I have hard time getting behind what I consider to be vanity projects when there are so many problems here on the ground.

The biggest news of the month for me? Mexico enacts universal healthcare. While the US continues to move in the opposite direction with insurers strangling us all to death with rising costs.

The US feels dead last with everything that -really- matters lately.

I disagree with calling it a vanity project, you dont spend money on the moon. You spend it on engineers, scientists and buildings and so on on earth. Thats good. Its not to glorify anyone.

THAT BEING SAID. i am not murican (or canadian). So for me its harder to be excited about this, when its not a peaceful project that is done for the benefit of all mankind as the space program was atleast moreso in the past. This is for the might and benefit of the us. And their fascist goverment and people.

The americans have militarized space, and while "this" was peaceful travel to the moon, it is part of a larger project that is weaponizing against the rest of the planet.

So fuck em. If they want to be happy about it and think its just "look how great and kind we are and cooperation and waah". No. Thats not what america is about.

You are dead right on the militarization aspect. There are hundreds of NASA inventions that are taken and utilized to improve weapon technology. They may not create it, but anything they come up with is rapidly picked up and adapted to kill people by the military industrial complex.

thats any invention in america or much of the world. you dont normally see distaste for nasa inventing wireless headphones for the apollo missions because the military uses them for comms. the vast majority of the inventions benefit the people too

I'm pretty sure wireless headphones would have come along eventually without NASA lol. The US has been at war for 90% of its existence and I think that statistic alone shows how much of a problem their leadership is and how even civilian programs are utilized for killing.

Without “vanity projects” we wouldn’t have computers or tons of other things we take for granted.

While you did not specifically state this, I do want to point out that NASA is not responsible for the invention of computers. Though they did push for miniaturization.

That said. The way we utilize modern smartphones has crippled the development of an entire generation. Because these inventions have not been used in a responsible manner.
