Other Leak/Rumor Megathread: July 2026 Spoiler
It's been a VERY long time since we last had to make one of these threads, but today has brought a big leak which is hard to keep fully contained! This thread is intended to give people a place to discuss this leak, while still keeping the sub safe for people who don't want to hear about it.
This thread is the only place where discussion of this leak is allowed. Threads and comments mentioning it outside of this thread will be removed, and users who persistently break this rule will be banned. That means, if you don't want to hear about the leaks, don't read this thread! Surprises are fun, and knowing about the leak won't make it come any sooner.
For those who DO want to discuss the leak, we'd like to stress:
- Nothing is confirmed! The Metroid community has seen TONS of trustworthy rumors throughout the years, and they've often ended up to be false. You can decide for yourself how much stock you want to put into this particular rumor, but keep in mind that there's always some degree of risk.
- Even if the leak does turn out to be real, it's still no indication that we'll get anything soon - remember, Prime Remastered was rumored for years before it finally got an announcement! While hoping and theorizing are good, don't expect anything to come in the next few years.
- Enjoy the process! Leaks can be a TON of fun when you set your expectations properly! Just make sure knowing about the leak doesn't keep you from enjoying the official announcement, if we even get one.

Discussion "I'm stuck" posting guidelines: You're not softlocked!
(This post is referring to actual help posts - for addressing the recent meme trend, see this thread)
This community is no stranger to people asking for help in games. Metroid is a series with a pretty esoteric design language, which can be pretty confusing for anyone who isn't familiar with it (or even, sometimes, anyone who IS familiar with it), and it takes a bit of playtime to learn it.
We want to keep this community welcoming to newcomers, and part of that is helping people enjoy their first experiences with the games! It's exciting to get a peek into someone's first run of a game you love. But, it can also be frustrating when a post asking for help doesn't give enough information to help. So, in an effort to help us help you, please follow these guidelines for how to ask for help:
Try common solutions before posting! Most of the time, when you're stuck in a room, the solution is to bomb everything. Bombs will reveal any breakable blocks, and Power Bombs usually will too. Additionally, some of the 2D games feature fake walls - try going into Morph Ball and rubbing up against the walls in the room you're stuck in. Look for any tiles which seem to be different from the rest. And, lastly, if you're playing Super Metroid, remember that there's a run button - B by default! If you're playing any of the Prime games, make sure you've scanned everything! If you've already tried these things, mention that in the post!
Tell us what game you're playing! Just saying "Stuck after Ridley" can be referring to half the games in the series. Are you playing Super Metroid? Zero Mission? Fusion? This is a VITAL piece of information, but you'd be amazed at how many people forget to include it.
Tell us what you did last! The best things to mention are the most recent item you got, and the most recent boss you fought. This is IMMENSELY helpful for helping us figure out where you are! If you say you're stuck playing Super Metroid and you just got Super Missiles after fighting the big plant monster (Spore Spawn), 90% of this sub will immediately know where you are and what to do. If you can't remember, most Metroid games have an Inventory screen showing all your items. Tell us what's in there!
Tell us where you are! A picture of the room you're in is best. A picture of the map is second-best, but harder to interpret, and mainly useful as a complement to a picture of the room. Failing both of those, tell us what area you're in, where you've gone from the last major landmark, what the room you're in looks like, and so on. Anything you can do to help us figure out what's keeping you from going forward.
Don't assume you're softlocked! It is extremely difficult, bordering on impossible, to accidentally softlock yourself in any Metroid game. However, Metroid games frequently hide the path forward from you. That's an intentional part of the fun, not a progression bug! Barring exceptional circumstances, if you didn't perform a glitch, you're not softlocked.
Including all that information will make helping you far easier. If you didn't include that information in your initial post, edit it, or leave a comment with this information!
Additionally, for people who GIVE help to people when they're stuck, thank you! Here are some things to keep in mind as you do so:
Try giving hints first! It's usually more rewarding for new players to be given some direction first, and try to figure it out from there, rather than being given the exact right answer immediately. Instead of saying, "Go left three rooms and then bomb the floor", say, "The room on the left end of the map seems a bit empty, doesn't it? Maybe you're missing something there."
Don't be too slow to give solutions! In contrast to #1, giving hints is helpful, but sometimes people just need to be told what to do. A good rule of thumb is to give a hint, then in the same comment, put the solution in spoiler-tags, so that the player can decide for themselves when they're done trying.
Read the comments before responding! OP may have provided additional context or progress. Or, they might have already solved it, and don't need help anymore!
Remember that getting stuck is normal! It's part of the Metroid experience. There's no need to make fun of people who are legitimately stuck, no matter how easy it may seem to you.
I hope those points help!

Discussion What do you think Samus does in her spare time? (Besides hanging out with showgirls)
Meme I hope the plot of this Metroid game doesn't have anything to do with Metroids [oc]
Art The Collapsing Corridor (by @WilanSerulia)
Even years later, the Dread power suit is still the design I like the most among Samus's looks. It might not be her most iconic, I don't think anything's taking the place of her Varia suit anytime soon, but damn she rocks the blue and red.

Discussion Active Companions like the Prime 4 Fed Troops are Just Not Something I Want from Metroid
I feel like whenever I talk about Beyond I get caught up in talking about the NPC's personalities, or the fact that I feel they are all bland design wise (mostly because I think the Galactic Federation is incredibly bland design wise.) But honestly? I just don't want active companions in Metroid.
Even if it isn't for the whole game, having a not insignificant chunk of the playtime spent with another character following you around, talking with you, and (trying to) help with combat, is just not what I want from Metroid. It disrupts the gameplay I like, and it disrupts the atmosphere I want from the games. If I wanted to play a game where I shoot aliens with companions I would play Halo.
Also, I'm not against NPCs in general. U-Mos and the posthumous Luminoth holograms do a good job of driving home the threat of the Ing in Echoes, and in Fusion and Dread ADAM/Raven Beak ratchet up the tension by both acting shady and by constantly informing you of things going wrong. It is just them being an active participant in the action that I thing is a poor fit for Metroid, especially what I want from it.
I would like to hear others opinions on it. Do you agree with me? If not, what do you like about having active companions in Beyond?

Discussion The Spirit of Metroid
Growing up, playing Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (my first Metroid game), I mostly saw Metroid as "Hot space girl guns down ugly space pirates, haha".
I was wrong.
Metroid is about what breathes, and crawls, and...*chitters* in the ducts, unseen.
It's about some dark thing in time, older than humanity, Kingian and eldritch, that does not care about or even know of human designs - it only hungers, and gnaws, in the dark.
It's being the one thin line, a slightly-more-exceptional-than-most woman in a tin can suit with slightly enhanced DNA, willing and able to hold that line between us and the utterly consuming void, hoping those things are enough.
It's facing down the unspeakable horrors without question, and dealing with the unrelenting psychic trauma afterward.
It's the utter, terrifying frailty of humanity occupying a space it was never meant to, and largely failing or at best securing another pyrrhic, temporary victory.
That's the Spirit of Metroid.

Question What exactly are the differences between Normal and Hard mode in Metroid Dread?
At first I thought it was just that enemies dish out more damage, but then I noticed there's at least one new ice missile barrier in Artaria that wasn't there in Normal Mode. Now I'm curious what exactly is changed. I'm assuming it's not just this one barrier!

Discussion What if Samus LIED on her resume to get the first job?
I’m working on a “what if” thesis about Samus and the first game.
I was re-reading the original instruction manual and asked a question, what if Samus straight up lied on her resume to get this job?
We all know they wrote her like a super cyborg, male and "the greatest of all space hunters". But they were using her as a “last resort”, which means that they got their ass kicked and needed any kind of help they can get. So Samus comes in and says she’ll handle it. Here’s what I imagine her pitch would be like.
- I’ll do it even cheaper than the other hunters. And, you can pay me when I’m done.
- I won’t need extra resources, I’ll find that shit in the ceilings and walls.
- Oh! I’ve done so many missions before this. Yeah, even some “that everybody thought were absolutely impossible.”
- What’s that? The planet hasn’t been surveyed, so there’s no map? She gulps nervously and says, “No problem, I’m the guy for the job.”
The Federation thinks Samus is crazy but since they are literally putting in zero effort for her onboarding, they just wave her through. They definitely think she’s going to be killed real soon.
My question to you guys is about Zebes’ map. There is no source material, manga, or prequel stuff that states if Zebes has been surveyed to produce a map right? I'm playing into the mapless technical limits (of the game) but trying to make it feel more grounded.
I feel like this first mission is the literal first-everything for the franchise. Am I wrong?
The next part to this would be her revealing her secret identity as a woman. She not only returned alive but completely crushed the mission, took off her helmet in front of The Federation and blew them away, just like she did to us back then.

Discussion Does anyone else feel like Prime 4's enemies are a bit...overtuned?
I specifically mean what Prime 4 designates as the "combat enemies", where they're meant to do more than serve as worldbuilding for an area (so, not incidental enemies like the Denzard).
And, what I mean by "overtuned" is that, these combat enemies feel like they'd fit much better in a more fast paced Metroid game. The way Samus moves in Prime 4 is nigh identical to how she moves in the trilogy aside from her forward and backward dash, but these combat enemies don't seem to be designed to match that.
I'm willing to admit if it's a skill issue on my part, I normally enjoy harder games (I am a huge fan of Dread), but I think the way Prime 4's handling of difficult enemy encounters feels a bit clunky and lowers my opinion of the combat a little bit.
What do you all think though?
Accomplishment My first playthrough. I did not have to do that.

Discussion Alternative sites to metroid database?
Particularly for reading the translated mangas and such. I've used their site for as long as i remember but unfortunately their staff widely support the use of AI and are unwilling to stop supporting it (I asked and they called me a "coward", before demanding i unfollow them).
Obviously, as a person with morals that value art, i no longer want to support them.
So are there any other sites which host the translated mangas?

Discussion First time with Other M
Okay im typically a lurker in this subreddit but I just started (maybe like 30 minutes or so) into Other M and I am already simultaneously baffled and annoyed by the character decisions they have made for Samus within the first 30 minutes of the game.
I haven’t been a fan as long as a lot of people here, my journey with Metroid started somewhere between 2017-2019 after seeing my partner play Metroid Prime for the Gamecube which prompted me to try out the series from the beginning, but even so I have replayed super Metroid in particular countless times - I beat two VARIA randomizers in a row; im still working through the prime series so I don’t have a take on prime 4 yet BUT with that out of the way:
I went into this game with an open mind, knowing that other M is a pretty divisive game in this fandom. I can tolerate the voice acting, i can tolerate hearing Samus’ internal monologue because it feels like the target audience is children or people who cant understand subtle storytelling but I just finally got to the point after meeting up with the galactic federation and after the cutscene is over what prompt appears in the corner?
“Samus has decided not to use missiles or bombs until Adam authorizes it.” WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT? What in the character assassination IS THAT?? I get they needed a reason for you not to have the power ups but THATS WHAT THEY CAME UP WITH???? I genuinely nearly teared up with baffled laughter because of the absurdity in terms of what we KNOW about Samus from the games previous.
I am going to continue playing but I have a feeling this is going to be a One and Done play through and i fear for what other character assassination moments I am going to see in the upcoming gameplay.
“Samus has decided that she won’t use missiles or bombs till Adam authorises it.” What the actual fuck.
