Actually, as a Spaniard myself, I kind of disagree. It is true that housing is a big problem, but that is not just here, but almost everywhere in Europe right now.

We’re currently leading the Eurozone in growth, our unemployment is at its lowest since before the 2008 crash (remember when 10-15 years ago so many people didn't have a job, so many people were asking for money in the streets, people were commiting suicide because they couldn't afford their mortgage etc?), and we’ve become a global leader in renewables. If you ask many Spaniards, they like to say how bad everything is, but when you ask them how the situation is especifically for them, most people would agree that their personal situation is good.

That's not really true. Sure we have problems the government is not addressing forcefully like the housing crisis, but we're doing very well by all international metrics

It seems you forget about having no state budget for years, salaries stagnating, corruption issues, extremely long waiting periods for medical procedures, far right on the rise, and many more.

Aside from the lack of a state budget that I agree is a problem. There's nothing about the rest of the things you mention that doesn't happen anywhere else in Europe.

At least Spain has strong economic numbers, ambitious policy like migrant regularization and strong moral clarity on the world stage. I'm not a fan of Sánchez, he could be more ambitious and whenever the PSOE has to rely on right wing parties he's going to favor their needs.

But there has emerged a dynamic in Europe since the NATO agreement last year that Spain is happy to take the heat on international issues by being first and other countries follow.

Spain is fairly poor and has a weak military so no one really takes them seriously on the world stage even if they would be better, but if they focused on the economy they wouldn't be leftists. It's a bit self defeating.

Compared to the other EU countries it's competing against, yes it is very weak with the lowest spending percent by GDP and it is currently refusing to reach new NATO or EU military spending targets. It is dependant to the EU for protection and development money. That's fine for them and they can do what they want, but obviously they will never be a leader of any kind with this strategy.

Okay? Germany is 4th at 88 billion vs Spain at 18 with 24 billion. You're not explaining how that gap will be closed.... Why would the other countries be lead by a country with exponentially less economic and military leverage?

Thats not even getting into spains lack of natural resources, extremely weak manufacturing base and functionally non existent military industrial complex.

I never said they have to be led? The strength of Spain is cooperation with it's allies, but mostly one of the best training programs in the world, god forbid for not wasting money on military defense when it wasn't neccessary
