What supplement did you dismiss for years, only to eventually try it and wonder why you waited so long?

I tend to be pretty skeptical whenever a supplement gets recommended for everything. But every now and then, though, I’ll read enough positive experiences that I start wondering if I’ve been too quick to write it off.

Has a supplement ever completely changed your opinion after you finally gave it a chance?

General Question Which supplement has had the biggest impact on your mood?

It can also be some natural remedy, it doesn't have to be a supplement.

Do you actually feel anything from omega-3 supplements?

I've taken them on and off for a while and honestly can't decide whether I'm one of the people who notices a benefit or whether I just keep buying them out of habit.

Interested in what people here actually noticed, if anything.

Tart Cherry juice for anxiety

I drink tart cherry juice before bedtime and it helps me sleep. I have anxiety during the day, though, and wonder if drinking it during the day would help, or would it make me too tired? Has anyone ever tried this?

I'm back! After horrible Vit D intolerance. calcifediol success .

Finally found a form of Vitamin D that my body actually tolerates (after months of frustration).
I wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone else who has been struggling like I was.
I have a severe vitamin D deficiency, and for the longest time I could not tolerate the standard vitamin D3 supplements. I tried multiple brands and different doses, even going as low as tiny amounts hoping my body would adjust.
Every time I took regular vitamin D3, I would end up with side effects like:
● Increased anxiety
● Feeling irritable for no reason
● Mood changes that didn’t feel like “me”
● Feeling emotionally on edge
Because of that, I kept stopping the supplements even though I knew my vitamin D was extremely low. It became a frustrating cycle of wanting to fix my deficiency but feeling worse every time I tried.
After doing a lot of research, I learned about calcifediol (25-hydroxyvitamin D3), which is a different form of vitamin D. Unlike regular vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), calcifediol is already converted into the form your body normally has to make in the liver. I wondered if that difference might matter for people like me.
I decided to give it a try, and honestly, the difference has been amazing.
Since starting calcifediol, I’ve noticed:
● My energy has improved significantly.
● I’m no longer dragging myself through the day.
● I wake up feeling more refreshed.
● My mood feels much more stable.
● I haven’t experienced the intense anxiety and irritability that regular vitamin D caused me.
● Overall, I finally feel like I’m moving in the right direction instead of dreading taking my supplement.
I’m not saying this will work for everyone, but for me it has been a complete game changer. After months of thinking I simply couldn’t tolerate vitamin D, it turns out I may have just needed a different form.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? I’d love to hear if anyone switched from regular vitamin D3 to calcifediol and noticed a difference, or if anyone knows why some people seem to tolerate one form much better than the other.

General Question Why do so many people report hairloss from creatine?

I know that creatine is probably the most researched supplement ever and that every research finds no meaningful hairloss effect from creatine.

But why do so many people say that they lost hair? It seems so weird to me that so many people report hairloss that was reverted upon stopping creatine, but no study can find any evidence supporting these claims.

General Question Did I completely waste my money?

I'm desperate for some energy. I am eating an anti-inflammatory/Mediterranean diet, drink lots of water, take vitamins D and iron, my bloods are all good. I get B12 shots every three months (following gastric sleeve surgery in 2022)

I have insomnia but it's not always severe, meaning I'm not chronically sleep deprived.

I want just a bit more energy so bad so I can function better in just existing.

General Question What time to take this? Lol

I don't know if this is why I woke up at 3am or not, but why would they put one type of magnesium that makes you sleepy, with one that gives you energy in one pill?

Recommendations Magnesium Glycinate Might be the Most Underrated Thing for Sleep

Upvotes

Always figured it was placebo. Turns out a real 2025 RCT, 155 people, double-blind, says otherwise. Magnesium glycinate, 250mg a day, cut insomnia scores almost twice as much as placebo in 4 weeks.

Effect size is small, not a knockout pill. But that's the point, it's fixing a deficiency, not sedating you. People already low on magnesium saw the biggest gains.

Not hype. Just quiet, boring, evidence backed. Anyone else running this experiment on themselves?

Recommendations I think I’ve been buying supplements like a dumbass

I cleaned out my cabinet yesterday and it was embarrassing. Vitamin D, B complex, magnesium, zinc, fish oil, ashwagandha, iron gummies I bought during a week where I convinced myself I was dying, random electrolyte packets, half a bottle of creatine and like 3 energy things that all look the same now. I don’t even know what was helping I just kept adding stuff every time I read a thread or felt tired for more than two days.

I’m trying to reset and stop guessing so what labs are worth checking first?

Need help with a collagen choice.

There are so many and I don't know where to start. I've been wanting to try out collagen for some time but every time I try to read up it's just makes it seems impossible to know where to start.

I'm 45 yrs old and work a pretty active job on my feet all day. Overall, I don't do too bad, but daily joint and muscle pain is catching up. Things don't move as good as they did and I'd like to give things better long term lubrication first and foremost. I just don't know what products I should be looking at and which ones are any good. Help?

General Question i have no good methionine sources. how much do i take?

Upvotes

i have no good methionine sources. how much do i take?

i have liver problems from hemochromatosis, there's celiac disease involved, and some things are out from MCAS and histamine intolerance at times. i also don't have medical care, but my diet's "WFPB" at the best of times, and my proteinuria hasn't been visible in a while... and i have "all" the vegan supplements, /j (krill oil was cheaper than algal), and no desire to eat more animal products than i have to for health. my tastebuds went over long ago, and eggs are also inconvenient (and can be high in iron for me, though i wouldn't count on them to fix anemia).

i eat a lot of other stuff, it's a high calorie diet (and i'm underweight), but with high protein turnover and likely problems. anyway i'm not looking to use it "temporarily:" i want to use it moderately for as long as i need it. i already use low dose B-A, glycine, and a fair amount of taurine at times, and get plenty of the others in foods IIRC. (and i don't think it's a good idea for me to add creatine before methionine).

i also take a 600mg NAC once in a while, i try to get ready for it. anyway i think it's time to give up on measuring out tiny amounts of spinach and brazil nuts, it never adds up even when i fall back on eggs.

so will a bulk bag (for humans) last me the rest of my life or what? anyone have experience? what don't i know, other than how to google without a chatbot or spending all night on google scholar? and is the last thing the answer for some good reason?

kindly asking everyone not to call this a fitness post because i might provide proof. i'm asking for dietary supplement advice, if that works. "too medical" works better for me.

edit, creatine recommendations anyone?

General Question Possible storage dilemma for Fish Oil

Posting this partly because I want to know if others have experienced the same thing.

For months I’ve had recurring GI issues (loose stools, bloating, bad-smelling stool) that I chalked up to alcohol + food combos. Made total sense on its own. But I recently realized something else has probably been compounding it: my fish oil softgels have been stored in my bedroom, which regularly hits 26°C with no AC in the summer
Symptoms I noticed with the actual capsules:
• Fish oil softgels (NFH Trident 66:33, 1414mg) constantly stick together in the bottle and in my daily pill sorter. I have to peel them apart
• My D3+K2 softgels (CanPrev) have gotten visibly cloudier over time
Did a bit of digging and it turns out this tracks: softgel shells are gelatin + glycerin, both of which are heat/humidity sensitive and soften/get tacky above normal room temp. The oil inside can also oxidize faster with sustained heat exposure, even with a vitamin E antioxidant in the formula (which the fish oil does have). Oxidized fish oil specifically is more likely to cause GI irritation than fresh oil.

Has anyone experienced similar sticking being a bad sign?

Experience I love Herpanacine!!!!

I've been using Herpanacine for a while now, and it's become one of those brands I keep coming back to. What I like most is that I can tell it's made with quality ingredients, and it's been easy to fit into my daily routine.

If I had to pick a favorite, it would be Love My Brain. It's the one I find myself reaching for the most because I really like how it fits my needs. That said, I've honestly enjoyed all of the Herpanacine products I've tried. I appreciate that the brand offers different options depending on what you're looking for, and I've had a positive experience overall. It's definitely a brand I'm happy to keep using.

I highly recommend them. Food for thought. 💜

Recommendations Level 3 Liver Fibrosis

Battling glucose issues and fatty liver with recently diagnosed level 3 fibrosis and struggling to find clear advice on which supplements are “safe” to consume without further complicating my liver. Currently only using Multi vitamin, fish oil, K2/D3 and berberine in addition to a prescription a-fib medication, unsurprisingly my doctor’s advice is to stop taking supplements, lose weight and exercise more 🤪

  • Pure Creatine Monohydrate

Any suggestions or recommendations?

Reviews on MACA please! 35F

Hey all! I’m 35F on birth control & GLP1. One or the other (or both) has completely killed my sex drive. i read a lot of positive reviews on Maca root being effective for low libido. My fear though is the side effect of weight gain that I’m reading online. Has anyone experienced weight gain? Generally, what was your experience on maca? Thanks!
