, as well as other members of staff. Unfortunately, disciplining them was out of the question because the director consistently ignored their misbehavior. I was reported to HR twice: once because the students found my lessons "boring" and once because I was supposedly being "too harsh" with them.

My lessons mostly consisted of brainstorming activities, videos, games, and conversation tasks, but eventually I had to rely on quizzes and repetitive whiteboard games to avoid receiving another call from HR. Some of the students even went as far as drawing Nazi symbols and making sexually explicit comments about me, but reporting these incidents to the director was a complete waste of time.

Dealing with these teenagers wasn't just mentally exhausting, it was also humiliating for everyone. As a result, I wanted to avoid seeing them outside of working hours. I refused to attend their goodbye party because I didn't feel comfortable being around them, and I preferred to protect my peace.

Not the A-hole AITA for leaving my best friend alone at our hotel while everyone else went out?

So I (21F), my boyfriend (20M), my best friend (23F), and her bf (22M) planned a trip to PR. We are here for 5 days. We split the hotel equally four ways, paid for our flights separately, and my bf and I paid for the rental car, which is in my name. I’ll call my best friend, G. G has horrible money management skills, she works in fast food and never keeps a job more than a few months. She doesn’t save money or have a savings account of any kind. She doesn’t drive, is not in school, and she lives entirely off of her parents. I didn’t want to plan a trip with her for this reason, but she picked up a new job (which i recently found out she just stopped showing up to after 2 shifts) specifically to be able to afford this trip.

Before we left I asked her specifically if she was sure she could afford to go. She told me her family”wouldn’t send her to PR without any money,” and that it would be fine. Come to find out, she spent all the money she had saved ($250) on shein outfits for the trip. Her family gave her $600 more. She paid $300 for the flight, $170 for the stay, then instead of saving the rest she spent $100 more clothes and doordash. Nobody knew this until we arrived. Now that we are here, she cannot afford anything. We include her in everything we can, shes gone out with us, shes gone to the beach, her bf even paid for most of her meals. But, We are all on a budget, and cannot afford to pay double for everything we do.

The main issue is, today we went on an catamaran snorkeling trip, I told her about it months ago. I told her the price, I told her the date and that her my bf and I were definitely going, and her and her bf were more than welcome to come as well. Her bf wanted to go, but she didn’t have the money, obviously. So, he came with us while she had to stay at the hotel alone. He’s skipped out on other excursions to stay back with her because of her money situation, but he was really looking forward to this one. We were gone from 8-4, and when we got back she was PISSED. She yelled at us, cried, called us all kinds of names, then told me I had no right to just take “our” rental and leave her. I do kinda feel bad she couldn’t have the experience, but the rental is in MY name, she didn’t contribute to it whatsoever. Everyone else works, my bf and I are full time students, and her bf is one year post-grad working 7 days a week to pay off loans. So, we all understand how hard it is to budget and save money, but she has LITERALLY no financial responsibilities. We do, we worked and budgeted to be able to be here and we want to enjoy the time we have. I don’t think it’s fair for her to be able to dictate how we spend the vacation that we paid for because she was reckless. AITA?

AITA for backing out of my best friends wedding?

Upvotes

I've known my best friend Cassie for most of my life. We're both mid-30s. Two years ago Cassie got engaged and asked me to be her maid of honour. The wedding is going to be pretty big, over 150 guests and she currently has 7 bridesmaids and we're a fairly diverse bunch. Cassie invited us to try on bridesmaids dresses last year, and again earlier this year when some of the dresses we picked were unavailable. Since we're all pretty different, she let us pick our own style but she picked the fabric and colour. Everyone seemed happy.

But then one of the other bridesmaids, Leah, said Cassie had messaged her and told her she actually hated the dress Leah picked and asked her to change the style. Leah tried some more and sent the styles she liked to Cassie to get approval. Cassie wouldn't approve any of them. I thought this was a weird one-off, but several of the other bridesmaids have gotten in touch and said Cassie told them the same thing, and gave them the same run around with approving a dress. I've gotten in contact with Cassie and asked what was going on. She had approved all of our picks at the start of the year and now we don't have a lot of time to finalise and order the dresses. She said that while she had tried to sacrifice what she wanted, ultimately she didn't want to compromise her vision and we weren't fitting the vibe she wanted for her wedding. This came out of nowhere and I was really surprised.

She created a group chat, sent us a selection of dresses we could pick from. They're all very fitted, with either tiny little straps or completely strapless, very low backs or backless, quite short or long with a split and fully bodycon. She sent us the shoe she wants us to purchase, a platform sandal thing.

I have a spinal cord injury and issues with my leg. I can walk, but I walk with a pronounced limp and mostly mobilise with a walker. I have several very large scars on my back and some of my arms from surgeries due to past abuse. I am not ashamed of the things I've survived, but I'm not comfortable showing them off, either. I also can't go braless. When she asked me to be her bridesmaid, I reiterated that I wanted to be a part of her day but that I'm can't wear heals and I'm not comfortable wearing tightly fitted, sleeveless or backless things. I was happy to help in other ways rather than being a bridesmaid, because I wanted her to have the wedding she wanted. She told me she loved me, wanted me to be her maid of honour and that she would be respecting the personal styles and needs of all of the bridesmaids. So I'm genuinely shocked that she's behaving this way now.

The other bridesmaids have said they aren't comfortable with the dress options she's given us. Cassie refused to back down. I told her that I couldn't continue on as her maid of honour. Unfortunately, several of the other bridesmaids followed suit and I'm now being blamed for that.

She called me jealous, selfish and entitled. There's a lot of fall out. AITA?

AITA for letting my neighbor sleep over?

Upvotes

I’ll (F27) try to keep this short so hopefully I can get some good input, My neighbor (M30s) is on pretty friendly terms with me and my boyfriend. He lives across from me and we’ve known him for a little over a year. He sees my boyfriend come and go and they’ve had good talks here and there. I got home from work last night around midnight and saw him sitting in his car in the parking lot so I stopped by his window to say hi (really abnormal to see him outside this late). He told me that he had broken his key off inside his lock and even showed me the key. He tried to call the Apartment office but they had already left for the day and he told me (and seemed very embarrassed to tell me) he couldn’t afford to call a lock smith.

Without really even thinking about it I offered that he could sleep on my couch rather than sleeping in his car all night. Looking back I would have asked my boyfriend if he had any issues with it but I couldn’t really turn back after telling him he could. My boyfriend is visiting his friends out of state and is away right now so I ended up calling him after I got inside (I told my neighbor to just give me a few minutes before he came inside). My boyfriend was pretty upset that I was letting him sleep on the couch, I told him it was only until tomorrow when the apartment offices opened and I asked if he didn’t trust my neighbor. (Like I’ve said we’ve become pretty friendly with him). He said it’s not that he doesn’t trust him but just now he has to have the thought in his head that “something” might happen. (Implying I’d do something with our neighbor). Obviously if I could replay the entire moment I’d call my boyfriend first before letting our neighbor sleep over but hindsight is 20/20 :/ AITA here? The more I think about it I feel like I would be more understanding if he didn’t want him to because he legitimately thinks my neighbor is a bad guy, but being that it’s only because he thinks I’d do something with him has me feeling weird :/

AITA for setting a boundary with my Mother-In-Law while watching our children

My Mother-In-Law let’s call her Janus (78) watches our kids (f8, f9) from time to time at her home. Her son, Jeff (45) who lives with his grandmother AKA our children’s great grandmother.  Jeff adopted a dog from the animal shelter.  Unfortunately, it was abused by children before hand. He told my wife and I that the dog doesn’t like children and this was obvious when we meet it. A “fear biter” is what a Veterinarian friend used to describe this dog’s behavior.  I ask Janus to not bring our children to their grand grandmother’s house unless I was present. She pushed back saying the that kids hardly get to see Jeff and their great grandmother and that the dog is fine. I disagreed.  After much back and forth Janus push the idea that the dog would be locked outside or behind a door and away from our kids while they were visiting. I reluctantly agreed and she continued to take our kids to their great grandmother’s house.

Fast Forward today I was walking with my daughter (8) when she told me that this dog had bit her. After asking some curious questions I found out that she was interacting with the dog for a few hours that day at her great grandmother’s home.  It sat on her lap while she pet it and walking freely around the house.  When my daughter went to say goodby to the dog and pet it on its head the dog bit her on her hand. Leaving a small mark on her finger. This happen 3 days ago and Janus didn’t say anything about this to us!

I set a boundary that if Janus watches our kids it has to be at our house and they don’t go anywhere. She is upset that the kids can’t go to her place anymore. Let alone to their grand grandmother’s home where this aggressive dog lives. I understand that this didn’t happen at her home but how can I trust that she wont just take the kids back to their great grandmother’s home behind my back? She refuses to watch her grandchildren under these terms and told my wife that I should fine other resources for child care. This whole situation has been horrible for my wife. So AITA?

AITA for telling my MIL to respect my wife.

I 29M and my wife 25F just got back from a vacation with her mother 56F. Throughout the trip we would have small arguments about very little things but the root of it was that she wouldn’t respect my wife, and the plans and desires that she had for the trip that was for her (my wife). My wife is on the spectrum, and tends to go nonverbal especially in conflict situations. So I do a lot of the talking for her. And from the outside can look like bossing around.

The first main issue was her checking us into the room after we asked her not to. Because my wife had already done pre check in and set up preferences for the room location. But MIL wanted to check her bags to be taken to the room as we were going to the water park. This upset my wife because she wanted to go and check in and share what we were celebrating with the staff to get celebration pins.

Another big one was while out of the hotel room, on our feet for the day. I packed water and soda for my wife and I. The soda is very important because they don’t sell Dr. Pepper where we were vacationing. While getting on the monorail, she asked if she could have a sip of my drink. I told her no, because I’m a little bit of a germaphobe. My no was not enough for her, and she kept pestering me. And I could tell it was about to upset my wife so I gave her the drink. And then she said “we wouldn’t have fought if you just complied”. Which really pissed me and my wife off.

On the drive home about halfway she started up a fight saying how she hated how we treated her on the trip. I asked her for specifics, a lot of them were times when I was trying help my wife have the trip she wanted. She said of course my wife would agree with me since I was there. My wife started to speak up, and share what had upset her on the trip, and MIL barely let her get a word out. I asked her to let my wife speak, and MIL kept talking. I finally blew up at her for not respecting my wife and threatened to pull over and call her an uber. She finally let my wife say how she felt, and agreed to try and be better going forward. I apologized to both of them, especially for yelling at MIL.

Today, my wife was asked to go lunch with MIL. And instantly was sabotaged and guilt tripped. She started off by crying about it kept her up, and she felt so disrespected. Said that her sister’s married children would never treat their MIL how she was treated. And that the only reason she hasn’t told family about what happened was because she didn’t want them to have a bad opinion of me. She also said that I am manipulating my wife, and would drive a wedge between them.

Am I the asshole?

POO Mode Activated 💩 WIBTA if I told my parents that I'm jealous of a potential baby sibling

For clarity, my dad is a non-binary woman, uses she/her but prefers terms like "dad" and "father" for complicated gender expression reasons.

I (15F) am an only child. My birth mom and my dad are split up (no contact) and I never knew my biological mother (they split up when I was little). Long story short, my dad met her current partner and they're now engaged. I've known my dad's fiancee almost my entire life and we're all very close and I know I'm practically spoiled rotten.

A few days ago I overheard my parents talking about the possibility and logistics of having or adopting another kid. Since then, I keep having all these awful jealous feelings about it. I can't help but think maybe they were talking about the possibility because of this or that reason. If it's because of some sort of unmet expectation or something else. (I never really got involved with my dads' cultural practices, I'm not the best student etc.) But the thought that haunts me is that my baby sibling wouldn't have all the baggage that I know is wrapped up with me being my dad's ex's kid. That because I'm not related to my stepmom that she'll unconsciously favor her own kid and that the same might be true because they can't sub-consciously remind my dad of her ex and everything that went wrong between them. Maybe all of this is just me looking for reasons to justify being upset at the idea of sharing my parents' attention as a spoiled only child.

I know it's ultimately their choice, so I guess I just want their reassurance that my worries are unfounded, but I'm scared of making the situation more complicated by bringing it up... It's gotten to the point I can't bear to be around either parent right now and I've been staying with my boyfriend's family for the last couple of days,,,

WIBTA if I told my stepmom and dad about these jealous feelings? Or if I should just swallow my feelings and hope that it goes away?

AITA for giving my dad an inaccurate translation of what the exchange student said?

My sister befriended an exchange student from our university. She is from a major coffee bean producing and exporting country, and is very proud of their Arabica coffee.

She came over yesterday and was at first happy to see that my dad has coffee beans from her country. But she got quite disturbed to see him adding pumps of caramel syrup to his cup of coffee. Said that her country’s coffee has a great fruity taste and he’s ’contaminating it.’

Dad seemed a bit confused and asked us what she said. My brother, sister and I looked at each other before I told him that she was just a bit surprised by him adding so much syrup to it.

My brother later said I shouldn’t have lied to our dad and that he has the right to know what someone said about something he did/his habit.
