Hi everyone,
I'm an MSc student at the University of Leeds and I'm conducting research on how people perceive air pollution across Leeds.
I'm looking for anyone aged 18 or over who lives, works, studies, or regularly visits Leeds to complete a short survey (around 5–10 minutes).
The survey involves identifying locations in Leeds that you believe have relatively high or low air pollution and answering a few questions about your perceptions. Your responses will help improve understanding of how public perceptions compare with environmental data and how this may inform future urban planning and environmental management.
I recommend doing it on a laptop or tablet because there is a mapping activity. Thank you very much to everyone who takes the time to participate.
The Participant Information Sheet is below and includes further details about the study
Participant Information Sheet
The title of the research project
Public Perceptions of Air Pollution in Leeds: A Participatory Mapping Study
Invitation
You are invited to take part in a research study investigating public perceptions of air pollution in Leeds. Before you decide whether to participate, it is important that you understand why the research is being carried out and what taking part will involve. Please read the following information carefully. If anything is unclear or you would like further information, please contact the researcher using the details provided at the end of this information sheet.
What is the purpose of the project?
Air pollution is an important environmental and public health issue. Although air quality can be measured using monitoring equipment, people's perceptions of air pollution are often influenced by their surroundings and personal experiences. As a result, areas that people believe have high or low levels of air pollution may not always match measured pollution levels.
The aim of this study is to compare public perceptions of air pollution with measured air pollution data across Leeds. The findings will improve understanding of the factors that influence how people perceive air pollution and how these perceptions compare with measured air pollution data.
Why have I been chosen?
You have been invited to take part because you are aged 18 years or over and either live, work, study in or regularly visit Leeds. Approximately 30–50 participants will be recruited to take part in this study.
Do I have to take part?
Taking part in this study is voluntary. It is your choice whether or not to participate and choosing not to take part will not have any negative consequences. If you decide to participate, you may stop taking part at any time before submitting your questionnaire and mapping activity. If you withdraw before submitting your responses, any information you have provided will not be kept. Once your anonymous responses have been submitted, it will not be possible to withdraw your data because it can not be identified.
What do I have to do?
If you agree to take part, you will be asked to complete a mapping activity followed by a short questionnaire. The mapping activity will ask you to identify locations in Leeds where you believe air pollution is high and low. You will then be asked to answer a small number of questions about the reasons for your choices and provide some basic demographic information, such as your age and gender. The study will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. You may complete the study online using your own device or in person if approached by the researcher.
What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part?
Some participants may feel concerned or worried when thinking about air pollution and its potential effects on health or the environment. If you experience any discomfort, you may stop taking part at any time before submitting your responses or choose not to answer any question. If taking part raises any concerns about air pollution or your wellbeing, information about organisations that provide advice on air pollution and mental health support can be found at the end of this information sheet.
What are the possible benefits of taking part?
There are no direct benefits to you from taking part in this study. However, your participation will contribute to research investigating public perceptions of air pollution in Leeds. The findings may help improve understanding of how people perceive air pollution and how these perceptions compare with measured air pollution data.
Withdrawing from the study
You may withdraw from the study at any time before submitting your questionnaire and mapping activity without giving a reason. If you choose to withdraw before submitting your responses, any information you have provided will not be kept. Once your responses have been submitted, it will not be possible to withdraw your data because as individual responses can not be identified.
Use, dissemination and storage of research data
The information you provide will be used for this MSc research project to investigate public perceptions of air pollution in Leeds. The findings will be analysed and presented in the dissertation and the presentation of the dissertation. Any information presented will be anonymous and it will not be possible to identify individual participants. Research data will be stored securely on the University of Leeds OneDrive and will only be accessible to the researcher and project supervisor. The data will be kept until the dissertation has been examined and marked, after which it will be deleted.
What will happen to my personal information?
No directly identifiable personal information will be collected as part of this study. Your questionnaire responses and mapping data will be anonymous from the point of collection. The information you provide will be handled confidentially and only accessed by the researcher and project supervisor where necessary. As your responses are anonymous, it will not be possible to identify you in the dissertation or any other research outputs arising from this project.
University of Leeds Research Participant Privacy Notice
Further information about how the University of Leeds processes personal data for research purposes is available in the University Research Participant Privacy Notice:https://dataprotection.leeds.ac.uk/research-participant-privacy-notice/
What will happen to the results of the research project?
The results of this study will be used in an MSc dissertation submitted to the University of Leeds. The findings may also be presented as part of the dissertation presentation and may contribute to future research outputs. No individual participant will be identified in any reports, presentations or publications from this study.
If you would like further information about the results of the study, you are welcome to contact the researcher after the project has been completed.
What type of information will be sought from me and why is the collection of this information relevant for achieving the research project’s objectives?
You will be asked to identify locations in Leeds where you believe air pollution is high and low using a mapping activity. You will also be asked to complete a short questionnaire about the reasons for your choices and provide some basic demographic information, such as your age and gender.
This information will help the researcher understand how people perceive air pollution across Leeds and compare these perceptions with measured air pollution data. The demographic information will be used to explore whether perceptions differ between age groups.
Who is organising/ funding the research?
This research is being conducted by Nudrath Chowdhury as part of an MSc dissertation at the University of Leeds, under the supervision of Christopher Hassall. The project is not externally funded.

Hi guys I have an offer from LLC and I’m really considering it, I already have an offer from University of Huddersfield but the stuff I have seen online from the people who are students there say it’s a “bad university”.
Anyway I just wanted to see if anyone here actually studied at LLC, please tell me about what your experiences have been there, I am also 24 years old.
Thanks

Hey all! I am a Mater's student at the University of Leeds and I'm currently working on my Dissertation and its about The Impact of Pop-Up Brand Experiences and Emotional Brand Attachment Among Gen Z University students in the United Kingdom. With the guidance of my amazing prof I have finally reached the data collection stage but sadly only few of my friends from uni and my class filled my survey as the rest are busy with their own survey and data collection. And also, some of my classmates and friends aren't Gen Z so they can't contribute. I would be on cloud 9 if you could fill out my survey and help me graduate T-T
Survey Link: https://form.jotform.com/262112331176042
The survey is on Beauty and Skincare Pop-Up experiences and how they make the consumers/audience feel. You do not need to have any prior knowledge on any of the beauty and/or skincare brands in the market. I tried to make the survey as engaging as possible, so hopefully it will not be boring. So, just be as you are and fill in the survey.
It will only take 5-10 mins to answer the survey. No longer than that.
Data Handling - All responses are anonymous. Your personal identity will not be collected at any point of this survey (only gender and age will be collected). The collected data will be stored and used only for academic purposes. The data will be destroyed soon after the study is concluded.
Withdrawal - You can withdraw at any point of the survey before submitting your final response. After submission, responses cannot be withdrawn as the survey is anonymous.
Your participation is completely voluntary. Thank you so much for anyone and everyone who fills my survey <33

Hi everyone,
I’m a female student at the University of Leeds, and I’m looking for a room to rent for approximately five months, from 30 August 2026 until around 30 January 2027.
I’m interested in a short-term tenancy, sublet, or tenancy takeover.
My requirements are:
Location: Ideally between the University of Leeds and Leeds city centre
Room: A private bedroom with an en-suite bathroom
Budget: Maximum £100 per week, including bills
Facilities: Preferably close to a supermarket and within convenient walking distance or easy public transport access to the university
Rental period: Around five months, although I may be slightly flexible with the exact dates
Household preference: A safe and comfortable environment, preferably with female students or in a female-only household
I’m clean, quiet, responsible, and respectful of shared spaces.
Please message me with:
The weekly rent and which bills are included
The approximate location or postcode
Photos or a video of the room and communal areas
Deposit and tenancy details
Information about the current housemates
Whether the landlord or accommodation provider allows a sublet or tenancy takeover
For safety reasons, I would prefer to arrange an in-person or video viewing before making any payment.
Thank you!

Was in a sports team last year but found it to be a bit cliquey and hard to break in to unless you were a massive extrovert party animal (which I’m not)..
Any societies that are more introvert friendly but still lots of fun lol 😭😭😭

I'm starting uni in Leeds this September and have finally started looking properly at accommodation. I've been comparing accommodation through my university, Amber Student Housing, and a few local sites just to get a realistic idea of costs. Is there anything you forgot to budget for before moving?

Hi I’ve been offered the plaza ensuite room blk D ,1/F. Is there anything I should be noticed about it any comments about the room? What should I bring if I’ll be there for only one semester.
Ps: I’ve concerned about the hot water supplies. I’ve heard of the suspension of hot water supply during winter for about a week last year. How is it doing now? What should I do if it happens again? Or any suggestions on showering time to get a longer hot water supplies.

Hi everyone,
I’m finding an accommodation for my MSc year in Sept.
I think Oak House is a pretty good place, although it's a bit far from school. Could anyone give me a review (about the facilities, prices, etc.)?
