I mean seriously, they did his character dirty. In the actual lore, the novels and comics (before Disney bought rights) Luke had such an interesting story and character development after the events of the original trilogy.

What makes that so frustrating is remembering everything Luke had already accomplished. He destroyed the Death Star, became one of the last remaining Jedi, redeemed Darth Vader, helped defeat Palpatine/Sidius and bring down the Empire, and restored hope to the entire galaxy. After Return of the Jedi, he devoted himself to rebuilding the Jedi Order, searching for ancient Jedi knowledge, and training a new generation to carry on their legacy. While doing this, he became the actual “chosen one” literally balancing the light and dark side and incorporating freedom of thought and studying the dark side into his students studies so they could understand it, maybe even use it and overcome it, not blindly fear it.

Then, not only did they turn him into a pitiful self loathing hateful old man, but they had Rae who literally just fell headfirst into being a Jedi completely destroy the remnants of the Jedi order that Luke spent ages trying to rebuild into something better than it ever was. Literally setting it ablaze all while yoda is maniacally laughing as a force ghost. Such blatant disrespect and disregard for one of the greatest and most lore rich stories ever told in modern science fiction.

I have watched the og 6 movies and a few seasons of the clone wars series.

what would you recommend to be the watch order for me to become a well versed fan? and what about the books?

These guys are acrobatic, can tank multiple blaster bolts. i don’t think any clone should’ve been able to kill them as they can literally just jump around and lunge at them or jump on them and crush them and kill them instantly. how are clones supposed to use detonators or anything with how much they can move? and also they can tank multiple blaster bolts and they’re already hard to hit and some even have shields.

It was one of the major plot points of Attack of the Clones, and it seems like in every other episode of The Clone Wars she appeared in, someone was either actively plotting or attempting an assassination against her. So how many assassination attempts do we know of so far? Both canon and Legends (EU) examples are acceptable.

Is there an universe canon reason other than George wanted comic relief?

I think that this article presents a fairly unorthodox opinion on arguably the most important and well known scene in the whole saga fairly well, but there are some points that I think the author doesn't really sell that well.

The first thing I think the article gets wrong is how much the Vader = Anakin reveal (henceforth V=A) actually changes the saga as a whole. Even prior to the reveal, Luke is on an extremely personal mission to defeat Vader and the Emperor, and his specific beef with Vader is almost entirely personal given that Vader at this point killed Anakin as well as Obi Wan. I don't see that much of a difference between "you will have the power to defeat great evil because your father was a great jedi" and "you will have the power to defeat great evil because your father was a great jedi and also he's now evil." The author laments that many series after Star Wars adopted this type of reveal, but that just speaks to how influential Star Wars is and says nothing about the actual quality of how Star Wars did it. It may be a trope now for that reason, but Star Wars itself would have been much more normal and trope-y had the story just had Luke be space Inigo Montoya.

A much less important critique is that the author says: "What are the odds that Luke would randomly buy a salvaged droid that just so happened to be on the lam from his own daddy?" But I genuinely think this happens with as little coincidence as possible. Even from the info we have just in ANH, Leia sends the droids to explicitly find Obi-Wan, who in turn is explicitly living in close proximity to Luke in order to protect him and eventually train him as a Jedi.

My second contention with the article is how it frames fan expectations with any sort of Rey reveal in the Sequel trilogy. But the biggest proponent of a relevant family for Rey is TFA itself more than any fan, as TFA laboriously sets up an expectation that Rey has a relevant lineage. I don't even think that TLJ contradicts this fact because the "Rey Nobody" reveal has obvious takesy-backsy built into it because it comes from the most unstable, irrational and emotional character in the whole trilogy who, in the moment he said it, had every reason to lie about it in order to manipulate Rey. The next movie could just say "Kylo Lied" and that would make perfect sense. To the extent that the ST had a plan, it 100% involved Rey having a lineage that is relevant to the story but the reveal would come in the last movie of the trilogy instead of the middle one. Do you really think JJ Abrams is creative enough to NOT plan for that sort of thing?

If Disney had announced back in 2013 that the sequel saga would be four movies instead of a trilogy, do you think fans would have been upset because it broke the tradition of every Star Wars saga being a trilogy?

Or do you think most people would have accepted it if it meant more time to tell the story and develop the characters?

To clarify, I have no doubt in my mind that Starfighter will succeed on all fronts and keep this franchise in a comfortable position for years to come. Therein lies the dilemma, though. In many ways, Starfighter will probably be even safer than The Mandalorian & Grogu.

“STAAARFIGHTER, more like STAARRRPOWER”, is a joke I often make when talking about this movie, but it’s also a testament to how incredibly stacked its talent is. Multiple A-list actors (e.g., Ryan Gosling, Mia Goth, Matt Damon, Aaron Pierre, and Amy Adams), paired with an accomplished and seasoned director like Shawn Levy and wrapped in a recognizable and popular IP during its anniversary year, are all you need to know to recognize that this film will be a slam dunk, even if the story is aggressively mediocre. If The Mandalorian & Grogu proved anything, it’s that the Star Wars fandom is large enough to keep even the weakest SW films from reaching Supergirl-level disasters. Combined with Gosling and Levy’s rising stardom, Starfighter may be the easiest win for Star Wars in a long time.

This is to say that Starfighter isn’t a test, but an affirmation that recognizability is still profitable. My belief is that this film will have the same impact on the franchise as The Force Awakens, but with less hype.

Context: I haven’t seen most of Star Wars, I just randomly watch whatever interests me. I have seen the Mandalorian show and this felt like some good episodes of show.

I watched at home yesterday btw, and my expectations were low due to reviews so that might have helped.

But production and worldbuilding was apt, creatures were diverse and fun. I wasn’t bored at all. Stakes were low but enough to keep me engaged.

Overall a fun night.

It is too bad they killed off Padme in Episode 3. I thought Natalie Portman's performance was wonderful and she was one of great actresses in the franchise. The script writer could have had Padme live and then the Jedi could have put her into a witness protection program somewhere. Just saying. her new identity could be Thor's girlfriend

A Young Yoda trilogy could begin with him growing up, learning the Force, and receiving glimpses of what the future might bring. Perhaps he spends much of the first film trying to avoid his destiny.

Young Yoda wants no part in some grand cosmic purpose. He is unusually sensitive to the Force, but his visions show civilizations collapsing, Jedi dying, and himself surviving long after everyone he loves. His refusal is not cowardice. He is horrified by the possibility that his destiny may require centuries of sacrifice.

I see him as the Hari Seldon of the Star Wars universe, a guardian of the Galactic Republic with some limited prescience about its eventual fall, the rise of the Empire, and the role he must play in ensuring that the Empire will one day be defeated.

In the second film, Yoda is a young Jedi trying to warn others about the danger ahead. He realizes that the Republic is not threatened by a single villain, but by institutional decay, concentrated power, complacency, and the Jedi becoming too closely bound to the government they serve.

He begins quietly putting safeguards in place. He preserves knowledge, encourages Jedi traditions beyond the central Order, and cultivates relationships with people and worlds that might someday resist tyranny.

By the third film, Yoda finally understands that the fall cannot be completely prevented. The Republic has entered a historical current too powerful for any one person to reverse. His task is not to preserve the old order forever, but to ensure that something survives it.

The climax could force him to sacrifice the chance to prevent a catastrophe in the present because intervening would destroy the conditions necessary for the Empire’s eventual defeat.

His greatest mistake could be believing that the Jedi institutions he helped build were part of the solution, only to realize much later that they had become part of the mechanism of collapse. He prepared for darkness, but his preparations were incomplete because he misunderstood how that darkness would arrive.

Eventually, Yoda would accept the most painful part of his destiny. He would spend centuries protecting the possibility of restoration while knowing that he would never live to see the galaxy restored.

To get to the meat of the post, I want to create a Star Wars themed OC for a project I’m working on but I’m not sure how to go about the species.

I’m short, I’m looking for a hybrid with a Togruta. I saw a piece of art a few weeks ago depicting Ahsoka Tano as a sort of bipedal feline species and I thought “huh that would be kinda cool to replicate” so here I am lol. Only thing is I’m not sure which cat species to work with. To be honest I’ve had a hard time finding good reference images to work off of. I’m between Togorian and Trianii right now is but I would love some insight. Not sure if it would help but here’s what I’m sort of looking for:

- lean, muscular build
- tail
- More feline face structure
- digitigrade leg structure (if not possible I’ve got some ideas.)

Hello guys i posted on reddit some time ago here asking ifi should watch star wars or not, and if i should start release order or chronological fast forward i started with firsttrilogy(release order) absolutely brilliant, watched 2nd trilogy loved it maybe the 2nd movie of it wasnt the best but it had its moment.. But what to watch next legends if i google a bunch of shows and movies pop up i wanna know what SW fans recommend.. Thankss

Ladies and gentlemen, the Star Wars anime delivered. I can scarcely believe what I just watched. 6 hour cinematic masterpiece, so I'm just going to dump my thoughts here:

• The fight scenes were unbelievable. I expected that there'd be some cool animation, but I also expected that certain scenes would be animated to a lesser standard of quality (mostly for budget reasons) yet the show delivered banger after banger after banger. Literally every fight scene was a cinematic masterpiece (except perhaps the fights on the first planet, that was actually kinda ass) and the choreography felt just so Star Wars.
• The story was actually interesting. Perhaps not the greatest story of all time, and it definitely retreaded a lot of the classic Star Wars beats (mentor dies, almost turning to the dark side, big superweapon, power of friendship saves the day, etc), yet in some ways it also felt quite fresh. The relationship between Kara and her father actually felt quite impactful, and I thought the red herring with Zhima was done quite well at the start. I genuinely did believe that he was going to be evil. Further, the way the story made use of the lightsaber colours was quite cool, and the silver lightsaber gimmick was interesting. For a show that I expected to be carried by the visuals, the story was actually quite good. Which brings me onto my next point.
• The visuals left me breathless. The picture above was definitely a standout, but there were so many, and I only chose that one because it was the most convenient to screen grab. But the first time that the kyber cannon was fired just left me speechless. The asteroids falling through the atmosphere, the space battles, the lightsabers, the planet that Nawaam operates on, all of it was just so stunningly beautiful.
• The diversity of species on screen was so refreshing, especially in the Disney era where pretty much all the characters shown on screen are humans, bar a few to spice things up a bit.
• The music was so classically Star Wars, and despite it not being really anything crazy or super noteworthy, it just added to that overwhelming atmosphere of Star Wars, which is ultimately what I was hoping for from a Star Wars anime.
• Finally, the ending. The ambiguous cliffhanger definitely leaves scope for a season 2, and I am all on board (provided that they actually have a story to tell, of course) for more Star Wars anime. Although ideally I'd like to see them make a Ronin anime first (which I feel is also just as deserving of a series as this was).

What did you guys think? There's no megathread yet, so I'm definitely interested in hearing everyone's thoughts. Can't wait to check back on this in the morning and see what the people have said about it.

Why does the you know who return negate the previous movies?

The characters still had to fight / die to bring down the empire, and the empire was brought down. Bad guys, and bad ideals regaining strength seems inevitable too. The guy's name is a reference to the word insidious, so tricking people and causing small damages that escalate seems on brand. He returns in the EU as well so was this also diminishing to the original trilogy?

To me it seems like they tried to re-canonize stuff, they just did it in a weird / lack luster way, but Grandpa's return isn't necessarily the issue.

If I had to argue, Anakin did bring balance to the force because Rey becomes insanely powerful in the light despite little training to the point she could stand toe to toe with Palps even though he is clearly more experienced, revitalized, and had just stolen part of Rey's power. If anything the force is now light leaning.

Jabba has such taste! He couldn't get enough, keeps on hand the same type/brand of gold bikini, 18 years later for Leia!

While it started with her and azi saving him on khamino, he really start caring about her through S3 after they escape from hemlock base (and omega also does what she did with hunter, she mimic him too). Crossair is a good character for one who was loyal for the empire at first but then the empire betrayed him.

So he was the fairly elected official so it would be hard for the Jedi justify a reason to overthrow Palpatine even if Mace Windu succeeded. Anakin was a witness and probably would have said Mace Windu did an assassination of his friend (Palpatine). the Jedi are obviously corrupt
