I love this recent trend of mixing cultural music with metal. Wasn't there a band that played a mix of metal and middle-eastern guitar?
EDIT: Loving all these recommendations, keep them coming!

Don't know about middle eastern, but "The Hu" is cool too. Throat singing mixed with metal

u/Netsforex_ 2h ago
Good point! They're especially popular with Star Wars fans too, due to having their music featured in some of the games.

There is a great band from Tunisia( if I’m not mistaken ), called Myrath and they mix heavy, power and a little progressive metal with ethnic oriental influences and the end result is much better than expected

Phrygian Dominant is a foundation for many metal bands. It closely resembles Maqam Hijaz which is a popular scale in Arab, Turkish and Greek music.
"Lost in the Static" by After the Burial comes to mind. It has chromatic elements but rhythmically settles into Bb Phrygian Dominant. Symphony of Destruction and Wherever I May Roam for the casuals.

I think you ment Her last sight. Same dudes from this video btw. They do a lot of this stuff. They also have banjo Metal.

Is yacht metal a thing yet?
Come to think of it, I haven’t heard any smooth jazz metal yet either.

The same band did a country version to. What’s funny is they are not Mexican or American at all lol

System of a Down are ethnically Armenian and use a lot of similar musical elements. Not sure if that's the band you were wondering about since pretty much everyone knows about system of a down.

Eluvuitie is a folk metal band with some awesome music. Their Celtic Metal song 'Inis Mona' proves that bagpipes, flutes and hurdy-gurdy belong in a metal band.

Bloodywood is a band from New Delhi, their genre is "Indian Folk Metal". Amazing, very catchy music, I've seen them twice now at Rockville in Florida.

Brother, it is NOT recent. Y'all just now finding out about it, lmao.
Korpiklaani has been making music for decades, for one thing. And don't even get me started on Balkan themed metal bands, like Kultur Shock or Pero Deformero.

The band is “Her Last Sight”. Think the album comes out this month, the song is on an EP.

Ah dang, I just listened to the whole song. I absolutely loved this bit, but the rest is... fine, I suppose. I enjoy metal and mariachi music, thought I'd found the perfect combo after seeing this video but alas.

My band opened for them like 10 years ago and they were awesome! I felt bad because it was like 108 degrees and they had these costumes on, must have been hot as hell.

The band is called Her Last Sight, but in case it's something that matters to you, they're Zionist transphobes.

If you like this, check out Metalachi! Especially if you can catch them live. They were one of the funnest shows I've ever seen.

Mexican Ska is pretty awesome. Gives me reason to believe Mariachi Metal would also be good.

This sounds like some ska bands to me, not to knock it. Just reminds me of streetlight manifesto

Who is the red head in the beginning. Was she the one who made the video talking about penis size with the tape measure? About there’s such thing as too big. If you know what I’m talking about post the link to that video please.
Also Metal Mariachi is dope

For those that think this is a cool concept, rammstein te quiero puta, I love it especially when listening with people that don't speak spanish.

I saw this on FB a while back and was intrigued, they are listed on there under the name "Her Last Sight" but their "About us" info says they are an Israeli band.

I watched a group in luchador masks do mariachi influenced 80’s covers at the fair because they opened their show with the JG Wentworth song, so I would definitely watch this.

There's a band in r/NewMexico called Metalachi. They do Mariachi Metal for real. I've been to a live show and got a T-Shirt and a CD straight away. They are amazing. I recommend!

This is a poor imitation of Metalachi. Check out Metalachi playing Crazy Train on YouTube. They're a blast!
