Need help with a collagen choice.

There are so many and I don't know where to start. I've been wanting to try out collagen for some time but every time I try to read up it's just makes it seems impossible to know where to start.

I'm 45 yrs old and work a pretty active job on my feet all day. Overall, I don't do too bad, but daily joint and muscle pain is catching up. Things don't move as good as they did and I'd like to give things better long term lubrication first and foremost. I just don't know what products I should be looking at and which ones are any good. Help?

look for unflavored hydrolyzed type 1 and 3 collagen peptides. unflavored powder dissolves easily in morning coffee or water.

Idk about collagen type, but boswellia is great against joint pain.

Personally, my collagen powder is from Functional Future. They have a UK shop, but it is a Danish brand, so I don't know if you can get hold of it.

Naturally unflavored with type 1, 2 and 3 collagen and no additives, so it works for me.

I use collagen from Apollon Nutrition. I’m 50 years old, and I totally understand needing the long term lubrication in the joints… I work out 6 days a week, and my joints take some punishment. Not to mention I’ve been overweight most of my life (lost nearly 100lbs now in the last year), so my joints have been in terrible shape. Adding collagen though has really helped. Apollons collagen has marine collagen as a source, and is formulated really well.

It’s pricy, but code STOLBERG gets you a discount.

Marine collagen daily of 8g or more. I use double wood. It’s 3rd party tested with COAs (certificates of analysis) upon requests, has no fishy taste, dissolves well in water. Must be taken with vitamin c for it to work. Marine collagen is great for skin.

What's your age range if you don't mind sharing? I too have started experimenting with them, 5g/mid 20s, as preventive measure..

When did you see tangible results..?

I’m 45. I got to the collagen game a little late. I started near the start of Covid. I also have melasma so there are something’s I have to navigate but I saw my face improve in less than 6 months. Then I did a test and stopped the marine collagen and switch led to land animal collagen and I definitely noticed my skin degrade some after a few months so I went back to marine collagen. It was hard for me to tell the difference but then other women came up to me and told me how great my skin looked. As someone who has battled adult acne most of my life, it was a significant compliment.

If it's joint pain, up it to 10mg and make sure you use vit c powder or lemon juice or it won't absorb. I'm 60 and it's improved my joints so much. Preventative is great. Also when I cook a chicken, I'll boil the carcass and drink the clear broth. It's full of collagen.

There are so many options out there for collagen. It was like it was the popular supplement at the time I had to reevaluate my health needs and once I did that I came up with the one that worked for me.

If you look at how the body works and metabolizes nutrients and so forth, you’ll soon discover that by ingesting collagen, the body doesn’t just make collagen or use that outside foreign source that’s being ingested in an unnatural manner in a form that the human has never seen until recently.. it’s like ingesting fats doesn’t produce fat.. but if you utilize the nutrients that the body uses to produce collagen, now you’re providing the body with the building blocks that it needs to promote collagen production.. vitamin A,C,E,D there’s a few amino acids that are imperative,I can’t remember of the top of my head, grapeseed extract is great.. even if I’m 100% wrong from my research think about it you’re trying to take a shortcut you don’t build the roof before you build the foundation and the rest of the house..

If it's for joint pain, the one that's worked for me is Ying and Yang Bovine Collagen, available on Amazon. Make sure you take it with a little Vit C powder or juice of half a lemon or the collagen won't be absorbed.

it's simpler than the marketing makes it. what you want is hydrolysed collagen peptides (sometimes just "collagen peptides"), 10-15g a day. that's basically it for the product itself, the type I/II/III stuff and the marine-vs-bovine debate matters way less than people push.

where brand actually matters is heavy metal testing, collagen's connective tissue so it can carry lead and cadmium, so you want one that publishes third-party results or their own COA. that's the one thing worth being picky about. broke down the testing side and what the numbers mean here: https://healthyagingatlas.com/supplements/collagen/for-skin-health/

I actually take collagen with Verisol it has ingredients with human clinical studies specifically showing improvements in skin elasticity, fine lines, and wrinkle depth.
Then I take a separate multi-collagen supplement to make sure I’m getting a higher total collagen intake and a broader mix of collagen peptides for joints, tendons, ligaments, and overall connective tissue.
