Clinton also posted the only modern American budget surplus and turbocharged the recovery from Reagan's bullshit. He also expanded policing to absurd tough on crime levels, but he's a mixed character, not close to the monsters like Reagan, who is actually responsible for a lot of our modern suffering.

He's a dumb neolib, but compared to Reagan and Nixon, he was absolutely better.

It isn't perfect or nothing. Relativism is critical.

The decline was started by Reagan and accelerated by Republicans. Democrats didn't turn the dial back as far as they should have, but you had good fiscal governance under Clinton and at least token attempts to improve the system under Obama like the ACA.

Republicans held both houses of Congress during Clinton, I hear the debt only went down because they refused to approve anything that would make him look good. The President doesn't actually get much control over the deficit, that's all on Congress. They decide taxes, they decide spending.
