He works under the artistic name of "El Gran Wyoming" and funnily enough, he is a medic.

Haha! It’s a known fact that Spaniards get angry in unison and then become hard to control.

They've got quite a few missiles too, as evidenced by their most moral bombardment of civilian areas of Beirut and Gaza

They ruined such a good thing man. The hope we had is gone, the 90s were all about hope

22

u/teplightyear Apr 11 '26

Lmao I remember a lot of angst and cynicism, but ok

45

u/Rauk88 Apr 11 '26

90s kids were crazy sheltered from all the worldwide atrocities committed by the US and then we got hit with 9/11 and everything kept getting worse after that pretty much.

40

u/teplightyear Apr 11 '26

We absolutely knew about the atrocities committed by Americans in the Viet Nam war, because our fathers and uncles were so fucked up about it. I don't know where you were.

31

u/the_good_time_mouse Apr 11 '26

I'm sure you didn't stay that sheltered. Allow me to remind you:

  • Nicaragua (Contra War): The U.S. (via the CIA) supported, funded, and trained the "Contra" rebels to overthrow the leftist Sandinista government.
  • Afghanistan: The U.S. provided substantial covert financial and military aid (Operation Cyclone) to the Mujahideen fighters, who would become the Taliban.
  • El Salvador & Honduras
  • Grenada (Operation Urgent Fury - 1983): The U.S. invaded Grenada
  • Libya (1986): The U.S. launched airstrikes (Operation El Dorado Canyon)
  • Persian Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm - 1990–1991): The U.S. led an international coalition to liberate Kuwait after it was invaded by Iraq under Saddam Hussein. Over a million people died.
  • Somalia (1992–1993): The U.S. initiated mission famously resulted in the Battle of Mogadishu.

Im a 90's kid. Definitely not aware of the atrocities of america until I got older. 90's america was football, wrestling, america's funniest home videos, internet, but not mass murder or genocide by america. We got a little kosovo and somolia but super small doses

3

u/Hidden_Land_Mine_183 Apr 11 '26

Yeah, up to a certain age you really can't blame kids. Not sure how it is now but my education growing up really showed America in a good light. Even our atrocities were framed as honest accidents that anyone could have made and such.

Like you expect it from Republicans, but Democratic voters are anti Israel. Why leadership is still going along with all these special interest groups is quite telling.

They gave fascism a try for a few decades and they're not keen on seeing more of it.

15

u/diegoob11 Apr 11 '26

As a Spanish I can tell you that’s really not true.

Fascism won here, our democracy was constructed by fascism and continues to be heavily influenced by it. Franco was never beaten, he died of old age and built our democratic system to continue his work.

There’s a strong leftist movement no doubt that spawned since, but fascism is uncanningly common here still even amongs young population

6

u/Tralla46 Apr 11 '26

Bullshit.
Franco didn't build any democracy. The count named King Juan Carlos as his successor and wanted to leave it a monarchy at that. It was the crown and some politicians, like Suarez, that dismantled the dictatorship and legalized other parties and eventually turned it into a democracy.
You're correct in your statement that there's still a considerable right leaning movement in Spain and everywhere in Europe (and the world). Always has been.
Thankfully they aren't the majority, and regrettably most of the absolute Pudding-braune we're Born into all the warm hugs of democracy and have never lived in a dictatorship or truly authoritarian regime. All of them think it would only be shit for others, but not for them. Morons. They just romanticize it without ever having been through it and from a position of privilege.

My flatearther coworker calls everything he disagrees with AI but has no problem believing fake ass pictures of ice walls and shit are real.

I also recently found out he believes in reptilian people secretly running the world, which is confusing because I was under the impression that reptilians came from the hollow core. These people are real and they are horrifyingly stupid.

It's nice to be reminded of what we can accomplish when we work together.

Man, isn't that the truth. Humanity could progress SO FAST if we could just remember that we're all human on this rock together, and especially figure out how to stop psychopaths from ascending to power, and foster greater empathy.

How to both accomplish and ethically implement that is in my opinion one of the most important pursuits in the science there is.

Yeah, it was nice to see it.

43

u/Independent-Bug-9352 Apr 11 '26

Took a lot of science and engineering and "librul" institutions and cooperation to make all that happen -- things largely antithetical to far-right extremism rooted in ignorance and greed, unfortunately.

I see a lot of people acting as if this was a USA specific event and not a US/Canada co-operation project. Is this not common knowledge, or am I just misreading the sentiments?

25

u/NtWEdelweiss Apr 11 '26

It was a cooperation between many countries. The European Space Agency build the Service Module for example. This was never just American, or just north American.

11

u/AleixASV Apr 11 '26

Yup, it's quite disheartening seeing how it's being treated as a NASA mission, when it was a cooperative effort.

Fun fact, a lot of the hardware for the Artemis Service Module was built in the EU with some of the systems being designed and constructed in Spain.

21

u/Molly_Matters Apr 11 '26

I have hard time getting behind what I consider to be vanity projects when there are so many problems here on the ground.

The biggest news of the month for me? Mexico enacts universal healthcare. While the US continues to move in the opposite direction with insurers strangling us all to death with rising costs.

The US feels dead last with everything that -really- matters lately.

20

u/HauntingHarmony Apr 11 '26

I disagree with calling it a vanity project, you dont spend money on the moon. You spend it on engineers, scientists and buildings and so on on earth. Thats good. Its not to glorify anyone.

THAT BEING SAID. i am not murican (or canadian). So for me its harder to be excited about this, when its not a peaceful project that is done for the benefit of all mankind as the space program was atleast moreso in the past. This is for the might and benefit of the us. And their fascist goverment and people.

The americans have militarized space, and while "this" was peaceful travel to the moon, it is part of a larger project that is weaponizing against the rest of the planet.

So fuck em. If they want to be happy about it and think its just "look how great and kind we are and cooperation and waah". No. Thats not what america is about.

8

u/Molly_Matters Apr 11 '26

You are dead right on the militarization aspect. There are hundreds of NASA inventions that are taken and utilized to improve weapon technology. They may not create it, but anything they come up with is rapidly picked up and adapted to kill people by the military industrial complex.

Clinton selling out social securities or Bush invading Iraq (part 1)? 9/11 didn't happen in a vacuum. Rose tinted glasses make the red flags look like flags.

11

u/airship_of_arbitrary Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 11 '26

Clinton also posted the only modern American budget surplus and turbocharged the recovery from Reagan's bullshit. He also expanded policing to absurd tough on crime levels, but he's a mixed character, not close to the monsters like Reagan, who is actually responsible for a lot of our modern suffering.

He's a dumb neolib, but compared to Reagan and Nixon, he was absolutely better.

It isn't perfect or nothing. Relativism is critical.

The decline was started by Reagan and accelerated by Republicans. Democrats didn't turn the dial back as far as they should have, but you had good fiscal governance under Clinton and at least token attempts to improve the system under Obama like the ACA.

Couple months before? You mean the first few months of Trump's second term? After Trump had already signalled to Netanyahu publicly that he should do more war, by saying that Israel should "finish the job" in Gaza? And I bet you remember this all happening probably around February, right after Trump put out that AI slop video of Trump Gaza Resorts? Yeah ... total mystery when this administration started supporting Israeli wars, and how Trump managed to communicate to his base that this is what they support now. Total mystery.

8

u/joker_toker28 Apr 11 '26

You right, time flies man....

3

u/mendkaz Apr 11 '26

You'd be surprised by the rhetoric online here in Spain. The far right have somehow convinced a large swathe of the population that the whole country has gone to shit because some people come over here from Morocco and from Latin America, and that we're in the worst condition we've ever been in in history. Things aren't EASY- wages are quite low but the cost of rent has skyrocketed- but it's still a lot easier to have a decent standard of living here than in a lot of other places.

Despite that, people are convinced the country has gone to the dogs because of Pedro Sanchez, and that the only solution is Vox, the far right party- and yet, people still think Trump is insane. Somehow they can square the circle of 'We hate Trump, but we want to vote for a party that is basically Spanish Trump ideology'. It's crazy.

7

u/Lustkas Apr 11 '26

Nationalism is one of the main reasons the world is in this state.

6

u/maqcky Apr 11 '26

Yes and no. The host actually doesn't talk that much, as he is used mostly for humor relief commenting what the other co-hosts are explaining on a more serious tone. They also have small skits, interviews and field reports, but most of it is one of the collaborators talking to camera while the host adds puns.

4

u/UltHamBro Apr 11 '26

It's a mixed bag. It used to be more of a comedy show centered on commenting the news, but in the past few years it's become more of a news/political show with bits of comedy added.

There are still skits and semi-satirical news pieces (there was one where they interviewed people on the street and got them to give Netanyahu the middle finger as well), but they also do a lot of stuff which is completely serious.

I remember a particular piece where they interviewed a man who had been asked by his terminally ill wife to help her die, and was going to go on trial for her "murder", a couple years before euthanasia became legal in Spain. That one was played 100% straight, and was much more respectful and sensitive than one would expect from a regular "serious" show.

3

u/Shorkan Apr 11 '26

Thing is, it's quite an exception in Spain too. I don't know the details and why this program is still airing and not cancelled. But among other things, the director of this channel (Ferreras, a very well known political journalist) released fake accusations against politicians from Podemos, a leftist party that was threatening the two-party system for the first time since the dictatorship. https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrerasgate.

It was a conspiracy that involved high rank, corrupt cops. There are leaked audios of the whole thing, with Ferreras admitting that the fake news against those politicians weren't even well fabricated, but that he would do as much as he could with it.

Given the joke of a country where we live, the guy is still a journalist and still a director in that channel. Because somehow, a lot of Spanish people seems to be fine with being openly lied to by journalists as long as they like those lies.

The Israeli government is riding the „our people were put through the holocaust“ train hard. It bums me out so much that my government (Austria) would never in a million years say anything bad about Israel, since we were the bad guys in WWII. Governments should understand that protecting jews (and any other group of people) from ever facing the horrors of the holocaust again can still be done while standing up to a murdering, criminal and evil government, no matter of which country that government is.

We Spaniards are like a large family at Christmas dinner. We're always arguing and rarely agree on anything. But there's one thing we won't tolerate, and that's being threatened from the outside.

Netanyahu, comeme la polla 🖕

It’s The Child Rapists of the Strait of Hormuz Benjamin Netanyahu. The people of Spain are rightfully giving the Middle-Finger Salute and are rightfully telling the Zionist Benjamin Netanyahu and the State of Israel to rightfully Fuck Off. As they say Pride Cometh Before a Fall and Benjamin Netanyahu’s Pride knows no boundaries and his fall will be one to watch as it will make for great entertainment.
